RE: Move Mailboxes......
Are you using the Active directory connector. I have seen the same problem when the adc isn't making the right association between the 5.5 mailbox and an user in the active directory. In this case it is due to users in a trusted domain. -Original Message-From: Garland Mac Neill [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Tuesday, May 28, 2002 7:30 PMTo: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: Move Mailboxes.. Im probably missing something here, but Ill ask anyway. Im in the process of migrating from 5.5 SP4 to E2K SP2. I havent had any problems moving mailboxes so far, until I ran into one user. When I try and move his mailbox I get the option to create mailbox and thats it. When I look in the list for users, his username displays instead of his display name. My question is, how do I resolve this so that I can move his mailbox? I came up empty on technet. Any help is appreciated. Hi Robert, Try stopping the Backup Agent RPC Server service, this is the service installed by the Arcserve Exchange Agent, see if that makes any difference. If this isnt the best way to do it, have you any other suggestions ?? It has been suggested that he can log onto the laptop with his Network username and password, and get logged in, even though the laptop isnt connected to it. Explanation being the laptop willl hold details of recent loggins. If that is the case, how long does the details get held ?? public folder permissions using DL
I'm wondering why public folder permissions isn't working using distribution lists. I would have to add individual users? We are using exchange 2000 and we just migrated from exchange 5.5. Any thoughts? List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

RE: How to setup inbound/outbound mail
The SMTP VS is enough to get you sending / receiving out of the box. It is also relay secure out of the box, so if you've got relay problems, put it back to how it was. :-) The SMTP Connector gives you additional control over the SMTP VS, e.g. scheduling, priority, etc. The settings on an SMTP Connector will override those on the VS. To receive inbound Internet email, you need a valid MX record pointing to your server and a recipient policy configured to supply the relevant users with the correct SMTP address(es). Calendar sharing
This is a repost. Does anyone have a need for calendar sharing/scheduling meetings across two separate exchange orgs? Is anyone using Net Folders? We have two sets of users, those with mailboxes on one exchange organization and another that are on a different exchange organization. They still want to be able to share calendars and schedule meetings. Is it possible to achieve this? Before we never had this issue because we had all the users in one exchange organization. Now, those users do not work for the same company. However, there are projects that still require this calendar booking/scheduling meetings functionality. I know that you need two users in the same exchange org if you want to share calendar info and schedule meetings. Does anyone know a workaround? 1. Set it on the private and public stores to whatever you like (say 30 days). 2. Check the box don't permanently delete until backup 3. Educate your users on how to recover deleted items (Tools / Recover Deleted Items when in the Deleted Items folder). 4. Combat against the shift-delete users by implementing the DumpsterAlwaysOn reg key. Most of this is on TechNet I suspect. I would say that, once set up, user education is the key. replay logs
I'm going to flaunt my ignorance of Exchange disaster recovery here. I've read bits and pieces and understand things in theory, but haven't done any tests yet (time, time, time). Anyway, here's a not-so-hypothetical example. Say a user accidentally SHIFT+DELetes a lot of email in a folder. What's the best/easiest way to get this back? Is there a way to replay all the logs on the server and get the email back? A full online backup occurs every single night, but the important emails were sent after 8AM this morning. So, the logs have everything needed. I was just wondering that if there is a way to replay all the logs and get the emails back, a) how do you do that and b) will it resend every email that people had sent before? And by the way, I do have the disaster recovery white papers and I've read them twice, just haven't done any hands-on stuff yet, so this is my chance I guess. Looking for Advice...
OK, first I have to say that I'm not an exchange expert. I'm not the exchange admin for our company so I am quite the newbie here. Here's the story: Last week our one and only exchange server crashed and we were without email for most of the week. All clients were setup to look at the server for email, no local pst files. So, when the server went down, all inbox, sent items, calendar, contacts, etc were gone. The admin at corporate, in another state, rebuilt the server (I think) but was not able to restore every one's mail back to pre-crash status. We were missing attachments, some email... When my remote users dialed in to get new mail, they synced with a nearly empty server and poof, no more old/saved mail. We were able to restore most of our saved mail but there is a lot gone and we accept that. What I would like to learn is how can I set up our Outlook clients so that if our email server crashes again, we don't lose all of our saved mail and related stuff. Most Outlook clients are Outllok 2000 with some XP sprinkled in for good measure. RE: Looking for Advice...
We'll, with that said, there are a variety of options - none of them are very good: Exmerge the data out to a PST (slow and painful) Set all clients to have mail delivery to PST rather than the mailbox - you lose OWA access for history and a new hateful world of is that contact in the object store or in my PST, synch'd calendar and really have a POP style environment. Set up OST to synch with the mailbox - probably the best of the worst choices - be ready for synch errors and general painfulness I'd bump this up the ladder and make it a issue for Corporate IT rather than circumvent the functionality of a decent product. Last option - set up your own Exchange server in house and manage the backups yourself. What's that age old adage that if you can do something better than the other guy, do it. Most Outlook clients are Outllok 2000 with some XP sprinkled
