[FairfieldLife] Boobquake Day Followup
I must admit that, following a quick scan of the news and websites listing volcanic or earthquake activity, there seems to be no mention of any heightened seismic activity yesterday. I think that this is just a cryin' shame, and a clear message that God / the Laws Of Nature / Jyotish principles or whatever you call That Which You Believe Runs Things is a fuckin' slacker, and asleep at the wheel. I mean, yesterday a mass protest against an Iranian cleric's declaration that immodestly-dressed women cause earthquakes (and John R echoing the same theory here, supported by Jyotish principles) took place. *80,000* or more women worldwide dressed immodestly *on purpose* to test out this theory. That is an estimated *160,000* boobs jiggling unnecessarily, tempting men all over the world away from the path of righteousness, and taunting God to react by unleashing His seismic comeupance on the Earth.. But did God smite these evildoers? N. Can you say slacker? I think you can. If you are as upset about this as I am, and wish to officially register your protest, go to: We-are-men-so-terrified-of-boobs-that-we-think-God-should- smite-women-when-they-dress-immodestly-and-let-them-jiggle- in-public.com and sign our petition there. Speak up and make your voice known to God / the Laws Of Nature / whatever. Don't allow Him to slack off and allow these evil women to transgress by violating our...uh... we mean His laws. STAND UP for your right to be a weakling, with so little self control and non-attachment that you can be lured off the spiritual path and into the ways of evil thinking by a couple of mounds of jiggling flesh. Most of the great spiritual leaders in history (if one believes what their followers say about them) were just as terrified of boobs as you are, and just as willing to take out their own weakness on women by forbidding *them* to dress the way they want to. Most of these great spiritual leaders hated the sight of half of the human race's bodies as much as God does, and thus supported His laws about covering up all that flesh that He created and made jiggle in the first place. [FairfieldLife] Coolest architectural idea I've seen in years
I am fortunate in that my current apartment has lots of space, and that I can afford that space. But if I lived in New York or London or Hong Kong, I wouldn't be able to. I'd be stuck in a tiny apartment, and paying 3 to 5 times the rent I pay now for 1/3 to 1/5 of the space. So I just *love* this Hong Kong's architect's approach to the problem. He has invented a creative way to transform a 300-square-foot apartment into 24 different rooms. Neat. Literally. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg9qnWg9kak

I have been told that one of my ancestors, back in the 1700s, was a slaver who abducted people from Africa and put them on his ships bound for the New World, where they were sold into slavery for a profit. Well, this is clearly whack-job science. Is Dr OJ behind this? Or Buck? To be really scientific, it would take 10's of million of women many months of dressing immodestly to cause an earthquake that could be registered. And even then, hard to show cause. (Unless of course you use Box-Jenkins, then any result clearly shows cause.). So to prove this scientifically, 10's, even 100's of millions of women would need to dress extremely immodestly for months, even years. (And of course, science would need to explain why LA is not having daily earthquakes, in that they have been on the vanguard of this science for decades -- even exceeding the threshold.) And does FF have immodestly dressed women? Does it have earthquakes? See! Science again has proven remarkable things using FF as a testing ground. Perhaps, the scientists who report the Dome threshold numbers could provide daily reports of how many more extremely immodestly dressed women are needed to break the threshold, and ensure, centuries of Heaven on Earth -- um, err, I mean the devastation thing. [FairfieldLife] Proof Goldman Sachs did not Lie or Mislead.
Goldman's Lloyd Blankfein and Fabrice Tourre face questioning before a Senate panel just over a week after fraud charges against the company. Tourre says in his prepared testimony he does not recall telling investors that hedge fund client Paulson Co. had bought into a mortgage transaction that turned toxic. He says: I did not mislead. There you have it. In his own words. He does not recall. Many great men in history, did not recall. So back off you yellow-press. What more do you want than a man's word.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Spirituality Indicated Scientifically
Judy: And now we've reached the point in the exchange where Curtis realizes he has no legitimate ammunition, so he starts to make shit up and try to stuff it in my mouth, his standard tactic when up against the wall. Such integrity. (Doesn't it ever occur to him that the shit is going to splatter right back in his face?) As he knows, I never suggested I had credentials or training in the field. Just the same layperson's common sense and ability to use the Internet to do some low-level vetting that Curtis has but was too lazy to use, pretending his epistemic humility was so profound there was no way he could know anything at all about the journal's credibility, and that therefore it was the height of hubris for Buck to tout the paper. I did the same searches you did Judy I just lack your confidence in my ability to put the information in useful context. I also doubt yours. Except that Curtis went to a whole lot of trouble to try to *discredit* the journal and the paper, getting practically everything he said wrong. *That's* where a bit of epistemic humility would have done him some good, realizing that he needed to read what he was commenting on. E.g.: My comment apply with or without the distinction you found between a study and a paper about studies. [O-J] must have either been rejected at mainstream outlets already or knows it will not fly under more rigorous standards. So you think this was his first choice where to publish it? OK good for you, my opinion is probably not. As noted, the paper was *invited by the journal editors*; and it was a *review article*, not a report of original research. Means nothing to my comments about my lack of ability to analyse this paper in teh context of technical fields. And: I can't rely on my confidence in the peer review process concerning David's conclusions either. The paper wasn't peer-reviewed, since it was an invited contribution; and its conclusions were simply a review of the conclusions of many previous studies (not all by TMers). OK It took no training or credentials to come up with these facts, just a little attention to the Web site and the paper itself (or even just what was posted here *about* the paper). Embarrassing. Not to me. My points remain the same with or without your distinctions. Neither of us is trained in this field. I have no idea what the brain waves the studies found mean. Curtis also assumed, without having bothered to check it out, that because the journal publishes only online rather than on paper, therefore it couldn't be legitimate. Not true. I pointed out that it had been around for 3 years. Since I put up Websites and do not know the guys who put it up I have no way to disctinguish this site from one I could put up. True epistemic humility might have led him to try to find out what the current status is of online scientific publishing. Had he investigated, he'd have found out it's the latest thing, considered entirely respectable. You have missed my point. It is easier to scam with a Website because it costs so little. With a 3 year history and not being associated with any hard copy journal as an alternative media I have no way of evaluating it. Neither do you. That fact wouldn't have proved it was a quality journal, of course, just that it *could* be--that it publishes online doesn't rule out that it's respectable, as Curtis had assumed. I am not claiming that I know it is not respectible. I am saying I don't know if it is and it is easy to put up a site so I am suspicious. But the fact that the journal is supported by one of the most prestigious research universities in Europe, I don't know this. I haven't studied which ones are prestigious or not. And even prestigious universities have their nutters so it means nothing to me since I am not in this field. and the top in Germany--another easily discernible fact that Curtis overlooked--suggests that the journal is hardly bottom-of-the-barrel trash. This may be the vanity project of a professeur about to be canned. Your assumptions make you an easy mark. Plus which, both journal editors work for well- respected research institutions, and one of them has published widely in the field. That isn't anything that requires training or credentials to determine either. It doesn't mean the editors are tops in their field, but again it suggests you can't just dismiss them out of hand as devoid of any chops. I just said I don't know and I am suspicious. The fact that it is David doesn't help. snip and I would have to care more than I do to even try. I don't mind openly admitting ignorance in this area. Wow. So you're beating up on Buck for asking about material whose credibility *you have no interest in even trying to determine*. Can you say chutzpah? I know you can. Nice try. ...how do you not get someone pregnant during this time? Judy: Maybe the women, or most of them, used birth control, and it was just luck with those who didn't? Maybe he was careful to pull out... Maybe. And maybe he never 'put it in'; maybe he preferred 'fellatio'; or maybe he got a body 'massage'. Who knows? Maybe nobody ever 'caught' him doing anything like that. But, how could you NOT get caught, *at least once*, in over fifteen years, with a couple of horny boys in suits, hanging outside your unlocked, bedroon door, 24/7? It doesn't make any sense! What I've read, so far, at least from the skin-boy 'door stops', is nothing more than bowling alley type 'locker talk' speculation, with no eyewitness details at all. Apparently Judith's book isn't published yet, and Linda isn't talking! (Alex Mardas and John Lennon are known liars.) So, it still doesn't make any sense. You'd think, that in 'fifteen years' of supposed activity, at least one young buck would have caught him in the act. But, apparently even Connie Larsson, 'God's Little Clown', who claims to have been his 'private secretary' and who 'travelled with him everywhere day and night', from 1969 to 1975, would have seen SOMETHING, would you not? It just doesn't seem in character for a person like Connie to NOT report such, seeing as how Connie was the primary informant in the Satya Sai Baba expose! And, Tom Anderson, (Sudarsha), his TTC 'manager' in Majorrca, Spain, and in Fuiggi, Italy, and Noida, India, from 1975 to 1980, who was so close that he even once saw his official Indian passport, doesn't report anything like that at all on Usenet. Go figure. Hell, even Steven Perino, who scoured the net for years looking for dirt on the 'Little MishMashy Old Man', didn't have anything to report about this. One thing is fer sure, somebody is lying. What does his biographer have to say about this, I wonder - his comment is a '404 - page not found'. Now, go figure that one! I know you aren't stupid, so I have to assume you're just disingenuous. Here's what I was responding to (which you cleverly snipped): I am so impressed with your credentials in this field. You are just another person who mistakes intelligence for training. Very common in pseudo-science. See above where I said make shit up and try to stuff it in my mouth? Where exactly did I tout, or even hint at, my credentials or training in this field? From the start, my point was that you don't *need* any credentials or training to do the kind of low-level check I did. That was the least of your errors, true. But you made it because you didn't bother to determine what it was you were complaining about, instead spending most of your time composing the lengthy complaint. On the other hand, you might want to ask a scientist you trust about the relative significance of review articles vs. original research studies. Plus which, you attribute all the conclusions involved to O-J, but he was an author of only 9 of the several dozen papers whose conclusions he cited in his review. [O-J] must have either been rejected at mainstream outlets already or knows it will not fly under more rigorous standards. So you think this was his first choice where to publish it? Again: It was an *invited commentary* (one among 14) specifically on a paper previously published in that journal. No other journal is going to extend a mass invitation to comment on a paper published in a *different* journal. This ain't rocket science, Curtis. The first choice question simply doesn't apply. As noted, the paper was *invited by the journal editors*; and it was a *review article*, not a report of original research. Means nothing to my comments about my lack of ability to analyse this paper in teh context of technical fields. Makes a *huge* difference with regard to your first choice issue (which was clearly intended to denigrate O-J). If you can't evaluate assertions about a technical field you have no expertise in, second-best is to check out the credentials of whoever made the assertions. That's done all the time here with regard to, for example, critiques of the global warming hypothesis, and it makes sense as far as it goes: suspicions about the assertions of those without credentials are often well founded. But if you're going to raise doubts about assertions on the basis of the lack of credentials of those making them, you'd damn well better make sure you've checked them out thoroughly enough to be *sure* they lack credentials, instead of simply making up the alleged lack as you did. snip It took no training or credentials to come up with these facts, just a little attention to the Web site and the paper itself (or even just what was posted here *about* the paper). Embarrassing. Not to me. My points remain the same with or without your distinctions. Some do, some don't, as noted. Neither of us is trained in this field. I have no idea what the brain waves the studies found mean. Perfectly reasonable objection. If you'd stuck to that, it wouldn't be a problem. Yes, you do. A Web site you put up is hardly likely to be sponsored by a

[FairfieldLife] Fwd: FACC detail PLEASE VOTE YES
Fwd from a friend: You can vote early at the court house. Hello community friends, In just one week there will be a vote on the FACC using LOST money from city of Fairfield. This vote is more important than most people realize, and the best/only option for remaining open, and in our local hands. Some people do not realize the importance the FACC has come to have in actually generating LOST revenues for our community. With a hi-way by-pass now, it is even more important to bring in visitors. There are no downsides to voting yes. But there are for voting no - if LOST revenue goes down, all entities will lose, including extras made possible for city supported groups like the library, park rec, FPAC, and many others. Help keep Fairfield positive and vibrant - VOTE YES and encourage your family friends to do the same. Please feel free to share this email. City Councilman Myron Gookin, who chairs the city's Finance Committee, makes a poignant case for voting yes on May 4th. The key points he made are: 1. Voting 'yes' will not raise your taxes 2. The FACC is an incredibly important asset to Fairfield 3. It has a viable plan for financial sustainability 4. We need to protect our investment The article may be read it its entirety of the FairfieldCenterInfo site - http://www.fairfieldcenterinfo.com/?p=640http://www.fairfieldcenterinfo.com/?p=640 . What's nice about going to the site is that you can easily share the full article with your network by utilizing the share button at the bottom of the page. [FairfieldLife] Teabaggers not as concerned with civil liberties
Two-thirds of supporters of the conservative Tea Party movement believe the government should be able to tap people's phone conversations and profile people based on race or religion, according to a new poll from the University of Washington. Our survey suggests that among tea partiers, there's less dedication to certain civil liberties, Christopher S. Parker, a UW assistant professor of political science who leads the 2010 Multi-State Survey of Race Politics, said in a statement. The survey of more than 1,000 people took place in seven states, UW said. Six of them - Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio - were battleground states in the 2008 presidential election. The seventh, California, was included to represent the West Coast, the school said in a news release. The telephone poll was taken Feb. 8-15. The margin of error was 3.1 percent. http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/archives/203424.asp
[FairfieldLife] Arizona Immigration Law to increase Hispanic votes for Dems
Arizona law awakens the sleeping giant for Democrats It will awaken the sleeping giant of the Hispanic vote that will be politically transforming and powerfully helpful to Democrats. Under the new Arizona immigration law, if the same conduct is done by whites and Hispanics, the whites will never be stopped and asked for their papers, and the Hispanics very often will be. This law should be thrown out by the courts and pre-empted by national legislation. It guarantees abuses that are an outrage to our nation. It will awaken the sleeping giant of the Hispanic vote that will be politically transforming and powerfully helpful to Democrats. The Hispanic population wave is one of the most politically powerful events in American politics today. This demographic wave is enormous and will increase the number of congressional seats in key states with Hispanic populations that will give an advantage to Democrats. What right-wing Republicans fail to understand is that the Arizona law is insulting to one of the most patriotic and law-abiding segments of the great mosaic we call America. The very notion that any law would guarantee discriminatory enforcement against any segment of our American mosaic is not only repellent to the American idea, but a guarantee of an unprecedented political mobilization that will energize Hispanic Democratic voters and move Hispanic swing voters into the Democratic column. The Tea Party right is already mobilized, though the media gives their numbers far more credit than they deserve. The Hispanic population is the sleeping giant of American politics and Hispanic voters will now be roused more than ever before. The impact of Hispanic voters on the elections of 2010 and 2012 will be enormous in number and enormously helpful to Democrats. In the longer term, the high court of history will reject everything the Arizona law stands for, and in the coming elections the sleeping giant will have been awakened. The Republicans have not only further divided the nation, but have energized a huge number of voters who are the fastest-growing constituency in American politics. Republicans will long regret the day they did this. http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/immigration/94527-arizona-law-awakens-the-sleeping-giant-for-democrats

Mike Dixon: Good points Willy! Have you noticed the difference between the Tea Party demonstrators and the Anti AZ demonstrators? Apparently 31% of the U.S. public want illegal aliens to overrun us! Violence broke out at a political demonstration over the weekend, as protesters chased police officers, pelting them with rocks and bottles. Was this a gang of Tea Partiers running amok, as eagerly awaited by so many liberals? Well, no. The demonstration was at the state capitol in Arizona, against that state's new immigration statute... Jerry Jarvis Coming St. Paul Bhairitu: The only reason Willy posts here is to be annoying. I can't even recall when he ever started a topic. [FairfieldLife] Goldman says You want the truth? You can't handle the truth
You want the truth? You can't handle the truth. Son, we live in a country with an investment gap. And that gap needs to be filled by men with money. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Middle Class Consumer? Goldman Sachs has a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lehman and you curse derivatives. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what we know: that Lehman's death, while tragic, probably saved the financial system. And that Goldman's existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves pension funds. You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want us to fill that investment gap. You need us to fill that gap. We use words like credit default swaps, collateralized debt obligation, and securitization? We use these words as the backbone of a life spent investing in something. You use 'em as a punchline. We have neither the time nor the inclination to explain ourselves to a commoner who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very credit we provide, and then questions the manner in which we provide it! We'd rather you just said thank you and paid your taxes on time. Otherwise, we suggest you get an account and start trading. Either way, we don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!
