I don't *think* that Orange Squeeze was keeping SqueezePlayer awake
here. I audited the code and ran some tests and SqueezePlayer keepalives
are sent when OrangeSqueeze is connected to the server. When the screen
goes off, this connection is severed and the keepalives stop.

Um. If MySB gets killed off most services won't work anymore anyway, I'm
sure you will have to make more changes then. I don't know about your

Hi db122 -

Just to give you a heads-up, I submitted a log captured when trying to
play an album from Rhapsody. Orange Squeeze will let me navigate my
library and hit play. On the screen it appears like it is starting to
play, but nothing happens on the squeezebox. No errors are reported by
Orange Squeeze.

Thanks in advance for looking into this. Once this works, I'll never
have a reason to fire up squeezecommander :-).

Let me know if you need anything else.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-12-02 Thread pippin

Battery drain got much better with the current preview but it's still
nowhere near where it was before (I'm now at 2 days with a battery load,
still much worse than my iPad while it was batter before given that I
don't use the Nexus a lot).
This time, the problem seems to be SqueezePlayer, which I set to get
automatically started when I start OrangeSqueeze. I set it to "power
off", would it be possible to shut it down in that state after a few
minutes until I re-open OrangeSqueeze?

Android is this mixed bag regarding background execution: on the one
hand there are so many more things you can do with it compared to iOS
but then you also clearly see why Apple doesn't want it.

that should be ".../cover_128x128_p". You can leave out the ".jpg", as
you says, it will be ignored anyway.

But the album artwork is OK, radio and especially "App" icons really
don't look good, though.

You are aware that you can use MySqueezebox.com for remote scaling? They
cache the result so as long as you are consistent with the size this
will get you very, very good performance. With iPeng and all it's users
my impression is that at least as long as I stick to the main
services/apps I almost always get a cached result, or the server is
really fast.
That's also what SqueezePlay does.

Mail me if you want to know the format. coolio att penguinlovesmusic

You are my hero!!! Installed tasker this morning.. what a great app!!!
After fiddling about with it and reading help section on LMS web
interface.. I'm able to turn on music (press play remotely) at certain
time! It's only simple 'play' at the moment which send command to
current player but it's a start. I got to spend some time to choose
players and sync them plus choose favorite station before sending play
command, but I can see it is certainly possible. Brilliant.. I'm
generally impressed with tasker and possibilities it gives! Already have
few ideas for mini apps for other purposes.. awesome.. ohh btw you
wouldn't know if variables used in tasker are also compliled to .apk, or
are those only variables working within tasker? (when tasker is
running)
had a case where compiled task/scene which use variables didn't not work
after exporting to .apk.
It's quite complex app and can see I will get hooked on it for a while.
thank you so much for such great lead - best spend £4 :) Cheers!

For thumbnails, we use URL's like this whenever possible:

http://192.168.0.2:9000/music/6df5a901/cover_128xX_p.jpg

In my experience, this doesn't actually return .jpg, but either .jpg,
.png, whatever, depending on what format you've got on the server. Once
saved locally we render them unscaled.

Is it album artwork, radio artwork, or what? For some artwork (like
remote thumbnails from MOG), we load the thumbnails from the remote
server (a non-Logitech server) and scale locally. Because some of the
images are *huge* coming inbound from the network, we resample first at
~double the desired resolution to avoid overflowing the device heap
(pretty easy to do), then scale the resulting image to our exact
requirements.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-11-30 Thread db122

Just updated the preview build. We're getting very close. Was hoping to
get the final release out before December, since that month doesn't
exist for Android 4.2 users, but that's looking less likely.

enhancements

- Experimental (truly, we have no hardware to test this on) support
for device media buttons like play/pause/next track/etc. Let us know.
- Addition of service API key on the about screen. This random key is
used to protect calls to the public service on your device from
  malicious apps.

defects fixed

- Connection will now be dropped automatically when the screen turns
off. This should dramatically reduce power consumption when devices
  are in standby.
- Widget will now normally update itself properly when coming out of
  extended power-off cycle.
- Global search screen was incomplete. Headers are now properly
displayed, should make for a less confusing display.
- Some fixes to soft keyboard handling in the search screen.
- Various fixes for Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices.

Sorry looks I wasn't very clear.. English is not my native tong..
Yes I'm aware about build in alarm on server which could be configured
by players/apps/web interface..
I'm actually trying to bypass that cos it's not working properly/ the

I'm in unfortunate group of people who gets 'nasty funky bass' backup
alarm instead of selected radio station
I just prefer radio rather then local music as an alarm

Also, like I said I don't really need snooze option/blocking screen of
my radios and I would prefer switch off music myself (listen more then
hour - which is the case with std alarm)

Right, both of those commands could be done on a schedule through a
variety of techniques. The simplest would be to use the Command Line
Interface of the server (see above). There are a lot of resources about
this, google "Squeezebox CLI" for lots of info. To use something like OS
is a bit more complicated than it really would need to be, but if you
are trying to do it all through just an Android device then it certainly
is an option. You'd still need to delve deep into the Squeezebox CLI
syntax, however. Check out the "Tasker" app (or various clones), which
lets you do all sorts of fancy things, scripted on an Android device.
You want to be able to send an "Intent" to an Android service with the
appropriate parameters at the appropriate time.

That's deep waters for me.. well, I don't mind trying smth new but I had
in mind smth within OS again.. Correct me if I'm wrong but the way I see
it is:
- You can send command to synchronize players form OS, right?
- You can send command to play selected music, right?
However both things need to be done manually by physically pressing
buttons (touching screen I mean :) ) All whats needed is sort of
simulation of 2 above plus timer which check time every 60s. Think of it
as macro which would be executed when when timer equals specified
time...

TBH I got no clue about programming Android, I'm just trying to get
analogy from what I could do with application written for Windows. No
idea if this kind of thinking could be applied in real world?

my own lock screen. Inevitably when I come to wake my device the widget
has lost its connection and does not display the state of the
appropriate player. It doesn't appear to get it back until I log back
in.

Added in 1.3.0 preview, and relatively simple.

The drain is due to preserving the network connection so that the widget
remains up to date. There's very little CPU usage associated with it,
but the device cannot go to sleep if we want real-time updates of album
artwork on your widget screen. There's room for improvement on this
though, as when the screen turns off we can accelerate the shutdown
process. Right now that's missing. Thanks for reminding me.

Yes, I expect it does. The service that feeds the widgets preserves the
connection for a configurable amount of time. If you're not using
widgets, we probably should be dropping the connection much sooner

If apps never worked together then you would have a 100% valid point,
but the truth is sometimes I have four apps in the stack and the back
button takes you back to the previous app, seamlessly. This is the power
of a very flexible, but yes, ultimately schizophrenic design.

This is changing in a big way -- the platform has really stabilized a
lot (1 1/2 years with the same core SDK) and the tools and critical mass
are there to start writing beautiful tablet apps.

It comes down to time -- there are bikes to ride, books to read, games
to play. Android apps will scale up to tablet better than an iOS app, so
there is less incentive. I don't spend all day browsing in Orange
Squeeze, I use it about 15 times a day, for about 20 seconds each time.
That said, I want to explore more now that 1.3 is stabilizing.

For the record, I am both user #1 and developer #1 for Orange Squeeze.

The built-in alarm functionality (conveniently hidden from within Orange
Squeeze) should work for you. It's part of my plan to get everyone to
buy each of the Android apps that control Squeezeboxes.

Truthfully, this behavior would be better handled on the server, but
that said, Orange Squeeze exposes a protected service on your phone that
you could use to script behavior like this. It would be a manual process
and you'd have to learn about the CLI interface and use an app like
Tasker to actually handle the automation. I need to put a page together
discussing the possibilities. If you are interested, start a new thread
and we can discuss it there (PM me so I know where it is, I might miss
it).

Which is why it's important that apps adhere to the established
guidelines, like using the back button properly and letting people back
out of apps without complications.

Well, there's the icon in the top-left if you just want to back out to
the top. Or the navbar. Some apps activate the "up-one-level" affordance
in the home icon as well (OS doesn't, by design, because we have other
ways to go up a level using the navbar).

Fair enough, but I really feel like it's an anachronism that gets in the
way for most apps. Games and other exceptions, are, well, the exception.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-11-30 Thread ModelCitizen

As an iPhone 3gs and Nexus 7 user I find myself between two OSs, but
increasingly I get frustrated with the limitation of iOs, mostly to do
with the lack of back button (ie. difficulty of navigation/continuity
between apps). I do wish however that the implementation of back-button
functionality was consistent across Android apps. Orange Squeeze
implementation works well for me, whereas Tapatalk is horrible. I must
spend some time trying to understand how it works but I often find
myself in a cul-de-sac (or dead end).

Just from other topic...

As my radio alarm driving me sometimes crazy (with it's backup alarm) I
was wondering if it would be possible to use Orange Squeeze to turn on
players on time basis. Since app sits in background all the time anyway
I can imagine it's smth which could be done...

I'm not bother about snooze option - in fact I dont need it.. All I'm
after is to have my Radio's start playing my favorite internet radio.
I got other alarm clocks (phone for example) which are set up to go off
later anyway...

I just would like to spend 10-15min in bed gently waking up with music -
then my 'wake up from bed' alarm goes.. and I can continue listen music
while getting ready for a day...

Could it be also possible to let say sync players on time bassis?.. so
if my bedroom and kitchen radios are unsync in the evening, both could
be automatically synced in a morning before Orange Squeeze turn them
on..

Apologies if this was mentioned before, I'm quite new here and still
catching up with older posts.. Cheers

Tapatalk has different numbers of hierarchies depending how many
accounts you have configured and whether you start it from a widget or
the icon. While looking all the same, sometimes "back" gets you to the
account selection screen, sometimes you leave the App. That's what keeps
confusing me. And that it's different than Tapatalk on iOS

Um. Now _that_'s one thing I don't understand. Usually, on iOS it's a
common UI scheme that the back button is on the top left of the screen
or the window in which your content is. It's in Apple's UI guidelines
and standard navigation controller. Your App is pretty much the only one
I know that does _not_ do it that way so you are likely confusing
yourself here :D

Could you share a link to the back button discussion?

>From a usability standpoint I'd say what happens when you press a button
must be predictable for the user without studying Android user guides.

With simple Apps it is no problem to realize if you are at the root of
the activity stack. I never have a problem with Tapatalk for instance as
it just has three levels of navigation and not individual hierarchies.

Other Apps are not that easy. I include OrangeSqueeze here. There is
also a second use case: when you are deep in the menus one presses the
back button multiple times very fast to get to the top (because for new
users that's the more common way than to know that one can tap on the
top left button) so one can still close the App erroneous.
And even if technically the App is not closed, in the user perception it
is.

So personally I'd vote for a 'do you really want to quit button' indeed.

By the way: even Google does it in its navigation App because it's not
obvious if the back button leaves the App or gets you back to search
there, so you always have an excuse if needed :-)

By the way #2: I really miss a dedicated back button on iOS in the
meantime. Sometime leaving the App on error and having to restart is
much better than always searching the screen for a back button. I start
to tap the Home button now on error on iOS so I guess the OS that you
have installed on your main smartphone heavily influences what pattern
one gets used to most.

Switching between iOS and Android often definitely is a pain due to the
subtle differences everywhere (and if it's just different keyboard
layouts and treatment of special keys)

Actually I more or less dind't find any function that preserves the
backstack, something I find pretty annoying, also with SqueezePlay and
some other Apps, but even with SqueezePlay it's not the case if I want
to, say, change the current playlist or look something up on the current
track.

Yes, as I did already state, it's not an OrangeSqueeze specific issue at
all. It seems to be another one of these cases where Android just
decided to suck out of principle :) Yes, you notice, that OS is just not
for me :) But if that's what Android users expect then it's of course
fine to have it that way.
Just for the life of me I will not understand why such a capable OS and
such capable hardware has to have such a horrid overall experience, I'm

... someone is using the most current Orange Squeeze preview (from last
night), has a Samsung GT-I9000 (International Galaxy S, I believe)
running Android 4.1.2.

You've had a bunch of crash submissions when the app launches, I
believe. The error is actually an I/O error, indicating you might have
some fault flash memory or corruption on your OS partition.

So, if you are by chance this user, you might contact me and we could
try to solve the problem by wiping the app data or reinstalling the app,
but you may have a bigger problem. I just don't want you to attribute
the error exclusively to Orange Squeeze, although I suspect that you
might be having problems with a bunch of apps.

pippin wrote:

Pippin, thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely take it to heart. I did
take a stab at a couple of the polish-related issues you raised, so
check out the next preview (or final release, as it may be).

As to your issues with the Android back button -- well, you're not
alone, but in my opinion, the alternative (the lack of a back button) is
far worse. Granted, you can get into some situations where the backstack
gets out of control (facebook app is crazy sometimes), but I think
Orange Squeeze walks a line once you get used to it. In general the icon
in the upper right takes you to the browse screen no matter where you
are, and resets the backstack at the same time. Most other things
preserve the backstack.

It's interesting that the issue of confirming with a user whether or not
to "quit" the app is raised. First, on Android there is no "quitting"
the app. Relaunching it brings you right back where you left off most of
the time automatically, but this issue just came up on the Android
developers group just in the last couple days, and a rookie developer
was shunned out of the room for asking how to implement a confirmation
like that. It's simply considered bad form on Android. There is a lot of
discussion about this on why and how and whatever, plenty of data to
find if you're interested. Without question, however, Orange Squeeze is
intended to be an Android app for Android users.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-11-29 Thread pippin

OK, finally need to give a bit of feedback on OrangeSqueeze as well
since I've been using the preview a bit, too, recently.

I actually really like it, I have to admit that I start to prefer it to
SqueezeCommander (SqueezeCommander keeps confusing me in places where it
looks like iPeng used to but behaves differently) but there are a few
things that keep confusing me:

- Did I miss a shortcut to get to that screen where you have all the
players and their volume? I use that a lot in iPeng and it's similar
in OrangeSqueeze, something I really like but when I use that it's
_always_ because I just want to quickly change some volume or sync
grouping while I'm browsing the library and it's a nuisance that I
then have to start off again. Actually I catch myself grabbing my
iPhone just to adjust volume/sync because I don't want to lose the
menu I'm in. Did I miss something? It would be really good to be able
to change a player state without having to re-start from the root
  level of the menu tree.
- There is one thing I absolutely hate and that's the synchronization.
I _always_ get the direction wrong and then delete the playlist I want
to sync to another player. That should get more intuitive or at least
show an indication of what's going to happen.
- I love that globalsearch screen you get from the top right and I
love the option to automatically expand a service but when I do that
with one or two submenu levels (e.g. with Spotify) it gets completely
confusing and it's almost impossible to figure out what is what on
this screen. It would be good if there could be more indentation or
different colors or something else that shows me on which level in the
menu hierarchy some item is supposed to be. Actually I have the same
issue with the other "Search" menu: ut's very hard to figure out where
one category ends and the next one starts, the triangle at the right
hand side is about the only indication.
- The hardware buttons don't work on 4.2 but then 4.2 is a big mess
anyway, maybe 4.2.1 will fix that for you.
- It would be good if the keyboard would automatically close when you
move from the search screen to another screen where there is no entry
  field.

And then there is another issue that you might have an answer to, maybe
I'm just missing something but I have this problem actually with almost
_all_ Android Apps (I'm using a Nexus 7): The "back" button either moves
up one level in a menu hierarchy or leaves the App but I haven't figured
out a way (other than remembering it) to figure out whether I'm on the
top level of a menu or in some submenu so I keep leaving Apps all the
time when I actually don't want to. Tapatalk and Twitter are worst here
but it's frequently happening to me in OrangeSqueeze, too.
Coming from iOs this behavior is something I'm not used to and actually
I find it a bit useless since after all there _is_ another button for
that, the center one, could it be suppressed?

Just had quick try before setting off to work and it behaves same way
over here.

I was able to pull it from LMS Lite (Touch USB not sure version) to LMS
7.7.2 (on Synology NAS) but failed to go other way round.

Won't work for one of the two use cases for different servers I can
think up: it will only work if both servers are of the same version,
otherwise, the other server's players won't be shown.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

So, I have to edit my own reply. I was a bit mistaken, and some things
do work better in Orange Squeeze Preview than I had remembered. Heck, if
I can't keep it straight :-)

If you are on a server, you can pull "visible" players (servers on the
same subnet communicate this) to your current server. The players show
up at the bottom as "Players on other servers". You can only "push" a
player to mysqueezebox.com, however.

So, in short, to move a player to another server, connect to that server
and pull it over. Two-step process, but reasonable I think?

Basically I use:
1. LMS on my NAS as my main MUSIC library/collection of FLAC's and
MP3's
2. LSM Lite (I think its called) on USB plugged to one of my touches as
secondary library
Mainly used for educational music materials like - play-along's/lessons
for bass/drums/piano/etc and other audio which is not really suitable
for main music library and generally only used in music room. However I
also use music room touch with main library for purely listening
purposes eg. if she wants to listen smth else on main setup. :)
I was able to jump servers using SqueezeCommander, but I can see now its
rather obscure option..

I guess priority-wise it goes right down to bottom of your list ( if not
straight to bin ;) )

I believe my setup might be interesting for people who want separate
libraries: husband/wife/kids etc, in which case this feature would be
required..
32GB USB stick and LSM Lite seems to be working quite well in my
setup... I know its advisable to only connect up to 3 players to LSM
Lite, but in my case that's not a problem..

hmm. Perhaps you know better ways of creating multi library/server
system?

Anyway it's not massive problem to use SqueezeCommander when required
and Orange Squeeze for everything else. Just it would be nice to have
everything covered in one app.
Once again thanks for your work, great stuff! Cheers!

You probably aren't missing anything obvious. Some of this was added in
the 1.3.0 preview, which you can install for free from Google Play.
Well, at least as long as you are moving between
squeezenetwork/mysqueezebox.com and your local server. If you are moving
between different local servers (why?) then the app doesn't do that.
Explain why you're doing this on a regular basis, and I might consider
spending time on implementing that (priorities, right?) but I think most
people alternate between SN and their local server exclusively.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and just installed Orange Squeeze. Thanks for great app! It
seems to be faster to use and more intuitive then squeeze commander
which I've been using for a while.
However there is one important feature I can't find in Orange:
How do I switch/change player to different server/ library?

I can change servers but can't find how to move client/player from one
server to another.. I'm sure i'm missing smth obvious somewhere O_o...

Thank you!

It would seem you might have problems with a lot of more modern Android
apps, because that three-dot thing and the resulting menu is a standard
Android construct, not a fabrication in Orange Squeeze.

Keep your eye on the preview builds once 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 are out I
hope to experiment with some more radical changes then (not that your

It's that action bar thing - the small I at the top right which appears
on some menus - it's so fiddly to use. I often get Search instead of
switch servers! On the main Browse screen there are tabs at the top to
switch players, search, etc. I just thought a Servers tab would be
easier to use than the I menu.

What server dropdown? There is an action bar menu that exposes a "switch
server" screen, and there is an option to move players between servers
too, also from a popup on the players screen. I'm not sure I understand
what you're asking.

But you're right that it's too late for 1.3.0 anyway. This release
won't have any UI changes, it's strictly refinements to the established
UI. The target release date was November (of 2012), and I intend to hold
to that.

You probably are one of the very few running the app on a black and
white device. Surely there is a way to fix it, but it may be a bit of
guessing how to work around the issue because I have no way to test how
the colors and device default themes interact. I suspect the root

color used in the action menu is the same (or nearly the same -- with a
black and white device there aren't too many options) as the default
background color.

I wil think about how to best solve this.

Hi;
when I used Orange Squeeze, I had the problem that in the pop-up
windows, no text was visible.
(When I tapped on the area of the non-visible Text, the related funktion
was activated. So it is really only the text that is missing...)

What do I mean by pop-up w?
For example in the Player menue: When I tab on the little triangle on
the right side for one of the players, a context menue pops up (the pop
up window).
That window has a head line listing the player ('On: xyz-Playername')
and underneath there are lines, subdividing tasks - but no text is
visible for me. But when I tab the 1st, the synchronize options appear
(with all text visible).
On the last line, a faint small 'zzz' is visible - no further text,
leading to the snooze option

Am I really the only one having this issue??
Note: I am running OZ on an e-ink (b&w) device - a rooted Barnes&Noble
Nook Touch running Android 2.1.

Is there a way to fix this?

Sorry, Orange Squeeze itself doesn't expose all of the player audio
settings that you might want to set. For now, you can use the web
interface or official app -- not ideal, admittedly.

2012-11-24 Thread sbp

Hi I have the same problem as Castalla. The newest version worked fine a
few times (I really don't remember if it only worked one time).
But now it wont connect to the server, it seems to be connected, there
is no "wheel turning" and if I look at the switch server setting it says
it is connected.

Then I killed the new version and started the old version 1.2.9, and
this version is working fine, it connects without problems.

(And all these problems have nothing to do with my previously reported
wifi problems, as the wifi was working fine in the present experiment).

I will send you a logcat file recorded during the above mentioned
experiment. So in the first part of the logcat file, I have started
Orange 1.3.0 (newest version) and tried to connect to my server (called
Voyage) - as it did not connect, I killed orange 1.3.0, and started
1.2.9 wich connected fine to my server "Voyage".

Hope you can see something in the logcat file.

It's working again at the moment. I'll monitor it over the weekend, and
if it fails again then I'll try catlog.

Where do I send the log?

If you are using Android 4.1 or higher, can you enable verbose logging
in advanced preferences and then use the available button to send logs
to us?

If you are using Android 4.0 or earlier, enable verbose logging and use
an app like CatLog to do the same thing.

Yes, you can expect several improvements in this regard. Wanted to get
the preview out before the long weekend so the UI to select the target
folder just didn't make it in.

Big thanks for this! It was the last reason I kept Squeeze Commander

Would it be possible to allow the user to configure the download root
path? I prefer to save music to my actual SD card, which is actually
/mnt/sdcard-ext on my phone (/mnt/sdcard being a chunk of internal

Maybe should. Seems like most products have a single thread though. Also
seems like almost all of the discussion is about the preview release now
-- I think it's safe to say most of the people on this board are at
least casually interested in the development releases.

First time I tried the new preview it locked up on My Nexus 7, so I
power cycled the Nexus 7 (hadn't been powered down for a few days) and
Orange Preview worked fine.

This may be related. My son, an Orange Squeeze user, has a new Samsung
phone and says there are problems with their WiFi sleep when it has been
idle for a while ... it won't wake up again. He fixed his using

Yep, sorry I hadn't had time to look at this for this preview release.
I'll take a look at everything relating to this next week.

I will say that if the wifi icon is not 100% enabled (i.e. not in the
top bar) then there may be a bug in the phone operating system rather
than Orange Squeeze. It would be interesting to see the logs when this
occurs, so with new new preview release, enable verbose logging and then
when you run into the problem, use an app like CatLog to send the
results to me.

Incidentally, when this happens, if you open up a web browser *without
restarting the Wifi*, are you able to browse properly?

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-11-21 Thread sbp

Hi just tried the new version, still the same problem, that Orange does
not restart wifi, if the smartphone was been idle for some time.

It is a Samsung galaxy I9100 with Android 4.0.4. what happens is that
the wifi symbol disapears from top ribbon on the Android - you know the
place where you can se the battery status, 3g status etc. However, when
I pull down the screen from the top, the wifi icon is still green.

If I press the icon (top stop the wifi) and press again to enable it -
the wifi icon re-appear next to the battery indicator and Orange can
find the wifi.

So it seems like Samsung put the wifi into sleep, when left unused for a
long time, and Orange is not able to re-enable the wifi.

Hope this is understandable.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2012-11-20 Thread db122

Released a new preview build, lots of stuff:

- Ability to download tracks from many browse hierarchies to your
device (Android 2.3/Gingerbread devices and higher). Supports
downloading by folder, artist, album, year (including most custom
  browse variations).
- Visual styling updates
- Android 4.2/Jellybean and higher devices can now add a widget to
  the lock screen.
- Everyone gets a new larger widget, in addition to the existing
  small one
- Android 4.1/Jellybean and higher devices can now submit log data
  directly from "Advanced Preferences".

Defects fixed:

- Missing ability to pin items to home (top-level) menu.
- Now Playing screen artist is now the "track artist", which brings
it in sync with the web interface and other Jive-based clients (Trac
  issue #69).
- last.fm did not properly show thumbs up/thumbs down
- Previous track button was not going to beginning of track on
  initial press
- When connecting to a server that has just been woken up, send
subsequent pings sooner to speed up connection process.
- Preference to disable automatic crash reporting was not working.
- When a local SqueezePlayer was running, some or all other players
would be hidden in the player list.
- Icons missing for Random Play context menu items
- Widgets did not correctly display thumbs up/down when appropriate.
- Lots of other widget bug fixes and cleanups

I have the same (or very similar) issue with 1.2.9. I can get it to
start working again by either switching WiFi off and on manually or by
restarting Orange Squeeze. Same hardware and version of Android as
