Exchange Configuration Add-Ins
We apparently have some leftover Add-In for Faxination within the Configuration | Add-ins Exchange container. This is causing a Tab for the Faxination product to showup with the Exchange Properties. Also in some cases it is causing the following error/warning to pop-up when looking at mailbox properties: Extension 'FUSEREXT' could not be loaded. The specified module could not be found. Microsoft Windows NT ID no: 0xc002007e Can these Add-Ins: Faxination Gateway Extension for alpha Faxination Gateway Extension for i386 Faxination User Extension for alpha Faxination User Extension for i386 Be safely removed/deleted and have this Tab no longer show up as a property sheet? Strange Attachment Issue
Hi all, I have a strange problem with one particular e-mail. This is an email that was sent to about 60 users and has been opened and the attachments have been read before. All of a sudden when someone tries to open 3 of the 4 attachments the user gets Operation Failed. Any other mail with attachments is ok. Am I correct in saying that because of the way exchange 2000 works there is only 1 copy of this particular email in the storage group? Any Ideas? RE: Email Signature
Hi Stuart. This is a common question and the answer depends on what version of Exchange you are running. For both Exchange5.5 and 2000, the easiest to deploy would be a third party app that does it for you. http://www.mimesweeper.com/ http://www.exclaimer.co.uk/ http://www.disclaimit.com Otherwise for 5.5: Microsoft provides imsext.dll http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q258206; For Exchange 2000: You write an SMTP transport event sink: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q317680 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q288098 The FAQ: Exchange5.5: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Exchange2000: http://www.swinc.com/resource/e2kfaq.htm William -Original Message- From: Stuart Tonge [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, July 29, 2002 2:11 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: Email Signature Hiya. Hi Stuart, You might want to check out GFI Mail Essentials and Security at www.gfi.co.uk too, you can download 30 day evaluations from the site. I deployed this a couple of months back and found it to be the best for what I wanted, but price was a major factor, you might have more of a budget than my bunch! James. Outlook Master Category List...maybe OT.
In Outlook 2002 (XP) there is a field under each task - called category. If you click the category button you have the option to use some pre-defined categories or add your own to the Master Category List. My problem is that I can't for the life of me find out where Outlook stores the added categories. I can see that the predefined ones are stored in a .dll. I am trying to accomplish the distribution of a modified category list for all my Outlook clients. DR testing of e2k cluster
I am running through DR scenarios on the test network. I rebuilt the exchange cluster after an interupted DR test. However the old server name was still in the AD. So I named the new server something else and finished the install. I can now mail enable users in the AD, which goes through the mail setup and appears to finish with no error, but mailboxes do not appear in the store also you cannot (as expected open the mailbox) I dont believe there is an issue with the store. When you try to open the mailbox it states that it cannot find the name the global address list I have replaced this and can confirm that the name does exist in here. The easy solution would be to start from scratch and rebuild the AD but I am trying to understand what has happened here. The term fubar while probably very close is not really constructive though. Title: Message Probably because you aren't doing full online backups. You also don't seem to understand circular logging. If circular logging is disabled, the logs will NOT be overwritten. If circular logging is enabled, they will be overwritten. I'm not suggesting to enable circular logging, just pointing that out. To resolve your problem, you need to perform an online full backup, which will purge the transaction logs once they are committed. RE: DR testing of e2k cluster
Well, just thoughts... Did the users have mailboxes on the previous server name? There are specific steps involving removing the first server from the network and AD, which sounds like you did not do. Can I assume that proper time has been allotted for AD replication and RUS updates for these new mailenabled users? Are there lots of events in the application event log of this server and the GC server(s)? (It might be more hassle than it is worth to try to troubleshoot resulting issues with the actions you've taken. I'd be inclined to flatten the test network and start over really.) -Original Message- From: Nick Combellack [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, July 29, 2002 8:54 AM To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: RE: DR testing of e2k cluster Come on guys has anyone got any ideas with this I know you guys are good as I follow the list. |-Original Message- |From: Nick Combellack |Sent: 29 July 2002 16:36 |To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues |Subject: DR testing of e2k cluster | |I am running through DR scenarios on the test network. | |I rebuilt the exchange cluster after an interupted DR test. Quick Question for the Crew of XCHG2K xsperts
Title: Message We plan to move completely to XCHG2K (native) beginning in 03. Here's the environment: 35 sites running WIN2K (SP2) DC's in native mode in a Single domain/forest XCHG 5.5 (SP4) MS DOES NOT recommend running XCHG2K on a DC that is a GC due to LDAP port conflicts. There is a QARTICLE (Q275127 )that allows us a work around to this issue. But they claim I will experience MAIL FLOW problems, AD problems and oh yeah the very vague "other communication issues". When I push them for specifics, they won't give me details.. they just tell me it's a bad idea and recommend additional independent servers at each site.. that means 35 servers Each site is small in the number of users, but because of our WAN topology and service requirements our users need access to email when the WAN links are down. So centralization isn't possible currently. I would like to do an "in place" upgrade. But if this causes so many issues, I may not have a choice. So here' my question: Has anyone else on this alias run a DC/GC with XCHG2K and had problems? If so, what did you do to correct? RE: Quick Question for the Crew of XCHG2K xsperts
Title: Message 1) I don't know anything about your WAN links, but you might consider obtaining better links to allow for some consolidation. E2K can handle more users per server than 5.5 did. 2) I have a couple clients that run E2K on a DC/GC. The issues are similar as with 5.5 - both performance and recoverability. 3) Whenever possible, I would favour a fresh install. Even if it means installing a temporary server to migrate to and rebuild the intended upgrade server. But that's me. -Original Message-From: Rick Ward - HQ [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, July 29, 2002 10:10 AMTo: MS-Exchange Admin IssuesSubject: Quick Question for the Crew of XCHG2K xsperts We plan to move completely to XCHG2K (native) beginning in 03. RE: Quick Question for the Crew of XCHG2K xsperts
1. The article you quoted talks about Exchange 5.5 2. Exchange 2000 doesn't provide LDAP access. It uses it to access a DC/GC with the respective ports (389/3268). 3. Exchange 2000 runs quite nice on a Windows 2000 DC/GC. I've been using Exchange 2000 for about a year on a DC/GC as production machine before I bought an additional server to offload AD from my messaging machine to provide a more reliable network. I am still using Exchange 2000 on a DC/GC as development server and on an additional test server without any issues. RE: DR testing of e2k cluster
Do those new mailboxes when you mail enable them get stamped by RUS with the correct email address? Can you seem them in the global address list? Can you send a mail to them? After doing this do they appear on the store. [Are you checking this through ESM under the Mailbox store?] Are there any warnings or errors in your application event logs ? Thanks Rob -Original Message- From: Nick Combellack [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 29 July 2002 16:36 To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Subject: DR testing of e2k cluster I am running through DR scenarios on the test network. What this tells me is that it's perfectly legal, except in some jurisdictions, in which neither Eric nor his company reside. And pending? We can only hope. Pending laws are called bills, and they don't make a whit of difference. There are bills to legalize marijuana, and bills to allow the recording industry to browse your hard drive too.
