Stus-List list problems
Agree, the list email problem seems to be resolved. Amazing. Chuck Custom laser engraved cutting boards are available at the C&C Photo Album site.
Stus-List List problems
I guess I was wrong. The problems started when I put the cutting board footer in the emails. Now we have identified the problem -- it is not with the list but specifically with how some email programs and providers handle the emails. What is disturbing is that one company decides what is best for you and all the other companies do not see a problem. Now as an experiment, I am adding a link to the body of this message. Let's see how it goes through -- http://www.cncphotoalbum.com/cutting_boards Stu There are no links in this footer.
Stus-List list problems
Don't know why it's happening, or how to fix it, but it's happening to a whole lotta members, it started after Stu's cutting board offer went out and I don't have this problem with any other emails, just those from the CNC list and not all of those. I'm using Comcast.net email on a HP laptop, running Firefox. Chuck S There are no links in this footer.
Stus-List List problems
I have removed the footer with an external link. There is still a footer - just no link. Instead of trying to identify the email servers, let's identify the mail programs being used - both sending and receiving. Stu using Thunderbird mail. There are no links in this footer.
Stus-List List The attachments are driving me nuts
Folks I have tried and tried to find the problem. The IT group that maintains our list program assure me it is not the problems. The program only relays what is sent to it and makes no changes. I tried contacting several email servers whose customers were experiencing problems, and I might as well talk to the wind. The problems are very sporadic and are not consistent by any means. I have several email accounts all with different providers and do not any problems. So I cannot relate to the problems. I am still using Windows Live Mail from Windows Essentials (no longer available) and Thunderbird Mail. Both programs access all of my email accounts and neither has shown any problems. I don't know what to suggest at this time except for you to experiment and try a different email app on your smartphone, laptop or desktop computers. I keep trying to find the problem and the solution but right now things do not look good. Stu Customized C&C Cutting Boards available at: http://www.cncphotoalbum.com/cutting_boards

Richard, I will send you pictures and a description of what you are facing to your email. It’s a big job but very possible. I haven’t heard of anyone else having to do this job and I believe most 37/40s have a poly tank rather than aluminum. The site called https://cnc-list.com/empathy/list/cnc-list.cnc-list.com came with the list upgrade. It is still in developmental stages and that is the reason I did not release it to our subscribers. Stus-List List Updates
Good morning everyone It looks like we are slowly getting rid of the problems associated with the new email programs. But there are still glitches that are being worked on. Most of the problems encountered now appear to be individual and associated with the mail program people are using. Each mail program is different, they all use different spam filters and and spam databases and have different methods for filtering emails into separate folders. Myself, I have experimented with a bunch including those provided by Microsoft, my hosting companies and freebies like gMail and Mail.com. Right now, all seem to be working okay but that could change anytime. My suggestion to everyone experiencing troubles is to sign up for a free account like gMail and use it only for this list. It might sound like a pain in the butt, but it should clear up some of your problems. If you are still having problems or concerns about the list, please send me a personal email (s...@cncphotoalbum.com) and I will address each of them. Sorry folks – the upgrade has not been easy – too many changes to configure. The search links are working. 1. Search the Photo Album – This link uses Google and searches the content of the Photo Album. 2. Search the Email Discussion List – This uses a new search engine designed for our list called Empathy. You can see the most current threads plus do a search of all archived messages. 3. Re: Stus-List List Now Fuel Spill
I overfilled my boat's tank once when we ran it for the first time and the fuel gage was broken. It wasn't much but the rainbow was on the water before I could stop it. I since replaced the gage. I never fill my boat's fuel tank unless I am taking a long trip. Don't want all that weight onboard or the fuel going stale. I've heard stories of racers calculating the commute to a race and measuring the fuel for a regatta. I bought my boat with an unknown amount of fuel and calculated the fuel to be over five years old. I ran the level down that season and then pumped the last 10 gallons into jerry cans I gave to a friend for his home furnace. I since buy diesel at a busy truckstop (fresh) and fill one or two jerry cans when I want to add fuel. I know this may incite the anger of condensation gurus but I check my water separator and do not find any issues with water. It seems more likely that water and sediment can be in fuel that comes from marina fuel tanks sitting for long periods of time and are located below the water table. BTW, my aluminum tank started leaking last year and I am replacing with a larger, plastic tank. I will probably need to keep more fuel in that, to keep the level up, but I don't intend to fill it unless we plan a long trip. After hearing that others can see the level in a plastic tank, I am encouraged to visually check the level when filling and never overfill. Thanks. Chuck, your last point caught my attention, "I had a bunch of gray gunk damming the flow of water from the hatch. By now, a lot of people have gone back to the archives and read the posts by Mr. Drew. It is his side of the story as he believes it happened. The Brokerage is not a member of the list but have been made aware of the posts (not by me). They have taken their own actions against Mr. Drew and are probably not at liberty to discuss the matter on this list or any social networking site. Some of our members have offered suggestions on purchasing a boat and many of them are good. But to suggest how to resolve the problems in litigation is not our place. That's what lawyers are for. Knocking or slamming a particular firm is fine until there is court actions involved. Then it should not be posted here unless you are willing to post both sides of the story. I doubt that will happen. At the same time, promoting a company because of the service they provided is 100% acceptable. It would be nice if you sent them a note too. So, at this time the judge (me) has ordered a 'publication ban' on this matter. We will just have to sit back and see what happens. Wow Stu, this database is gold. I've been saving the pages off the Wayback Machine. Looks like your owners list went offline (December 2015?) just before I bought my boat and joined this mail list (~February 2016). It would be nice if the database included the HINs of the boats, or at least the hull numbers. After a bit of searching, I found the solution: · Log in to Google Mail using your username and password. · Click the mail conversation you want to reply to with an edited subject or to trim the message. · In the textbox with the message “Click here to Reply or Forward,” click “Reply.” · To the left of the name of the person you are replying to, click the dropdown arrow. A pop-up menu appears. · From the pop-up menu, click “Edit subject.” Gmail’s new compose/reply window will appear for you to type your reply. · To edit the subject, click the cursor into the subject field and make the desired changes. I don’t know if Yahoo and Hotmail are the same or not. There could be other web-based email programs that prevent changing the subject line or trimming messages. Maybe one of our members can help out there. I can’t change much in the list mailing software, but I have made some changes: a) digests will be smaller is size – so you might get more than 1 a day depending on traffic on the list b) the actual size of messages to be sent has been decreased. So if you do not trim your messages, they may get rejected. In a previous message, some one asked “Who cares?”. The answer is ME! I own, maintain and pay for the list. So, when you are in my playground, you play by my rules. I would also suggest not using the digest unless you are on a radio link or cell phone link or something. Boat came out on Friday. :-( On the plus side once again the prayer meetings worked, not much growth on my boat (and lots on Bob's boat!). This was my third season on a coat of Micron CSC, a few barnacles but nothing significant. There is a J29 at the club that has VC Offshore on it, apparently it sat 2 months unused, and man that thing was a barnacle festival! End to end. Re: Stus-List List Also looking at a C&C 36 - engine at an angle?
In my experience, the prop offset was designed to offset the effect of “prop-walk” when motoring forward. The trade-off is that the boat will “prop-walk” much more in reverse with the offset. If you have ever tried to drive a fin-keeled boat that has no offset in the prop, you will very much appreciate the trade-off. Every fin-keeled boat with no offset that I have ever helmed pulled to one side with a surprising amount of force when motoring in a straight line, and that gets old quickly! On our boats, that means a slight offset to the port side for the prop but the amount needed changes with every prop and rpm setting. the bonus is that we can remove our prop shaft without dropping the rudder. The negative is that the boat will pull to port dramatically when you go to reverse and use a lot rpms. Chuck Current Boat? Past Boat? Previous Past Boat? The one before that? Or the oldest one you can remember? Many of the questions posed are relative to many different types of boats and many are related to experiences had on previously owned boats. The C&C 36 our family owned was in fact a C&C (as opposed to the rest of the boats I have owned) and a beautiful and powerful boat but my experiences on that were mostly as a passenger or crew and I had little knowledge of the intimate workings of the boat. On the other hand the Niagara 26 we owned was built and designed by George Hinterhoeller so was in almost every respect but name a C&C. Even used most of the same parts in its construction. The Frers 33 we currently own is not only compared extensively to the C&C 33-2 but has the same engine as many of the boats owned by people on this list. Then of course we must not forget the C&C 115 that we race on and spend more time on than our own boat…. So I guess that must be included as well …. Re: Stus-List List or forum
I rarely post, but do try to read most things. Some subjects are more important and relevant to me and some posts I just plain delete either because I have a zillion posts in my mailbox or because I'm not interested in subject or how the conversation has digressed from the topic. I would much prefer a forum format. I am part of the "Cruiser's and Sailing Forums" and it works very well for me. I would like to see something like it. This current list thing is a pain in my rumpus trying to find the posting I want and scrolling past all the endless copied posts that completely unnecessary. My emaill does NOT automatically sort through the minutia. Sure topics do tend to digress in the same manner, but - they send me an email automatically each day with latest topics posted to in a simple format with links to the post. - can look back a very long way in various topics and read up on the issue. This is helpful for new folks or if you have a new problem and you want to learn more from the past. - pictures are nice. Re: Stus-List List etiquette
Guilty as charged! Unless someone can advise me otherwise, there is no setting on the IPhone to remove the email history automatically when replying to a message. I would gladly use such a setting for C&C list emails. Deleting the history, while not too difficult, takes an extra couple of steps that I frequently forget to do. Those steps also unfortunately delete my "signature" which contains the list-requested boat class / location etc. ___ Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go to the bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com
Stus-List List etiquette
There is one particular thing that never seems to change on this list, and that is when some folks append the entire list digest when asking or answering a question. It would help everyone if the digest members would trim their post of all the extra digest contents. As soon as I see a quoted digest, *I stop reading*. It increases bandwidth usage and is irritating as hell. I vote 'LIST'.if this group of C&C owners (and Mike Hoyt) transition to something like a forum or Facebook, I doubt I will be participating. Re: Stus-List List or forum
Bob; It seems that what you are3 wanting is pretty much what is on the DIY pages of the photo album. Personally, I value the personal comments and experiences on the list, even if they are only tangentially related to C&Cs. There are folks on the list that I first "met" a couple of versions of the list - pushing 20 years - ago, and folks on the list who don't even own a C&C anymore. The list is a community. And as far as a CLOSED Facebook page goes, I have a friend with a new to her 29-2. She discovered the Photo Album and the list on her own. If the C&C 29 Facebook page is invitation only, how would she even find it, let alone get an invitation to join. The Phot Album and this list are one of the strongest reasons I can think of for buying an older C&C in preference to another brand. Re: Stus-List List or forum
I'd like to put forward a vote to try the forum. I've been using this list for over 12 years. I'm a big fan and try to give back and help newer skippers as I was helped when I first got my C&C. But I'm starting to think the forum format might be better? Sometimes I google a question on the web and find wonderful advice and recommendations from the other forums like Sailnet and Sailing Anarchy and many others, but I don't think the list is open to those kinds of searches? If Stu would like the challenge, fine. If its a pain to do, don't bother.
