Re: [Elecraft] NaP3 and the KX3
Lyle I suspect that the spike at zero has to do with the fact that the radio is direct sampling and the IF is zero. Elecraft has built in an at least a partial fix, the 8 KHz. receiver offest. That has helped at my place. The second that added a little bit is a galvanic isolator I picked up at Radio Shack for about $10. It didn't totally remove the "spike", but it did knock it down a bit. 73, Barry K3NDM - Original Message - From: "Lyle Johnson" To: "k7nhb" Cc: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Monday, April 1, 2013 8:50:35 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] NaP3 and the KX3 Paul, Usually the "big center spike" is due to a so-called ground loop between the computer_plus_soundcard and the KX3_plus_power source. Re: [Elecraft] NaP3 and the KX3
Gil, I don't understand what problems you are having. I've been running NaP3 almost as long as I've owned my KX3. The only problem I've run into is ASIO with VAC. Seems that VAC will not accept 24 bits. Other than that, I've been pleased. I've even shown the operation to a few other hams. Having said that, there are a few idiosyncrasies. First, there is a latency issue just like the Flexradio users have raised. The way around that is to use the NaP3 only as a panadapter during timing sensitive periods; any other periods, just operate like a Flex. Second, I occasionally need to do a reset of the IF frequency offsets, not a big issue. And lastly, unless you set the 8KHz offset, you will get a spike at 0. You will need to do an 8 KHz. by band, but it is totally transparent when operating without NaP3, meaning set it and forget it. Just one caution: make sure you tell NaP3 you have an 8 KHz IF. Do try again. It's really a great operation when it's running. I rarely run without it these days. 73, Barry K3NDM - Original Message - From: "Richard Gillingham" To: "k7nhb" , elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Monday, April 1, 2013 7:52:04 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] NaP3 and the KX3 I've posted before about this issue. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 - Pandapter woes
I'm trying to use HDSDR - but may switch to NaP3. I have the same display problem you describe. OmniRig seems to control the rig okay and clicking on a frequency in the HDSDR display change rig. But i have a big spike and two lessor traces on each side - no matter what band I am on. I am plugging the Elecraft RX I/Q (from Elecraft) cable into a Griffin audio device that takes mic and audio in and has USB out. The Griffin has a slide with Mic and Line positions and I understand that Line gives stereo out. You were talking about NaP3 but as I have the same kind of display on HDSDR I'm guessing it is the same problem and hopefully will have the same solution. My cable are from Elecraft. I could use an outboard SignaLink or external Sound blaster card. But the more (bulky) things I have to "add-in" the less portable my portable setup is becoming. The Griffin device is the size of a dollar - back when there were dollar coins - so it would be great if it could be used. 73, Paul K7NHB -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/KX3-Pandapter-woes-tp7561244p7572085.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] KX3 BETA rev. 1.41: Internal speaker and FM improvements; switch macros; misc.
KX3 beta firmware rev 1.41 (with DSP rev 1.13) is now available. This includes recently discussed improvements to internal speaker behavior and FM mode, as well as programmable switch macros (see release notes below). You'll need the KX3 Utility application to download and install firmware. For full instructions, refer to our KX3 software page: http://www.elecraft.com/KX3/KX3_software.htm Wayne N6KR * * * MCU 1.41 / DSP 1.13, 3-26-2013 * AF GAIN SMOOTHER AT LOW END: The AF gain control now has finer granularity at the low end. To accommodate this , the gain range is now 0-60 (was 0-40). * INTERNAL SPEAKER BEHAVIOR IMPROVED: (1) Fixed bug that caused audio output mute/unmute cycling on strong signals. (2) Gain distribution changed to reduce speaker overdrive condition related to CODEC output. (3) Audio EQ optimized for speaker. * FM DEVIATION AND FM MIC GAIN SETTING BEHAVIOR CORRECTED. * NEW LED BRT MENU ENTRY: Allows setting of LED brightness for the backlight-off case only. (During adjustment of this menu parameter, the backlight will automatically be turned off if it was on, then turned back on when the menu is exited.) MCU 1.38 / DSP 1.07, 3-1-2013 * NO SSB RX SIGNAL ATTENUATION WHEN BW < 2.4 KHz: Previously, adjusting the bandwidth below approx. 2.4 kHz might result in up to several dB of received signal loss. 2.4 kHz is the bandwidth at which the receiver switches from conventional SSB demodulation to “Weaver” method to take advantage of filter FL2 on the KXFL3 roofing filter module. * NEW FEATURE--SWITCH MACROS: You can now program the PF1 and PF2 switches to execute sequences of KX3 remote control , or “macros.” These are created, tested, and sent to the KX3 using KX3 Utility. The K3/KX3 Programmer’s Reference has a number of sample macros and further details. Here’s an example of what can be done with a macro. We’ll call this “SPLIT+2” (useful when setting up to call a CW DX station up 2 kHz): A>B, A>B, SPLIT, move VFO B up 2 kHz, RIT/XIT off To create this macro and assign it to PF1 or PF2, complete the steps below: 1. Run KX3 Utility. Click on the Command Tester/KX3 Macros tab. 2. Click on the Edit Macros button. This pops up the macro edit window. 3. In MACRO #1’s Macro Label field, enter the label “SPLIT+2” (without the quotes). 4. In the Macro Commands field, enter this text: SWT25;SWT25;FT1;UPB5;RT0;XT0; (The number 5 in “UPB5” is an index into a table of step sizes. UPB5 moves VFO B up 2 kHz, DNB5 moves it down 2 kHz, etc. There are similar commands for VFO A. For the full list, see the “DN” (down) command in the Programmer’s Reference.) 5. Click on Send Macros 1-8 To KX3. 6. At the KX3, locate the CONFIG:MACRO x menu entry, and tap ‘1’ if the menu entry label is not already “MACRO 1”. 7. Hold PF1 to assign PF1 to MACRO 1. Exit the menu. >From then on, holding PF1 will flash “SPLIT+2” and execute the above sequence. Up to eight macros can be sent to the KX3, but only two of them can be assigned to PF1 or PF2 at a given time. In the MACRO x menu entry, tap ‘1’ – ‘8’ to select a macro, then hold PF1 or PF2 to do the assignment. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] Don's effort
Hans, Your "late in the evening" is still early evening here. If you were to send in your morning, I would still be asleep, and I do not arise early in my morning. I am usually (sort of) awake by 8:30 local time, and spend my "wakeup" period and morning tea in front of the computer looking at the email that has arrived overnight, checking the weather forecast and things of that nature as well as making plans for my day. By the time I get the 3rd cup of tea, it is time for me to shower and get ready to do something more physical. I come back to check email every few hours, and that continues until it is time to settle down to some favorite TV shows. I do check email again after the evening news and then go off to bed. Unless I have some long hours activity that does not allow me to take 'computer breaks', I am available most of the day - but not during my sleeping hours! So now you know - I do sleep, and usually 8 hours each night. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/1/2013 11:55 AM, Hans Elfelt Bonnesen wrote: RE. DON, It's truly fantastic what this man is doing. Re: [Elecraft] No Comp or ALC in SSB
Cliff, All Prosets are not the same. If it is a Proset-K2 or a Proset-iC (with an electret element), turn bias on and try again. If it is a Proset-HC4 or HC5 (dynamic element, bias should be off), the output level is quite low, so you may have to set the mic gain quite high. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/1/2013 12:39 PM, ke0cp wrote: Am I missing something or is there a problem when setting transmit mic level (ALC) and compression in USB and LSB modes on my KX3? [Elecraft] No Information On Display - Blank Display
Hello, I have a problem. When I turn my K3 on I get a bright orange completely blank screen. No nothing. Re: [Elecraft] Firmware
Ronny, Look at the Firmware Release notes to see if there is anything of interest to you and your operating techniques that would be useful for you. You may just want to upgrade anyway just to stay current, it will not break anything. Normally an upgrade goes smoothly unless something external occurs to halt the operation midstream. If you have fears about the remote possibility of a problem during the upgrade, use K3 Utility to save your configuration before the upgrade. That way if you ever have to do an EEINIT, you will be able to restore your settings. Saving your configuration periodically is always a good thing to do. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/1/2013 8:49 AM, Ronny Lembke wrote: Hi Community! I have a K3 with FW 4.51. Re: [Elecraft] Firmware
A user-level summary is in the K3 firmware release notes. If you copy the new firmware using the K3 Utility's "copy files" button, the new release notes file is also copied, and can be viewed from a selection on the K3 Utility Help menu. Copying the file from Elecraft means bringing the firmware files and release notes from Elecraft's file server to a directory on your personal computer. Installation in the K3 is a second step that only starts after all the firmware is in files on your PC. 73 de Dick, K6KR -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Ronny Lembke Sent: Monday, April 01, 2013 5:49 AM To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] Firmware Hi Community! Re: [Elecraft] + sign on K3 display ?
Nothing to worry about Rick, it simply means that CW QRQ is on. It's a menu item and you can easily turn it off by holding the "MENU" key down long enough to get into the CONFIG menu. Once there, turn the VFO B knob until you find CW QRQ and if it says "ON" turn the main VFO knob until it says "OFF". If you leave it on, nothing bad will happen and the firmware is smart enough to shut it off when the QRQ function would interfere with something in the operation. If it's ON, full break-in (QSK) on CW will allow hearing between CW elements up to 99 words per minute (wish I could send/copy that fast - LOL). When CW QRQ is on, the + sign is displayed and when it's off, it isn't. You probably have an older version of the manual, though I'm not sure it's in the latest ones. [Elecraft] KPA500 - no display at power up
Hello Elecrafters, Recently, I notice that the LCD display of my KPA500 does not show up (amber light on) when power up. The display will come back in about 1-2 minutes. During the blank display period, the function of the KPA500 is normal. Any advice from the group before I approach Elecraft support?
