Peppertree's Arne & Sherette's Sebastian on the move....
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer, Painted Ponies & Fjords" Hello Folks & Friends, I know many of you are wondering what has been happening with our wonderful Fjords, Peppertree’s Arne and Sherette’s Sebastian. Well, they have left California and made it to Patti Jo Walter’s farm in Wisconsin. My daughter is 18 yro (geez how time flies) and isn’t into riding any more. So, a wonderful Win-Win situation came along and I know Patti and her riders will polish Arne and round out Sebastian’s training. Both Fjords are great candidates for summer camp activities, Blue Earth Show fun and driving, which Arne hasn’t done since he’s been here. SO, for anyone in the Midwest, these great Fjords (Arne a Blue evaluated guy) may be closer to you and now within a trip to see. Patti accepted them on consignment BUT we need to give her some time to let them settle in as they *just got there*. Arne, a Red Dun (13 yro), was doing Pony Club and 3 Day Eventing; you can see him on YouTube if you search *Arne, Fjord*. There are 3 videos showing him in the 3 Day Eventing disciplines. His father, BDF Kanada King was awesome in dressage and Arne has that forward movement and LOVES jumping and rolling along the hills and dales of the XCountry courses. He has Silver Medallions in Beg. English and Beg. Driving and a Blue in Conformation (83.75) Sebastian (8 Yro) has been Arne’s pasture mate and is happy to be at Patti’s where he’ll be trained and worked with on a regular basis. He is a beautiful Brown Dun with movement and energy to spare. I’m sorry my daughter didn’t continue his training, he’d make a nice eventing horse also. There you have our update! I look out and miss them but I am very pleased that they will be back where Fjords rule. And I know Patti will rock on with their training. Our thanks to Patti for accepting this mission and helping our Fjords find new homes. She can be contacted at: http://www.franciscreekfjords.com/ Cheers! Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com Madera, CA. Yes, Gene's Full size Park Drag
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello Group and Friends, Yes, this picture is of my father, Gene Bauer, taken at the Canadian Classic, Orangeville, Ont. around 1995. The Fjords are: wheelers: Ivar & Peer, and leaders: Foldelen & Solvin. Dad is the Whip and Susan Keating is riding shot gun... The Drag was made in 1870 in England and has a Hand Engraved wheel wrench with the Earl of Lonsdale's name. It is presently FOR SALE ... by my brothers and I. Kayo, whose site you found it on, is a gal who asked if she could mention it to folks who may be interested in that type of vehicle. I am advertising it in this month's "Whip" magazine, also. It has been in storage with Antique Cars... yes dry and in perfect shape... It's cool to see the Horseless and Horse Drawn Carriage together 30 minutes from Ohare Airport, if you'd like to visit. It is a full size Drag, just because he drove it with Fjords, doesn't make it smaller. There are Accessories & Appointments included. The lamps are not original, but they look good to me... He had some of the fittings on the pole cast which, as a steel man, he was able to do what was needed for easier hitching. When he passed away in 1997, there wasn't a serious buyer, so now that my mother has passed away, we are interested in finding it a new Grand master to drive and continue its equine history. So, Tally HO ----- visit www.webscriber.com/parkdrag.html and see more. Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com P.S. I did hear that a lady bought a Drag and painted it like this one but it isn't Dad's Drag so there you have it, and that's the rest of the story
Valentine's Equine Items +++ Are U Selling Younsters?
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> fjordhorse-digest V2003 #27Hello List and Fjord Friends, I noticed the posts about the cookie cutter and I would be interested in know more. I could add them to my site and also I bet the Fjordings West site. Please keep me posted if you find the supplier. Also, if anyone is looking for Valentine's items for their Horse Lovers, ride on over to www.fjordpony.com AND eBay where I have some items. eBay Merchant id: bauerplus Also #2: I am beginning an eZine for Fjord youngsters to be listed. It is a newsletter that will be going to the mailing list once a month. When I say mailing list it is those folks who receive my eZines. (Not this list, per say) The unique part is that the connection for these youngsters (Born 2001 & 2002) is directly to the Seller's email & phone number. Buyers will not "go through me" but can immediately write you. The Introductory Fee for this type of advertising is $30.00 per year. (12 issues - for details write me directly, please.) Over the years, I have noticed the Youngsters are harder to find the right buyers. Most of the folks who write me through my site are looking for rideable Fjords. So here is a way I can help more efficiently with youngsters. Hope everyone is having a great New Year & Yes Koodo's to Beth & Sandy and everyone who reaches out to show off this Breed Betsy Bauer Helping those Marketing their Fjords

This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello Fjord List & Friends, We have been very busy arranging for a Fjord gelding to make a trip from BC to ND. Many folks have been s helpful with the adventure of Ben and we wanted to ask if anyone near 100 Mile House in BC has 3 bails of hay that we could purchase. Dave & Dave at Gladstone
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello Friends and Dave Mc. How nice to read your post about driving at the Gladstone Event last weekend. I remember my father talking about his Fjord driving adventures there and saying many of the same accolades rewarding his Fjord's manner of accepting challenges, and their resiliancy after the eventing. Yes, we do seem to take them for granite and posts like yours remind us of how important those years of training are, whether they are young or old, it's all for the best of the breed. Your choice to "call it quits" on a possitive note is also an admirable decision, I commend you. I know the effort and expense it takes to show there and finishing is more important to some, than the consequence to their horses. It's wonderful you took your team to this level and kept reminding folks who watched that Fjord can do the challenge easily and willingly. Hats off to you and Dave H. Sounds like you could use a Park Drag yes, it is still available... Hope everyone is enjoying their Spring and almost Summer... Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com Are you shopping for a Fjord? Let me know, I have many wonderful mares and geldings available now.

This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello All & Oh my G Brian & Ursula... I can see you both now, as my dad also had a few mishaps at Hestdalen, driving to the hospital hand wrapped in towels, drink in the other hand, and U driving "calmly - ya right". Selling Fjords Via Betsy
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List and Particularly those who are selling fjords. I agree with many of you who are torn with selling your fjords. I know it would be hard for me to sell mine who came from Hestdalen... and yes, when I represent those fjords that I market for some of you, I remind buyers that they are not mindless machines. They will play the "Who's the Boss" game, and apply their personalities to their actions. Hopefully after the bonding period, the partnership of the new owner and your fjord becomes a win- win situation. Many of my sellers have mentioned that the folks buying their fjord are S nice. Also, I would like to say that when I respond to buyers, I include prices so for those who are in the $1,000. price range, I can head them off for you and not waste your time. Some of you haven't mentioned price and choose to "field" all your own inquiries. Either way it helps to have a neutral person in-between you and the seller to find out information and give a little boost to your sale. After all, I know you'd rather be outside working with your fjords. Again my services are available to you for a 6% finder's fee. Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com 559-645-4111 9 -9 PST

So let me know where you are and what type of fjord you are interested in. KIDS, check out my new Kid's Corner on the Message Board and write me. We'll have an area for kid's experiences with their fjords, camps, and fun things to do with your fjord. Does anyone know Lierin Jones? Please write me so you can be a part of my Kid's Club - OK? Also, parents - if you would rather your child's internet identity be less visible - write me and I will direct any information through me. Fjord Leather Jewelry - Notecards - Fjord Xing Signs* and Stained Glass also coming. * Recently while shipping signs to Canada, I discovered the duty Canada places on products imported via USP is more than the signs cost... Brokerage Fee and Govt Charges, Entry Prep Fee, Disbursement Fee and COD Surcharge Plus, they DON'T warn you that this is going to happen. So if you Canadians are ordering products from outside your country, be aware of this problem and ask... With the interest in fjords this Spring, I have inquiries from Alaska, New England, N.C., TX where I don't know of fjords for sale... if you are selling from those areas please email me maybe I can help. Betsy Bauer and Abbey in CA. - heading to our first Hunter Pace cross country event this Saturday. This weekend I get to ride also. =) 18" fences our speed

Safety tying fjords

Sort of a cheap and > available "quick release". Yes, this is a practice of the Pony Clubs also. They teach the kids to use a small circle of twine to tie to the horse trailers while at the mounted meetings. They are in favor of the quick release and to allow the horse to go free, not causing problems for the horse or the children. Keep extra twine handy. Also the pull apart halter releases the horse. I also wanted to encourage any of your who have fjords for sale to contact me. Spring will be coming soon - the best time of year to sell your fjords. Carriage shopping for Ernie...
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List and Welcome/Hello Ernie I came across an interesting site regarding carriages. http://www.carriagemart.com I do believe I saw a Bird in Hand there. Perhaps it will work out for you and others who either want to purchase or just see all the different styles of carriage. Any one interested in a magnificent authentic Park Drag? E-me... Abbey has been making great progress with her fjord, Hakar, and jumping. They passed the D2 rating of Pony Club. To better feel the sport of jumping she began her jumping lessons on a schooling horse (not a fjord sorry to say) and then couldn't wait to try it on Hakar. Saturday, she jumped with alittle more confidence but Hakar really would rather go for it and really jump. Abbey pulls him back because she isn't quite convinced. So he ends up walking over or hopping. We all know the process is gradual, just thankful that she has the right pony to care for her as she rides. How everyone's week is a little warmer... Felix Off-spring
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, I really enjoyed the story about Felix and the chain saw. I would like to know if anyone on the List has a Felix off-spring. or a Felix picture to email me. I am representing a breeder who is selling a mare in foal to Felix. Would like to research his traits. He definately passes the chain saw test! Another breeder I work with took her "after Christmas" balloons down to the barn to introduce to her fjords. Wonderful idea to keep things like this in front of younger fjords. Betsy www.fjordpony.com

Take Care Susan & Richard
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Good luck Susan and Richard. By now the surgery may be over and the work begins. My father had this surgery twice. The first time (6) his heart had made other veins also. A way that our bodies work at doing the right thing. The trick to healing is walking - no matter how uncomfortable. So Sue make a walking chart and each day go further. Even if you have to go to the mall to get in enough laps. Then, my dad lasted an amazing 16 yrs after the first surgery - changed his eatting habits, and bred many more wonderful fjords. Won't mention tipping over his backhoe while "helping" the workmen dig the lake at Hestdalen. And still he kept going - just like the energizer bunny. Hang in there Richard! Info on King Harald - via Betsy
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, I have checked the Pedigree / Breeding Book that my father used and it shows King Harald 101-A foaled 4/23/64. The first listing of breeding information was to Dagmar in 1970. I know my father began his fjord interest in 1967 so I'm wondering if he may have purchased K.H. as a youngster. no breeder is listed on his pedigree. :-( Perhaps this helps in the search for "birthfather" information If anyone else has any questions that I can help with in this regard please let me know Our Fjord report is that Abbey and Hakar completed the Pony Club jumping lesson and walked over the ominous jumps that weren't "x's" room for improvement... and courage for Abbey. Fjord Size & Kids
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, I have to jump in here with a comment regarding the fjords being Kid appropriate. As many of you have witnessed, my daughter Abbey and our fjord, Hakar 13.3h from Hestdalen are a perfect pair Size and training are the key as well as the everyday learning of owning / riding a fjord. As important the fjord's training is training the child about being around these animals. We'll all agree of that importance. The SPACE in which we ride is also critical. When Abbey started riding at birth, I began with her in front of me then behind me (say at 2 yro) then Dad would pony her behind the golf cart - riding Knute, the retired gelding at the farm. Then, here in CA ( 4-6 yrs) in the round pen and simply walking behind me as we all know the fjords will follow us - left & right at this point Hakar was 10-12yrs. The space is important so a situation doesn't occur where the safety is compromised and the child can learn how to handle different equine situations. Then the SPACE becomes larger and the skill develops and a rider is born. Abbey, as seen at Turlock, handles Hakar wonderfully and is strong enough (at 84#) to stop, turn and impose her will on him. If a 60# child is on a 14.3+ fjord with little or no training - then we've set up a mishap Let's keep them on size related fjords, in spaces that are safe for their riding ability and make riding a sport they can grow to enjoy. Remember, if you are looking for an appropriate fjord, visit www.fjordpony.com and I'll help to connect you. Betsy Bauer

Dinner Friday At Turlock
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi List and Turlock go'ers I received a call this morning from Sami - the official Turlock Woman - and she said dinner on Friday will be at the show grounds as a "Get together" for all. So no need to meet elsewhere. She also said that Saturday night's buffet and meeting will address fjord issues and interests and is open to "all serious fjord people". We may want to find something for the kids to do. Is anyone bring their TV-VCR for fjord video watching? If we brought our fjord videos the kids could watch. Yes, Brigid - glad you are enjoying Rafeal and Thomas - life is grand ridin a fjord. See you soon. Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com
Going to Turlock
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List and Brigid, In response to those going to Turlock - my daughter and I are going. Will look forward to meeting you. My daughter is already loosing sleep over all the details and excitement for her. She'll ride both out fjords and have a full day in the ring - right where she loves to be. Anyone interested in a PotLuck or group dinner on Friday? I think Saturday night (at least last year) Sami provides a dinner at the fairgounds I know she isn't Internet linked - does anyone know...? Maybe we could gather at a Denny's, etc. Staying tuned - See you at the gate to the ring. Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com P.S. Good Job Laurie!
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, In reading the enthusiastic Libby posts, I just wanted to say that I think Laurie did a great job being the show photographer. She internalized each shot from a rider's / driver's perspective and just when she'd want to get that "best shot" Judge Jim would have them walk urgh. If I missed connecting with some of you, sorry I was "center ring" but I love detail work and Laurie was fun to work with. Yes, agree about Gayle and Dusty's performance - my daughter went to school today with the video to show her 3rd grade class the Beauty of Fjords from Libby. I hope she doesn't try those stops with Hakar at Turlock. The show seasons always bring lots of folks looking for fjords... Email me if you have some for sale and I can connect you. Libby Report
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, I wanted to check in with all of you who are wondering how things are going in Libby. BEAUTIFUL The weather is warm, t-shirt (yes, our T-Shirts are being worn) weather. Ideal dry weather. In the ring all the fjords looks very impressive. Gayle Ware did her reining exhibition and Dusty loved showing his stuff. Woodie's fjord won the weight pull. Pulling 1800 lbs. Whow Woodie's fjord digs his toes in and used all his might. Toby had a good performance and his cheering section spurred him on. :-) And one of the exciting wins was for Beth Breyer, (Colorado) who won first and second with two of her fjords in the Single Log Skid with a time of 34.78 + 2. There was many whispers as to whether this beats Brian Jensen's record Brain are you there??? All the List people have been meeting and now we have a few more faces to put to names. Wish you were here??? Signing off from Montana's very stary skies, Betsy Bauer Assistant Gopher for Laurie Pittman, show photographer

ATTENTION: NFHR NA Evaluated Fjord Owners
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello All, The newly formed NFHR Record Book Committee needs your help. This committee, headed by Ursula Jensen, is going to produce an educational publication containing accurate results of all NFHR North American evaluations. Those are: Libby, Mt '94 / Blue Earth, MN 1995 & 1998/ South Strafford, VT 1995 / or Springfield, OR 1998 If your mares, geldings & stallions received one or more of these: Blue Ribbons in Conformation Silver and Gold Medallions of Quality Any ADVANCED Performance Test (English, Western Riding, Driving or Draft) We ask that you take a good photo of your Fjord THIS SUMMER while she/he is in summer fur, in preparation for this info being collected next winter. Form letters will be sent out to everyone who qualifies. You may choose to consider a professional photographer to insure merit of your quality fjord, however, please be sure to have the photographer wave any copyrights. If you take your own photos please keep in mind these ways to insure success. Stand your fjord on level ground. Do not include the handler. Be sure there aren't any strong shadows. Be as close as you can to show the whole SIDE VIEW. Keep the background clean. You may use a telephoto lens however that will need more light. More information will follow with descriptions on how to measure parts of your fjords also. Watch for information in the Fjord publications. If you have immediate questions, please send them to [EMAIL PROTECTED] No need to hurry, we just wanted to give you this intro message so during this summer when the fjords look the best, photos can be taken. A form will come to you later. Thanks for your help. Betsy Bauer and Ursula Jensen The NFHR Record Book Committee
Nice Work Ingrid,

Match making for Fjords
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, Friends, Lynda & Mike, I have been catching up on my reading of the List and wanted to peek in here The subject of fjord matching with buyers is one that is "right up my alley" and I wholeheartedly agree -Lynda and Mike! will really try to do this. When the right people get matched to the >right horse they are both happy. Happy horses & happy people go together >in my book. You are on the right track for sure.- per Mike That is why I take time in working with my inquiries and when introducing fjords to incoming buyers I search for information about both the buyer and the fjord. Many of you know that I'm interested in your fjords personalities, talents, quirks, and your best case scenerio for the new next owner. Plus I see getting interested buyers to your fjords my objective - and true some eager sellers may misrepresent true characteristics. Lynda and others on the list. I would be interested in knowing (to my email) if any of my contacts were in this catagory. To date there are many matched and happy fjords & owners whom I know I've assisted in a responsible "Cyber-farm" manner. I see the sale taking more an information gathering direction with the owners of the fjords representing them since they know them best. And yes, when you speak of Easy Keepers, the operative words are trained and attention to breeding. I'm an "end user" and my fjord GELDINGS are not shod (we work in a sand ring); we feed alfalfa 95% / grain 5%; always outdoors (CA is a luxury - these guys remembering Hestdalen in IL) and when we work them they behave like gentlemen especially Dagmar's son, Hakar :-) With Spring coming and if you are selling a fjord, please contact me so I can help you connect with that perfect family for your fjords. If I don't know you are "out there" I can't include you in the possibilities. When Spring arrives will a Fjord be in your family? Betsy Bauer http://www.fjordpony.com

Stallion Traits
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, I thought I would add my input here with memories of Gjestarson who was one of my father's stallions. He (Gjestarson) was the keeper of the pasture near the back of my parent's home and he "kept" his mares there as he protected them. Many could mistake this protection as overt activity and behavior. When my daughter (then 4 yo) and I rode near this pasture, we would be sure to respect Gjestarson's space as he ran the fence doing his thing. Even my daughter learned to say "Gjestarson, knock it off!" Then he wouldn't bother us anymore. Plus, if we would go into the pasture (she and I) on foot he would RUN up to us, we would repeat the phrase and he would nudge us for a carrot. He produced many beautiful fjords as I'm sure many of you will agree.. As for the mare side of things - anyone interested in 2 - 12 yo imported mares located near Rochester?????? Here's hoping your HAPPY NEW YEAR has a Fjord in it! Betsy Bauer http://www.fjordpony.com [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Nasel Question...
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, Here's a question that I received via my www.fjordpony.com website and thought it would make a good educational topic for we fjord owners. " I have been told that the Fjord horse has an extra nasal passage that makes them breath harder even though there heart rate is normal. Do You know if this is true? Please give me any information that you may have. We own two and often stop them to let them rest because of heavy breathing, but have been told that this just starts the breathing process again? Are they a close breed to the Icelandic horses? Any information that you can give me would be greatly appreciated." Here's hoping your HAPPY NEW YEAR has a Fjord in it! NFA + NFHR
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List - I have heard that this merger may take place and I guess it is going to. However, I haven't received a letter or the Hearld - am I signed up appropriately? I'm sure my father would have enough to say that would cover this entire list (not necessarily all bad) but what is important is that we can work together offering what works for the fjords in America. Nice work BOD & Mike. It's really cold here in Central CA, not as bad as Chicago but I have to remember I moved to CA for sun and warm weather - oh well. Ole and I had a great ride up the dry river bed this week and he thought he was back in Illinois - instead of the usual training in the ring with my daughter, and Hakar {boring. Shipped Semen - Susan G. & Lorie W.
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello List, Some of you may remember that I was asking also about stallion owners who participate in the A.I. procedure for a fjord owner who contacted me from Alabama. Same situation of not wanting to transport their mare long distance. During my information gathering process, I searched for the best way to facilitate this request which came from my website www.fjordpony.com. Immediately I emailed the mare's owners and asked more questions which mare, what pedigree, etc so I wouldn't send them a "wrong match" or my dad would haunt me! for sure Yes, I did hear from breeders who are licensed (and some who may not be) BUT I haven't heard A WORD from the "lady in waiting". So, perhaps that means that their request wasn't authentic or perhaps they are really busy folks. Anyway, I wondered if Susan Giargiari & Lorie Washuta would give the List their account of this procedure. Happy ridin' Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com
Welcome Dolph & Brook; and Y2K input
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Welcome to the group, nice to see you on the list. We made it to Michigan last summer where Abbey went to camp in Lawrence. The colors must be beautiful now! For the group RE: Y2K... I was concerned about this subject and agree that safe and not sorry will be an approach for all of us HOWEVER, my brothers' business is involved with supplying materials to power companies and in talking with them, they commented that the electric companies ARE moving on this problem NOW. Because of hearing this from a inside source I feel better that we are going to "handle" the change. But as Dad would say, take the precautions that you can, think smart and be responsible. Our fjords and our families will appreciate it. Happy Ridin' Betsy Bauer http://www.fjordpony.com

Geldings Wanted
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> As Linda Lottie wrote - "There are many folks out there looking for older, trained horses (gelding or mare) with the steadiness of experience to offer someone new to the world of horses. " I Know many of the people who ask for my help in finding them a fjord ask for trained geldings. Do any of you have some for sale? Of course we are all going to post our love for our geldings - but the tizzie isn't needed because we all know how all but one of us love the breed, the forum, the subjects and the effort brought forward for our questions. Merek threw out all the other posts. So it's not worth post upon post of his problems. Merek, name your price and email me, if you would rather be in your lab than caring for Lars. I have many clients from NY looking for geldings. I remember your account from May, 1998 after Lars performed in 2 parades (in the rain). It may not be worded as "bonded" but perhaps "pride"... " So the leader of the most famous city in the world spent his march looking at the striped tail of a Fjord. We did manage to get a picture or two with him, as I am told he is nervous around horses. But then so was I, shaking hands with him. - The kids are probably still going crazy telling their friends (some the partygoers came from the City themselves)about the pony they rode at the party. And finally, back to the stable, unload Lars, park the trailer, and back home myself. I still don't know how I made it to work on time today. Bye for now, Merek. " Is it time to change your sporting interests? I'm sure your package of Lars and your carriage would be nice for a family or individual who would like to enjoy Lars. ~The End Betsy Bauer www.fjordpony.com

Rasberry Allergy?
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Group, I wondered if any of you had this experience or if the Veternarians on the list would comment. Because of all the rain we've had here in California, one of my Fjords has a pot mark type rash on his face and chest. Not festering, may be rubbing on the face but not on the chest... there are rasberries growing and I'm wondering if he has gotten into them? I'm having our vet out but thought I would ask. Also, they feed wheat/oat hay during the summer and I thought that could have caused the change. Changed back to alphafa immediately then put on fly masks, incase it was caused by them, my dad would have laughed seeing them peering back at us looking that silly. But we will do anything for their ease and comfort, right? Happy ridin' Betsy Bauer www.thesocket.com/~betsyb
Harness Wanted
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Group, I've noticed the information about harness and I helped a lady find a fjord who is now looking for a harness. I think I remember a harness maker on the List? Is there one, or more who are selling harness? I've mentioned Carol's harness. Please email me: [EMAIL PROTECTED] thanks. We have a minor accomplishment to mention... our 14 yr old Fjord and my 7 yr old daughter got their first blue ribbon yesterday. He worked famously even did a Hunter Hack over Cross Bar Fences. The first was in English Enquitation. All who watched were amazed (as usual) in the calm dependable manner of Hakar. The perfect pony... and mother just smiled... ;-) Betsy Bauer
Pony Club, Supplements human & fjord
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi List - Part I, Thanks Alison for keeping me straight, we're learning all the Pony Club details. I'm looking forward to the adventure... via horseback with my daughter. Yes, their safety rules are very nice. Learn the safe way or no way! I find with Fjords though, kids get a false sense of safety because the fjord is so calm. I keep harping on the proper way, "Just because your fjord doesn't kick doesn't mean other horses won't." But there's no better way to introduce the beginner rider. Thanks Amy, I had a nice chat with Woodrow about Smokey and Joe... I'm working on helping him sell them. Hi Mark & Ann - welcome to the list... visit me at http://thesocket.com/~betsyb and we can see about finding you that new next fjord Part II, We, out here in California, have been very interested in the Glucosamine & Chondroitin combination and do take the powder version of "Grand Flex" one teaspoon for adults mixed in OJ or any liquid. Or in pill form I know a man, 52ish who has very bad knees and takes 1200 mg of Gluc / 900 mg Chon / with Vit. C.. It is packaged for horse (Grand Flex), same ingrediants and cost less. Joints and cartilage are replentished by this herb and are mentioned in the book "the Arthritis Cure". I am believing the vitamin experts who say we have to supplement our diets, to feel the best we can. And if a Fjord needs our help that's what we're here for! Ingvild, thanks for the research on that mare. I appreciate your time. Marge, thanks for your educational entry. It's different with Dad gone, isn't it. We can learn as we read and help one another...;-) Sorry you had to go through all the ordeal of the last year. Also, saw the video of the 15 h gelding that is available in Nebraska... He is gorgeous! English / Western / drives like a dream and even lets cats ride too! I guess he got too big for the therapeutic riding school... such a problem. No problem, I'm sure a new next family, or intermediate hunter / jumper is looking for a nice Fjord. Great Content, List! Betsy Bauer http://www.thesocket.com/~betsyb

This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi List, A short and quick reminder if anyone would like to join us at the AOL Fjord chat. Go to Find a Chat, Town Square and find Fjord Chat listed. Double click and you're there. Thursday night, 6pm California time. See you, Betsy Lisa and Bernadine- nice talking with you all on Sunday. We're on a roll! Go Fjords!
First Show, Kids Chat AOL, Amy White.
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi Group, Fjord news from California is that finally I have experienced a dream! The first horse show for my daughter who is 7 and Hakar, her 13.3h, 14yr Fjord (Hestdalen blood). They did famously and for a first show I was so please to begin this chapter of our lives. They placed second, great for motivation and still to work harder to gain the first place ribbon. Hakar was his usual friendly self, even wanted to say hi to the judge in the middle of the ring... oops! Abbey was so excited she wanted to ride in EVERY class... even the Handy Hunter class. Next, we're heading to Pony Club - did you all know that this club isn't for just ponies? Children 8 - 16, learn equestrian and stable management skills including rallies, shows and lots of instruction. Out here in California, it's nice to find equestrian emphasis as opposed to all the western interest. Abbey likes English as her mom did 40+ years ago, but who's counting, right! KIDS on AOL! Don't forget Fjord Chat on Thursday nights, 6 Calfiornia time, in the Town Square of AOL chat, look for Fjord Chat. For Amy White: Has anyone more information about the Fjords that need homes in Nebraska? (Woodrow's?) I had his number but haven't been able to reach him. Happy Ridin' Betsy
Fjord Fun & Pranks
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Welcome Jackie, Jami and Gail R. Gee is it fun to hear from all of you with your excitement about the Fjords. As for me, I own two geldings in the San Joaguin Valley of California... Gail we need to rendezvous My 7 yr old daughter is my student and she has been bitten by the girl and her horse (ponies) bug. She will attend summer camp in Michigan where the equestrian emphasis is strong. Any other campers out there? Our Fjords do also enjoy their pranks... they pull the shank into the paddock and play with it. Their gate is Very enjoyable and for my daughter her fjord (as usual) loves to trot - on & on- & on also good for driving Fjords. I'll help you find one if you want Jackie - it's so nice to hear from you. As a rider, you know the big heartedness that the Fjords have. They are so forgiving & tolerant ask Marge Littleboy (she's a list member and maybe she'll tell us her story) Alison - Hi and thanks for the walking through the grass technique. It is a struggle every day. And I am 5'10" but my Fjord is 14.3 and willfull. But I can't blame him. Ingrid - Whow what cute stories about your guy getting out, hope Lilla doesn't pick up that rowdy behavior :) Julie - What an adventure... to actually go to Norway - shopping... please keep an email journal of your experience so we can appreciate the process. If anyone wants more Fjord Fun, Facts and Fantasies check out: http://thesocket.com/~betsyb Betsy
Into - Betsy Bauer
This message is from: "Betsy Bauer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello Fjord Enthusiasts, As a newbie to the list my name is Betsy Bauer. I want to thank you all (Cynthia and Steve) for such a great idea forming this news group, and to all of you for keeping the content rich. Some of you probably knew my dad, Gene Bauer. Since he passed away, I realized that I could help people find Fjords in their area via the Internet. Also, to help those with one Fjord find buyers, and keep the value of the breed strong. I also am developing Fjord products and would love for you all to visit: www.thesocket.com/~betsyb. I started with a Fjord calendar, Fjord Xing signs and next it will be stationery which many have said they look for. I have two fjords, in California (Fresno), from my dad's herd - Hakar and Ole. My 7 yr old daughter is addicted and well she should be, she's riden since she was 1. Hakar is the perfect match for her and this summer we look forward to the walk/trot classes in our area shows. I of course have riden all my life, started with a Morgan, then TB, did the hunter/jumper routine. They have adjusted well to their California weather (1 year), yes, hot but no problems. We even bought our boys one of those horse balls... if dad saw that he'd give us a ribbing. As for the worming issue, I rotate Pannucur, Zimectrin & Stongis (sorry about the spelling) which is what Susan (from Hestdalen) advised me to do... does that sound good? Their weight was heavy at first and because Hakar was the alpha gelding of the pasture crowd, we put them in a paddock and now they get about 20# of hay per day/per pony. I am still amazed at this breed, they are everything my dad said they would be and now, as an owner, I appreciate their easy care benefits. Also, with having a child around horses, they are so forgiving and seem to know how to be "carefull". Still they try us just like children. Sorry if this is long, next time I'll keep it brief... Happy Ridin' and Happy Easter to Everyone! Betsy
