2011 Secret Santa
This message is from: brass-ring-f...@juno.com Just want to add my 2 cents worth. I think this is fun! I have been participating for about 8 years and I have received some very nice Fjord items. Some people make them themselves and they are very talented. I have a welcome sign on my porch sporting a Fjord, a lovely tile of a Fjord cavorting with children, a coo glass block lamp with my own horse on it, 2 colorful caps with Fjords drawn on them and many other special items. One year someone went to the trouble of making homemade Fjord cookies - for the horses. I just want to say it is a very creative group. I hope I have given as well as I have received; I always enjoy picking out horsie things. Anyway, it is a very enjoyable part of the holidays for me. Thank you Secret Santa! It's me...Kay V.
This message is from: jadeb...@aol.com Dear SS! I LOVE my new Fjord tee! The Fjords on it are adorable...especially the baby! And I love the idea of "Fjords Worldwide!" It's great that a bunch of folks from many different countries can be united by a single passion - in this case, love of our talented and loveable blond horses. Looking at the shirt also reminds me that, even though it does NOT feel like it right now, summer WILL be back so I've hung it where I can see it as I layer-up every morning in my Arctic attire. Those who voluntered for an international assignment were matched as much as possible to receive an international gift/s in return. I think it only fair. I hope everyone enjoys doing Secret Santa this year. We had participants from the US, Canada, England, and Austrailia. Those who are on the receiving end internationally may expect to see some delay since we got started a little late this year. This message is from: jadeb...@aol.com Hi Cynthia! Here's my 2010 info (much like my 2009 info). Kay Van Natta Yellow Pony Farm 11352 Ely Road Davisburg MI 48350-1700 248-634-9008 I love Fjordie t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts jewelry, and art of all kinds. I wear size large in the afore-mentioned shirts. Braveheart and Bogie love horse treats of any kind and people treats of many kinds (especially Circus Peanuts...you know - those big, cheap, orange colored, peanut shaped, banana flavored, marshmallow candies that can be found at TSC and most truck stops). They also love Rice Krispies Treats but those aren't so cheap! And yes, I'd take an overseas Fjord lover. This message is from: jadeb...@aol.com Dear S. Santa! My presents arrived yesterday and I just love them. I was really hoping for the baseball cap with the new logo! I wore it all yesterday afternoon while finishing up my Christmas cards. I would've worn it to the barn this morning to show Braveheart and Bogie, but it's 8degreesF with 40 MPH winds outside so maybe I'll do that later. I love the tote too! It would be a great grooming bag and a pretty good overnighter too. Right now it's hanging in my den being a Christmas decoration. Thanks a million! Kay P.S. Who are you anyway? Sydney will especially like the purple grooming tools! I'm glad to hear that everything arrived safely. I'd hoped that the grooming tools would come in handy; those thick Fjord manes and tails tend to be rather hard on grooming equipment. > How are those neat ornaments done? It looks like photos in color on > slag glass, very neat. The fused glass ornaments are made using a special type of printer paper. I convert photos to black-&-white, then print them out with a laser printer (one that has a high percentage of ferrous material in the toner; mine's a cheap HP LaserJet). Then I trim the photos down and soak them briefly in water until the layers of the paper begin to separate. Next, I carefully slide the transparent layer with the photo on it off of the other layer and onto a piece of fusing glass (one or more layers) that I've cut to the desired size and shape. The whole thing then goes in the kiln for fusing, which takes about 8-9 hours in total, including the controlled cool-down from the peak temperature of around 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. During the firing process, the paper and non-ferrous toner components burn away, leaving behind the ferrous content, which oxides and fuses with the glass to create the sepia-toned image. It's a neat technique, though it took some trial & error to get it right. My first attempt using a Samsung printer was a total loss - Samsung toner apparently contains *no* ferrous content and the photos vanished completely during firing! The other, non-photo, ornament (or cabochon to use on a necklace; it can be used for either purpose) is also fused glass, only in that case, the Fjord head is sheet copper which I hand embossed, using another photo of my Fjord as the template. > And lots of videos of Fjords and driving to watch! I hope the DVDs make the task pass enjoyably. > The photos of your Fjord in Xmas garb are priceless. They're both pretty good sports about letting me do silly things to them. Dawna tolerates it; Donnie loves it because, hey, it's attention! Secret Santa gifts
This message is from: Starfire Farm To Liz from the UK (I'm still trying to decipher your last name!) Thank you, Secret Santa, for your wonder gifts! The "care package" of UK goodies is fantastic. I especially enjoyed perusing the British Horse magazines and was thrilled to see photos of Fjords in action. Especially the photo of Mr. West driving his tandem of Fjords. The dish with the photo of the Fjord hitched to the mail coach is wonderful! The lovely Redstreake prints arrived also. Thank you so very much! And...we LOVE the kitty Xmas card! You've gotta see it!...but we're NOT kissing under his mistletoe either! ;-) Happy New Year to Liz and to all of our Fjord Friends out there. Re: Secret Santa Thanks
This message is from: Ronni Taylor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Secret Santa Thanks : R.Taylor, Straw Hat Stables I was VERY GOOD this year - the package said, "Don't Open Until Christmas", and I DID NOT OPEN IT!!! (A very rare thing for me!) My "Secret Santas" did not include a note BUT - I got red and green M&M's that had "Rune and Catherine Lassesen" and "Hestehaven" printed on them. How cool is that? I received the most awesome "cowboy" rope halter and lead rope - in a bright yellow and blue pattern that even I can't lose in the snow (or mud this December so far!) The Farrier also sends his "Thanks" for the sturdy halter now in use on Thumper. AND I also got a beautiful pale blue, soft as mink sweatshirt with a Fjord drawing and "Hestehaven" lettered in white - that I've had to keep my Mom from snitching (she's tried TWICE already, and it isn't evem New Year's yet!) So, to my Secret Santas - Catherine and Rune - Thank you very much for the wonderful, useful gifts! Sincerely, Rhonda Taylor Tired of spam? Yahoo! Re: Thank You Secret Santa Amy Evers
This message is from: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Amy, Thanks so much for the wonderful gifts. Last week I was looking at a website with those cute little rubber fjords made into ornaments and was lamenting that I hadn't gotten one for the tree, especially since I have an Icelandic horse ornament and I didn't want Tyra to feel left out. My tree's still up so I hung it right in the front. Tyra will really appreciate the professional Fiskar mane scissors (I won't mention what I've been using). I've been giving her clicker training lessons to hold her head still for trimming, so she should be good to go! Maybe now Tyra won't be embarrassed if I send in photos of her! Thank You Secret Santa Sue!
This message is from: "Karen McCarthy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I just recently recieved my present from Sue Sorger, my secret santa! Thank you Sue, it was a really wonderful mix of goodies, I especially like the handmade wooden fjord tree ornament, and of course the ponies are all drooling over the horse cookies. Your card was beautiful, and I will treasure it all. (I tried calling you personally to thank you, but the number listed on the card you enclosed does not work). And speaking of stuff not working, we now have 10" of white stuff here, and the power/phone has been on/off for 2 days now. Yesterday, at 6pm New Years Eve, the power co. guys came to fix the line, just as we drove off to dinner with friends. Came home & went to bed 'bye 10pm (party poopers!) Well, maybe we didn't have a party, but the horses did! Appears the power co. people left Sven's gate open to the street, and he tiptoed past our house down to the barn, where he whooped it up w/ alot of his kids, then he apparently opened the gate to the gelding pasture, for more revellers. Aside from the barn floor showing a few "deposits" on it, the haystack was intact, and mlore importantly, no one got bit or kicked. Happy New Years...as I write this, Sven is out snoozing next to his run in shed, what a night! Again thanks Sue for such a cool present, and thanks to you too Cynthia, for being the Head Elf. To all on this List, I wish a healthful, peaceful and prosperous New Near! Karen McCarthyGreat Basin Fjords :: Carson City, Nevadahttp://www.picturetrail.com/weegees

re: Secret Santa / Gift Swap for this year?
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] "...Are you on the right list??? I believe the S S is on the CDL??? However, might be others..." Yep, Jerry - am on the right list. :-) *Many* list on the net have a SS each year. I hosted the SS for the PapFriends list last year, and was a participant on the FjordHorse list's SS. :-) "...the Fjordhorse list has had "Secret Santa" also..Cynthia Madden headed it up last year I think..." Yep, I do believe she was the host for the SS here, last year. She did a great job! "...that would be awsome to ahve it! How would we do it though?..." First - someone volunteers and is approved the list owner to host the SS. At least - that's how it's been done on other lists, so am geussing same here. ;-)Then the host posts a guidelines to the list. The list members send (usually a private email, not to the list) their information to the host. At the deadline for entries date, the host then matches up all who sent in an entry, to another list member. Works out that each "giver" is then a "receiver" - so no one gets left out. When I hosted the PapFriends SS last year - we had one odd member, so I sent out two gifts, so that person was not left out. Sometimes the SS person chooses to stay annonimous - sometimes it's a fun geussing game to see if one recognizes the clues of who their SS was. Varies from list SS to list SS. That's about all there is to it - LOTS of fun!

Brigid's secret santa
This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi All- There was a bit of a mishap in receiving my gift this year. Evidently the postal carrier stuck a notice in my gang box (those tiny ones that come with apartments), did not attempt to redeliver, and did not drop the parcel at the office which is the usual procedure. I wasn't about to stand in line at the post office the days before Christmas, so I waited till after. Fortunately, there was my parcel. It was worth the wait. Pat Wilson of Utah had an artist paint my Tommes on a river rock. She used the memorial photo from my web site. I couldn't wait to see it, and opened the box in the car in the post office parking lot. I couldn't believe how she captured his essence, having never met him. It was beyond beautiful I sat there in the car and cried till someone wanted my parking place and honked ;-) Thank you, thank you! / )_~ /L/L Brigid Wasson SF Bay Area, CA www.Brigid.Clickryder.com
