Hi Q

The problem is more complex, I installed SC 7.2.1 on another PC for the
first time.

On this new PC I have no problems with the problematic MP3 files. I
copied all my MP3's
to the new machine.

Conclusion: on my old normal SC PC there must be some setting (in
WinXP-SP3 or SC itself) messing up things.

I think I will un-install SC completely, removing both the \Program
Files\SC and \Application Data\SC directories, and try 7.2.1 from
scratch so-to-speak

Re: [slim] Squeezebox without a computer...

2008-10-25 Thread Vladimir36

No, I don't have any kind of Squeezecenter instaled on my system.
Squeezenetwork is server for my Sueezebox!

On site - http://www.squeezenetwork.com/settings/favorites - I can
locate music files on my USB stick and make it my Favorites.
With DynDns service my router now have a static IP address. It's
important because Squeezenetwork can't connect to local files...

The whole idea is to have my music on my hard drive or USB stick, so I
don't have to upload large files on distant computer.
And, of course, without any hardware except router which I must have
anyway.

USB stick can be directly plugged in my computer for music upload or I
can upload music with FTP...

I guess that you have a reliable and fast connection. I might have

[slim] Very frustrating

2008-10-25 Thread tyeguy

Hello All

I've owned my Squeezebox system for almost 2 months now and have met
with many frustrations. I'm hoping that others might assist in telling
me what I'm doing wrong.

I have 1 Squeezebox Controller, and 2 Receivers - one receiver is for
music upstairs, and one is for downstairs. I play music through the
SqueezeNetwork coming from the Internet.

My two areas of frustration are connection and syncing of the two
receivers.

On the connection issue - I will be listening to music, when for no
apparent reason, it stops. When I look at the controller screen, it
will usually say Stopped. I've gone through the settings and I can't
see anything that cause this. Last night I went out and left music
playing as company for my dog. When I arrived home, I was met with
silence. Why the heck is it stopping??

My second frustration is the syncing of the two receivers. The
settings show that they are suppose to be synced, however, it takes
many attempts to get them going in concert. What I usually have to do
is connect to downstairs, try a internet station, then connect to
upstairs, try an internet station, and then hit play several times
before it finally matches up. I shouldn't need to go through this
ritual every day.

As I said above, I'm hoping that others might be able to assist. Right
now I'm very disappointed with the product, but I'm keeping my fingers
crossed that through some fine tuning, it can meet up to my
expectations.

Radio does not sync properly on SqueezeNetwork because each player

Trying the connection through ethernet cable isn't a practical

[slim] World Cafe Podcast

2008-10-25 Thread eCo

I've been all over the boards and can't figure out how to do this.

I'd like to add a World Cafe podcast stream to my SB3. Am using the
latest SqueezeCenter server.

I've found a couple of different URLs for the podcast, but SC doesn't
recognize them as streams.

I haven't set up a podcast before. Is the support native? I don't use
iTunes, but do I need to enable the iTunes plugin for podcast support?

Any help would be much appreciated.

What version of SqueezeCenter are you running? You may also need to
get the latest Base, UI, and Strings by mherger from
SqueezeCenter 7.3. Since that isn't released yet, get them from
nightly builds at
http://svn.slimdevices.com/7.3/trunk/server/HTML/EN/html/SqueezeJS/

these files contain updates and other improvements by mherger that are
used in the nowplaying.

Might want to make backup copies of the existing JavaScript files, just
in case. Then, make sure javascript is enabled in your browser and save
nowplaying.txt as an html in your SqueezeCenter/EN/html/SqueezeJS
folder. Point your browser to
http://yourserver:9000/html/SqueezeJS/nowplaying.html; replacing
nowplaying.html with the filename you've given it. It should work OK.

[slim] lost player!

2008-10-25 Thread jbloewheedle

Hi:
I am using a squeezebox with squeezecenter and everything was great
until I signed up for squeezenetwork. Now squeezecenter (on the
computer)gives an error message that player not found. i got an
email when i signed up for squeezenetwork that my player had been
registered to another account. When i go into settingsplayer is says
player not found, but settingsstatus shows the player with an ip
address.
On top of it all, the squeezebox works fine for both squeezecenter and
squeezenetwork as long as you are doing it from the remote, just
nothing on the computer.
It looks like account issues, can anyone help?

 Hi Peter

 Yes - wirelessly.

Trying the connection through ethernet cable isn't a practical
diagnostic or solution for me given the location of all the associated
 equipment.

W.R.T. wireless. Many things contrive to interfere with wireless
reception. I found that positioning my wireless router near the centre
of my home improved my situation immensely. Recently, many people here
have had problems with certain brands of micro wave ovens (Panasonic, if
I remember correctly). I believe centring your wireless in your home
also enhances security as propagation to your neighbours will be more
attenuated as it travels through your house. Remember, placing your
wireless in your basement means it has to pass through 2 floors to make
it the the 2nd floor. And passing through a wall diagonally is more
like passing through several walls at right angles.

The above are just some reasons that many here will ask if you could
possibly switch to a cable - if just for testing.

Some other things to think about:
- Did you turn on some type of wireless encryption to keep out unwanted
guests soaking up your bandwidth? Many people using Windows machines
don't even realize when they are attached to the neighbours network
rather then their own.
- Are you trying to pass a high volume format like FLAC which requires
more bandwidth then something like MP3?
- Is anyone near you running on the same wireless channel as you are?
- Do you experience drop-outs when using certain appliances? A light
dimmer in our house can knock out the internet when set to the half way
point.

Keep this in mind - it might help - digital communication doesn't fade
out like Amplitude Modulated radio. It's either going to work or not.
Something like Frequency Modulated radio. If you have a strong signal
you will stay above that not-working threshold. If you have a weak
signal you will dip below that not-working threshold ... sometimes
just by walking between your router and your SB.

...I'm sure there are more things to check, anyone care to add some?

I solved this problem myself by digging around in the SC settings. I

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Duet - Wake on LAN problems

2008-10-25 Thread clarkeinho

Hi All,

Thanks for those who took the time to reply to this thread. I now have
things working - it was my linksys router setup rather than squeezebox
- so I thought I would just set out what I did to get things up and
running.

Linksys makes things fiddly because with their router software you
can't set up port forwarding to a x.x.x.255 address. This is the
broadcast address for the whole network and means that anything sent
to that port gets fowarded to the whole network - including the
computer you need to wake up. This is important because a computer in
sleep mode doesn't actually have an IP address so you can't just foward
packets to the specific computer you want.

The way around this is to set up a DHCP reservation for the computer
you want to be allocated a specific address (say 192.168.1.111). You
can then forward packets on port 9 (which is the port squeezebox uses)
to that address. If you need instaructions to get the MAC address then
please see below. Please also note that although all the documentation
says you only need to do this for UDP packets, it doesn't work for me
unless I also forward the TCP packets. Please also note that your
computer does need to be using DHCP: allocating a static IP just
doesn't seem to work, at least for me, although I'm not clear as to why
it makes a difference.

You can test that things are working using two free programs:
Wake-on-Lan (www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-gui.aspx) and
Wireshark (download from sourceforge.com). Wireshark is more techy but
you probably don't need it unless things are really not working.
Basically what it does is captures all network traffic through a
particular interface so that you can see exactly what is being sent
(ie: is the magic packet being sent from the squeezebox to wake up your
PC). Wake-on-Lan GUI is a little tool which allows you to send the magic
packet so you don't have to involve the squeezebox at this stage: always
a good idea to isolate as many variables as possible! Using WOL-GUI you
need to put in the MAC address of the computer you want to wake up
(open a command window and type ipconfig/all on the PC - the MAC
address is, confusingly, shown as the physical address), the IP
address you have set as the DHCP reservation, and the port number. You
can leave the subnet mask alone, and it should work over the internet
or the local subnet although I have to confess I haven't ever needed to
do it over the internet.

If your PC wakes successfully using WOL-GUI, then it should also wake
by you pressing the button on the front of your squeezebox receiver, at
least so long as it is blue to begin with!

So, quick checklist is:
- check your BIOS options on your PC are set to allow WOL
- check the advanced properties on your network card are all set to
allow WOL as well.
- update Squeezebox software to latest version (minimum 7.2.1)
- set your PC to use DHCP
- if your router allows you to forward ports to broadcast addresses
(x.x.x.255) then forward port 9 (TCP UDP) to your LAN broadcast
address (probably 192.168.1.255 or 10.1.1.255). If you are using a
linksys router then create a DHCP reservation for your PC, and forward
port 9 packets to that address.
- test with WOL-GUI
- if it's successful then it should also work from your squeezebox
receiver; if not then you can use Wireshark to analyse the network
traffic and hopefully find out what's going wrong...

Sorry if this is too longwinded but it's taken me ages to track down
and collate the various bits of info I needed from all over the net, so
I figured someone might find it useful.

All the best,

Dan

[slim] boxes and lines...changing network

I have changed my wireless network, so the squeezebox didn't work. In
the process of trying to get the new network to work, trying to enter
the key I hit some different buttons on the remote and now all I can
see on the screen of the squeezebox is boxes and lines.
It doesn't help to unplug and replug.
It shows Logitech and right after comes the boxes and lines and they go
on and on.
It doesn't help me to hit any button on the remote, not even the shut
down button.
Is my squeezebox kaput?

I didn't know that I had to do that - I assumed it would retry by default (or

I tried -r, but it asked for a value, so I then tried --retry 5 and it then
said Error no such host: 5. It seems that --retry doesn't look for a param,
but -r requires a param.

-r 5 works.

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2.1

2008-10-25 Thread EnochLight

I didn't realize there was an update to SC (and the firmwares) until a
day ago when switching between SC and SN forced my Boom to flash it
firmware. Figured I'd update when I got the chance, but after Rhapsody
kept hanging on me and claiming it couldn't authenticate I decided to
dive in.

Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit, Quad Core Q9650, 4 Gigs of RAM.

For no particular reason, this is how I update SC every time:

1. Switch all of my players to SN to get them off my local server (I
have a Duet, a Boom, and a Classic)
2. Go to my computer, right-click on SC in my task bar and select
Stop SqueezeCenter.
3. Once it stops, I go to add/remove programs and uninstall it,
however; I always keep my preferences.
4. Then I install 7.2.1 (or whatever version I am updating to)
5. Once it launches, I allow it time to rescan my library completely.
6. Then I go to each player and switch back to my local server,
updating their firmware one by one. I did my Duet first this time, but
there is no particular order that I stick to.

Everything works fine - all three players seem to function fine. *Oh
and, Dear Slim: thanks for fixing the bug I reported over the summer!
Wahoo! I can now listen to 48Khz iTunes Plus files and have them
transcode correctly!*

Cheers,

Assuming you're running wireless - can you try running the Server and

The lag could be a network congestion issue (and this doesn't mean
you've or Squeezecenter has changed anything - it could be as simple as

Are you trying to play the songs directly from the Music Folder view or

There is an open bug about files with special characters not playing

Do the files show up in Squeezecenter Library, but just don't play when

Re: [slim] Dissapointed - 7.2.1

It sounds like it could be something in your transcoding table.

What format is your library in and what is being sent to your
squeezebox?

7.2.1 is running fine for as was 7.2.0

When ever I install I completely wipe the old install and install
fresh.

[slim] How to know music format of music tracks in squeezecenter and duet?

2008-10-25 Thread pcMusicNewbie

Within squeezecenter, is there a way to display the encoding format of
tracks listed in a playlist or in the left hand panel when
artist-album-tracks are being displayed? When viewing the Now
Playing screen on the duet, is there a way

to navigate to determine this information (or any other detailed info
pertaining to the track)?

This seems to be a serious deficiency in the software.

Same here - with the new 7.2.1 all of a sudden my Receiver has gone
dark. When trying to reconnect it with the Controller, the controller
will off me 2 players, one with a cryptic name (which I assume is the

the old name of the player. Then the receiver will go green, then blue,

This is irritating. 30 minutes into it and I will have to go for a

Red-yellow-green-blue (just as I tell the Controller which server to

Note that the only player ID that will make the receiver look like it

Re: [slim] Artwork Display

2008-10-25 Thread booguss

Oh, thanks for your reply, starfleet! However I solved it.. I discovered
that there was already a SqueezeJS folder in
C:\Program\SqueezeCenter\server\HTML\EN\html, so I just put the html
file there and now it works really fine. 125% on my laptop and I have a
huge artwork to enjoy. I will set my servant to embed artwork into every
single track in my library, I think :-)

You may also need to get the latest Base, UI, and Strings by
 mherger from SqueezeCenter 7.3.

I use 7.2.1 and since it works, there is no need to get the 7.3 Base,
UI and Strings, or?

What I want to be able to do is change the background color to black,
so I tried to code like this but it wont work... What am I doing wrong?

body
*bgcolor=Black*
div id=cover/div
table id=info
tr
td id=playerChooser/td
td id=title/td
td id=back/tdtd id=next/td
/tr
/table
/body
/html

Anyway, this is a really simple yet effective solution to something I
have been looking for for quite a while..

Cheers!

No, you really don't need the 7.3 Base, UI or Strings but they offer a
additional functions that you can add to your html code. See the
earlier threads in this forum by mherger. My html code uses some of
them.

For the background color, that is in the style section of the html

style type=text/css
html, body {
font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
line-height: 1.33;
color: #ff;
background-color: #00;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}

If you change the background-color from #00 (black) to another
number, the body background behind the album art and song info will be
changed to that color.

Let me know how that works for you.

[slim] Playlist Compatibility

2008-10-25 Thread pablolie

Ok. I think that once again a plaiist format compatibility issue between
SS, WMP or iTunes has corrurpted my playlists.

This is the second time this happens to me.

In a perfect world, I would like to create playlists that automatically
are populated with universal system references that any program can
access... that is, my entire library is on a big drive Z:/MyMusic/ and
all my playlists are on Z:/MyMusic/MyPlaylists

and if the files are referenced as
Z:/MyMusic/Artist/Album/Song.mp3

then every programm on the system should be able to find them and play
them.

Fotr some reason that is not the case right now. I have duplicate files
of my plalists, one with a M3u and another one with a M3u~ extension and
I have no idea why.

So I am about to start from scratch when it comes to playlists but
really would appreciate pointers to achieve that universal nature of
playlists. I want to be able to use any programm to deposit playlists
(that is, M3U files) that any programm can play, and for all the future
as long as I keep files on volume Z: (but then again, perhaps a more
abstract network name is better??) will always play.

Any suggestions?

i don't know a plug in that can achieve what you want exactly - but
MusicInfoSCR from M Herger allows a lot of flexibility to customize
display formats. You should have a look, it could provide you with the
option split of info you require. And since he wrote this originally,
he has become a Slim employee, so he knows what he is doing. He has a
current posting in the plug ins section.

You might need to clarify exactly what you're wanting to do. The Duet
controller has to use wireless - it doesn't have an ethernet
connection, so I'm not really clear how you can say that it's connected
via ethernet. Basically, the duet controller is a wireless device and
due to this fact you're going to have to put up with it reconnecting to
your wireless network after it's been inactive for a period. I believe
it's possible to extend the time before it will disconnect due to
inactivity, but this will cause the battery to run down faster, so
you'll have to decide whether you want quicker re-connections or longer
battery life.

Re: [slim] How to force Duet to use ethernet not wireless?

2008-10-25 Thread OhPinchy

Hi jakes.

What I want to do is make the Duet Receiver use ethernet instead of
wireless, I understand the Controller has to be wireless. My Receiver
is showing up on my router DHCP list as connected via wireless - I want
it to use ethernet only as it's more reliable but having gone through
all the options I can't figure out how to do this.

I leave my Controller in the charging dock pretty much all the time
(and as an aside I think it's a real shame it doesn't have a low power
standby mode it can quickly resume from) so I don't really need long
battery life - how do I go about increasing the wireless timeout time
of the Controller?

[slim] Squeezecenter Crash Insane Number of timers

2008-10-25 Thread robermax

This was the first SC crash I have had. No new plug ins installed .
The insane number of timers thing got my attention but I don't know
what it means. I don't run the weather/date/time plug in but there is
a date and time plug in. Any suggestions are welcome. I will try to
attach log.
Thank you

I uninstall, wipe anything left in Program Files, wipe cache, full
rescan and it still maintains all settings which are kept elsewhere. I
don't use any non stock plugins though.

Re: [slim] Controller doesn't reconnect to network after sleep - Please post your issues

2008-10-25 Thread OhPinchy

I've been having intermittent problems with my Duet controller
disconnecting, hanging etc. Should I try the 7.2 update posted here or
the 7.3 beta (i.e. does the beta also include that fix)? How do I go
about updating to the beta?

You can back up your settings. The settings folder is indicated on the

The .M3u~ files are backups that are made by the system when you save a
new version. It is safe to delete them if you find them distracting
when you look at a file listing.
My only thought regarding your set up is to look at putting the
playlist files themselves on a different drive from the music files
which might force the pointers to include the full path. This is what
I do and can make playlists that are universal. I am wondering if
having the playlists on the same drive allows the path statements to
get shortened as specifying the drive name will not be necessary.

Re: [slim] Upgrade ??

2008-10-25 Thread raaurora

based on similar threads from earlier releases

try temporarily disabling your anti-virus and re-run the update. that
has fixed this problem in many cases.

when finished, re-enable the av and fw.

good luck.

Thanks for the reply!
The Music Info SCR is available as a plugin for my NAS, so I've now
installed it.
I haven't yet fiddled with the settings (I have end of year Uni
assignments to do, so am limiting my distractions), but it looks like
it will solve my problem.
Thanks heaps for the info.

[slim] Linksys Security

2008-10-25 Thread reese

Any help is greatly appreciatedEverything with the Duet works fine
when security is shut down on the Linksys. When I apply any sort of
security to my network the system hangs. I was using WPA2 with TKIP or
WES and then I read that the Duet works better with WPA with TKIP. Made
the change and still doesn't work. What's the proper order for setting
up? Establish connection with Duet and then change security in Linksys
or change security in Linksys and adjust in Duet? Actually, neither has
worked so any insight is greatly appreciated.

[slim] Linksys Security

2008-10-25 Thread reese

Anyone have any suggestions on best way to ensure wireless security
while still allowing the Duet to access the network? I've toned down
to WPA with TKIP rather than my wpa2 with TKIP or WES and that didn't
work. Duet only works with security mode disabled. While not a big
deal would like to have at least wpa.
Thanks

Re: [slim] Announcement Squeezecenter 7.2.1

2008-10-25 Thread JadeMonkee

I miss the My Stations functionality, too.
My ISP has a large list of internet radio stations that don't count
toward my download quota. I used to keep this list in my My Stations
section.
I don't want all of the download-quota-free stations stored in the
standard favourites list, as there are just too many, but I do want to
be able to browse through such a list to find a station suitable to my
mood.
That is, I don't want to have to have a big list of radio stations
intermingled with my local music. I want to keep radio with radio, and
my music with my music.
My Stations worked perfectly for me, and I don't think it should have
been removed until Slim Devices (or Logitech or whoever) came up with
an equally functional version.
Just my $0.02

[slim] Mysqld.exe stopped

2008-10-25 Thread Zevs

Hi!

Seems to me that my problem with getting SC 7.3 to start on my computer
has something to do with mysqld.exe . Everytime I try to start up SC or
reboot I get the Windows message: mysqld.exe stopped working and was
closed What is the reason for this ? I'm under Vista 32 bit, have AVG
as firewall and antivirus, but have stopped both these parts and
reinstalled 7.3 with just the same result, so AVG is not the problem.
What is stopping mysqld from working ?
