Re: [Flexradio] Corrupted Flexradio
Hi Brian, This could be a database corruption problem. Have you tried using the Factory Defaults button in the Setup menu to reset the database. I would hold off on transmitting until you tried the database reset. I own a Flex-5000A and occasionally I have had to do a reset to Factory Defaults. I also maintain copies of working databases to restore the radio to a previous working configuration after the database reset. 73, Bill NJ1H On 1/1/2016 3:12 PM, br...@eol.co.nz wrote: Hi, This is the firsat problem I have ever had with my 5000A!! Once the radio has transmitted, either for tuning the tuner or a transmission the mouse of the computer no longer works and the computer is effectively locked up. Re: [Flexradio] Transverter for Flex 6300
Mike: I don't know much about the Elacaraft transverters, but I have had experience with DEMI units. I have both their 222 and 1296 units in operation and 2304, 3456 and 10 GHz in a box ready to go up on the mast. I did have the 2304 and 3456 units up on the tower in separate boxes but now I'm ready to put the box up with all three, 2304, 3456 and 10 GHz. I've used the 222 unit quite a bit but I am just beginning to use the 1296 unit. I only made a couple QSOs with it, but it works. It puts out 50 W. The 222 MHz unit can put out 25 W but I have it down to 10 W to drive a brick amp. I have been told that the Elacraft units run fairly hot and I can tell you from receiving stations that have them that they drift. The DEMI units are solid as a rock. DEMI transverters can be had completed or in kit form. Mine were completed. So, that's what I know. I hope this helps. Hope to work you on the bands someday. 73, Bill Tynan, W3XO/5 EM00kd -Original Message- From: FlexRadio [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Mike va3mw Sent: Saturday, August 01, 2015 5:57 PM To: Samuel Strongin Cc: Tom Warren ; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Transverter for Flex 6300 In what way? Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 118, Issue 8
Hi All: I also have a 5K with the V/U module. My 2 meter unit was modified by Flex to reduce its power but make the power output more stable. I don't need the full output because I am driving either a 150 W brick or a M2 1 kW SS amp which requires very little drive. However, I AM upset by all of the birdies. For example, on 222, there is a major birdie just below 222.1, whether the DENI transverter is on or not. I use the 28 MHz transverter port for the 222 and 1296 transverters. I am about to be active, thanks to the help of K0MHC and K5LLL, on 902, 2304. 3456 and 10 GHz using the K3TUF interface board hooked to the FlexWire port for switching transverters, three of which (2304, 3456 and 10 GHz) will be on the rotating mast between the 6 and 2 meter beams. I had ordered a 6300 in hopes of getting rid of the birdies and other unexplained phenomena I find in the 5K, but discovered that it doesn't have the capability that the 5 K has for driving and switching transverters. So I cancelled the order. I would still like to go the 6K series but won't until they have similar transverter driving and switching capabilities as the 5K. At present, I do not work any bands below 50 MHz, so the outstanding HF performance of the 6K series is not factor with me. 73, Bill Tynan, W3XO/5 EM00 -Original Message- From: FlexRadio [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Paul Sent: Saturday, February 28, 2015 7:27 PM To: 'Patrick Greenlee'; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 118, Issue 8 I agree. I have one and am not thrilled with it being devalued but to me it is just a paper loss as I will not likely sell it. Before I would sell cheap I'd keep it as a backup rig. It isn't obsolete irrespective of how any game may have supposedly changed or advertising hyperbole is worded. The 5K is still better than a whole segment of new radios on the market. Re: [Flexradio] Flex 5000A w/earbuds
A couple of separate answers: - Capacitors in series do roll off the lows, but if you pick a cap whose reactance at one octave below the lowest frequency that you wish to be "flat" is equal to the reactance (though you can probably get away with simply using the DC Resistance of the headphones for all practical purposes...) of the phones, the frequency response will be 3 dB down at that frequency but will be back to flat at one octave above the "corner" frequency. So if you assume a lowest desirable frequency of 300 Hz. for communications purpose pick a corner frequency of 150 Hz. - And back in the day (1920's - 1930's) the voice coil of the speaker was used for the filter choke, and if you look at old radio schematics, say in the ARRL Handbook, you will see the headphones in series with the B+ for the amplifier tube. But that went the way of the Dodo when transformers became more readily available. Most high end amplifiers either use a transformer, or in the case of transistor amps have complimentary output devices with B+ and B- supplies so (in theory) there is very little DC at the common point the speaker is connected to. If you do loose one side of the power supply the full tilt boogie voltage of the other supply will be applied to your speaker and you have a good chance of blowing the voice coil.I have literally seen a speaker cabinet catch fire and burn because the amp went into DC. High quality amps have protection circuits to prevent that, but the Certain Vagrant (Cerwin Vega) amp that caused the fire did not because Vega was really cheaply designed. When I plug in a headphone I hear a loud pop (almost to the level it makes me think it'll be blown). I asked once why on earth this is needed, and got the answer that blocking this DC (by transformers or capacitors) would also block the lowest audio frequencies. I simply don't use the headphones output. BTW: I never heard that high end audio required our equipment to run DC through our voice coils. [Flexradio] Flex 500 Transverse Port
I am baffled. Here's what I have: Flex 5K DEMI transverters for 222 and 1296 I have set the offsets for both on the transverter screen - 194 MHz for 222 and 1268 for 1296. All other parameters are the same. For both 222 and 1296. I have been using the 222 transverter with good results. In trying to get the 1296 set up, here is what I find: Without either transverter powered and a 50 Ohm dummy load plugged into the transverter port on the 5K: Selecting 222, noise level is -131 dBm Selecting 1296 noise level is -111 dBm A 20 dB difference Why should they not be the same? Both are a 28 MHz. input. After first making sure that 10 meters was open and I was hearing signals, I plugged the antenna into the transverter port but could hear nothing. Ok, maybe the transverter port has a pretty low sensitivity and needs more RF, as it would get from any transverter. So, then with the dummy load plugged into the transverter port, I tried transmitting while listening on a separate receiver. I heard nothing. Yes, it's only a few milliwatts, but I would think I would be able to rear it. Why should the noise level for the 222 and 1296 selections be different when they are both the same 28 MHz transverter port? Aa I said, all parameters on the transverter screen are set the same, except, of course for the frequency off-sets. Anyone have any ideas? When I first bought my Flex 5000 (2010) turn around on warranty repairs (1 in my case) was less than a week. Flex even sent me a shipping label so there was no expense on my end. I sent my 5000 in for non-warranty repairs in late August, 2014. Turn around was about 4 weeks. Of course, that was end of summer vacation time, included the Labor Day weekend, etc. My only niggle was the emails to say we got it and were sending it back didnt materialize until I called (at about 5 days and 4 weeks of the process). As usual, the people at Flex Radio Systems were kind, courteous and professional. The repairs were extremely reasonable, price wise; in my case, just over $100. The radio is back and working as designed. My only conflict is deciding when up spring for a Signature series radio. [Flexradio] Nothing wrong with my Flex 5000?
My Flex 5000 (2nd RX and ATU about 4 years old) spent the last 3 ½ weeks at the factory for repair (I thought) of the amplifier keying circuit. It worked fine directly connected to my Ameritron ALS-600 at our old QTH. It then spent perhaps 4 months in its factory packing cartons. When I installed it at the new QTH, it would not key the amplifier (tested with same and several other different shielded audio cables). Whenever I connected the radio to the amp, the green operate light came on weakly. As at the old QTH, all equipment in my shack is connected via 1 inch tinned copper braid to a 10 foot ground rod no more than 8 feet away. The amplifier appears to be working fine. When I ground the center pin of the RCA plug, it keys normally. While waiting for the repair, I did buy one of the Ameritron 704 solid state keying buffers. The amp also keys properly through the buffer when the center pin on the to radio cable is grounded. The good folks at flex called to say that they could find nothing wrong with my radio. However, they did strongly recommend using the Ameritron keying buffer device (which I bought in the interim). My question is has anyone ever run into this before? I did talk to Ed at Flex Service. He said that the radio meets all factory specs and that this sometimes happens as solid state devices change. In all respects, the Flex people have been courteous and professional. 73 Bill Roberts ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz To opt out of the Reflector: http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz

I also have virtual audio cable and it too seems to integrate well, but I don't operate digital modes very often. I'm using a relatively high end desktop computer. [Flexradio] Frustrated with VAC, WSJT and Fkex
Yes, I once had WSJT (JT-65A) working, but that was two computers ago. I've even made one six meter ENE contact and been heard by several stations. With W7GJ now at KH8, I'd like to try to work him. But, without WSJY, VAC and Power SDR working together, there's no chance. I do have VAC installed and the latest Released version of WSJT as well as VSP manager. So, I don't need instructions on downloading and installing same. The OLD Knowledge Center article that I printed out a year or two ago, spends a lot of verbiage on downloading and installing these programs. It talks about installing VAC into Power SDR Version 1.14.0. That's how old it is. One of things it says it to make sure that Flex 5000 Firewire device driver is set to the same parameters and Safe Mode 1 is the operating mode. It refers to another Knowledge Center article to explain how to do this. Going to the Flex Website, I find no place to find Knowledge Center articles anymore. Has the Knowledge Center been done away with? I did find a so-called White Paper entitled "LEVERAGING SDR FOR BETTER DIGITAL MODE COMMUNICATIONS". But it is nothing but a sales pitch for software defined radio and VAC. I don't need a sales pitch. I'm already convinced re SDR and have been for years.. What I need is a good up-to-date step-by-step description of what parameters to set into Power SDR, VAC and WSJT. At the moment, I'm getting an ERROR message in WSJT saying "Error in opening audio channels" and some other stuff that says it won't work. I DID have the audio stream running normally an hour or so back, but I've obviously messed it up now. Re: [Flexradio] SDR-1000 to USB
The SDR1000 must operate in 32 bit mode. That was the deciding factor for me in my recent purchase of a 1500. That being said...if your laptop will support virtualization you can download a XP emulator from Microsoft that will run in Win 7 Professional but not home version. I had to do that to support some RF design software that was heavily DOS based, but there seems to be a fairly high latency when running something in the XP shell due I guess to all the converting that the machine is having to do. It was worth the price of the 1500 to not have the whipping of having to operate with "patch work" software. Besides which the 1500 is much a slicker radio. [Flexradio] Shuttle Pros and Power Mates
I've been following the Shuttle pro discussion and have a question. I bought a 1500 at Hamcom and had intended to employ the Power Mate controller I had from earlier radios I have / had. In looking at discussions of the Power Mate on line it seems that there is no working driver for Windows 7 (I have the Pro version). There were some patches / work arounds but they seemed iffy. The Shuttle Pro therefore began to look pretty good but looking at Contour's website their downloadable manual speaks of only XP and Vista. Any thoughts about my installation on my Win 7 Pro machine? Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 108, Issue 22
The secret is to not allow the negative peaks to cut off. The positive peaks can go above 100%. That's not a problem. But, it's the negative peaks cutting off the RF that causes distortion and splatter. My $.02 worth. 73, Bill, W3XO -- From: "Chuck ONeal" Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2014 4:08 PM To: Subject: Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 108, Issue 22 Hi Bill and others, To truly optimize any transmitter for AM, including SDR's, you should employ some form of negative peak limiting to eliminate distortion and clipping due to overmodulation. None of the Hi Fi boxes folks put on their rigs do this since this functionality in not included. Compression will not do it since it's not fast enough. Limiters are symetrical and not multiband which will result in very audible distortion. For reasonable $$, used AM brodacast processor(s) like ones in the CRL or Orban lines will do this. They employ adjustable assymetrical limiting that will prevent overmodulation within the capabilities of the transmitter without adding audible distortion. Additionally, the broadcast processors will add significant audio density to improve intelligibility and give you that "broadcast" sound if you want it. A really good set up would be the CRL SEC-400 Spectral Energy Compressor coupled with the CRP PMC-450 Peak modulation controller. You can get the pair for a few hundred dollars if you look around. The SEC-400 will give you multiband processing, EQ and increased audio density. The PMC-450 will provide precise peak modulation control and additional modulation density. Or you can go with an Orban Optimod 9000A or one of the later versions but they are still pricey since they also work well. All good old analog stuff. You can go really crazy and go for an Omnia One or Orban 9300 but these are contemporary AM broadcast processors and run $3-4$K All the above is probably overkill for an ham rig but it will make you sound like you are running a converted broadcast transmitter and help get rid of that extra $$! Depends on how nuts you want to go. Seems to me that all this processing could be included in the software for SDR's at some point. The new AM processors are all DSP anyway. I am running PSDR 2.7.2 under Windows 7 on a Quad-Core 3.7 GHz Dell system with 12 GB of RAM. I've taken the following measures and find that PSDR is usually rock solid: * All my drivers are up to date including that for the NVidia GT-530 card. * Besides the basic video driver, NVidia has two additional processes (3D and End user experience) it likes to run. I disable them with no ill effects. * I have found it advisable to turn off Norton 360 but make sure to restart it when PSDR has closed. A friend of mine left his off for a week and wound up with the Crypto Locker virus. * Carbonite and other cloud based back-up programs can really tear up Power SDR. I turn them off. * I've also found it advisable to disable the DX Cluster feature of HRD unless I really need it. I have not found that the basic call sign lookup to QRZ causes much disruption. My typical CPU utilization runs between .75 and 6%. I have found that LatencyMon from Resplendence (the free version) is a good tool (in addition to the Flex Radio fire wire driver software) for diagnosing causes of system latency/PSDR audio drop outs as it shows the particular device or program causing spikes. 73 Bill Roberts- K8DXX ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR freezing, VAC issue?
I had two recent software issues that caused me some grief with VAC use while using WSJT-X. One was QRZ.com changed their handling of rapid callsign searches which impacted DXLab's Pathfinder which in turn cause a security warning message to be generated which as a side effect would cause the VAC connection to die. During my troubleshooting of this problem, I upgraded to VAC 4.13 which introduced a transmit VAC problem. I stopped using Pathfinder which cured the receive problem and I reverted to VAC 4.12 which corrected the transmit problem. There is now a new version of Pathfinder that works fine with the QRZ.com change. Boy, side effects are pain. [Flexradio] CW Memories and Keyboard Panel PTT Operation
I operate full duplex satellite operation with my Flex-5000. I have tried to operate full duplex CW using the CW Memories and Keyboard window. Unfortunately, I have no been able to figure out a way to prevent the PTT from releasing at end of each word using the CW Memories window. Has anyone figured out a way to keep the MOX on using the CW Memories? I have been able to operate full duplex using an external CW keying program setup to not release PTT. I use external transverters and amplifiers and wish to avoid all the relay switching with the PTT being activated and released when there is no need for that during full duplex operation. Because of the delays used for relay switching, I have also noticed truncated keying with the CW Memories. I can easily detect this while listening to my downlink while transmitting. 73, Bill NJ1H P.S. I was not sure truncated was applicable to both beginning and ending elements missing. [Flexradio] S Meter minimum
Hi Matthew and Steve, KJ4TN’s message about the S3 noise level minimum on the Flex 3K describes my experience as well. While it varies from band to band a bit, my S Meter never approaches zero, including when the antennas are disconnected or when I am connected directly to the dummy load. Noise level runs around 100. Preamps have a small effect. Sent back to the factory last year for new preamps plus complete checkout and was given assurances every thing was A-OK at that time. Everything else runs perfect! Using PowerSDR v2.7.2. Maybe a calibration or adjustment issue?? Not overly concerned but curious just the same. Thanks! Re: [Flexradio] NVIDIA Video Card?
Thanks guys. Knock on wood, I've probably not seen a BSOD since the days of Windows 98. My uninformed opinion is that the Flex guys have made the new Fire Wire driver a lot more robust in that it puts up with the temporary or perhaps short duration DPC spikes caused by DirectX and NVidia. Problems only occur for me when I forget I've got Carbonite turned on in the background and it decides to upload a few hundred MB of data. Gotta stop doing that. Also noted some crispy Flex audio when Outlook 2013 found new email on the Comcast POP-3 server. Still, it took the lickin' and kept on tickin'. Yay Flex! Re: [Flexradio] PSDR v2.7.2 Instability (TM)
I initially had a smooth install of PSDR 2.7.2. The database import utility worked flawlessly. Like a few others have mentioned, my installation (Flex 5000, dual RX with ATU on a 3.7 GHz quad core running Win 7-64 Pro, 12 GB RAM) starting experiencing audio drop outs. After looking into things, the problem was NOT 2.7.2. I had two issues: * Related to my recent migration from MS Office 2003 to 2013, a non-working Xfinity (Comcast) add-on was causing CPU spikes. I disabled the non-functioning add-on and things returned more or less to normal. * Various NVidia drivers were out-of-date, also causing my graphics card to draw unnecessarily from the CPU, thus causing usage spikes and audio hiccups. An update (going to NVidia site and allowing their install package to do its thing) again returned things to normal. In the process, I found a great DPC latency checker, LatencyMon 6.0 available at http://www.resplendence.com/main This tool will display perhaps the top 3 - 4 programs causing significant latency in your system plus overall DPCs. Since each bar on the graph is tied to a particular device or driver, it gives you an idea where to look first. Right now, my max DPCs are under 400 and typically coast around 100. All is good! Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR-DataTransfer Problem
For whatever it's worth, 2.7.2 and the Data Transfer program went into K8DXX flawlessly. I ran the installation program without a hitch. After reading the HELP file briefly, did the database transfer, again flawlessly. After a brief recalibration of the audio chain, I've had several enjoyable QSOs on multiple bands. On my system (Win 7/64-Pro, 3.7 GHz Quad Core, 12 GB RAM), it seems a lot more stable. no hiccups even when running Carbonite backup (normally a problem). Is it my imagination but the NB/NB2 algorithms work much better. By the end of 2014, I expect to order a 6500, even if some call it a work in progress. [Flexradio] 2.7.2 some sort of change to the RTTY Offset option
The RTTY Offset option was installed to 'fix' a situation where the digital modes cluster spots would be displayed in such a way that a quick click-Cluster Jump would put your passband correctly for decode. Also cluster spots would be correctly placed for other to make a one click jump and be able to decode. Basically it created correlation between logging program, cluster, and digital program. Something seems to have changed in ver. 2.7.2 First thing I noticed was that the new SDR did not correctly Enable the RTTY Offset. I used an Acer Aspire 5720-4126 dual CPU notebook at field day with my Flex-5000 and ran the field day logging software at the same time. I did decrease the sample rate from the normal 192000 to 96000, but that is the same as the Flex-3000 maximum sample rate, I believe. The Acer has a built in firewire port that works fine. I also used an external LCD monitor in conjunction with the screen display for dual displays and all ran fine. The Acer came with Vista installed and that is the OS I ran with all updates installed from Microsoft. I also ran VAC and vspMgr. Perhaps you can find one used. Re: [Flexradio] Microphone Recommendation?
My on air experiments verify Patrick's statements below. I have used standard computer headsets and used the PowerSDR audio shaping to "distort" my signal for signal punch and quality. I got the same "great audio" comments with those mikes as I did with with my Heil BM-10 mike. I have never received a negative comment with any on the mikes. I concur completely with Patrick's last sentence. 73, Bill NJ1H On 10/31/2013 10:13 PM, Patrick Greenlee wrote: Don't you think a good Hi-Fi mike that accurately reproduces the sound field driving it is "all the mike" you need? Once you have an accurate electronic representation of the actual audio you can process/distort it in any way needed/wanted. It isn't required to have a mike distorted in some particular way to get the final distorted audio desired. There is no sound quality reproduced by any microphone that can not, in theory, be electronically manufactured from a starting point of an accurate Hi-Fi representation of the original sound field (operator's voice.) There was a time when shortcomings in what was doable in electronic processing of a microphone signal made selecting microphones with some special distortion built in a necessity to achieve certain desired, for whatever reason, distortions of the true audio input. Back in the olden times when I couldn't afford fancy audio processor equipment to compete with or emulate the DX gurus I'd just tuck a stick in the waist band of my jockey shorts, take it up like a tourniquet about 5-9 revolutions (depending on the desired effect) and then shout into the microphone through a toilet paper tube. On-air comparisons rated my thrifty approach the equivalent of the big guru's RF processors, companders, and compressors. Pay attention to how each of his shapes sound. http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/press/hc6.mp3 I recorded all of my 1600 QSO's from CQWW. I will try to find some great DX audio and some really bad DX audio. It won't be until next week though. When I do, I will share them. [Flexradio] Transverter Operation with Flex 5000
I have be trying interface transverters with my Flex 5K. I started with a DEMI 222 MHz 25 Watt output unit which is set up for 28 MHz from the radio and no more than 10 milliwatts drive. I received a beacon located approximately 70 miles from me very well. However, when I went to check the power output on transmit, I got none. Further checks with an HP 432A power meter showed only - 2 dBm output from the 5K's transverter port. This is, apparently not enough to drive the DEMI transverter. This was with the Drive level on the console set at Max and the power on the transverter screen set at 100. Does anyone know the spec power output for the transverter port? I cannot find it in the manual and previous perusal of the Knowledge Center for transverter interfacing information has revealed little. Thanks very much for any help. 73, Bill Tynan, W3XO ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
[Flexradio] Interfacing VHF/UHF and Microwave Transverters to Flex 5000
HELP! I want to be able to interface 7 transverters to my Flex 5K. I have the following transverters: 1. DEMI 222 MHz 28 MHz input (in shack) 2. DEMI 1296 MHz 28 MHz Input (in shack) 3. Old Microwave Modules 144 MHz 28 MHz input (in shack) 4 DEMI 902 MHz 144 MHz input (in shack) 5 DEMI 2304 MHz 144 MHz Input (on tower) 6 DEMI 3456 MHz 144 MHz input (on tower) 7 DEMI 10 GHz 144 MHz Input (to be on tower in the future) I have come up with a switching scheme which utilizes a 6 Position 3 Deck switch. Position 1 Deck 1 goes to the coil of a coax relay which connects the 5K 28 MHz transverter output to the 222 MHz transverter. Deck 2 is Open. Deck 3 connects the Yellow PTT line on the Flex 5K to the 222 MHz PTT input. The Red and White PTT lines are in use to key 6 and 2 meter amps.) Position 2 Deck 1 goes to a the coil of a coax relay which connects the 5K 28 MHz transverter output to the 1296 MHz transverter. Deck 2 is Open. Deck 3 connects the Yellow PTT line on the Flex 5K to the PTT input on the 1296 MHz transverter. Positions 3, 4, 5, and 6 of Deck 1 go to the coil of a coax relay which connects the 5K 28 MHz transverter output to the Microwave Modules 144 MHz transverter. Deck 2 goes to a coax relay which connects the output of the 144 Microwave Module transverter to the 902 MHz transverter. Deck 3 connects the Yellow PTT line on the Flex 5K to the PTT input on the Microwave Modules 144 MHz MHz transverter. Position 4 (Deck 1 See Above) Deck 2 goes to a coax relay which connects the output of the 144 Microwave Module transverter to the 2304 MHz transverter. Deck 3 connects the Yellow PTT line on the Flex 5K to the PTT input on the Microwave Modules 144 MHz MHz transverter. Position 5 (Deck 1 See Above) Deck 2 goes to a coax relay which connects the output of the 144 Microwave Module transverter to the 3456 MHz transverter. Deck 3 connects the Yellow PTT line on the Flex 5K to the PTT input on the Microwave Modules 144 MHz MHz transverter. Position 6 (Deck 1 See Above) Deck 2 goes to a coax relay which connects the output of the 144 Microwave Module transverter to the 10 GHz transverter. Deck 3 connects the Yellow PTT line on the Flex 5K to the PTT input on the Microwave Modules 144 MHz MHz transverter. Note: The 902, 2304 and 3456 MHz transverters are RF switched. Haven't thought about the 10 GHz unit yet. Unless I have forgotten something, the above should work. It will require moving the switch every time I want to change bands. The switch can, of course be mounted at the operating position. All of the transverters will be in another room. But, it would be nice if I could delete the switch and wonder if there is some signal I can get out of the Flex 5K that I could use to automatically do the job of switching the various relay coils. I had hoped that the Flexwire connector would be of some help, it does not appear to be. Am I missing something? Any help and/or suggestions would be most welcome. 73, Bill Tynan, W3XO ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] Flex-5000A ECOs?
Way back in the OLD days, before World War II, an ECO was an electron coupled oscillator, the then popular circuit for a VFO. Everybody was putting in ECOs so that they weren't stuck on a few frequencies, depending on how many crystals they had. 73, Bill Tynan, W3XO -- From: "Robert Costa" Sent: Thursday, October 10, 2013 10:46 AM To: "Ken Alexander" ; Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Flex-5000A ECOs? [Flexradio] Flex-5000A ECOs?
I saw this question asked two days ago with no response. The email subject was not changed to reflect the question, but it was asked with no response to the reflector. I like to repair my own equipment. I asked this question of Flex-Radio months ago. I was told ECOs are not available outside the company for the Flex 5000A. I was not happy about this, but I got an answer. Now that the Flex-5000 is no longer manufactured, perhaps the ECOs can be released. Anyone from Flex-Radio have a response? 73, Bill NJ1H ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] Flex-5000 "PA Info" Display Bug During Satellite Operation?
Dudley, Using XVTR ports. Flex PA not in play. I have only seen this during my full duplex operation with transmit on. I hear my downlink and no drop outs. Both TX and RX frequencies being updated. I have the RX2 in my Flex-5000. It is enabled. Split operation is being use with TX on VFO B. CPU use is less than 40%. System is Intel quad CPU Q8200 running Win 7 Pro x64 with all updates . FlexRadio utility reports majority of DPCs less than 100 us, about 114000 reports. PA Info error seen numerous times with FlexRadio running. Max DPC is less than 300 usec, 2 reports; less than 200 usec, 6 reports during a sample run with numerous PA Info errors seen. I have not noticed this during the years of operation in simplex mode with or without transverters. Of course, all that operation is without realtime doppler correction occuring in full duplex mode. 73, Bill CPU usage is less than On 9/29/2013 8:27 PM, FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry wrote: Bill, Are you having to run the PA to drive the transverter? The Temp: will read very unusual temperatures, i.e. 572, intermittently for a moment. Values change, but seem to be repetitive. I have seen large negative F values also. The Voltage: also reads 0 briefly sometimes. The radio appears to function normally when this occurs. This occurs even if the TX Drive is set to 0.
