Problems with SBS and external mail
Hi, I've a strange problem with SBS Server 4.5. My client can't recieve external mail. If you look att site adressing for exchange it looks like this www.company.com If you change it to company.com they don't recieve any external mail, you will get unknown recepient if mailing them. But if you use www.. as site adressing mail gets through, and recieve a internal inbound mail failure. They use the pop3 connector in exchange for this. Tried updating exchange to sp4, no luck. Anyone could help me? Thanks in advance. //Hakan List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

RE: Filtering based on extra header info
You could always create a rule to check messages when they arrive with specific words in the header and filter for X-Spam-Flag: YES, moving it to a SPAM folder or sending it to Deleted Items. Spam Assassin is pretty good. I use Trend's eManager to filter SPAM along with some rules I have created. It results in blocking around 90% of the SPAM and gives me around 0.10% of filtered messages that are legit. They all forward to a mailbox and I review the to/from addresses to make sure they are not to/from clients. Trend's product is good (8 out of 10 *s), but it does have a few bugs that they have hotfixed and it has some shortcomings in that it can't import/export wordlists. Though it is hard to beat Spam Assassin (free) (10 out of 10 *s)! It is a great product. Any chance you can forward your ISP information? I have a friend with a hosted site that would like to get on with an ISP that has something in place, such as Spam Assassin. Regards, Bob Bobby J. Christian II VeriSign, Inc. Death to the evil PST
Based on numerous posts here, we have decided to eliminate the use of PST's (and light beer) in our company and go with info stores in the mailbox. We are running Exch 5.5 Standard SP 4 on NT4 SP6a. There are about 2,000 users in our site. I'm curious how large some of your databases are and any difficulties associated with handling large Exchange databases. I am trying to retrain our management here to think in terms of limiting mailbox sizes, establishing a retention policy, etc., etc. But, in case we don't get there, other than the 16 TB limit, are there any other gotchas out there waiting for me? mit freundlichen Grüßen,(Best Regards), Steve Ropiak ZF Group NAO CERT, Exchange Administrator (207) 989-9115 voice (207) 989-8722 fax (513) 314-0197 cell [EMAIL PROTECTED] List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

RE: Poll time
I think I have beat you all. Exchange 5.5 Standard, on NT4.0 SP6A 198 MB Memory 2 GB mirrored system Partition 6GB raid for IS 2GB drive for the Logs 1 Pentium Pro 100Mhz CPU 184 users all using PSTs When I got here the box was PDC, DHCP, Primary Wins, a RAS server with 8 VPN Ports on it, ran Mail Essentials, and had several print queues on it! CPU was about 30% to 60%, but memory got to be a real issue. After several weeks of constant use it would be using 220MB, and things would really slow down. I am replacing this box one service at a time as we speak. It is now only the RAS server, and will go away entirely with the installation of Windows 2000. I was thinking that if we do go with Enterprise, we'd keep the db's on the SANS where we have about a TB and a half free. One of our servers that blew the 16 GB limit was a JV and they had a 16 GB database on a 20 GB partition. We had to plug in a couple more drives before we could even massage any free space into the database. mit freundlichen Grüßen,(Best Regards), Steve Ropiak ZF Group NAO CERT, Exchange Administrator (207) 989-9115 voice (207) 989-8722 fax (513) 314-0197 cell [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message- From: Stuart Tonge [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 9:56 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Death to the evil PST you'll be sorry if you dont get them to listed, my store is 15.7gb, which is bad enough, and there's 100mb left on the drive.. lol.. not much I can do about it though.. -Original Message- From: Ropiak Steve - NAO Florence Office IT [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 2:46 PM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: Death to the evil PST That was my first thought, too. I am trying to retrain our management here to think in terms of limiting mailbox sizes, establishing a retention policy, etc., etc. But, in case we don't get there, other than the 16 TB limit, are there any other gotchas out there waiting for me? mit freundlichen Grüßen,(Best Regards), Steve Ropiak ZF Group NAO CERT, Exchange Administrator (207) 989-9115 voice (207) 989-8722 fax (513) 314-0197 cell [EMAIL PROTECTED] List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm This email has been scanned for all viruses by the MessageLabs SkyScan service. I am guessing you are using Exchange 2000. We are working with Microsoft on this same issue. We were told this was by design. After much discussion with them over this we are close to getting a change made that would give the administrator an option to keep or delete the NDR's. e-mails slow to delete
Exchange 5.5 SP4 NT4SP6. We have several users that encounter a little bit of latency when trying to open or delete e-mails. Seems like most of the issues come from e-mails that have attachments. I looked at the attachment size and can see where a 2MB or above might take a little to delete. We are experincing issues with files in size of like 768K. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Chris List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

At MEC 99, I went to the panel discussion... I think the guy from Lucent was sitting on well over 100k seats as well. Hehehehe I really would hate to have to run that thing. That was a rather humorous conference... they had a few hundred computers set up downstairs for people to check their e-mail, access the internet, and most importantly to show of Exchange 2k and all it's new toys. It also had this communist block display of server hardware running the back-end... the biggest pieces Dell, Compaq, EMC, and IBM had. On the last day I'm going down to check my mail and play around... only to find out... that their Exchange server went down. No clustering... no backups... HAHAHAHAHAAHHA. The admin for Chevron was standing next to me shaking his head and laughing. It took them a few hours to get things running again. On that last note, yes we're having 'issues' with those PERC things too. Greatest headache is the remote machines not coming back up after a reboot. They sit in the 'bios not installed' state. OWA
Hi all. I'm trying to get OWA working for the first time on my W2K/E2K system (worked fine for years on my NT4/Ex5.5 boxes) and have run into a bug someone may be familiar with. Environment: Clients are W2K/IE6 with current patches (lat time I looked). Server is W2K AS, E2K SP1, ISA (yes, on the same box) and IIS 5 (basically, BO2K). I've followed all the ISA/Shinder/Technet stuff I can find to config so local IIS listens on a free port and all requests are redirected to that port. Can get to in-house written publicly-available web pages on the system from across the Internet fine. I can access OWA in-house but across the net I am requested to sign in (OK), then I get the two frames and a long pause. Eventually, both frames get a page cannot be displayed message in them. Any ideas? - Robert List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

We ran into that after checkpoint required that we put in an anti-nimda rule into the firewall (even though the requests were blocked by other rules). I've followed all the ISA/Shinder/Technet stuff I can find to config so local IIS listens on a free port and all requests are redirected to that port. Any errors / event ids ? -Original Message- From: Robert D. Young [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 14:20 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: OWA Hi all.
