Why would you store information in actionscript files? It would seem better to use a data source like XML for localization data rather than keep information in an Actionscript file. RE: [flexcoders] Evaluating a Boolean String Expression
Separate out the (, ), |,not etc. by splitting the string up based on what you find. You could add some logic to split the string into an array from where those characters are found and look to the values to the left if an OR (||) is found, for example. Then put that logic into a function like below: (Add in your complex logic to a function like this:) /** * Converts a string representation of a boolean to a true boolean value. * For example, it will convert TRUE, False, true, TruE, f, or T to a real boolean (true or false). * The input string is not case-sensitive. Acceptable arguments are the word true or false, or the letter t or f. * @param value the string to convert to a boolean. * @return representation of the string as a true boolean value. **/ public static function stringToBoolean(value:String):Boolean { var boolean:Boolean = false; if (value.toLowerCase() == true) boolean = true; if (value.toLowerCase() == t) boolean = true; return boolean; } No small task though. RE: [flexcoders] Re: Flex alternatives
The problem isn't even that large companies are in bed with Microsoft (that is a problem), but it's that they have many many existing legacy enterprise apps that only work or have only been tested to work in IE, and those systems need to be supported and in place for years to come. But, since we can't count on that lasting, and even Adobe is telling developers to plan on moving to HTML5, it seems like they're pushing us back into x-browser hell. I didn't want to go there, which is why we chose ZKoss. Yes, there is still going to be HTML/JS/CSS ultimately used, but it's how much. Even Flex SWFs are wrapped in HTML and JS when deployed. So, it's not that I'm against using any amount of HTML/JS; it's how little can I get away with to avoid these issues. Even with HTML5 libraries, such as the much touted jQuery, is, to a large degree, an insulator against x-browser issues. If you read the actual jQuery code, it deals with those issues for you. Now, ZK has a ZK Client JS library, which includes jQuery, that is designed to be a communicator mechanism between the client and the bulk of app logic that resides on the server. So, your normal editing and data manipulation that you might write in JS in a full blown HTML5 app is actually stored as Java on the server, and executed as needed per the EDA (event driven architecture). This type of JS is typically what breaks the page on different browsers and versions thereof. By limiting the amount of client-side JS, as does a jQuery type library, yes, you have some exposure to potential x-browser issues, but not as much as a HTML5 app that does everything on the client. And, when there are issues, they can be resolved in the ZK Client library as a patch/fix. So, now it seems to me that developers have several choices. Stick with Flex and you won't break the browser; you just won't be able to have your app viewed by millions on iOS products. If that seems like a better solution that minimal exposure to x-browser issues by using ZK or some other technology, well, that's certainly a choice each company has to make. John 2012/1/17 Ron G rgri...@sinclairoil.commailto:rgri...@sinclairoil.com Hi Joaoak: You can make the coupling as tight or loose as you want. Each UI object can have a client side widget that is primarily the appearance, and a server side component that should contain the more complex logic. So, you can hide as much as want by placing it in the server side component as Java code, or keep in the client side widget as JS. In fact, since you indicate you are moving to HTML5, ZKoss actually might be a good choice, since it relies heavily on jQuery, which is considered a favorite HTML5 library. The difference is ZK lets you choose where client side logic is stored - as JS on the client or Java on the server. Another type of HTML5 approach won't offer that. Write code with AS3 and output to JS. There are quite a lot of Flex apps out there ( especially in the corprate world ). Given that adobe has given up on Flex ( which means they wont have any premium support ) these guys will be looking for a solution that can work as good as their current applications. Ofcourse, the big players ( especially in the financial industry ) are going to be slow to move. They wont change something just because Adobe wont support it quite in the future. They would be looking to change. This is the point where the Apache Flex community needs to catch up on. Flex is currently the biggest load on a ship called Flash Player Runtime. There is a significantly large hole in this ship. That would not have been the case, if Adobe had not shot itself in the foot, but that is a different topic altogether. To accommodate the Flex community, Adobe gets nothing in return for its expenditure of time and money in designing, developing, testing the features the Flex community requires now and in the future. It also means that, by supporting Flex in their runtime, the Flashplayer has an unnecessarily larger footprint than would otherwise be required. So, ask yourself if you truly believe Flex will be a supported product by Adobe in 5-10 years from now. I highly doubt it. On the other hand, I think if a developer uses Flash Pro to develop digital media for their applications, they can probably count on that being around indefinitely. But, not Flex. RE: [flexcoders] Flex to HTML5 Conversion tool?
Check out another possibility - using haXe for converting an MXML/Actionscript project to HTML5/Javascript. The syntax is extremely similar to Actionscript, so you could convert the MXML (via the option with the compiler to save the generated Actionscript from MXML) to haXe code, and the Actionscript too. I found the answer on a blog. Once you find it is pretty easy to fix. Only time I have had something similar happen is when the Flash Player Debugger was either uninstalled or replaced by enterprise software with the regular Flash player. Have you verified the Flash Player Debugger version is installed? I don't know if that's the issue, but something to check. Flash player debug was installed. We figured out what the issue was...the .swf compiled into the Web root and Output folder was not being referenced; the html template php file was referencing a different version of the app, in a different file location. When run/debug was executed, the .swf would stop at breakpoints, which made it extra confusing, although as stated, trace statements were not appearing, and breakpoint 'step over/step into' functionality wasn't working consistently. Once we cleared the cache, we discovered the problem. [flexcoders] flex 3 - resized image dimensions
Hi - I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction with this question which has been killing me. I'm using Flex Builder 3. I've loaded a jpeg into an mx:image control, with proportions constrained and the percentWidth set to 100 e.g.: var thisImg:Image = new Image(); thisImg.src = http://www.hv.com/img/myImage.jpg; thisImg.percentWidth = 100; When the image is first loaded and I check the height/width dimensions, I will correctly get the dimensions of the original jpg image. Say: the original jpg dimensions are 1200x900. My question is how do I get the correct height/width for the image contents when it resizes and scales? e.g. If the app gets smaller, and my jpg resizes down to 900 x 600. When I check thisImg, even though the jpg height has changed to 600, the height of thisImg remains at 900. I've tried checking thisImg.height, thisImg.contentHeight and thisImg.content.height. All the same. They seem to be giving me the height of the mx:image container but what I really want to know is the height of the actual scaled image inside the container. I'm really confused and frustrated, could anybody help me out? Thanks in advance for your kind help!!! jk

[flexcoders] ASDoc and third party libraries
Those of you who use ASDoc from the Flex 3 SDK I'm sure have come across this before. If you use FlashDevelop and ASDoc - then even better as that is my setup (this is actually for a Flash CS3 project, but no matter). How do you handle running ASDoc on a Flash or Flex project where you are also using other third party libraries? If you run ASDoc on a project that uses a third party library like Greensock's TweenLite or Papervision3D, as I am, you can get all kinds of compiler errors because it tries to include those in the documentation as well (since they are imported into your classes), and those are not necessarily set up for ASDoc. I know in FlashDevelop, the Actionscript Documentation Generator has a field for classes to exclude - but it would be impossible to list out all those third party classes - is there a way to exclude an entire package? I have tried various forms of adding -exclude-dependencies but keep getting this error: Error: exclude-dependencies can not be used with doc-sources. And honestly, I'm not even sure how to use that flag correctly (if that's even the right flag at all). I tried adding a class name right after it but it couldn't find the class. Searching online for an hour has done no good. The documentation really stinks for ASDoc and so does the help system you can call with a -help flag. Any ideas? Thanks. Re: [flexcoders] Re: Training Courses
Well training and books are meant for beginners and intermediate users. As you get more advanced its harder to taylor training classes and books to the specific needs of advanced developers. Someone who is a beginner or intermediate typically wants to learn on a very broad topic. Advanced and upper intermediate folks have very very specific things they want to learn (i.e. Programatic Skins)... That said the Certified Adobe classes are very good. The two main classes are great for newbie to intermediate. The styling class is one of my favorite to teach and delves into more complex topics for advanced and intermediate users. All that said if you look through the outlines and you know everything in the material you probably won't get a ton from hands-on training unless you have a great instructor who knows his stuff Hope this helps... One of the requirements was that the images transition to the next with a nice wipe/slide effect. I built up two solutions, both with drawbacks: 1) Used a view stack, added a repeater that added a VBox and Image for each photo to display. I was able to get the appropriate slide/scrolling effect to work by attaching show and hide effects on a VBox that contained the image. This worked really well when there was 10 imgeas. However, when I loaded 200 images...ouch memory management nightmare up to 1 gig of memory being used before crashing. Next solution, I tried something simpler: 2) Used a HorizontalList component and built some code to scroll through all the images. This worked much better from a memory management perspective, however, I've LOST the ability to have the transitions of sliding from one image to the next. My questions: 1) Has anyone seen any code that uses the List (HorizontalList) components for sliding/moving images into the main view area? How do you get the effects to work with moving the itemRenderers around (this doesn't seem possible?) 2) Anyone tried writing a component where there's a main view area, and an area to the left and right where you buffer images off screen for the sake of wiping/sliding them in? Then when you move to the next image, the main image slides left, the left (off-screen image container) is then moved to the right, and he the right image slides into the middle. This is a sort of recycling of components. Seems like a lot of work and would be prone to bugs. I'm open for any other ideas on making a slideshow with these sliding/scrolling transitions. Thanks for any suggestions.

[flexcoders] Flexbuilder 3 Java problems
I'm having Java runtime problems with Flexbuilder 3 again. I swear, I'm so tired of this. I've never had software that kept breaking so much. I've done nothing to Flex (though maybe my company has), and it seems to break every six months or so. So weird. Anyway, the problem is when I try and launch FB3, I get the following message: Could not create the Java virtual machine Then I click the OK button and it quits. So I thought, OK, I'll make sure I have Java installed, that I have the latest installed. Nope, that didn't work (installing Java 6 and putting the newer Java files into FB3's JRE folder) - so I moved the previous ones back into the JRE folder. Right now, the JRE version installed in my C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\jre folder is version 6. So then I thought maybe Java was messed up in my Eclipse folder, but I couldn't find any Java references in there. I see in my Java control panel (windows XP) that I have the following on my system: Platform: 1.6, Product: 1.6.0_14, Path: C:Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe Enabled: true Platform: 1.6, Product: 1.6.0_5, Path: C:Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\javaw.exe Enabled: true Platform: 1.4, Product: 1.4.2_17, Path: C:Program Files\Java\jre1.4.2_17\bin\javaw.exe Enabled: true Any clues on how to fix this? I haven't changed anything that I am aware of. I'm concerned that my enterprise did withouth my knowledge, but I have played with various settings in the ini files for both Flexbuilder and Eclipse and not had any luck, so I reverted back. [flexcoders] Chart font image quality
Hi, I am trying to add some charts to a PDF using AlivePDF. Adding the image to the PDF looks horrible (very fuzzy font). I have tried using the ImageCapture with a high dpi, which looks alot better, but there are still a lot of 'artifacts' around the text in the chart labels. I also tried to use a bitmap font from a Flash swf, but am getting the same noise around the text. Is there anyway to get the image of a chart that is good enough to print without the labels looking like this? Especially when I have 'real' text along side this chart image, the result is very disappointing. I really need a printable report that looks nice. I suppose AlivePDF has nothing to do with it really, it's more of getting a high quality image. Thanks for any suggestions...

[flexcoders] Re: Need help tranforming some XML
Well, so far no responses to this last part of my problem - but thanks very much to those of you who got me this far. I'm 90% there to the solution I need. So I'm moving this last part of my question to Flashcoders... unless someone has any idea how to solve this last part of the problem and can pipe in with an answer: --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, Jason jason.merr...@... wrote: So I am almost there now, this is working, EXCEPT the code only inserts one topic per subtopic, even though there are more row nodes that are tagged to the same subtopic in the same module. The code as I have it now (thanks Ian) is: for each (var contentRowItem2:XML in _contentXML..row) { var moduleName:String = stripSharepointPoundTag(contentRowItem2.Module); var topicXML:XML = new XML(topic /); topicx...@title = contentRowItem2.LinkTitle; topicx...@author = stripSharepointPoundTag(contentRowItem2.Author); topicXML.overview = new XML(overview /); topicXML.overview = contentRowItem2.Overview; var modulesList:XMLList = finalXML..module.(@title == moduleName); modulesList[0]..subsection.(@title==contentRowItem2.Subsection).topics = new XML(topics /); if (modulesList.length()!= 1) throw new Error(Can't find single module with title:+moduleName); var topicsList:XMLList = modulesList[0]..subsection.(@title==contentRowItem2.Subsection).topics; if (topicsList.length()!=1) throw new Error(Can't find single subsection with title:+contentRowItem.Subsection); topicsList[0].appendChild(topicXML); } This produces this: xml modules module title=iRequire orderID=0 subsections subsection title=Technical Constraints topics topic title=Test Topic 1 author=Markley, Bill OverviewBlah blah blah/Overview /topic /topics /subsection subsection title=Project Information topics topic title=Test Topic 3 author=Merrill, Jason OverviewBlah blah blah and more blah and even more blah/Overview /topic /topics /subsection /subsections /module module title=iDesign orderID=1.00 subsections subsection title=Assumptions topics topic title=Test Topic 15 author=Merrill, Jason OverviewBlah/Overview /topic /topics /subsection /subsections /module module title=iBuild orderID=2.00 subsections ...etc. But only one topic appears in each subsection.topics - the last one found, not all of them found for the module and subsection. ...the line, topicsList[0].appendChild(topicXML); is suspect, but wouldn't appendChild just add a new child, not overwrite the existing child? Oh *sigh* - mind the line breaks. Ian Ian, I didn't insert those line breaks. I wrote this e-mail from Outlook and sent it directly to this list and it looked beautiful on the way out. I was just as disappointed with the way the formatting came out as you apparently were. Jason

[flexcoders] Re: Need help tranforming some XML
I'd include a bit of error checking for those XMLLists... for each (var contentRowItem:XML in _contentXML..row) { var moduleName:String = contentRowItem.Module; var topicXML:XML = new XML(topic /); topicx...@title = contentRowItem.LinkTitle; var modulesList:XMLList=finalXML.module.(@title == moduleName); if (modulesList.length()!=1) throw new Error(Can't find single module with title:+moduleName); var topicsList:XMLList= modulesList[0]..subsection.(@title==contentRowItem.Subsection).topics; if (topicsList.length()!=1) throw new Error(Can't find single subsection with title:+contentRowItem.Subsection); topicsList[0].appendChild(topicXML); } Thanks Ian, that gets me closer, but it doesn't quite work because, I get the error, Can't find single subsection with title:Assumptions - because not every subsection will have one with that title - that topic is only in certain subtopics. The XML it needs to be inserted into looks like this: xml modules module title=iRequire orderID=0 subsections subsection title=Technical Constraints/ subsection title=Project Information/ /subsections /module module title=iDesign orderID=1.00 subsections subsection title=Assumptions/ /subsections /module module title=iBuild orderID=2.00 subsections subsection title=Assumptions/ ...etc. So there are some subsections that have one with a title of Assumtions, but you'll see the first module's subsections doesn't have one. Trying to figure out how to account for that withouth getting null property errors. Any ideas? Thanks, you've given me some good stuff to work with so far! Jason
[flexcoders] Re: Need help tranforming some XML
Wait - I figured out I was not adding in the topics / node. So I am almost there now, this is working, EXCEPT the code only inserts one topic per subtopic, even though there are more row nodes that are tagged to the same subtopic in the same module. If more than one topic belongs to a topics node, it gets overwritten, so only the last one found is inserted. The code as I have it now (thanks Ian) is: for each (var contentRowItem2:XML in _contentXML..row) { var moduleName:String = stripSharepointPoundTag(contentRowItem2.Module); var topicXML:XML = new XML(topic /); topicx...@title = contentRowItem2.LinkTitle; topicx...@author = stripSharepointPoundTag(contentRowItem2.Author); topicXML.overview = new XML(overview /); topicXML.overview = contentRowItem2.Overview; var modulesList:XMLList = finalXML..module.(@title == moduleName); modulesList[0]..subsection.(@title==contentRowItem2.Subsection).topics = new XML(topics /); if (modulesList.length()!= 1) throw new Error(Can't find single module with title:+moduleName); var topicsList:XMLList = modulesList[0]..subsection.(@title==contentRowItem2.Subsection).topics; if (topicsList.length()!=1) throw new Error(Can't find single subsection with title:+contentRowItem.Subsection); topicsList[0].appendChild(topicXML); } This produces this: xml modules module title=iRequire orderID=0 subsections subsection title=Technical Constraints topics topic title=Test Topic 1 author=Markley, Bill OverviewBlah blah blah/Overview /topic /topics /subsection subsection title=Project Information topics topic title=Test Topic 3 author=Merrill, Jason OverviewBlah blah blah and more blah and even more blah/Overview /topic /topics /subsection /subsections /module module title=iDesign orderID=1.00 subsections subsection title=Assumptions topics topic title=Test Topic 15 author=Merrill, Jason OverviewBlah/Overview /topic /topics /subsection /subsections /module module title=iBuild orderID=2.00 subsections ...etc. So the line, topicsList[0].appendChild(topicXML); is suspect, but wouldn't appendChild just add a new child, not overwrite the existing child? I think this is a good quick explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Transfer_Object From an MVC perspective, I think a model class contains information sure, but it can and often does contain methods to run logic on data, to retrieve data, to broadcast that data is ready or changed, etc. A Value Object (VO) or Data Transfer Object (DTO) (two terms for the same thing, I usually call them VOs because you don't always transfer them per se) are simple classes that only contain properties that can be get and/or set. They do not contain methods, constructors, or any other form of logic. They are dumb in a sense, only serving as information repositories. There is good logic in this I think. I use them all the time. And I don't think they are only for moving data around in, they are useful in single session storing of information. So often a model contains references to (say in as a property which could be the VO directly or several in an Array or ArrayCollection) and also may change data within VOs, as well as broadcast when something changes. That's my perspective anyway. [flexcoders] Unloading/stopping sounds from SWFLoader .swf
I'm having a problem getting sounds from .swfs (both AVM1 and AVM2) to stop playing. I am adding these .swfs (loaded with SWFLoader) onto a Canvas in my Flex application. The instance of my SWFLoader is _swfLoader which I add as a child to the _demoCanvas Canvas. Here is what I have tried (my lame attempt at garbage collection): private function hideScreenAnimation():void { _swfLoader.removeEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onSwfLoaded); _swfLoader.removeEventListener(Event.UNLOAD, onSwfUnload); _swfLoader = null; removeChild(_demoCanvas); _demoCanvas = null; SoundMixer.stopAll(); } I can't seem to locate any unload() method for SWFLoader instances or SWFLoader.content. SoundMixer.stopAll() seems to have no effect. Again, these are both AVM1 and AVM2 .swfs which contain sounds. I don't have any control over the AVM1 files, they are produced by someone else using another app (Captivate and Camtasia). The AVM2 .swf is just a simple .swf I made with Flash CS3 and contains a sound on the timeline. Thanks, any help is appreciated. [flexcoders] Questions about Canvas and TitleWindow
I'm creating some components on the fly with Actionscript in an MXML project. 1) For TitleWindow, where can I set the alpha of the surrounding title bar area, or whatever it's called? By default, it looks to be about 20% alpha. 2) For Canvas, how can I set the color? If I create it with code, there is no color property (according to Flexbuilder), but if I use MXML, there is. It inherits from Container, and UIComponent, so I don't understand why with Actionscript's the compiler is giving an error that there is no color property. All I really want is a nice background container of some kind to hold a .swf file - either one of these would see to do the job, if only I could set those properties like I can in MXML. Why do the properties available seem to be inconsistent between MXML and Actionscript? For FB3 you also need to make sure that you have I believe FB 3.0.2 in order to use FP 10 Debug player properly. Less then that and I was getting a ton warnings about not having the debug player. Thanks Mark, I see my version of Flexbuilder is 3.0.1, not 3.0.2! I'll try upgrading! Everyone else, thanks for responding - a lot of you have been recommending I understand there are two different versions of the Flash player - the regular release and the debug version. I'm not sure how I gave the impression I didn't understand that, even from the beginning, I clearly do - especially if you read my original post. Funny, because I titled this thread, Flash player 10 Debug Maybe when Alex called them binaries instead of players and I was confused by that and asked a question about what he meant, that threw some of you off. Sorry! ;) It was just because never heard of the Flash players being called a binaries before - so I didn't know if he was talking about something else entirely. Also, as I stated, I have run the uinstaller and then the installer for the DEBUG version of the player without luck, as I mentioned. So sorry for any confusion, didn't mean to waste your time responding to the wrong question. My problem is that after uninstalling FP10 and re-installing FP10 DEBUG version, FB3 still does not recognize it. I'm going to take Mark's advice and upgrade FB3 and see if that works. Thanks everyone for your help! Jason

The list would greatly compliment (NOT replace) this list if you do e-learning / multimedia training work using Flash platform technologies like Flash, Flex, Captivate, AIR, Camtasia, Articulate, FlashDevelop etc. as well as general e-learning discussions on topics like SCORM, AICC, accessibility Section 508, QTI, using Javascript, XML, evaluation, inspiration, learner theory, etc. - though mostly focused on using the Flash platform for creating e-learning. [flexcoders] reading a simple array dump?
this is my first array dump and i was wondering how to show an item in an alert box I have an httpservice with resultformat to array now how do i alert the first name in the list? [flexcoders] autocomplete difference in array vs httpservice
I've been trying to use this autocomplete http://examples.adobe.com/flex2/exchange/AutoComplete/CustomizeAutoComplete/CustomizeAutoComplete.html and i got it working but httpservice loads a [object Object] on load of the app, and when i clear that out and start typing it works. I just want to use an httpservice and avoid the object object on load it should just be blank on load. it works fine with an ARRAY just trouble when i try to use httpservice like this mx:HTTPService id=autocomplete url=/test.php method=POST showBusyCursor=true requestTimeout=40 fault=defaultFault(event) resultFormat=object/ I've tried to add resultformat to array on httpservice and i get no results. I also tried to use ArrayUtil.toArray(
[flexcoders] Cursors and datagrids
I'm not sure if I'm missing something regarding cursors and datagrids... I'm trying to implement a 'find within datagrid functionality' generically. I had things working doing it the hard way of just looping through the arraycollection and doing a compare for each cell within the datagrid. Then I decided to implement the same thing using cursors, and the fun began. In some cases I'm able to find the object, in others I crash out. I've defined a cursor = dataGrid.dataProvider.createCursor(); looping through with the cursors works, and I'm able to get the correct item for cursor.current. I fail with Error #1009 at internal::findItem() ... ListCollectionView.as:954when I do: dataGrid.selectedItem = cursor.current; Am I missing something? I didn't think I needed to sort anything if I wasn't using any of the find methods on the cursor, but it seems like behind the scenes flex is doing find and failing. At this point I may just go back to looping through arraycollection, but to me, it seems far less elegant than the cursor solution. Thanks, j
[flexcoders] XSLT Processor for AS3?
I've asked this on several lists, and Twitter, never had a single reply yet. Hoping someone here knows. Is there an XSLT parser/processor for Actionscript 3? I would like an Actionscript native one to transform some XML client-side. I have the XSLT file for it already written, which I verified works fine transforming with Javascript and IE browser's DOM, but I'm looking for an Actionscript solution, not Javascript/IE, PHP or anything else. Does this kind of class exist for Actionscript 3? If not, I'm surprised nobody has written one - maybe just too much work? In an ideal world, I am imagining someone has a class (or component) that takes two arguments, an XML string or URL and an XSLT file, and returns the transformed XML in the new format. Anyone know if this thing exists or at least is being worked on by either Adobe or the os community? That uses Javascript still to do the heavy lifting I'm looking for an Actionscript one actually (and the project is actually a Flash CS3 project). this functionality is exposed through AIR's Javascript API. Here's a Javascript method that takes an XML document, an XSL transformation, and returns the result of transforming the document: Thanks anyway though. Jason

[flexcoders] Repeaters and databinding
Simple question. Why does example 1 below work as expected, but example 2 does not (the Pear checkbox is not added)? I thought repeaters, like other components, responded to changes in the dataprovider through databinding. -- EXAMPLE 1 ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8? mx:Application xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml; applicationComplete=init() mx:Script ![CDATA[ [Bindable] private var myData:Array = [{ label:Banana }, { label:Pear }, { label:Orange } ]; ]] /mx:Script mx:Repeater id=myRepeater dataProvider={myData} mx:CheckBox id=checkBox label={myRepeater.currentItem.label} / /mx:Repeater /mx:Application -- EXAMPLE 2 ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8? mx:Application xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml; applicationComplete=init() mx:Script ![CDATA[ [Bindable] private var myData:Array = [ { label:Banana } ]; [Bindable] private var fruit1:Object = new Object(); private function init():void { fruit1.label = Pear; myData.push(fruit1); } ]] /mx:Script mx:Repeater id=myRepeater dataProvider={myData} mx:CheckBox id=checkBox label={myRepeater.currentItem.label} / /mx:Repeater /mx:Application -- How would you handle a situation like in Example 2, where the dataprovider changes after the repeater initally runs (in this case, after the applicationComplete event)? Thanks. Jason Merrill

Ah, duh - I should've thought of that. Perfect, thanks. --- In flexcoders@yahoogroups.com, sunild99 sunilbd...@... wrote: Your myData Array needs to be an ArrayCollection. [flexcoders] Gumbo / Flex 4 release date estimate?
I know there is never an official announcement about release dates from Adobe until right before it happens... I have searched the archives because I know it was mentioned before, but anyone have a good idea/guess when Flexbuilder 4 will be released? Even just your best (somewhat informed) idea of what quarter of 2009 it will be? Budgeting for software for the year is always tough when it comes to stuff like this - we just want to know when to put money aside for this. Thanks! Jason Merrill
