We are celebrating the arrival of very first foal on April 24th. She is called Bella's Prima. We chose the name Prima as it is Italian for "first one". Birth Announcement - A new Ulend colt!
This message is from: Ronni Taylor Fjord Friends, I have the great pleasure to announce the birth of Torden av Ulend! By Curt Pierce's big grey stallion, Ulend, out of Rhonda Taylor's brown dun White Roses' Miss Thunder (aka Thumper, formerly owned by Amiee Day) Torden is the Norwegian word for "the sound of Thunder" and av is "of", so he is "Thunder of Ulend". Probably an apt name given his big shoulders and long, big-boned legs! Torden will be gelded, and trained as harness mate to his mom. He is a smart, very friendly little guy, who has something to say about everything! Very talkative and curious. Color as yet undertermined - most likely brown dun, like Mom. Re: Another Birth announcement
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] One of the foals born last week was to KFF Julia (daughter of MVF Erlend) by BDF Titian. Some time ago someone on the list was interrested in a foal that combined these two bloodlines. The foal is a colt, right now he looks brown dun but he is beginning to look like he might be gray - like his mom. I will geld him at three months if no-one is interested in him as a stud prospect. The other one is from Marlene, a red dun mare from Blue Raven Farms. It is the most beautiful brown dun filly. I have a website but nothing is on it yet. This message is from: Debbie LeBreton <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Congrats on the new baby. I was hoping that some one could please help me with a problem that I have with my 11 year old fjord mare. She has mucus running out of her nose. Sometimes it is big goobs of it and other times it is runnier. It is like she has a bad cold. It has been going on for a couple of weeks. I have her on vet recommended medicine and herbal medicines but nothing is helping. She is still eating and seems healthy otherwise. I ride her for about ten minutes a day to exercise her lungs. She has 15 acres to run on as well. I have not been giving her any hay to see if that makes a difference. > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: fjordhorse@angus.mystery.com> Subject: RE: Birth announcement> Date: Mon, 12 May 2008 14:02:17 -0700> > This message is from: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>> > Congratulations Kim & Megan on your healthy foal. > > Catherine Lassesen> Hestehaven - "The Horse Garden" > & Hundehaven - "The Dog Heaven"> www.hestehaven.com / [EMAIL PROTECTED]> 1-541-825-3027> Southern Oregon> > > The FjordHorse List archives can be found at:> http://tinyurl.com/rcepw> > _ Turn every day into $1000. Birth Announcement and Mare for Sale
This message is from: "Michele Noonan" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> We are proud to announce WHR Elsker's First Progeny WHR Val. born this monday (4/17) Dam is WHR Tonetta (Netta) adorable filly born in a snowstorm. I missed it. Mom was sleeping with butt to wind at 4:30 AM and at 6AM we had a semi dry foal, nursing, and afterbirth passed. Netta is the best first time mom. We were all over that foal, she even took a nap in our lap . WHR Kyrie born the monday before (4/10) Dam is Tone. Very large filly, kinda reminded me of my friends 10lb baby. She looked like you should throw a saddle on her. Both mares went 12 months. We got to watch this one. IF I had gone to bed I would have missed it. She was standing quiet. then started pacing. Filly was born 15 minutes later. Together they are the team of VALKYRIENorwegian Blond Goddess that carry the slain warriors to heaven (OR something like that) These babies were spoken for already by our daughter and son in law Elsker is doing very well. He placed 3rd in two walk trot classes in an open show and 1st in an equitation class. And We were thrilled because he was calm and quiet the whole show. Then this week, two mares were in heat at the arena and he was a knot head. Oh well, I guess a 4 year old can't be perfect ALL the time. MARE FOR SALE We have a 5 year old, 15 hand (Im not joking) mare for sale. NFHR Registered. Very athletic, not very drafty. Has had 30 days training and is scheduled for the next 30 days in 2 weeks. We will sell her bred to Elsker for a 2007 baby (we are breeding her end of April) for $5000. She is just too dang tall for this 5ft tall girl. Email me for pictures. She has beautiful long long legs! Michele Noonan Stevensville, MT

Is it possible that this filly is a yellow? >> Actually, Plain Dealings Linnea isn't a White (Red x Brown will never gives White, or Yellow for that matter). Based on the lineage she'd most likely be either be a Red or a Brown...though Red x Brown can also give Gray (as long as both parents carry Black...actually Red masks Black so it's possible for the Red to be homozygous for Black...that'd be quite a genotype!). The "new" White filly would, of course, be White because of the dam. No matter how nice a Red stallion is, he'll never be responsible for a White foal! Birth Announcement and an update on our old stallion
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Much to our surprise, We are announcing the arrival of a new little stud colt whose name will beElsker. Out of our mare Opal and our old guy stallion Eric I wanted the name to be Oric, but my family says we can't name him a vacuum cleaner name! Opal bred July 5,6,7 and then came back in and bred July 27,28,29. and our ultrasound done in late October put her due date around 4th of July. And we have a very FAT, healthy big baby. born June 21st Now I do have one interesting question? He is so red! If you dig down into his mane you find the darker dorsal stripe, but everything else on his mane is red and his stripe down his back and tail is red. Is this just baby hair? He's definitely more red than any other foal I've ever had. But there is some dark hair down deep in his mane He's beautiful. Opal's best yet! I knew her and Eric would make a great baby. Eric update. At 22 years old it can be touch and go. We had a great winter with him, his arthritis didn't act up and he gained weight and looked great. Then this spring around breeding time, He started losing weight, and lying around, I assumed it was because his arthritis was acting up. We treated him, and he got worse. We almost lost him. Come to find out, He has an ulcer. We caught it in time, he spent a week at the vet on IV's and ulcer medicine. He is now fine. and slowly gaining weight again. He did manage to breed two mares this season and hopefully will feel up to breeding Opal again. Well, I better go. I'm typing this from our vacation and the family is giving me the " MOM" look Michele Noonan Wild Hair Ranch STevensville, MT

This message is from: Jean Ernest <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Karen, The "yellow dun" in Norway is the Gulblakk or gul Check out my album on Picture trail: http://www.PictureTrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=743898&uid=460539 Or go to http://www.PictureTrail.com and enter "akfjords" in the album search. I suspect that some of the "red dun" (rod blak) Norwegian fjords would be called "Palomino duns" in quarterhorse terms..The "greys" would be called "grullo" or "silver grullo" and the Yellow duns would be called cremello or isabella except that the yellow dun fjords have black skin! Cremellos don'tWhat is a cremello in quarter horse speak might be called a "Kvit" . All of the fjord horse colors, except the Kvit (I think) have at least a fain dorsal stipe and shading or darker color on legs, etc which makes tham duns. In quarterhorse speak perhaps they would be silver dun, yellow duns, palomino duns, pale duns, creme duns, etc. I suggest you go to the NFHR website and look at Dr. Phil Sponenberg's article on Color in Fjords, The article is found in the documents section: "Color in Fjord Horses" by D. Her mother, Sara (who we absolutely adore) has a very wide black stripe down her mane and a dark tail, dark markings on her legs, but not much of a dun stripe down her back. We haven't decided on a name just yet. She will be for sale. So if anyone is interested please contact us! The pictures will be on the web site shortly!! Re: Birth Announcement
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Congratulations to all who have new babies. And good luck to all who are expecting . They are a joy, the waiting ,seeing the birth if we are lucky and the time we spend with them . Our only one here expecting is Emily and we are hoping its a filly ( Taffy and Morna are visiting Blaaman at Hestehaven ) . But as it was said on the list, its easier to part with the colts. Bud and Amy want to keep it if its a filly. Over the past 3 days we have snow, on and off. No accumulation, as its to warm. But right now its like a blizzard out. We need the moisture so I am enjoying it. Its really pretty as long as I don't have to be driving in it. Birth Announcement
This message is from: "fjords" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Super Congradulations. Congradulations on the foals and on owning Celebrity. We had wanted to buy her too. We have 2 of Celebrity's foals here and love them both. We have a full sister to Rex and I think Emma is among the finest fjords I have ever seen. I have been studying and breeding for quite some time now. So please don't geld Rex to quick. I would be surprised if he is red dun. As I know Mohawk has no red in his background, but he sure has the deepest golden colour and dark stripes imaginable. Mohawk is producing absolutely great foals. Congradulations. I can't wait to see a photo. Lauren Sellars at Snowy Mtn Fjords

This message is from: Dean Thomas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mel and Dean Thomas are pleased to announce two new fjord additions. Kisse introduced a terrific big brown dun filly (by Snowy's Mohawk) to the world May 16th. She is very typy but BIG. She came out with the same size legs Mom has, and her legs seem even bigger. Gayle Ware foaled her out for us. She is mellow, cooperative and will be at Libby in September. We are naming her DMT Honey. August 16th, Paradise's Celebrity produced a slightly smaller gelding (by Snowy's Mohawk)(I know, I know, but I think of him that way, because there are too many nice stallions, but not enough terrific geldings). She was not due until September 1, and we 'were not prepared'. Luckily, Celebrity is an awesome mare, and took care of things wonderfully. Celebrity had not completely bagged up, wasn't soft over the hips, and wasn't milking yet. I had just given her the complete checkover at 7:30 pm, and she had it close to 2am. We found them at 5am. Because of the closeness to Libby, I had arranged for a Vet clinic to board her and was taking her there August 24th. Obviously, Celebrity is very capable of handling things by herself. This little guy will be named DMT Rex. It appears to my untutored eye that Rex will be a red dun. He has almost 1/2 of his ear tips very 'bright' red, and so far we can't find any black on him. (except the obvious) If he holds out red, Celebrity will have foaled a grey, several browns and a red. What a wonderful mare. Both mares are phenomenal moms, and Dean is currently riding Kisse and feel she's a great riding mare as well. I can't wait for Celebrity & Rex to be able to ride. Dean & I (due to the recent additions to our fjord world) announce we are selling three of our horses. Quad L's Tori, 5 year old mare, terrifically drive & draft trained, many hours under the saddle, is for sale. She's out of Orianna and by Paradise's Blue Jeans (grey). She is the horse of my heart, and has a great work ethic, but she's too small for this old, fat body. She's only 13.2, maybe 13.3. She doesn't know it, and her body and legs are in proportion. Small, typy, mare. Also, Stillmeadow's Jor is for sale. 6 year old gelding, trained by Gayle for western, has been ridden by several folks english. I think he'd be good pony clubbing, 4-H, or showing. He does love the show ring, but he also loves trail rides, and has saved Dean many times. This new colt(gelding) is also for sale. His legs are long enough that he should mature to well over 14 hands. Celebrity has foaled two blue ribbon evaluation foals, so that tells you she produces great foals. And so far, Rex, is quiet, being imprinted, well-handled, and may be a red dun. Contact Mel or Dean Thomas if you are interested. Tori & Jor will be at Libby, along with Kisse and Honey. Honey may be for sale at Libby. We haven't made that decision yet. See you all in September Mel & Dean Thomas

This message is from: "Jean Gayle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Dianna. Congratulations on another fjord I have Gunnar out of Grabb and he is the fearless type who also prefers to come to you rather than be loved. He does go for the brushing tho and stood patiently waiting yesterday while I did the mare. He knew he was next. They were both loose in the field. Anne Appleby took him trail riding when she had him for training last month and remarked at how calm and willing he was to go through thickets, streams etc all by himself. So Grabb gets some of the credit. I had talked to Cliff's son and learned that Gunnar had been the favorite of the herd. birth announcement
This message is from: "mizgriz" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I sent this in last week but never saw it published on the list so I'm resending it. We had our fifth foal (fourth filly) of the year so far born last week. It was extra special because Dave, my husband actually got to watch a birth for the first time. mom started labor at about 9am on a nice sunny morning and baby Katanka was born at 9:55. We have a picture of her on our website, www.fawncreekfjords.com . We expect two more foals in August. I was thinking of trying olive oil on slightly dry hooves. Does anyone know if that's a good or bad idea? Also, any ideas of where to get the best buy on a logging/draft type harness? It was nice to get the information about Cliff Baltzley. We have a 12 yr. old mare, Anitra (Dragtind daughter, Grabb grand-daughter) who came from his farm. She's one of those very calm and fearless type horses and passes that quality on to her offspring. I've wondered if that came from the Dragtind side or the Grabb side (or both?). I also liked the "how to take a picture of your filly". I have trouble taking pictures of loose horses and getting anything but eyeballs and nostrils. Dianna Fawn Creek Fjordhorses
Birth Announcement!!
This message is from: Wild Flower Fjord Farm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Well after a long wait i am finally happy to say that our mare had another filly. We have missed all the births here at the farm. We got no sign from the mare (no wax) Everything was normal and the next morning at 6:00 a.m. the filly was standing and walking around. We are so glad that she is healthy. We are not sure what we are going to call her just yet but we will post some pictures on our web page when we get a chance. Another thing. I was reading the "Horse and Pony" it a little magazine that runs. I noticed that someone had submitted an article about fjords nice article and beautiful fjords. Congrats!! It's nice to see more and more articles about fjords!! Keep up the good work!! Renee Lafleur Wild Flower Fjord Farm http://www.geocities.com/Fjords2000/Fjords2000.html
