BCRAN question

2000-12-02 Thread whitaker

For those of you that have passed this test, how important is it to know the
various models of routers? I'm familiar with the different series routers
and what Cisco recommends them for (i.e., branch office, telecommuter,
central office), but do you have to know it down to actual port
configurations? (i.e., model 25xx has so many serial ports, so many async
ports, and so many ethernet ports, etc). It seems rather futile knowing
this since in practice one can always look in the product guide, but the
BCRAN book I have says it is important to know this stuff.

BCRAN passed

2000-12-07 Thread Helena

Hi all,

Apologies for not writing earlier about my BCRAN exam but I've been rather
busy. Passed it last week with 864. I thought the exam was rather
ambiguous, it also asked modem commands, which I thought I wouldn't have
to know, and specifics about routers eg what does a `1601 have that kinda
thing...

Half way through the exam, I thoguth that I had failed because they asked
all this questions which I had to guess at, but I passed!

Even though the matierial for BCRAN is not as difficult as BSCN, I rate it
probably a close second after BSCN - in terms of difficulty - due to the
amount of material (and range)
that was covered and the depth that was covered in the exam.

I was also surprised to find that th ecommand questions that were asked,
did not actually test whether the commands were global configuration or
interface commands etc.

I used the Cisco Press book to study. I didn't really like it though,
feeling that a lot of things were confusing and ambiguous.

Hope that helps
Helena

BCRAN Questions

2000-12-19 Thread Wilson, Christian

Hi all

I was reviewing the test outline for BCRAN on the CCO and noticed VoIP
mentioned twice, firewalls, DMZ's, frame tagging, and VPDN's. I did not see
any of these topics covered in the BCRAN book with the exception of a brief
mention of VPN technology in appendix F. It even mentions routed vs routing
protocols. It seems that other tests encompass some of these topics. I
realize that nearly any topic is fair game for Cisco, but can someone tell
me, do I need to spend extensive time studying these topics? I test on
Friday and have been focusing my study efforts on DDR, ISDN, Frame Relay,
Dial backup, NAT, AAA. Do I need to stop studying these and start looking
at voice over IP? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: BCRAN

2001-01-10 Thread Cyrax

I am assuming you mean dialup access to the central site. If i am correct,
then you can configure it on your NAS. Now there are two ways i know you can
do this.

1) Local based AAA
2) Server based AAA

With the local based AAA setup, users are authenticated based on local AAA
IOS accounts. Here user accounts are stored in the router, also you are
limited to the set of AV pairs that are supported on that IOS.

On the other hand with the Server based AAA setup, users are authenticated
based on AAA negotiations between the router and the AAA server. In this
case, user/group profiles and accounting records can be stored in an
internal or externel database. You also have a wider array of AV pairs
supported. This is more of an enterprise solution.

Common AAA Servers are Tacacs+ and Radius, depending on requirements.

I hope this is hopeful.

I passed my BCRAN today on the first try. Thanks to all who have
contributed.

I used on the job knowledge, the McGraw Hill (Thomas) BCRAN Book, and the
Cisco Press BCRAN book in combination with the COLT BCRAN practice tests.

I have seen alot of mixed feelings over the COLT tests, I had two questions
that were both on the COLT test and the real exam.

If you don't use async lines and modems alot in the field definately study
up on modem configuration, autoconfig and modemcap areas. I got hammered on
this stuff.

BCRAN questions

While I am studying for the BCRAN, I found the following question
with their answeres, I think that the answere of this questions are
wrong. So I'd like to share this with you

1) choose all of the following that are correct
a-A BRI connects to NT1 for 4-wire connection
b-A BRI allways connects to TE1

The answere b is correct and a is not. I think a should be correct
as well.

2)Which two configuartions must be the same for OSPF routers
to establish adjacency.
a-Routing process ID
b-Router ID
c-Area ID
d-Packet TTL
e-Hello interval

The answere a and c are correct. I think c and e should be correct

3) What is an asynchronous dialup?
a-Dial on demand routing
b-Dialup server
c-PPP conncetion from end user

The answere is b. I think it should be c

4)what is an extended access control list but not in a standard
access list?
a-Source hostname IP address and subnetmask
b-Source network IP address and subnetmask
c-Session layer information
d-Destination port information

the answere is b.

5)When configuring dialer information. Which statement is correct?
a-Values of dialer-group and dialer-list must match.
b-Values of dialer-group and dialer-list must be different.
c-If you set a value for dialer-group you must not set a value
for dialer-list

The answere is C . I think it should be a.

6)Which of the following would you use to prioritize dial interfaces?
a-Dialer access list
b-Dialer pool
c-Dialer interface
d-Dialer profile

The answere is d. I think it should be b.

Passed BCRAN

2000-11-06 Thread STRAND Scott

Passed BCRAN last friday with a score of 909 out of 1000. Here is how I passed:

Read Cisco-press book by Catherine Paquet (Good, gives alot of information)
Read McGraw-Hill book by Thomas & Quiggle (Also good, easier to read)
Used Boson practice test 1. (Helpful)
Took the one week training class at Mentortech. Mentor always does a great job and the
instructor (Steve Daleo) was excellent.

The archives are correct as to what to study, ISDN (BRI&PRI), Async dialup, PPP,
TACACS+, NAT, etc.

This was the easiest of the three CCNP tests I have passed (ACRC, BCMSN, BCRAN). They
give you a list of commands (About 40) that
you can choose from for the fill in the blank questions.

Three down, one (CIT) to go. I'll check the archives for CIT hints and if the BOSON
tests were good for CIT.

BCRAN passed

2000-11-21 Thread Gabriel Nickel

Yes!!!
Compared to Routing and Switching i found this exam fairly easy. There were like 20
choose-IOS-command-from-list questions. The
following subjects were covered:
- Frame Relay
- X25
- AAA/Security
- ISDN
- Dialup, Modem Config
- Router and Connection Deployment
- PPP
- NAT

I took the Boson #1 and COLT test and read the Ciscopress BCRAN book by Paquet (except
for the chapter dealing with the 700's). The
list, off course, is also a great resource.

Re: BCRAN

2000-08-18 Thread shanseverijn

Don't worry about typing in alot of cmds. The test only has 6-8 questions
where they have you type in actual cmds. There easy.
eg. copy run start, sh tech, sh cpu proc, sh interface.

Know your ISDN, AAA, Virtual templates / profiles, DDR, x.25, frame-relay.
For some reason they hit you on alot of product specific info like seies of
routers and what each model has for interfaces.

Re: BCRAN

2000-08-18 Thread Daniel Boutet

I just wrote the exam and there was a lot of "writting the commands"
questions but you had a choice of about 80 or so commands.
Know them because they have tricky commands just to confuse the hell out of
you.

Know ISDN and modem stuff very well. Just for reinforcement learn AT
commands.
A few frame and x25 questions. Just a few queuing, aaa, and compression
question.
PPP of course was the main focus.
I got 795 and the passing was 709. I really did not know the MODELS enough.
700 series to 12000 (at least know what their purpose are.)

I could add more but I think that you get the picture.

Passed BCRAN

2000-09-08 Thread Jeffrey Eiber

I passed BCRAN today with an 846 (706 to pass). It wasn't nearly as
difficult as I was expecting. I used the Cisco Press BCRAN book by Catherin
Paquet. I read the book once, skimmed it a second time, then reviewed a few
chapters. I wrote out lots and lots of config fragments for practice.
That's it.

Passed BCRAN was RE: Recommended Books for BCMSN & BCRAN

2000-10-31 Thread Jon . E . Gudmundsson

Take a look at the archives about BCMSN. There was a message from me 2
months ago about BCMSN books.
I passed BCRAN yesterday and here are the studymaterial that I used:
Books:
- Building Cisco Remote access Networks by Pacquet et al. Cisco press. It is
good to have for the exam bechause it is based on the BCRAN course and it
helps you to consentrate on the right subjects.
- BCRAN Building Cisco Remote access networks by Tom Thomas II.Macraw Hill
It is an excellent book and much better than his BCMSN book. It explains
everything in details.
- Cisco IOS 12.0 Dial solutions. Cisco Press. This book contains everything
about dial up networking. I am definetly going to read it again for the
CCIE.
- Remote Access Exam Cram. It was not as good as the Exam Cram for the BCMSN
Other materials
-Papers from www.cisco.com
- Cramsession from www.cramsession.com. It was excellent paper to brush up
few hours for the exam and much better than the cramsession paper for BCMSN.
- Experience. On the job experience. I could set up a lab with 1 3620 one
800, 2500 and 2600 to play with.
Hope this can help somebody on the list

Jeff,

Just passed BCRAN exam on Sunday. Used Cisco Press BCRAN Exam Certification
book and it was excellent. I advice to stay with Cisco Press all the way.
Just use other books to clarify information. Sometimes Cisco wording can be
difficult to read. Used the Cisco Press certification book and the regular
course book. PEACE

Passed BCRAN today

2001-03-01 Thread Kevin Welch

Thought I would drop a line letting you know that I passed my BCRAN exam
today, my final score was 849/1000. I was suprised by the amount of design
oriented questions and there was a very large focus on isdn technology. I
plan on completing the BSCN and CID exams over the enxt few months, maybe
then I can justify raising my rates as a consultant :-)

Passed BCRAN Today

Know your ISDN, Frame Relay, X.25, Dialer, and Access Routers.
Lots of fill in the blank, but, you get a list to choose from.
62 questions, I think 75 minutes, 706 to pass.
I used the Sybex Remote Access book and the Smart Certify CBT course.

On to BCSN

CCNA, CCDA

3 more to NP, 4 to DP.

RE: BCRAN Books

2000-11-28 Thread derek lewinson

my
study group is using BCRAN by Quiggle and Thomas - McGraw Hill (there are errors
but an errata is available from the authors)
also
Remote Access Study Guide by Buchmann et al (Syngress).  They balance each
other quite well.  You will find that one chapter
in
Quiggle maybe more detailed than Buchmann and vice versa.  Quiggle is great
for "hands-on" (case studies and tips on how to hook up
a
BCRAN lab) memory-charts and exam-tips.  Buchmann appears to be more
weighty but has a good layout for test prepping.
And
the book is supplied on the enclosed CD so you can pop it in ur pc
or laptop rather than break ur back with a ton-weight of
books!

George,
Congratulations!
For the BSCN I have taken, only one to two questions are related to product
description and the rest are mainly OSPF & BGP stuff (more than 50%).
So, study hard for the above two topics (but don't forget EIGRP!!!).
I am going to take BCRAN next week, would you mind telling me what resources
you used for preparing the exam. Thanks.

Raheem,

I only had the BRCAN book to study and it covered all you need to know. The thing is
to know all what is in the book. I found that in everyday life the stuff in the BCRAN
was the most useful of all the exams.

Then again I guess that depends on what you do and the sort of networks you run. Each
topic had its place.

It is important to understand what is in the Cisco Press BCRAN book. Whilst the
little extra knowledge is hard to acquire once you have it it is easy to carry.

I found the BCRAN the most useful exam in my day to day life. Understanding the
different routers is not a bad thing.

BCRAN COLT Question

2000-12-23 Thread f_a_name

I'm preparing for the BCRAN exam that I plan on taking
at the end of the month. I've run across a question in
Cisco's COLT that has an answer--according to COLT--
that I don't agree with. Before the replies fly about
the quality of the COLT, I did see the thread a while
back about the quality of the questions. I've found
some of their questions to be useful as long as I verify
the answer (& the question) in the official Cisco press
book or at CCO. Here's the question:

Question 16 of 44.
Which of the following is considered the primary part of
the dialer profile?

A. dialer pool

B. dialer interface

C. physical interface

D. mapclass

COLT's answer was A. In reading the Cisco press book,
there is nothing that would lead me to a direct answer.
However, I propose that it is B simply because it's what
defines all of the configuration characteristics
specific to a destination (page 240 of my book). Any
thoughts on this?

Re: BCRAN Questions

2000-12-23 Thread Adam Quiggle

VPDN was on CMTD, but not BCRAN (at least not that I've seen or heard). I
saw the outline in question on Cisco's web site a while ago, but so far as
I can tell, no one who has taken and reported back to this group that any
of these topics have appeared on the BCRAN exam.

I assumed that some Cisco employee inadvertently put this outline on the
web site and just forgot about it. I'm really quite surprised it is still
there after several months, especially since no one, specifically those who
provide certified Cisco training, are jumping to expand the outline of
their BCRAN material.

http://db.globalknowledge.com/catalog/outline.asp?course=5500&cat=6

In addition if you look at the switching link:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/10/wwtraining/certprog/testing/pdf/bcmsn.pdf

you will see a requirement to understand DDR (Dial On Demand
Routing). This inconsistency just leads me to suspect that someone made a
mistake and just hasn't corrected it. Does anyone know anything different?

Re: BCRAN passed

2001-01-10 Thread Tony Chen

Nickel,

Is there any fill in the blank type of question for BCRAN?

Tony Chen

>>> "Gabriel Nickel" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 11/21/00 07:51AM >>>
Yes!!!
Compared to Routing and Switching i found this exam fairly easy. There were like 20
choose-IOS-command-from-list questions. The
following subjects were covered:
- Frame Relay
- X25
- AAA/Security
- ISDN
- Dialup, Modem Config
- Router and Connection Deployment
- PPP
- NAT

I took the Boson #1 and COLT test and read the Ciscopress BCRAN book by Paquet (except
for the chapter dealing with the 700's). The
list, off course, is also a great resource.

Re: BCRAN objectives

2000-09-20 Thread Jeffrey Eiber

I took the exam recently, and I too read those objectives. My advise?
Forget you ever even looked at that PDF. That info is COMPLETELY
misleading, and I'm baffled as to why Cisco would publish something so
irrelevant to the exam. Concentrate on the objectives set forth in the
BCRAN book. Good luck!

I am new to this list, and I hope I'm not reasking an old question.

I looked at the BCRAN exam objectives yesterday, and it shows TAG switching
and VoIP as a couple of objectives. Does anybody know what's up with this?
Has anybody taken the exam in the last few weeks and can speak to this?

Thanks,
Trav
