(AP) - The federal judge who held President Clinton in contempt of court in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case said Friday she would fight any attempt to make her testify in Arkansas proceedings to disbar Clinton. ``If they summon me as a witness, I will file a motion to quash,'' U.S. District Court Judge Susan Webber Wright said during a question-and-answer period after a lecture at the University of Tulsa College of Law. Wright found Clinton in contempt in the Jones case and fined him more than $90,000 last year. The judge ruled that the president gave misleading testimony in a deposition about his relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Wright eventually ruled that the Lewinsky material was not essential to Jones' case and later dismissed the case altogether. Wright and the Southeastern Legal Foundation of Atlanta referred Clinton to the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct, which could disbar Clinton. Vaio PictureBook laptops containing Crusoe processors were released in Tokyo on Saturday (Japan time), Sony executives confirmed. For consumers, the most likely place to find the new notebooks will be the Akihabara, Tokyo's sprawling, modern electronics shopping area, said sources in Japan. Sony will follow up with Crusoe-based Vaios for the U.S. market Oct. 25, according to Mark Hanson, vice president and general manager of Vaio PC for Sony America. The appearance of the notebooks will mark a watershed moment in Transmeta's history. The company has developed a family of Intel-compatible processors that purportedly consume less power than competing chips from Intel or Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). As a result, Transmeta notebooks promise to be thin and light (because they need less insulation and no fans) and capable of running longer than other notebooks on a battery charge. To get the same performance from a standard processor "I would have to lose some mobility by adding fans" or batteries, Hanson said. Sony's Crusoe notebook, for instance, can run 2.5 hours to 5 hours on a single capacity battery, he said. The same notebooks run on Intel chips would last 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours with the same battery. What's the catch? Transmeta's claims haven't been tested by third parties. Although the Crusoe family debuted in January, neither the chips nor products containing the chips have been released on the open market. Analysts and independent benchmark testers have also complained about a lack of access to demonstration models. "I don't know if any third parties have been able to get one. I know I haven't," said Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst at Insight 64, who added, "The claims that are being made about battery life are a bit hard to swallow. The battery life should only improve by 10 to 20 percent." Besides power consumption, analysts will be curious to see how well Crusoe notebooks stack up against laptops containing Pentium IIIs or other chips. Crusoe chips perform many functions in software that other chips perform in hardware. Invariably, this will cause a performance hit, Brookwood and other chip experts have said. The question now is whether the dent in performance is substantial or irrelevant. Dave Ditzel, Transmeta's CEO, said in September that Crusoe-based notebooks will perform just as well as competing chips in real-world circumstances. "We designed Crusoe to deliver good performance with maximum battery life," he said. Hanson also pointed out that the new chips will be going into notebooks that haven't been able to take advantage of the latest technologies from Intel or AMD. The Vaio line the Crusoe chip will be featured in has, to date, depended on Pentium MMX or Pentium II processors, not Pentium IIIs. "We're getting a performance boost from where we were before," he said. Recently, Transmeta filed documents to raise $140 million in an initial public offering. The Vaio PictureBook CIVN to be released in the United States will weigh 2.2 pounds, contain a 600-MHz Crusoe processor, and measure less than an inch thick. It is high time, the last minute in fact, for the U.S. policy in the Balkans to adjust to the new reality. For a long time Mrs. Albright and her team at the State Department refused to recognize that Dr. Vojislav Kostunica is a real force in Serbian politics. They tried to hedge their bets: if Milosevic falls, theyll place his successors into a straightjacket on Kosovo and cooperation with the Hague tribunal, while claiming credit for encouraging democracy in Serbia. If he survives the turmoil and steals the election, it will justify sanctions and even future bombings. As Tom Fleming put it a few weeks ago, Albright is licking her bloody chops in expectation of another gory meal. Things are not going Albrights way in Belgrade now, however, and unless Washington -- even at this late stage -- changes its tune the U.S. will be rendered irrelevant in the post- Milosevic Balkan architecture, while Russia and the Europeans will be the winners. For some weeks now the Albright game, conducted with characteristically little skill and finesse, amounted to overt verbal condemnation of Milosevic and expressions of support for the opposition, while at the same time everything was done to help Milosevic survive. Lets look at the facts as reported by others. Kostunica not Clinton administration's man, reported UPIs Martin Sieff on September 25, a day after the Yugoslav election: Kostunica's rise has proven to be far from welcome to the Clinton administration, especially to Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright. Albright has spearheaded the efforts to make an example of Milosevic by having him handed over to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, capital of the Netherlands, and tried there as a war criminal. But Kostunica implacably opposes having Milosevic or any other prominent Serb tried as a war criminal, no matter how terrible was their conduct during the last nine years of conflict in the fragmented former communist federal state. He also regularly denounces the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia last year as criminal. And he flatly opposes granting independence to Kosovo, Sieff continued, which will present Washington with a far trickier problem than Milosevic does: U.S. leaders -- Republican and Democrat alike are now used to attacking Milosevic as, if not a Hitler, then at least a Saddam Hussein figure. They have made clear they hope that a pro-American opposition candidate will eventually succeed him and agreed to U.S.-mediated solutions to Bosnia and Kosovo. But Kostunica is not pro-American. He is as virulent a critic of recent U.S. policies as Milosevic himself. And he has said he is determined to not to give an inch on the Kosovo issue . . . From the Clinton administration's point of view, the trouble with Kostunica is precisely that he does appear to accurately express the democratic aspirations of the Serbian people. The only trouble is that they are not the aspirations that the Clinton administration would like them to be. The Administration accordingly went out of its way to scuttle any possible deal between Milosevic and his opponents that would entail a peaceful transition. When Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to mediate by inviting both Milosevic and Kostunica to Moscow last Monday, Mrs. Albright was quick in torpedoing the initiative. The State Department announced that the U.S. would expect Russia to turn over Milosevic to the Hague tribunal the moment he should show up in Moscow. There's an indictment that calls for any country to hand him over to The Hague, State Department spokesman Philip Reeker said on Tuesday, October 3. We expect the indictment to be followed. Asked how Putin's offer to mediate could take shape if the moment Milosevic showed up he would face extradition to the Hague, Reeker said: That's a question for Putin and Milosevic to discuss. Reekers final remark left no doubt of the position in Washington: We believe (Milosevic) should be out of power, out of Serbia and in The Hague to face justice. Period. Dr. Kostunica accused the United States of placing the destiny of one man ahead of the fate of an entire nation, but admitted that the Hague indictment brings us a lot of headache: It helped convince Milosevic that for him these elections are a question of life or death The whole of Serbia is being held hostage to one man. -Caveat Lector- E-Mail Special Counsel Sought CNSNews.com Friday, Oct. 6, 2000 A congressional committee is asking for the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the circumstances surrounding hundreds of thousands of missing White House e-mails. A 140-page report released Thursday by the House Committee on Government Reform stated that "a special counsel is needed to investigate obstruction of justice and perjury charges" against White House and Justice Department lawyers for not correcting what the committee called "false deposition testimony" from an administration computer specialist. Suspicion on Gore The report casts a suspicious light on Vice President Al Gore, whose office is accused of configuring the Office of the Vice President e-mail system in such a manner that it "would not store his records in a way that would permit compliance with document requests," according to the report. "There can be little doubt that the vice president's advisers knew that their actions would permit his office to operate in such a manner that would make it less susceptible to oversight," the report continued. In fact, a reconstruction of a fraction of the missing e-mails by the Federal Bureau of Investigation showed a number of notes indicating that Gore may have known more about the 1996 Buddhist temple fund-raising event than he previously testified to. One message noted in the committee report stated that the "the vice president was committed to do a fundraising event in Los Angeles on April 29, 1996." That particular e-mail, dated April 9, 1996, was called "significant" by the committee because there was "no mention of an event at another venue - a direct contradiction of representations that a separate fundraising event had been scheduled and then cancelled at the last minute." Further complicating matters is that federal law requires that all government records be preserved through the White House Automated Records Management System, otherwise known as ARMS. The committee report claims that Todd Campbell, a lawyer on Gore's staff, "personally decided that the vice president would not store his records in a way that would permit compliance with document requests," and accuses the Office of the Vice President of "re-inventing government to stay above the law and congressional oversight." Because so many e-mails were not stored in the ARMS system, the committee concluded that Gore's office "appears to have adopted a prophylactic program to guarantee that fewer documents would exist in the event that document requests were made." According to the committee report, the White House e-mail system failed to archive correspondence between September 1996 and November 1998, making it difficult if not impossible for the administration to fully comply with subpoenas and requests for documents in campaign finance investigations and the independent counsel inquiry that culminated in the impeachment of President Clinton. Historic Implications The significance of the e-mail failure was noted in the report with historic implications. "If senior White House personnel were aware of these problems... then the e-mail matter can fairly be called the most significant obstruction of congressional investigations in US history," the report said. "Hundreds of thousands of e-mails were never reviewed to comply with subpoenas," said committee Chairman Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., in a statement Thursday. "And I'm not just talking about this committee's subpoenas. I'm talking about Justice Department subpoenas. I'm talking about a court order from a federal judge." Burton dismissed reactions to the e-mail controversy as a "tempest in a teacup," saying the missing correspondence creates "a documentary trail of events as they unfold. In the computer era that we live in, you can't conduct an investigation without reviewing e-mails." Among the charges included in the committee report are allegations that White House officials not only threatened private sector workers contracted to find and fix problems with the e-mail system, but also forbid those workers from taking notes on their work and consulting with their supervisors. At least one employee of Northrop Gumman, the company that worked on the e-mail problem, was threatened by a White House staff member "with jail if he disclosed the existence of the problem," according to the report. Burton's committee said this intimidation resulted in inquiries by Congress and other federal agencies being "obstructed in their legitimate investigations," as well as increasing the taxpayer costs of all the investigations by dragging them out. White House officials were also accused of showing "disregard for the welfare" of Northrop Grumman staff by not letting them discuss their work on the e-mail system with their supervisors. Christopher Cox, California Republican and chairman of the House Policy Committee, and members of the Speaker's Advisory Group on Russia have just published a most devastating report on Russia's road to corruption, in which the Clinton-Gore administration is found guilty of failing the Russian people and exporting government instead of free enterprise to Russia. They strengthened the central government with inappropriate and misunderstood policies toward a post-Cold War Russia. Despite the fact it is a Republican partisan report, all of the indictment can be found in the American press and media over the past eight years, as the footnotes to the report demonstrate. The report also had the benefit of an advisory group that includes Democrats, Republicans, Russian and American diplomats, scholars and experts. It is impeccable scholarly and policy analysis of the Clinton-Gore foreign policy toward Russia. The major indictees are Vice President Al Gore, Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott, and then Deputy Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers. Under this troika, according to the report, "By focusing on strengthening the finances of the Russian government and on transforming state-owned monopolies into private monopolies, instead of building the fundamentals of a free enterprise system, the Clinton administration ensured that billions in Western economic assistance to Russia would amount to mere temporizing." The main culprit, of course, is President Clinton, who was unwilling to involve himself in foreign policy generally, and in critical issues of the U.S. policy toward Russia specifically. This administration forfeited a monumental historical opportunity to design an American post-Cold War policy that could usher Russia into the democratic Western world and into free enterprise. Compare this with Harry Truman, who succeeded in helping design a policy that moved Germany from its Nazi ignominiousness into a Western democratic society and restored Germany as a part of European and Western civilization. Mr. Clinton did not have the vision to do for Russia what Truman did for Germany. Truman did not leave the German-European Cold War policy to his vice president. Truman and his most senior advisers were responsible, as a commander-in-chief should be, for dealing with the most significant event after the utter defeat of Nazism. For 50 years we waged a Cold War to bring an end to the Soviet Union. When the end came, President Clinton had no historical or intellectual understanding of the significance of turning Russia away from central government and authoritarianism. He delegated his leadership responsibility in this area to the vice president, which meant it actually went to chief Russian adviser, Strobe Talbott. "The structure of the policy- making troika left the rest of the government either unwilling or unable to critically assess the direction of the Clinton administration policy." The Cox report lists other fundamental flaws of the Clinton administration Russian policy: A strong preference for strengthening Russia's central government; a close personal association with a few Russian officials who were among the main culprits of the corruption, especially with the corrupt former Prime Minister of Russia Viktor Chernomyrdin, who amassed more than $5 billion during the manipulation of privatization of energy after the collapse of the Soviet Union; a narrow focus on the Russian executive branch at the expense of the emerging democratic forces outside the Kremlin; "an arrogance toward Russia's nascent democratic constituencies that led to attempts at democratic ends through decidedly non-democratic means"; and, above all, in light of increasing corruption and mounting evidence of the failure of their policies, the troika was unwilling to recognize their monumental errors and continued to support a failing policy. Mr. Clinton effectively delegated the management of U.S.-Russian relations to Mr. Gore in April 1993 with the establishment of the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission, the function and structure of which "offered a perfect blueprint for the eventual failure of the entire Clinton administration policy toward Russia. By superseding normal policy-making and well-established intra- and intergovernmental channels of communication, the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission would come to impede the information flow to decision-makers in Washington . . . distracted Russian government officials from what should have been their main focus: constructing the essential elements of a free enterprise." The most critical indictment, next to the absence of the president, is the report's finding that the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission "contributed to a deliberately uninformed U.S. policy toward Russia." Wisconsin students working to free Texas convict October 7, 2000Web posted at: 2:29 AM EDT (0629 GMT) MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) -- Hours of work by University of Wisconsin-Madison law students and professors may soon pay off for a Texas man who has spent the past decade serving life in prison for murder. The Wisconsin Innocence Project successfully fought for DNA testing that could set Christopher Ochoa free and is now awaiting word from the Texas district attorney handling the case on what will happen next. Ochoa, 33, and another man were convicted for the 1988 rape and murder of Nancy DePriest, 20, a Pizza Hut worker in Austin, Texas. Both men were sentenced to life prison terms. Preliminary DNA tests showed Ochoa was not linked to the crime, said John Pray, co-director of the Wisconsin Innocence Project. The Capital Times reported the preliminary test results this week. The project is a two-semester course for second- and third-year law students. Pray said the Travis County district attorney's office did the DNA testing after the project began investigating Ochoa's case. Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle did not immediately return a telephone message Friday from The Associated Press. Assistant District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg told The Capital Times, "The only thing we're saying right now is that we are looking at the case." Keith Findley, the project's other co-director, said the district attorney's office is looking into reopening Ochoa's case. Wendy Seffrood, a third-year law student, sent letters to the district attorney, crime labs, hospitals and anyone else who may have handled evidence, urging them to preserve it for DNA testing. "The technology is vastly improved over where we were ... at the time the crime was committed," Seffrood said. Pray said some district attorney's offices and crime labs keep evidence for a long period while others immediately destroy it. "Mr. Ochoa is a lucky man because the DA didn't throw away the evidence," Pray said. Ochoa confessed to the crime, but Pray said he probably did so because he faced the death penalty. Students Cory Tennison and Brian VanDenzen were assigned to Ochoa's case at the start of the fall semester. "We've just been corresponding with Chris and updating him with what's going on," Tennison said. "He's still a little cautious. ... I think that he's just really looking forward to being a free man again." Tennison said they are looking into a report that another Texas inmate may have confessed to the murder in a 1996 letter to authorities. Findley said if Ochoa is set free, it would be the first case the project has resolved. It has received hundreds of requests from inmates and family members requesting its services. The following has been noted: The city of Paris was founded in the sixth century AD by the Sicambrian Franks, an aryan race of middle-eastern extraction. They were keen followers of occult pracices, and ritual and ceremonial magic was integral to their daily life. They settled first on the island now known as the Isle-de-la-Cite - a place they believed was a major power vortex on the Earth's surface, marked today by the Notre Dame Cathedral, built by the Templars. The central religious deity the Franks worshipped was the Moon Goddess known to the Romans as Diana, (aka Artemis, Isis, and others). The Franks built an underground chamber for the worship of Diana outside the Isle-de-la-Cite. Sacrifices to the Moon Goddess were made here, and the chamber was also used for the settling of certain disputes. The present day location of this underground chamber is...The Pont de l'Alma tunnel. Allusion to this is made in the name, Al-mah meaning the Moon Goddess in the ancient language of the Franks. Furthermore, a bizarre monument was placed outside the tunnel's entrance in the mid-1980's by the Parisian government. Allegedly a "symbol of Liberty", and a memorial to French servicemen who died in the Second World War, the monument consists of a torch over a black five-pointed star. Those familiar with the occult may be aware that this is not a symbol much associated with liberty. The Pont and Place de l'Alma are also the sites of major crossroads in the Parisian street system. The Moon Goddess is frequently said to be as female energy form composed of three aspects, Diana, Luna and Hecate. These represent the energy as manifest on Earth, Heaven and the Underworld. The latter, Hecate, the Queen of the Underworld, is very heavily associated with occult practices and ritual sacrifice. "Hecate's Day" is August 13th, but Satanic rituals, (black as opposed to white magic), to Hecate are better carried out on the 31st, reversal of numerals popular in Satanism. Sacrifices to Hecate are also invariably carried out at crossroads, places symbolic of the meeting of ley lines. Add these observations to the facts that Diana apparently bled to death at the scene of the crash, (absolutely fundamental to such a sacrifice), despite the rapid presence of medics; that the police radio system went off-air for twenty minutes at the time of the accident; that the surveillance camera system monitoring the route the Mercedes took malfuncioned the night of the crash; and that the car crashed into the 13th pillar in the tunnel, (the number 13, along with 33, are the two most powerful numbers in Western occultism) and you have a pretty good conspiracy theory. WASHINGTON, DC -- The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear five cases this session that involve the power of police to stop, search, and arrest you for drug and seatbelt violations -- proving that such "victimless crimes" are now the driving force behind the assault on our Constitutionally protected liberties, the Libertarian Party said today. "If police win the right to haul you off in handcuffs for not wearing a seatbelt, scan your house at whim with a thermal imaging gun, and set up random roadblocks so dogs can sniff your car for drugs then victimless crimes will be to blame," said Steve Dasbach, the party's national director. "These are the issues the Supreme Court will decide this term - - - and every one of these frightening expansions of police power is being justified by so-called crimes that have no victims. The War on Victimless Crimes has turned into an all-out War on the Bill of Rights." Starting this week, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear five major cases to determine whether law enforcement has the right to stop, search, test, restrain, and arrest people to enforce drug and seatbelt laws. The cases include: * Indianapolis vs. Edmond, which will decide whether police can set up random roadblocks on public streets to question motorists and use drug-sniffing dogs to inspect their vehicles. * Ferguson vs. Charleston, which will decide whether hospitals can secretly test pregnant women for cocaine, and turn the results over to police. * Illinois vs. McArthur, which will decide whether police can restrain people from entering their homes while police are seeking a warrant to search the premises for drugs. * Atwater vs. Lago Vista, which will decide whether people can be handcuffed and hauled off to jail for not wearing a seatbelt. * Kyllo vs. United States, which will determine whether police can scan homes with a thermal imaging gun, searching for heat patterns that may indicate a marijuana-growing operation. What do all these cases have in common? They all seek a dramatic expansion of police power and they all involves "crimes" where there is no victim, noted Dasbach. "The criminal justice debate is no longer about what is permissible when catching violent criminals like murderers, rapists, and robbers -- it's now about how far law enforcement can go in violating the Fourth Amendment to catch people who harm no one but themselves," he said. The cases being heard by the Supreme Court are not an unexpected side-effect of victimless crime laws, but a natural consequence, said Dasbach. "There's a reason why police aren't setting up random roadblocks to find people who have been the victims of robbery or a violent crime," he said."In those kinds of cases, people go to the police to seek justice. But with drug and seatbelt laws, there is no victim to complain -- just people engaging in consensual behavior that harms no one but themselves. "As a result, law enforcement must engage in police-state behavior to catch the so-called criminals. To combat victimless crimes, police use sting operations, paid informers, anonymous tips, no-knock raids, warrantless searches, and high-tech surveillance. Their impulse is to always push the boundaries of the Fourth Amendment -- until they begin to routinely violate everyone's privacy and rights." It's that last aspect that should be most troubling to Americans, said Dasbach, even to people who don't use drugs or violate seatbelt laws. "When police set up a random roadblock, a hundred innocent people are inconvenienced and threatened for every one person who is arrested," he said. "Your Constitutional rights are violated, your freedom is limited, and your safety is diminished -- just so police can catch a few individuals who engage in peaceful behavior the government has criminalized." These five cases give the Supreme Court an opportunity to draw a "line in the sand" about how far law enforcement can go to fight victimless crimes, said Dasbach. Fact: Even Gore's own budget office (June 28, 1999 OMB Mid-Session Review) states, "The economic expansion that began in April 1991" Gore said that he would balance the budget. Fact: The nonpartisan Citizens Against Government Waste estimates that Gore's total spending in the first five years of his administration totals $2.2 trillion (three times Bush's $712 billion.) The Congressional Budget Office estimates that, in the same period, the general revenue and Social Security surpluses will be a total of $1.4 trillion. Gore's "balanced budget" creates more deficit spending than Mr. Bush proposes in total new spending. Gore said that he wants to cut taxes for middle class families. Fact: In 1992, the Clinton-Gore campaign said it "includes $104 billion in tax cuts over four years for the middle class, the working poor, and corporations that make smart investments to create jobs." But after taking office, Gore cast the tie breaking vote on the largest tax increase in U.S. history, including $115 billion in higher personal income taxes, $31 billion in higher gasoline taxes, $25 billion in higher taxes on Social Security benefits, and $29 billion in more Medicare taxes. But it was chock full o' missed opportunities for George Bush to make the clear case for freedom and liberty. (Apparently, Mr. Bush's handlers did not pay attention to the Tuesday Brief's section listing the questions and zingers our readers wanted to hear George W. pin on Albert Gore.) Before commenting on Bush v. Gore -- more specifically Albert Gore's "facts" -- we should note that Dick Cheney missed few opportunities in his debate with Joe Lieberman. Unlike Mr. Bush, who repeatedly failed to challenge Gore's assertion that he invented the economy, the highlight of Cheney v. Lieberman -- the most uproarious moment of either debate -- came when Gore's veep was giving his man credit for "22 million new jobs...4 million new businesses...lower interest rates, low rate of inflation, high rate of growth." Lieberman then took a shot at Mr. Cheney: "And I'm pleased to see, Dick, from the newspapers, that you're better off than you were eight years ago, too." Without missing a beat, Cheney fired back, "I can tell you, Joe, that the government had absolutely nothing to do with it." Lieberman, befuddled by the audience laughter, interrupted moderator Bernie Shaw's next question saying, "I can see my wife, and I think she's thinking, 'Gee, I wish he would go out into the private sector'." Again, right on Lieberman's heels, Cheney responded, "Well, I'm going to try to help you do that, Joe." Mr. Cheney, who has been portrayed by Gore's media as a stuff-shirt, established himself as the major asset on this ticket The Federalist proclaimed him to be. Suffice it to say, conservatives should take some comfort in Cheney, even though his name is below Mr. Bush! Lieberman's goofiest line of the night came when Bernie Shaw apologized for asking a question out of order. Lieberman replied, "Good for you, Jim, it means you're human, like we are." Jim? Of course, Android Gore could never get away with the line, "human, like we are." The biggest lie in Cheney v. Lieberman -- and it was a whopper -- was Lieberman's claim, "I have not changed a single position on an issue since Al Gore nominated me as his vice president." Lieberman has reversed his positions on privatizing Social Security and school vouchers. He has reversed his position on moral issues, prompting Rabbi Yehuda Levin to say at the National Press Club yesterday, "We want the Christian community to know how Lieberman is viewed, and that's as a scandal and an embarrassment." Memo to Mr. Lieberman: In the future, if you are going to quote the Declaration of Independence, please quote it correctly. It is no more open for liberal interpretation than our Constitution. On to Bush v. Gore Mr. Bush repeatedly failed to confront Gore's erroneous mantra "spend the surplus on tax cuts." Gore must be held accountable for this insidious adulteration of the English language. Wanting to leave a little more of American's hard-earned dollars in their own pockets does not constitute "spending" government largess. It's our money! When Gore commented that he went to Vietnam because if he didn't, "Someone else from my hometown of Carthage, Tennessee, would have to go in my place," Mr. Bush should have countered this folklore spin to say, "First, your hometown is Washington, D.C. And second, only a few months into your one-year 'tour' in Vietnam as a 'visiting journalist,' you got special dispensation to come home and go to divinity school -- where you flunked out. I suppose someone else from your hometown of Carthage, Tennessee, had to finish your tour in your place." When Jim Lehrer asked, "Governor Bush, are there issues of character that distinguish you from Vice President Gore?" Bush softly made the point that Gore has repeatedly deceived the nation on a wide range of issues. "I think that people need to be held responsible for the actions they take in life. I think that that's part of the need for a cultural change. We need to say that each of us needs to be responsible for what we do. And people in the highest office of

I remember the day when I received a phone callfrom my friend Kaye Studstrup of S.E.Salt Lake City, telling me about whatshe learned from a friend of hers, Irvarene Davis, of West Valley City,Utah. -Caveat Lector- You make a very good point below, Mike. It is certainly one of the elements against allowing homosexuals to force themselves into the BSA. I'd like to add to this: On many of the "boylove" web sites, any of them "religiously" and philosphically oriented, these "minor-attracted adults" -- a term they themselves coined as an alternative to the negative sounding "pedophile" -- their big thing in life is "mentoring" a boy or boys. These homosexual male men, attracted to minors, seek ways to enter areas of life where they can be in a position of "mentoring" a boy or boys. They themselves say that this "mentoring" may or may not include sex: all depends on the boy, the situation, etc. These "boylovers", btw, now calling themselves "minor-attracted" adults, are organized, at least on the Internet, and advocate the lowering of the age of consent, and some advocate on various philosophic, "moral", and even "religious" grounds the doing away with age of consent laws entirely. They also do "out-reach" to pedophiles who in prisons, writing letters to them, offering "hope", etc., and no doubt NAMBLA represents many pedophiles in jail. These "minor-attracted adults", in effect, are, by doing so, "raising the consciousness of" emprisoned pedophiliac adults, as these groups ride the coat-tails of the homosexual agenda, mimicking the very militant homosexual tactics. The problem is that where Society envisions dirty men in trench coats, this is not actually the true picture of men who are "minor-attracted adults". Change the word "pedophile", a word with negative connotations, to another word -- and you've now changed the connotations to something more positive and finding that new word suddenly, now workable. We see this happening every day in many other areas of life. These issue of homosexuality and pedophilia are different terms to the mainstream Society, but in effect the end result is a blurring of the lines. These issues go far deeper than dirty old men flashing and acting out. Homosexuals, taken as a while, envision a type of Utopian Society, much like one might see on the older version of Star Trek with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, that is, a type of Society where access to children at very young ages, even at birth, is simply accepted, i.e. because pedophilia "simply IS" where no one is forced to hide their propensities, but is accepted. Traditional society needs to start looking at, not the stereotype, but at the actual forces at work which surround not only the militant homosexual agenda, but their coat-tail riders, and then Society will see quite easily what is behind the whole issue of the relentless attack by homosexual groups against the BSA. It isn't just "tolerance", "diversity", or any other cutesy-pie label newly minted and coined. Needless to say, the entire media helps perpetuate the roping off of a certain "class' of people, labelling them "pedophiles", a blind and smoke and mirrors to the fact that when it comes to the attack against the BSA, there is more at work than homosexuals wanting their "rights". I'd also like to add that allowing homosexual men to force their way into the BSA, would be pretty much a homosexual's DREAM, even regardless of whether that man would or could be termed a "pedophile". It would seem to me that a homosexual man "mentoring" in the BSA would allow for the subtle indoctrination on the unconscious level into "the world of men" as the homosexuals envision it. A teacher, after all, doesn't just teach facts, but also interacts with students informally. A homosexual person just is not in the position to pass on traditional family values, as their "world" consists of homoeroticism on a most fundamental level, a condition which seems to cover all aspects of life in their world view. The word "homosexual", after all, describing a lifestyle, gets its life with first of all the idea of sex One may argue that homosexual couples, both men and women, are now finding ways to adopt children legally, often via the test tube. Be that as it may, and no doubt we are headed towards one degenerate Society, but nevertheless homosexuals do not represent traditional family values, not in the manner in which "traditional" means. For many Chileans, this could mean only one thing: The mythical "Chupacabras," or "goat-sucker," Latin America's version of Count Dracula, was back in the news. In the northern desert town of Calama, where the "attacks" first began, locals immediately began to hang crosses in front of their homes. Jose Ismael Pino, a farm worker near the central city of Concepcion, is among the many Chileans who claim to have had an up-close experience with the Chupacabras. "It just stood there looking at me," Pino told local newspaper Cronica. "It stood about four feet tall, like a big monkey, with long clawed arms, enormous fangs protruding from its mouth, as well as a pair of wings." The monster has been variously described as a large rodent or a mutant kangaroo, while others claim it is a winged, ape-like being that walks in a zig-zag pattern. Lilliana Romero, a school teacher in Concepcion, Chile, told the local newspaper that she woke up in the middle of the night and saw a Chupacabras. "I crouched and looked through the window," she told El Sur. "I could see the back of what appeared to be an immense man, standing more than two meters [6 feet, 8 inches] tall. The shoulder blades were split, as if he had wings." The next day, Romero said, she found a completely bloodless dog dead in the alleyway behind her house. Another wave of hysteria swept Chile in May when rumors spread that three Chupacabras - a male, a female and a cub - were captured by Chilean soldiers near a mine north of Calama. Some locals even claimed that a team of NASA scientists arrived in a black helicopter and took them away. At the excavation of a prehistoric site in Provence, some 50 kilometres northeast of Marseilles, there were uncovered the remains of small stone houses arranged as if on a street. At the doorways of the houses were massive slabs. Most remarkably, bones of domesticated sheep were found along with kernels of grain. French scientists concluded that the inhabitants had been a previously unknown people who had begun the tradition of "megalithic" structures. The kernels of grain and animal remains were carbon-14-dated to 7000-6000 BC. Roussot-Larroque called this culture "Cardial" after a type of seashell that was the most common item in the kitchen garbage heaps of this Neolithic people. Then, in early 1986, a CNRS team found that the Cardials had also reached and settled Corsica in significant numbers in about 7000 BC. They had brought their sheep with them, so they must have had boats capable of carrying people and livestock 200 kilometres across the sea between Corsica and the Côte d'Azur. The Cardials had constructed megaliths on Corsica, too. Megalithic houses and supposed "temples" and "tombs" had long been known on Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, Crete and Cyprus. These ruins were mysteries. Who built them? When? Roussot-Larroque's discoveries suggested that the Cardials of mainland France had started the megalithic tradition and carried it to the Mediterranean islands as well as to the Atlantic coasts of Brittany and Britain. In northwest Europe, after a few thousand years, it had culminated in Stonehenge and Carnac. But who were the Cardials? Cardial C-14 datings from 7000 BC were unnerving because they were so close to the very earliest Neolithic radiocarbon dates from the Near East. Grains were cultivated at Jericho in about 6000-8000 BC. Domesticated cattle are known from the site of Çatal Hüyük in southern Turkey in about 7000-8000 BC. The early Cardial radiocarbon dates caused a stir in scientific journals. The new data were incorporated in the 1987 edition of the Larousse Histoire de la France. Cardial dating didn't cause a dramatic sensation only because they were still slightly later -- just barely -- than the established and accepted Near Eastern origin for the "Neolithic revolution." Then, the Syrian site at Jerf el-Ahmar was discovered and excavated (1996-1998). Conventional-minded archeologists breathed a sigh of relief. Jerf el-Ahmar's C-14 dates were a comfortable 9000 BC, superseding Jericho and Çatal Hüyük, and putting a little more time between the Cardials and the Near Eastern Neolithic. But there was a problem. Jerf el-Ahmar also revealed engraved pictograms containing "messages dating back to several millennia before the invention of writing," in the words of a January, 1999, CNRS information release. What was going on? Archeologists were uneasy, but with the Syrian C-14 dates, the idea could still be maintained that Cardials had come from the Near East and then had spread to the Mediterranean islands, to the French Mediterranean coast and then on to the Atlantic coast of northwest Europe. A CNRS map (from January, 1999) of Cardial migration illustrates this supposed route and direction. The crucial innovations of agriculture and animal domestication, the foundation of civilization, could still be attributed to the Near East. But not any longer. In August, 1999, in a discovery so recent it has not yet been published in scientific journals, let alone the popular press, a CNRS team excavated a prehistoric site at Viols-le-Fort some 60 airline kilometres north of Narbonne. They found the familiar Cardial stone houses, megalithic-style doorways and domesticated grains and sheep bones. The date? Two thousand years before any evidence of the Neolithic age in Asia Minor or Palestine:

I'd like to add to this: On many of the "boylove" web sites, any of them "religiously" and philosphically oriented, these "minor-attracted adults" -- a term they themselves coined as an alternative to the negative sounding "pedophile" -- their big thing in life is "mentoring" boys. These homosexual male men, attracted to minors, seek ways to enter areas of life where they can be in a position of "mentoring" boys. They themselves say that this "mentoring" may or may not include sex: all depends on the boy, the situation, etc. Is it any wonder the homosexual groups attack so vigorously the BSA? These "boylovers", btw, now calling themselves "minor-attracted" adults, are organized, at least on the Internet, and advocate the lowering of the age of consent, and some advocate on various philosophic, "moral", and even "religious" grounds the doing away with age of consent laws entirely. They also do "out-reach" to pedophiles who in prisons, writing letters to them, offering "hope", etc., and no doubt NAMBLA represents many pedophiles in jail. These "minor-attracted adults", in effect, are, by doing so, "raising the consciousness of" emprisoned pedophiliac adults, as these groups ride the coat-tails of the homosexual agenda, mimicking the very militant homosexual tactics. The problem is that where Society envisions dirty men in trench coats, this is not actually the true picture of men who are "minor-attracted adults". Change the word "pedophile", a word with negative connotations, to another word -- and you've now changed the connotations to something more positive and finding that new word suddenly, now workable. We see this happening every day in many other areas of life. These issue of homosexuality and pedophilia are different terms to the mainstream Society, but in effect the end result is a blurring of the lines. These issues go far deeper than dirty old men flashing and acting out. Homosexuals, taken as a while, envision a type of Utopian Society, much like one might see on the older version of Star Trek with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, that is, a type of Society where access to children at very young ages, even at birth, is simply accepted, i.e. because pedophilia "simply IS" where no one is forced to hide their propensities, but is accepted. Traditional society needs to start looking at, not the stereotype, but at the actual forces at work which surround not only the militant homosexual agenda, but their coat-tail riders, and then Society will see quite easily what is behind the whole issue of the relentless attack by homosexual groups against the BSA. It isn't just "tolerance", "diversity", or any other cutesy-pie label newly minted and coined. Needless to say, the entire media helps perpetuate the roping off of a certain "class' of people, labelling them "pedophiles", a blind and smoke and mirrors to the fact that when it comes to the attack against the BSA, there is more at work than homosexuals wanting their "rights". I'd also like to add that allowing homosexual men to force their way into the BSA, would be pretty much a homosexual's DREAM, even regardless of whether that man would or could be termed a "pedophile". It would seem to me that a homosexual man "mentoring" in the BSA would allow for the subtle indoctrination on the unconscious level into "the world of men" as the homosexuals envision it. A teacher, after all, doesn't just teach facts, but also interacts with students informally. In this exclusive interview, MIKE GEE chats with guitarist Ed O'Brien about what is arguably one of the most dramatic shifts in the history of popular music. Kid A. Who the hell is Kid A? And what's this ambient, electronic, neo-avant barely rock, oozing through speakers? Talk about dazed and confused. "God, what have Radiohead done?" pondered one headline lugubriously. "Why ... why this?" asked another critic. A perfectly romantic answer would be something like the unbearable darkness of being. Actually, it's got a lot more to do with challenge and change. Radiohead, you see, have just gone and proved that they don't give a damn about commercial music, about record company wants, about singles, radio and music television. They've just gone and spiked the lot. Grammy, NME, Ivor Novello, Radio One, Q and Rolling Stone award winners for perhaps the most celebrated album - and/or its associated singles and videos - of the '90s, OK Computer (it's only real contender is Nirvana's Nevermind), Radiohead could have sat back and lapped up the kudos while watching the cash roll in. Then, just as easily, they could have popped into the studio eased out a few more titanic guitar rock anthems and ballads in the mould of Paranoid Android, Karma Police, No Surprise, and sold another eight or 10 million albums. Lead singer and songwriter, Thom Yorke, could also have ensured his ascension to saintliness by angelically singing self-analytical songs about the foibles of being human and dealing with those nasty emotions which he defined so perfectly on Creep - the ultimate '90s anthem of self-loathing - a millstone he's never escaped since. It was never going to happen. Radiohead have no interest in preserving the status quo: OK Computer was such a smash precisely because it dared to be different. In the then world of 1997 with its boy and girl bands, Brit pop and second phase US bubblegum punk, Radiohead produced towering sonic landscapes through which Yorke - and that voice - weaved a strange magic. "I saw God," declared an Australian critic after seeing them in concert. And it was easy to understand what he was talking about. OK Computer became a religious experience, a hymn to the burden of being human. More than three years after OK Computer's release, Kid A presents a panorama few could have predicted. It's a brooding, heavily emotional, slightly-chilled, coruscating vision way beyond the threshold of the dream - and what is acceptable and what is not. Inspired loosely by the pulsating Krautrock of '70s legends Neu, Can and Faust, embracing the dictates of ambience defined by Brian Eno on his Music For Airports and touching on drum'n'bass, post-rock and even the Americana of Wilco, Sparklehorse and G randaddy, Kid A is, for the most part, a darkly moving electronic masterpiece. A symphony for a new millennium caught in a struggle for dominance between man and machine. Guitarist Ed O'Brien is in London: he hardly sounds like a man caught on the edge of an emotional abyss. In fact, he's about as down-to-earth as they come, nattering comfortably about the recent struggle between the record companies and Napster over the cans and can'ts of downloadable music, and a seven-day visit to Sydney in April to see his sister, during which he swam daily in the Glebe pool and followed that up with a cappuccino on the quick sip strip. He recalls with amusement hearing rock station Triple M serving up its greatest hits formula as he sat back and enjoyed his coffee and swears that on three days he heard Creep, sandwiched between staples from the US and Australian big rock pit. It reminded him of what his band had escaped. "And I'm glad we did," he says. O'Brien chuckles at the suggestion that Kid A will freak out a decent proportion of Radiohead's fans. He isn't concerned or apologetic. "It's funny," he says. "Obviously, it was a very conscious decision not to go down the same route we'd travelled before. In retrospect I don't think OK Computer sounded that much different to The Bends but this one does - it's a lot more textural and unlike anything we've done before. "What I think it comes down to is the methodology. Often the sound of your record is a by-product of the way you set it up and make it. What happened with The Bends and OK Computer was that we'd rehearse the new songs for a month and then, because we were touring a lot, we'd often play four or five new songs a night during the set or at soundcheck. By David C. Earnest and James N. Rosenau A group outside the world's established state system exploits tensions among sovereign countries to advance a pet cause. Heads of state attempt to coordinate their instruments of government to curtail that group's power. Meanwhile, the tensions between sovereignty-bound governments and this sovereignty-free rival threaten dire consequences for all humankind. To contemporary globalization theorists, it is a familiar story. But it is also the central plotline of practically every James Bond moviemany of which were written by novelist Ian Fleming and adapted by screenwriters decades before scholars ever pondered such ideas. Art doesn't just imitate life, as the cliché goes, it anticipates it: The first signs of the coming "century of war" were manifest in the popular novels of the late 19th century, such as Sir George Chesney's The Battle of Dorking (1871). The earliest indicators of the contemporary Space Age appeared in science fiction and comic strips published decades before the 1950s. Given our modern celluloid sensibilities, it makes sense that television and motion pictures should presage how the 21st century will unfold. But Bond, James Bond? Espionage is the most Cold War of genres. Even 007's boss "M" dismisses him as a "relic of the Cold War" in Goldeneye (1995), echoing the sentiments of many movie critics. But as early as the 1950s, before Sean Connery first brought Fleming's hero to the screen, James Bond's world was shaken, and stirred, by phenomena we've come to identify with globalization. Indeed, compared with the real crises of the 1960s and 1970s, Bond's world seems strikingly modern. Each story consists of several fundamental, predictable elements: The antagonist is a sovereignty-free actoreither a person or an organizationthat threatens the welfare and security of a society or perhaps the entire world. This sovereignty-free actor thrives within the folds of the sovereign state systemareas of activity that states are unable or unwilling to regulate, such as international organized crime, arms trade, terrorism, or international commerce. To combat a challenge to their authority and protect and provide for the common welfare, state officials must put aside their disagreements and cooperate. Consider 007's nemeses. The most memorable of Fleming's villains is an organization called SPECTRE, the "Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion." Campy, to be sure, but not unfamiliar in its methods. This sovereignty-free actor seeks to squeeze money from states and to humiliate governments, either to create fissures in international alliances or to spark popular unrest and political instability. In Thunderball (1965) and Never Say Never Again (1983), SPECTRE hijacks nuclear weapons to pry a hefty ransom from world powers. The tensions of the space race almost explode into armed conflict when SPECTRE steals U.S. and Soviet spacecrafts in You Only Live Twice (1967). While these goals may be crude in literary terms, they prophesy the methods of contemporary sovereignty-free actors such as millionaire and alleged terrorist Osama bin Laden or the various Colombian drug cartels. These groups thrive by exploiting the inability of states to cooperate and maintain control of transnational technological, financial, commercial, and migratory flows. Other Bond villains seem even more modern: A financier tries to hoard gold to sow instability in foreign exchange markets and ruin industrial economies in Goldfinger (1964), much like financier George Sorosif you believe his critics. Multinational corporations seek to monopolize markets and use international conflict to create demand for their products in A View to a Kill (1985), a vision of the world that demonstrators at the World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting in Seattle would have found familiar. Millenarian mass murder appears as a theme in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), and Moonraker (1979), anticipating the recent mass murders and suicides in Uganda and outside San Diego (not to mention Jonestown two decades earlier), and highlighting the persistent inability of states to protect their citizens from violence. The ironic message of these films is clear and prescient: States are better at protecting their citizens from the violence of other states than from the violence and exploitation of sovereignty-free actors, whether they be cults or corporations. Time to start looking for a new one A HUNDRED years is a suspiciously round number. But if researchers at CERN, the European particle-physics laboratory near Geneva, turn out to be correct, it is exactly the period needed to build a model of how the universe works. Construction began in 1900 with Max Plancks publication of the first incarnation of quantum theory. Since then, and particularly with the development of high-energy particle accelerators in the 1930s and 1940s, the structure of matter has been probed in greater and greater detail while theorists have sought to impose order on what has been discovered. The result of their labours, now known as the standard model, will be completebar the odd dotting of is and crossing of tswith the discovery of a particle called the Higgs boson. This would round off the 18-strong menagerie of fundamental, irreducible particles required by the model. (The 17th, known as the tau neutrino, was announced two months ago by researchers at CERNs American rival, Fermilab.) And over the past few weeks indications have emerged from CERN that the Higgs is indeed a reality. Discovering the Higgs would be an impressive piece of work. Historians of science may, however, pause at this point. For it sounds suspiciously like the consensus that prevailed at the end of the 19th century, just before the publication of Plancks paper. Then, too, physicists had a description of the universe that had few apparent flaws. Some of the more hubristic thought the job was done and that the science they had created was, in effect, a theory of everything. But it wasnt. Classical physics, as it is now called, turned out to be a mere engineers approximation to realitygood enough for everyday working, but actually explaining nothing fundamental. Today, physicists are more cautious. Few believe that the standard model is really a theory of everything, but none knows for certain what the next stepthe equivalent of Plancks paperwill actually be. That, however, makes the future of physics much more exciting. For the first time in several decades (assuming that the worlds taxpayers will continue to fork out for the necessary equipment) fundamental physics will become a voyage into the unknown. Brave new world At first sight, the standard model looks relatively simple. The 18 particles are divided into fermions (the actual constituents of matter) and bosons (which carry the forces that allow fermions to interact). The fermions themselves are divided into two groups, the quarks and the leptons. Each of these comes in three generations, or flavours, of successively heavier species. The first-generation consists of the ingredients of everyday matter. Its quarks, the up and the down, are the bits inside protons and neutrons, the constituents of atomic nuclei. The first generation of leptons consists of the electron (the third constituent of atoms) and its corresponding neutrinoa particle so small that people are still arguing about whether it has any mass at all. Particles of the second and third generations are mostly short-lived and so rarely found outside particle-physics laboratories, though they were common at the beginning of the universe. The second generations quarks are known as charm and strange; its leptons are the electron-like muon and the muon neutrino. The quarks of the third generation are called top and bottom; its leptons are the tau and the tau neutrino. The most familiar of the bosons is the photonthe particle of light. Photons carry the electromagnetic force, the weakest in the standard model, and have no mass. The second force in the model, known as the weak nuclear force, controls radioactive decay. It is stronger than the electromagnetic force, but operates at shorter range, and is carried by three bosons, the W+, the W- and the Z. Weak bosons, unlike photons, are massive. The models third force, known as the strong nuclear force, is the most powerful of the three. It holds quarks, and thus atomic nuclei, together. This force is carried by particles known as gluons. To confuse matters further, the strong-nuclear charge comes in three varieties, known to physicists as red, green and blue. Because of their different colours each quark comes in three varieties, and there are eight distinguishable gluons. Gluons, like photons, are massless. All very neat. But then there isor at least there ought to bethe Higgs. The Higgs boson was actually the standard models first kludge. "Some who have not read the book feel it is just like witchcraft, but after you read it you will not feel that way," she said. "This really makes Chinese kids excited," said Zhang. This particular operation, IIRC, was widely trumpeted by the Pentagon as an example of the military cooperation between NATO and the new nations emerging out of the collapsed Soviet Union. In any event, the pictures are so amateurish that they provide zero information...no unit insignia are visible, for example. -Caveat Lector- To add to the current fluoride safety debate, perhaps the article, attached below, taken from the National Pure Water Association's website (www.npwa.co.uk) may be of interest. Whether fluoride is or can be proven conclusively to be safe or not is only *one* aspect of the debate. The other side is whether mass medication is ethical. Put quite simply, the answer has to be an unequivocal "NO". Water is supplied to fulfil the requirements of water, plain and simple. Medication is the domain of physicians, and the consent to taking such chemicals lies with the individual. Everyone consumes tap water, whether as a drink or in cooking. If water was fluoridated, my liberty to chose medication has been stolen from me. Whether fluoride is safe or not is, and has to be irrelevant - for the basic question is "Can we allow the public to be mass-medicated against their free will?". The British Dental Association, British Medical Association, Area Health Authorities and others have continued for years to lobby parliament to force a change in the law to compel water authorities to fluoridate drinking water throughout Britain if the Health Authorities request it. But from the evidence presented here it is clear that experts disagree as to the benefits and dangers associated with fluoridation. The first obvious question to be answered, therefore, is: should the whole population be put at risk for the possible benefit of a minority? We are already overfluoridated When drinking water was first fluoridated in the 1940s, that was the only source of fluoride in the food supply. Today all that has changed: it is difficult to find a toothpaste which does not contain fluoride; fluoride may also be found in canned drinks, fruit juices, tea, meat, vegetables -- in fact all foods which have been grown or manufactured using fluoridated water. So is it really necessary to add more to tap water? And as it seems we are not sure what is a safe limit for fluoride, is it even safe to add more to tap water? The evidence suggests strongly that it is not. Fluoridation of tap water forces us all to take the risk of this dubious and, for most, unnecessary medication whether we want to or not as domestic water filters do not filter fluoride out and bottled water is both suspect and expensive. Even if there were conclusive evidence that fluoridation is of benefit to one section of the population, it cannot be right to prescribe it for all if it has been shown to cause harm to others. And whether it is dangerous or not, and whether it is good for children's teeth or not are really irrelevant. There is no ethical reason why everyone, like it or not, should be subjected to any form of mass medication. . . . is it legal? It may not even be legal : in English law, medical treatment without consent is only permitted by court order for convicted felons, for the mentally ill, or for minors with the consent of their guardians. Surely it cannot be ethical for any health professional to prescribe medication for persons he has not met, whose past medical histories are not known, whose current medical needs are not known, where the dose that each individual will take in is not known, when it is not known whether the medication will react with other medications being taken, or even whether those people need the medication at all. Fluoridation is an affront to human dignity which is explicitly recognised as a major objective in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. The foundation of the legal rights and liberties of the individual is the principle of that individual's responsibility for his conduct and his own interests, chief among which is his health. Fluoridation encroaches on a person's sovereignty over his body and the selfsame principle that seeks to justify fluoridation would also justify adding tranquillisers, vitamins, antibiotics, contraceptives, laxatives or anything else to the water supply: it could justify putting nicotine in the water supply to help smokers give up, for example. This is the principle of totalitarianism. Fluoridation is not only against the spirit of the laws of England, it is contrary to the letter of the law. Even if fluoridation eventually proves to be safe, which seems highly unlikely, the psychological damage that will be done to those who fear the side effects of fluoride and cannot avoid it could cause much more ill health than toothache ever will. Adding insult to injury of those who do not want fluoride will be the knowledge that they will have to pay for this intrusion on their rights while being harmed by it. Kendall arranged for the owner of the company's Chilean bottling operation to meet National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger on September 15. Hours later, Nixon called in his CIA chief, Richard Helms, and, according to Helms's handwritten notes, ordered the CIA to prevent Allende's inauguration. But this is only half the story, according to Korry. He claims the US conspiracy against Allende's election did not begin with Nixon, but originated - and read no further if you cherish the myth of Camelot - with John Kennedy. In 1963, Allende was heading towards victory in Chile's presidential election. Kennedy decided his political creation, Eduardo Frei, the late father of Chile's current President, Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, could win the election by buying it. Kennedy left it to his brother, Bobby, the Attorney-General, to put the plan into action. The Kennedys cajoled US multinationals into pouring $2 billion into Chile, a nation of only 8 million people. This was not benign investment, but what Korry calls 'a mutually corrupting' web of business deals, many questionable, for which the US government would arrange guarantees and insurance. In return, the American-based firms kicked back millions of dollars to pay for well over half of Frei's successful election campaign. By the end of this process, Americans had gobbled up more than 85 per cent of Chile's hard-currency earning industries. The US government, the guarantor of these investments, committed extraordinary monetary, intelligence and political resources to protect them. Several business-friendly US government front organisations and operatives were sent into Chile -including the American Institute for Free Labor Development, infamous for sabotaging militant trade unions. Then, in 1970, US investments, both financial and political, faced unexpected jeopardy. A split between Chile's centre and right-wing parties permitted an alliance of communists, socialists and radicals - uniting behind the socialist Allende - to finish the presidential election 1 per cent ahead of his nearest rival. That October, Korry, a hardened anti-communist, hatched an off-the-wall scheme to block Allende's inauguration and return Frei to power. To promote his own bloodless intrigues, the ambassador claims he 'back-channeled' a message to Washington warning against military actions that might lead to 'another Bay of Pigs' fiasco. (Korry retains a copy of this still-classified cable.) But Korry's prescient message only angered Kissinger, who had already authorised the Pepsi-instigated coup, scheduled for the following week. Kissinger ordered Korry to fly in secret to Washington that weekend for a dressing-down. Still not knowing about the CIA plan, Korry told Kissinger in a White House corridor that 'only a madman' would plot with Chile's ultra-right generals. I have been retaliated against, transferred, demoted, terminated,
threatened, received death threats, and harassed by U.S. Customs for doing
my job and reporting illegal activity and corruption.
I and my 13 year old daughter were even stopped illegally by the local
Police and Customs Inyternal Affairs on a "pretextual" traffic stop for
"tinted" windows that were LEGAL.(I am also a former police officer too and
I know the difference) I was illegally detained, questioned, searched,
property seized, my daughter was questioned illegally, etcThey later
admitted that they just wanted to see if I would violate the law.(badge them
or something)
That's called ENTRAPMENT.
I was even charged with a "previous weapons conviction" that NEVER happened.
All charges were dropped 6 MONTHS LATER and I got my property back.(court
costs, attorney's fees, stress, etc...)
They are really sending a message on whistle-blowing aren't they?
I am also a licensed private investigator with a state issued license to
have a weapon on me or in my car.(I have had documented death threats)
This type of harassment should NEVER have ocurred.
I now have a lawsuit filed in the southern California District Federal Court
in San Diego ('00 1215 JM NLS ) and summons will be served by 10-16-00.
I really would like to have an attorney on my case, but NO ONE wants to
represent a "whistle-blower" without $100,000 down. (If I had that kind of
money, I could buy my own damn attorney)
If I was corrupt and taking bribes, I would never have had to worry about
this, right?
What the hell is happening to our Country that we don't support the loyal
law enforcement and whistle-blowers that expose corruption? Now everyone
wonders why the "others" don't give a damn.
Most major police agencies have corruption, but they do NOTHING to prevent
it and the managers get away with it ALL the time.
By the time "They" come to your door, it will be too late.

Since the Seattle protests ten months ago there have been at least 50 separate episodes of civil unrest in 13 poor countries, all directed at the IMF. Half of these protests have ended in violent clashes with the police or military. In one country the protests led to a military coupe. The report uncovers a previously undocumented pattern of protest against the policies of the International Monetary Fund. It links these policies to a catalogue of riots and civil unrest in poor countries around the world. The World Development Movement publishes its report, called `States of Unrest: Resistance to IMF Policies in Poor Countries', on the eve of massive protests against the IMF at its annual meeting, in Prague. Jessica Woodroffe, co-author of the report said: "Attempts by the World Bank and IMF to dismiss protesters as `rich students' are naïve and insulting. Millions of people around the world have been brave enough to protest against IMF policies. This Congress is no exception. As soon as Tuesday, the House may vote on a bill, which has already passed the Senate, to drastically expand government power to conduct secret searches without judicial approval. The bill in question comes from Senators Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). It is S. 2516, "The Fugitive Apprehension Act." The bill allows the government to obtain any kind of document it wants, without first getting a search warrant or a subpoena from a court. These documents include any written or electronic document possessed by an individual-or possessed by a third party (such as bank records, credit card records, telephone records, school records, or an Internet Service Provider?s customer records). In other words, the bill guts the Fourth Amendment requirement that private documents should be searched only after a court issues a warrant based upon probable cause. Even worse, section 3(g) of the bill allows these document seizures to be conducted secretly, so that the individual might never be told that his bank records, Internet records, or other documents have been searched by the government. The bill currently applies to apprehension of "fugitives," which include people who have been charged (not convicted) of a crime, at both the federal or state level. In other words, if your wife?s second cousin never showed up in court for his drunk driving trial, the government could look at your bank records, telephone records, Internet records, and every other document about you-without a court order, and without ever telling you. There is no law enforcement need for this provision. Under the All Writs Act, a United States Attorney can go to court, and present reasons why he needs access to private records. If the court agrees (it almost always does), the court issues a subpoena to obtain the records. This system is working well, and, notably, the United States Attorneys are not asking to change the law. Even so, there is a very strong chance that S. 2516 will become law next week, unless Congress hears of widespread opposition. The American Civil Liberties Union, which is leading the fight against the bill on Capitol Hill, is urging to citizens to contact their Representatives and their Senators over the weekend and on Tuesday morning, in every way possible: at town hall meetings, by calling DC and local Congressional offices, and by sending e-mail or faxes. Because House Speaker Dennis Hastert has great discretion over whether to bring S. 2516 to the House floor, King urges people all over the U.S. to call his office. The main Congressman opposing S. 2516 is Representative Bob Barr (R-Georgia). The very conservative Barr is a former United States Attorney, and one of the most prominent "law and order" Republicans in Congress-as shown by his leadership in the effort to impeach President Clinton. For more than 300 years, the Thurn und Taxis held the monopoly over imperial communications and post between Vienna and the far flung Habsburg possessions that formed the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. The Thurn und Taxis had humble beginnings in the XVth century. Emperor Frederick III celebrated half a century on the throne in 1490, then decided to strengthen the communications system within his empire. The Habsburgs had recently acquired Tyrol, and in the coming years would also incorporate Burgundy and the Low Countries to their expanding empire. Frederick III knew that without effective communication it would be impossible to govern the expanding Habsburg lands. With this task in mind, the emperor offered a communications monopoly to the Thurn und Taxis family, which had already proved its efficiency in providing support to the empire's communications. It was then that Franz von Thurn und Taxis obtained the mail monopoly over all the Habsburg lands. For the next three centuries the name Thurn und Taxis was synonymous with transportation and communications. It was also synonymous with wealth as the Thurn und Taxis prospered greatly from their services to the Habsburgs. The Thurn und Taxis originated from the region of Bergamo in Italy. Their letters of nobility were granted by Emperor Maximilian I in 1512 in recognition for services given to the Habsburg family. Emperor Charles V confirmed his grandfather's granting in 1534. According to the Almanac de Gotha, the Thurn und Taxis family were made Barons of the Empire in 1608. Almost two decades later, Emperor Ferdinand II elevated the family to Counts of the Empire in 1624. They were made princes by the Spanish Court in 1681 in recognition for their services. Finally, the Thurn und Taxis received their princely title in the Holy Roman Empire in the 1695 from Emperor Leopold I of Habsburg. No other enterprise could guarantee transportation and communications with the reliability provided by the Thurn und Taxis. By the end of the XVIIIth century it took five days for a letter to travel from Brussels to Innsbruck, while it took forty hours to travel from Brussels to Paris. It was a performance record that only the Thurn und Taxis system could match. The family used a horse relay system that allowed for uninterrupted travel from one European capital to another. It was Napoleon Bonaparte who first attacked the Thurn und Taxis monopoly. And as the XIXth century progressed, the family gradually lost it completely. The loss of the mail monopoly did little to affect the power of the Thurn und Taxis for by then, the family had diversified into a myriad other enterprises from foodstuffs to banking to railroads. Their wealth was vast and very few other European families could match it. The Thurn und Taxis not only profited in their many enterprises. Their matrimonial alliances were also a source of great pride and achievement. From their origin in Bergamo to becoming the couriers of the imperial court in Vienna, the family also expanded its relations through the palaces of the German nobility. One of the first prominent matrimonial alliances of the family was that of Eugene-Alexander, I Prince of Thurn and Taxis, to Princess Anna of Fürstenberg. His successor, Anselm-Franz, married into another renowned princely family when he wed Princess Maria of Lobkowicz at the beginning of the XVIIIth century. The Third Prince of Thurn and Taxis, Alexander-Ferdinand, continued these successful matrimonial alliances by marrying Sophia Chistianne of Brandenburg. His heir, the Fourth Prince married Duchess Augusta of Wurttemberg. Karl-Alexander, the Fifth Prince of Thurn und Taxis was married to Duchess Theresa of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, a relative of Queen Charlotte, wife of George III of Great Britain. The family reached the pinnacle in 1858 when Maximilian, Hereditary Prince of Thurn und Taxis, married Duchess Helene in Bavaria, sister of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Helene in fact, was initially chosen as Emperor Franz Joseph's bride, yet her vivacious and lovely younger sister attracted the young emperor's eye and conquered his heart. Nonetheless, Maximilian of Thurn und Taxis could count the Austrian emperor as a brother-in-law. Wouldnât the verdict in his criminal trial be a swift "not guilty" if he had the opportunity to "doctor" the evidence? This is precisely the situation which occurred in the murder of President John F. Kennedy beginning the very night of the assassination. Although the proof of the disappearance and reappearance of the JFK evidence has been lying right in front of researchers since the fateful weekend, no one seems to have perceived the significance of the matter. However, at least one person with access to official federal government documents apparently recognized this significance and took steps to conceal it from the American public. This issue began the evening of November 22, 1963, when Dallas Police Chief Jesse Curry began receiving calls from Washington. As he related to Warren Commission member Allen Dulles, "We kept getting calls from the FBI. They wanted this [assassination] evidence up in Washington, in the [FBI] laboratory, and there was some discussionâ¦" Curry made it clear that "we felt this was a murder that had been committed in the county, city and county [sic] of Dallas, and that we had prior, I mean we had jurisdiction over this. The FBI actually had no jurisdiction over it, the Secret Service actually had no jurisdiction over it⦠"[Homicide Capt. Will] Fritz told me, he says, `Well, I need the evidence here, I need to get some people to try to identify the gun, to try to identify this pistol and these things, and if it is in Washington, how can I do it?â" But someone in Washington was most persistent. "We got several calls insisting we send this (evidence), and nobody would tell me exactly who it was that was insisting, âjust say I got a call from Washington, and they wanted this evidence up there,â insinuated it was someone in high authority that was requesting this, and we finally agreed as a matter of trying to cooperate with them, actually." Consistent rumors in Dallas have long been that President Lyndon B. Johnsonâs assistant Cliff Carter made the calls. On the basis of this pressure from Washington and against their better judgment, the Dallas police reluctantly released all of the assassination evidence to the FBI. "â¦we finally, the night, about midnight of Friday night, we agreed to let the FBI have all [emphasis added] the evidence and they said they would bring it to their laboratory and they would have an agent stand by and when they were finished with it to return it to us," stated Curry. However, much of the evidence was never returned to Dallas. Curry told the Warren Commission on April 22, 1964, "Subsequently they photographed these things in Washington and sent us copies, some 400, I think 400 copies of different items. So far as I know, we have never received any of that evidence back. It is still in Washington, I guess. Perhaps the Commission has it." "Yes; the Commission is still working with it," responded Commission General Counsel J. Lee Rankin. What the Dallas authorities did receive was "very poor reproduction of some of these items on microfilm", according to Fritz. There is no doubt that the FBI received the assassination evidence late on the night of the crime. A document signed by J. Edgar Hoover himself stating that "No latent [finger]prints of value were developed on Oswaldâs revolver, the cartridge cases, the unfired cartridge, the clip in the rifle or the inner parts of the rifle," was dated November 23, 1963. Yet the journeys of this vital evidence apparently was unofficial and was never made clear to the public. The first official word on the transfer of assassination evidence came on Tuesday, Nov. 26, when both Dallas newspapers carried stories announcing that the evidence was to be turned over to federal authorities. So now the FBI was officially on the case and officially in charge of the evidence. But what could have happened during the two days while the evidence was unofficially in their hands. Fabrication, substitution, elimination, alteration - anything could have been done to the evidence, with no effective "chain" of responsibility. Unlike 1963, today the FBI has come under suspicion of poor management of evidence at best and downright falsification of evidence at worst. Under Hooverâs iron control, it was have been an easy matter for certain ranking Bureau officials to do with the evidence whatever they pleased. And evidence exists for just such speculation. For example, FBI document Dallas 89-43 dated Nov. 29, 1963, and first publicly released in 1968, stated brown wrapping paper in the Texas School Book Depository "was examined by the FBI Laboratory and found to have the same observable characteristics as the

In a Jan. 27 conversation summarized by Harmon in one e- mail, Cheney expressed hope that other companies would push the proposal past a State Department objection and ``asked if I had any suggestions or thoughts.'' Loan Guarantees The Tyumen loan guarantees were approved in March by the Ex- Im Bank, a U.S. government agency that helps finance sales of U.S. goods abroad. In March 1997, OPIC provided ``political risk insurance,'' with up to $200 million of coverage, to a Halliburton subsidiary for development of natural gas in Bangladesh, according to an OPIC news release. The Halliburton unit owns a 25 percent stake in the project. No Mention Cheney made no reference to these government programs that benefited his former company when he claimed that his personal income over the past eight years owed nothing to the government. His campaign reaffirmed his statement today. Cheney's spokesman Dirk Vande Beek said Cheney's business ``wasn't successful because the government gave them something.'' Cheney has reported earning $20.2 million in adjusted gross income from 1993, when he left his job as U.S. defense secretary, through 1999. In August, after his selection as the Republican vice presidential nominee, Cheney realized an $18.5 million profit by exercising some of the stock options received as compensation from Halliburton, according to regulatory filings. He recorded a $3 million gain on a similar transaction in May.
