I really don't know what to think when I read stuff
like this. Unlike many, I was never a Hindu wannabee
when I was part of the TM movement. I didn't believe
then that poor kids bought off the streets with the
promise of three square meals a day chanting verses
in a language they don't understand could affect the
world terribly much, and I don't believe it now.
It's all far too Woo Woo Ray for me.

But congrats to the TMO for finally -- *once* -- doing
what they said they would do. I know that many, like
Roses-coloured-glasses here and Jim, will be projecting
all their fantasies onto these kids, hoping that the
magical Woo Woo Rays will transform the world. Me,
I'll be looking to see how this whole experiment works
out. Will poor kids brought to America be content with
living in seclusion in the land of milk-white breasts
and honey-colored Cadillacs, or will they start sneakin'
out at night for a little taste of what most Indians
I've ever met are *really* interested in? What will
happen if they do? (I think we all know the answer to
that one -- Maharishi and the TMO will react with swift
and sure vengeance, and try to strike the fear of God
into these kids and make them toe the Vedic line.)

All in all, it'll be a fairly interesting experiment to
watch. I think the most telling thing so far is the
plan to cut funds to Westerners and use Settle's grant
to pay for the outsourced butt-bouncers, almost cer-
tainly *while* using them as fodder to inspire a whole
new set of demands for funds from the Westerners. It's
a scenario just *designed* for the TMO -- they get to
use Somebody Else's Money to pay for the room and board
for Maharishi's Kids, while he gets to do telethons
to raise additional millions of dollars, not a penny
of which will ever go their way.

And all the while, the HIndu wannabees will be mood-
making a mile a minute, seeing the world through their
Roses-coloured glasses, seeing nothing but what they
want to see, insisting that this imported pool of cheap
labor really *is* saving the world through the power of
their Woo Woo Rays. *However* it turns out, it'll be
a real circus, top-notch entertainment. But what I'm
waiting for is what happens the first time one of these
kids decides to say, Fuck this chanting shit...I'm
gonna go into town and knock me off some booty. Now
*that* will be entertainment...

  Dear Friends,

  The pandits are here!

You probably know the story about Krishna holding up the sky with
 one hand
with everyone else coming with their broomsticks to help. Over
 the last
few days, there have been a lot of broomsticks at work, and a
 miracle has
happened. Those monstrously ugly, old, hopelessly rundown frat
 buildings are
being transformed, right in front of one's eyes, into what one
 person called
four star hotels. No one would have thought such a
 transformation was
possible. A few days ago light fixtures were dangling, plumbing
 was leaking,
clogged, or broken, carpet was ragged, walls were dirty and
 broken, doors
were missing, knobs didn't work, windows were broken or hung in
 broken
  sashes--it was a tenement building.

But when it was understood that the pandits were really coming,
 the call
went out for volunteers. When I went to see what I could do to
 help, I was
enthralled by what I saw. It wasn't people who responded to that
 call--it
was saints. I am acquainted with people whom I believe to be
 enlightened,
but anyone can be enlightened--not everyone becomes a saint.
 Predominately,
these people were saints. I didn't see any mood- makers there
 (it's hard to
maintain a mere mood when you've worked until 1:00 A.M. many
 nights in a
row) but what I did see was, again and again, upstairs and down,
 faces that
glowed through fatigue with an innerluminescence, a simple and
 pure spirit
of service. Many of them had not eaten since lunch, some not since
breakfast. Yet everyone was smiling and moving swiftly. With so
 much
happening so fast there was much confusion, yet I heard no
 complaints. There
are soldiers on a battlefield soaked in blood and terror; here the
 battle
for world peace was being waged with mops and paint brushes,
 screwdrivers
and glue, love and helping hands ... and smiles.

There's a lot to thank donors for, but I don't think we could have
 raised
the money to pay for having this done. I don't think there is a
 construction
company on earth that would have been willing to contract for that
 much
renovation in such a short time. Day before yesterday, I tripped
 over loose
tiles while putting painter's tape over light fixtures in the
 pathetic,
dingy, barren lower hall of Building 114. That's how bad it was.
 But twenty

I think the latter is a given, right? They're the
TMO's Jerry's Kids.

The visa thing, however, *would* be good to know
the details of. I used to work in NYC with any
number of Indians who had been brought over to
the US by their relatives. The relatives were
billing these guys' services to Chase Manhattan
Bank for $50 an hour while paying them $5 an hour
and putting them up in the YMCA. The poor guys
who were being treated like this were afraid to
say anything or do anything because their relatives
had convinced them that under the conditions of
their visas they could *not* seek other work or
doing anything other than what their bosses (in
this case their sleazy relatives) said.

We (me and a few other programmers) did the home-
work for them and found out the real details of
their visa situation and sat them all down and
told them the truth. As a result, most of these
guys were able to renegotiate their own direct
contracts with Chase Manhattan, and tell their
relatives to go fuck themselves. We also informed
Chase Manhattan what the relatives were doing and
the bank reacted by taking them off the approved
providers list. Sometimes things work out the
way you'd like them to.

Anyway, I think it would be good :-) if someone
found out what the visas these guys arrived here
under really say, just in case any of them get
tired of generating Woo Woo Rays, and are prevented
from doing so by those they trust.

Creation of Artificial states has also contributed to serious political problems. Israel, Kuwait, Pakistan, Taiwan, Splitting of the Koreas, etc etc. Kuwait was always a part of Iraq or Mesapotomia for 5000 years. The British greedy for Oil, carved out an artificial state and called it Kuwait in the 1930's. Iraq in fact has an legitimate claim over Kuwait just as Egypt had over Suez canal. Mahmud Gauri of Afghanistan invaded india in 1192, every single village and town on the way was slaughtered. Prithivi Raj Chauhan called for help from his father-in-law Jayachandra, but he was jealous of PrithiviRaj and refused to cometo his help. Mahmud gauri defeated the ill-prepared Prithivi Raj Chauhan and executed him and raped his wife who later commited Suicide. The same Mahmud Gauri again invaded india, two years later, attacked and killed jayachandra and left for Afthanistan. Nalanda, a part of the Budhist circuit, is famous for the the ancient International Monastic University. Established in 5th century BC by the Gupta Emperors, it was a famous learning centres in ancient times. The university had centres for studies in Buddhism, Vedas, Logic, Grammar, Medicine, Meta-Physics, Prose Composition and Rhetoric. Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavira have also taught here. The university library had a mammoth collection of 9 million volumes. The university remains are scattered around an area of 14 hectares. Though a large part of the university has been explored, a huge
portion remains unexcavated. It is believed that the university could accommodate 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers easily. Hsuan Tsang, the renowned Chinese traveler was also involved with the university foe 12 years. There is a monument built here in his memory. In 12th century AD, the whole university complex was destroyed by Bakhtiar Khilji, a Turkish Invader. All the 9 million books manuscripts and scrolls were burnt and all the buddhiust monks were killed. The entire university was burnt to the ground. Timur the Lameinvaded indiain 1398, theMongols descended into India, occupying Delhi, capital of the Islamic Delhi

The residents ofdelhi rebeled, Timur ordered all the 70,000 residents of Delhi to be slaughtered and their heads cut of and piled in a heap.Aurangzeb the Mughal emperor from 1658 until 1707 was a Muslim fanatic. He tortured and killed thousands of Hindu Scholars because they refused to convert to Islam. He also introduced the Jiziya tax that should be paid only by Hindus The partition of India in 1947left both India and Pakistan devastated. The process of partition had claimed many lives in the riots. Many others were
raped and looted. Women, especially, were used as instruments of power by the Hindus and the Muslims; "ghost trains" full of severed breasts of women would arrive in each of the newly-born countries from across the borders. Atleast, 100,000 women were raped during the Partition riots. Around a million people died directly or indirectly due to the partition riots. it was the biggest displacement of people in history. 15 million refugees poured across the borders to regions completely foreign to them, for though they were Hindu or Muslim, their identity had been embedded in the regions where there ancestors were from. Not only was the
country divided, but so were the provinces of Punjab and Bengal, divisions which caused catastrophic riots and claimed the lives of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs alike. Many years after the partition, the two nations are still trying to heal the wounds left behind by this incision to once-whole body of India. Many are still in search of an identity and a history left behind beyond an impenetrable boundary. The two countries started of with ruined economies and lands and without an established, experienced system of government. They lost many of their most dynamic leaders, such as Gandhi, Jinnah and Allama Iqbal, soon after the partition. Pakistan had to face the separation of Bangladesh in 1971. India and Pakistan have been to war thrice since the partition and they are still deadlocked over the issue of possession
of Kashmir. The same issues of boundaries and divisions, Hindu and Muslim majorities and differences, still persist in Kashmir.MarkMeredith2002 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Sat, 28 Oct 2006 22:24:42 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: Pandits are HERE!India has hundreds of thousands of pundits doing their thing and hashad them for centuries and the country has been a social and economicmess for most of those centuries, yet 49 hindu priests in trainingarrive in the US and the destiny of the US and the world has beentransformed? ?? I think the latter is a given, right? They're the

You did good. 'Sleazy' relatives, what can I say? I was thinking more
along the lines of Madonna. Adopt a pundit: Wisk them away from
confused fathers to live in a 'mansion'. Maybe that's following the
trends a little to closely though...

Dev came out from his mountain cave to restore proper meditation,
 the
centerpiece of Vedic culture, and those pundits and others who are
practicing TM will be operating from a level of consciousness
 where
activity, whether it is ordinary or doing the yagyas, will be
effective because the actors have expanded their awareness, not
 made
themselves even duller with ineffective and boring meditation
  techniques.

There's no evidence that Guru Dev promoted some new proper meditation
to restore vedic civilization, in fact the evidence is to the
contrary, no one in guru dev's ashram report learning TM or some such
new meditation from him. TM is something MMY came up with long after
guru dev was gone, so guru dev should be left out of this particular
debate.

The theory that religious rituals are more meaningful or effective if
the practitioner is in a heightened state of awareness makes sense,
though I might phrase it differently to emphasize devotion instead,
but I would take issue with the assertion that learning TM
automatically gives a person expanded awareness that enables them to
send global transforming rays throughout the universe - we have lots
of 30+ yrs meditators in this town as evidence to the contrary. The
vast vast majority of 30+ yr meditators don't have success with the
sutras so why would new meditators be experts at yagyas.

My main pt on this issue though is really just an emotional reaction
to the emerging groupthing here that all our individual problems and
even kali yuga itself are on the way out because of some pundit boys
moving to the US -- people can believe in their vedic civilization
revival if they want but I bet many of them have spent much of their
lives in similar games of magical thinking and denial.

I understand that the gift bags had treats from Godiva, shoes from
Prada, and the most lovely silk Hermes scarves. Mini bottles of Dom
Perignon bubbly as well as Brie from the Verchere region were included
as well.

A Panasonic mini DVD player along with a selection of the latest
releases topped the offerings.

Several expressed disappointment at not receiving a cash equivalent.
One more worldly-wise pundit wondered aloud whether the gifts were
taxable and, if so, would the value on the 1099 he would get at the
end of fiscal '06 be cost or market value.

Apparently, several pundits looked at each other and just smiled,
knowlingly. One asked the bus driver if the buses were bringing them
to the gold streets. The driver asked him what he meant and the
young fellow (who couldn't have been more than 17) replied: you know,
where the streets are paved like that.

I must have missed those posts. I don't see anyone on FFL, much less a
group feeding on each other, who claim the above. Even the TMO
party-line / propoganda isn't quite as bold as the above, IMO. And no
one here appears to be proclaiming that. Except perhaps the repost
from another list of the Roses piece. (which I found nice, though a
bit flowerly.)

You, Barry and others, appear to me to be imagining some phantom posts
and reacting to them.

Or perhaps you equate those expressing some happiness that the pundits
have come as being movement syncophants/mouthpieces of its party-line.
If so, thats quite false leap of logic.

I am happy the pundits have come. And that 1000 may actually show up.
Aren't you? I don't know what the global effect of 1000 pundits or
2000 YF's is. I am skeptical, yet open. I look at the evidence -- and
am following the financial market impacts. it will be some time before
any substantive claims could ever be made.

A large ME effect has nothing to do with my modest expressions of
happiness. My happiness comes from extrapolating my experience in
flying in large groups. Small ones 500 or so, at that. I didn't go
to Utopia and all in really BIG groups. But my experience, and
everyone I have ever talked to, always sys that the atmosphere and
inner vibe is fantastic from such. Is that not your experience?

And I have attended a number of yagyas, homas, etc. From just ONE
pundit, the atmosphere is wonderful, intense at times, IME. 1000
pundits doing yagya would be awesome.

So having 1000 pundits and 2000 YF's in FF I am sure is a good thing.
I think Masses are a good thing. I think muslims bowing and praying 5
times a day is a good thing. All have some good effect. Why anyone
would dis such is beyond me.

And FF with 1000 pundits and 2000 YF's I imagine would be very
cool. I would be tempted to visit or move back.

Global effects, smobal effects. What does it matter, if a knock your
socks off atmosphere is created in FF.

Time will tell if there is no discernable, some little, or possible
some substantial global effect from a sustained, multi-year project of
1000 pundits or 2000 YF's . That will unfold as it does. But does
that uncertainty diminish or effect the great vibe that is being
created locally?

This was bob brigante's post I believe, not mine.

There's no evidence that Guru Dev promoted some new proper
meditation
to restore vedic civilization, in fact the evidence is to the
contrary, no one in guru dev's ashram report learning TM or some
such
new meditation from him. TM is something MMY came up with long
after
guru dev was gone, so guru dev should be left out of this
particular
 debate.

The theory that religious rituals are more meaningful or effective
if
the practitioner is in a heightened state of awareness makes sense,
though I might phrase it differently to emphasize devotion instead,
but I would take issue with the assertion that learning TM
automatically gives a person expanded awareness that enables them
to
send global transforming rays throughout the universe - we have
lots
of 30+ yrs meditators in this town as evidence to the contrary.

Agreed- the universe has to be receptive to the intent of the
meditators for the rays to work. Maharishi discusses this in SBAL as
I recall- the acceptance of the environment.

The
vast vast majority of 30+ yr meditators don't have success with the
sutras so why would new meditators be experts at yagyas.

It has to do with the destiny of the earth being transformed. Things
are possible now that weren't possible before. We don't live in a
vacuum you know. There is an intimate relationship of the earth to
the rest of the universe. The correspondence of the earth to the
rest of the Milky Way galaxy. Hard nosed facts.

My main pt on this issue though is really just an emotional
reaction
to the emerging groupthing here that all our individual problems

Who believes that? Sounds like trash- there continues to be no such

But twenty
four hours later, the magic had happened. In the same room, I
passed the
entourage with Raja Wynn as he toured the all-but-finished
building and
overheard John Runkle say, in a marveling tone, This is so nice
I'd be
willing to move in here myself!

Indeed, it was very nice--new paint, carpets, and repairs
throughout, with
everything functional, even pretty! Each room was pristine clean
with new
paint and carpet, and had two beds of blond wood hand-made by MUM's
carpenter, with new futon mattresses all made up with fresh
bedding and new
towels and wool blankets. Colorful new curtains, attractive
incense burners,
and welcome gifts gave each room a warm and cozy feeling. If I
were an
incoming guest, I would have felt honored to be given such a room.
In the
interior lobbies, large pots of colorful silk flowers gave a
feeling of the
colors of the pandits' homeland. More silk flowers made even the
stairwells
feel bright and cheerful and welcoming.

Downstairs, the cooking area had been transformed into a glistening
self-sufficient kitchen with new commercial-sized stoves,
refrigerators, and
dishwashing equipment. The dining area was really charming. MUM's
carpenter
had created long, low tables at which there were colorful cushions
for
seating. A serving table had been prepared full of all manner of
prasads in
gold-colored dishes, and hot milk was ready to serve. Outside,
miniature
lights crowned the new perimeter fence.

The pandits arrived about midnight. In respect for their
tradition, the
ladies had all left so the rest of my story came from my husband
who was
part of the welcoming committee who lined the entrance pathway with
sparklers. He said when the young men arrived, they didn't look
tired,
yawning, and disorderly as most of us are when we've traveled
through
several time zones over a period of several days, but appeared to
be
clear-eyed and conscious, as if they were fully focused on their
mission
here. Upon hearing that they were young men, in their twenties and
thirties,
I had imagined that they would be a naturally rowdy group. But
instead of
gawking with curiosity or confusion at unfamiliar surroundings, my
husband
said they appeared remarkably self-contained, silent, and
dignified. Their
chanting before partaking of the treats and hot milk they had been
served,
 was deeply moving, he said.

There were 49 in this group. There are 451 yet to come and several

Day before yesterday, I tripped over loose tiles while putting painter's tape over light fixtures in the pathetic, dingy, barren lower hall of Building 114. That's how bad it was. But twenty four hours later, the magic had happened. In the same room, I passed the entourage with Raja Wynn as he toured the
all-but-finished building and overheard John Runkle say, in a marveling tone, "This is so nice I'd be willing to move in here myself!"Indeed, it was very nice--new paint, carpets, and repairs throughout, with everything functional, even pretty! Each room was pristine clean with new paint and carpet, and had two beds of blond wood hand-made by MUM's carpenter, with new futon mattresses all made up with fresh bedding and new towels and wool blankets. Colorful new curtains, attractive incense burners, and welcome gifts gave each room a warm and cozy feeling. If I were an incoming guest, I would have felt honored to be given such a room. In the interior lobbies, large pots of colorful silk flowers gave a feeling of the colors of the pandits' homeland. More silk flowers made even the stairwells feel bright and cheerful and welcoming.Downstairs, the cooking area had been transformed into a glistening self-sufficient kitchen with new commercial-sized stoves,
refrigerators, and dishwashing equipment. The dining area was really charming. MUM's carpenter had created long, low tables at which there were colorful cushions for seating. A serving table had been prepared full of all manner of prasads in gold-colored dishes, and hot milk was ready to serve. Outside, miniature lights crowned the new perimeter fence. The pandits arrived about midnight. In respect for their tradition, the ladies had all left so the rest of my story came from my husband who was part of the welcoming committee who lined the entrance pathway with sparklers. He said when the young men arrived, they didn't look tired, yawning, and disorderly as most of us are when we've traveled through several time zones over a period of several days, but appeared to be clear-eyed and conscious, as if they were fully focused on their mission here. Upon hearing that they were young men, in their twenties and thirties, I had imagined that they would be a naturally

You probably know the story about Krishna holding up the sky with one hand with everyone else coming with their broomsticks to "help." Over the last few days, there have been a lot of broomsticks at work, and a miracle has happened. Those monstrously ugly, old, hopelessly rundown frat buildings are being transformed, right in front of one's eyes, into what one person called "four star hotels." No one would have thought such a transformation was possible. A few days ago light fixtures were dangling, plumbing was leaking, clogged, or broken,
carpet was ragged, walls were dirty and broken, doors were missing, knobs didn't work, windows were broken or hung in broken sashes--it was a tenement building. But when it was understood that the pandits were really coming, the call went out for volunteers. When I went to see what I could do to help, I was enthralled by what I saw. It wasn't people who responded to that call--it was saints. I am acquainted with people whom I believe to be enlightened, but anyone can be enlightened- -not everyone becomes a saint. Predominately, these people were saints. I didn't see any mood- makers there (it's hard to maintain a mere mood when you've worked until 1:00 A.M. many nights in a row) but what I did see was, again and again, upstairs and down, faces that glowed through fatigue with an innerluminescence, a simple and pure spirit of
service. Many of them had not eaten since lunch, some not since breakfast. Yet everyone was smiling and moving swiftly. With so much happening so fast there was much confusion, yet I heard no complaints. Planetary Acupunture [By Martin Gray] When you reach the immediate area of your pilgrimage
place make the conscious effort to approach with the focussed intention that you are going to plug an electrical appliance into a wall socket. This metaphor is very helpful to embody; it actually predisposes you to a more intense connection with the sacred site. Be there with a free and open mind. Maybe you will wander around first and then meditate or maybe it will be the other way around. Maybe you will take a nap or pray or play. There are no rules. Simply let the spirit of the place and your own being come into come into relationship and then let go to however that flows. The energy transference at the power place goes both ways; earth to human and human to earth. The wondrously magical living earth gives us tiny human beings subtle infusions of high octane soul food and as pilgrims we give the earth a sort of planetary acupunture in return. True, the power places were mostly discovered in old times but they are still vital today, still charged and emanating a
potent field of transformational energy. Open yourself to this power. Let it touch you and teach you while the planet is inturn graced by your own love. India is a mess because the Vedic way of life is only meaningful when
it is accurately followed in order to live a life of high
consciousness -- otherwise all the rituals in the world are
meaningless, leaving India high and dry, as it has been for thousands
of years (because of the onset of the Kaliyuga). Millions of people,
pundits or not, who are not meditating properly do nothing to
contribute to national coherence, which is why India is a mess. Guru
Dev came out from his mountain cave to restore proper meditation, the
centerpiece of Vedic culture, and those pundits and others who are
practicing TM will be operating from a level of consciousness where
activity, whether it is ordinary or doing the yagyas, will be
effective because the actors have expanded their awareness, not made
themselves even duller with ineffective and boring meditation
techniques.

 buildings are
being transformed, right in front of one's eyes, into what one
 person called
four star hotels.

 But twenty
four hours later, the magic had happened.

But
 instead of
 gawking with curiosity or confusion

So what happpens when they are all here? Do people start to float?

I don't know about that- my attention is on fewer people dying in war;
world peace.
