[Flexradio] DDUtil madness

2016-03-28 Thread Jeff Brown
Not sure it DDUtil is broken or the newest version of HRD is broken, or maybe
it's just my computer. I can't get the HRD server working correctly. I power
up PowerSDR. Then I start DDUtil. I connects just fine. I have HRD 6.2
selected and the box enabled. I previously setup the HRD rig control to
connect to Flex using PowerSDR and the correct port. It connects just fine and
works as it should. It can then connect to logbook and DM780 and they work as
they should. So with PowerSDR and DDUtil running I should just fire up logbook
and DM780. Logbook connects but the radio pane says it's SmartSDR, not
PowerSDR. A warning popup comes on and say "Object reference not set to an
instance of an object. at DDUtil_V3.Setup.GetDropdownTextSstring s)". Logbook
still follows the radio but the popup won't go away unless the program is
closed. I can open DM780 but it also connects as SmartSDR instead. It pops up
a fault as soon as you try to transmit. "Transmit Failed The 9:SMART SDR c
onfiguration does not have a TX button displayed. Press OK to configure the
Radio pane layout." When I select OK I see the interface and it does have a TX
button...just won't work. I've tried uninstall, reinstall several times.
System reboot several times. Verifed that HRD all works correctly stand alone
without DDUtil. I'm pretty much convinced that it has something to do with
starting up the server and the logbook and DM780 identifying as the wrong
software. I tried changing HRD to SmartSDR and connecting. It kinda works but
TX hangs and the rig won't unkey. Obviously not compatible command structure.
Any idea? I hate running HRD rig control as it's redundant...only need the
server. Used to use Minideluxe, but yet another piece of software to run on
top of the others. G. Thanks for any suggestions.

[Flexradio] ddutil issue

2014-11-18 Thread bjdm01
I am having an issue with PSDR and DDUTIL that occurrs every once in a while.
When I activate the auto drive button on ddutil it no longer checks the
transmit box in the antenna panel of PSDR. The only way I can have the amp
operate is to go to the antenna tab and manually check the box. I have tried
reinstalling PSDR and also DDUTIL with no results. Any suggestions?Burke

Hello

Anyone know what is going on with K5FR.COM?
It appears to be down. Which means DDutil can not connect to it.
So DDutil is not working.
I’m just trying to make sure it’s not something in my system.
If DDutil is working ok for you please let me know.

Hello

Anyone know what is going on with K5FR.COM?
It appears to be down. Which means DDutil can not connect to it.
So DDutil is not working.
I’m just trying to make sure it’s not something in my system.
If DDutil is working ok for you please let me know.
thanks

Subject: [DDUtil] Using two Flex computers with DDUtil_V3

I think what I am trying to do is not possible because DDUtil can connect to
only one Flex Legacy computer and only one instance of DDUtil can be
running.

I am using a FLEX-1500 as the transmitter and a FLEX-3000 as the receiver in
a full-duplex amateur satellite system. See The AMSAT Journal, July-August
2013.

I use DDUtil to connect the FLEX-3000 to the DDUtil Legacy CAT. And I
connect SatPC32 Radio 1 for frequency control through RCP1 and to connect
DXLabs Commander Primary CAT VFO A through RCP2.

The FLEX-1500 connects to SatPC32 Radio 2 for frequency control directly
through a virtual serial port.

I would like to connect the FLEX-1500 to both SatPC32 Radio 2 for frequency
control and to DXLabs Commander Secondary CAT VFO B. If I could run two
instances of DDUtil then I could do it.

Is there a work-around for this scheme?

[Flexradio] DDUtil parallel port wont work using Vista Buisness

2013-08-18 Thread Craig Hayhow
I am wanting to use DDUtil to supply band data to my Quadra
DDUtil is talking to my Flex5k but the parallel port on the PC will not
work?
All data pins on the parallel port measure 3.3v and don't change.
If I right click on the DDUtil desktop icon, there is no tab under
properties to run DDUtil in XP Compatibility Mode?
Has any one had success using DDUtil with Vista Business?

I was trying ESC yesterday and RX1 and RX2 would get OUT of sync by several
kHz when I enabled VFO sync. I was trying to categorize the problem but,
even though I could get it to occasionally repeat, I couldn't reproduce the
problem consistently enough to make a bug report. If others are finding
problems with ESC it may be that there is a bug in PowerSDR and not just
stupidity on my part.

Re: [Flexradio] DDUTIL & "VFO Sync" possible bug

2011-10-04 Thread Jim Jannuzzo

Bob, I just spent 15 minutes changing RX1 on VFO A, and RX2 on VFO B, and
watching HRD, the SteppIR, and Expert amp. The antenna and amp always follow
whichever VFO has the TX focus (that is, whichever has the TX light lit next to
the VFO.) HRD always shows the correct VFO A and VFO B. If I synch, either by
using the VFO Synch button between the VFO's, or by pushing the Synch button on
the ESC radar box, everything goes to the VFO A frequency. If the green VFO
Synch button is lit, anytime I move either VFO, both VFO's move together (as
does the ant and amp). If I unSynch by pressing this button, then the ant and
amp follow whichever VFO has the "TX focus", and HRD displays the correct VFO A
abd B frequencies. In short, everything regarding VFO's is working FB. (I've
even tried dabbling in Triplex Receive, but I get dizzy and fall out of my
chair.)I'm using HRD Logbook 5 build 2893, MiniDeluxe instead of HRD,
DDUtil 2.0.2.29, and PSDR 2.2.3. The only DDUtil option that I can see that
may be in play is "Amo Follows" on the Other tab, and I have selected Both.
Steve Nance may be able to reveal any other DDUtil options that are coming into
play, but I sure don't see them.

Not sure why yours differs.
I know of three other people who experience the same problem.
It's not a big deal, as long as you know what causes it.
When A is sync'd to B, and HRD send the command to change, it occurs for a
split second and immediately reverts back to the original freq / band. I think
VFO "B" is effectively saying, "hey, you can't change - we are sync'd up" All I
know is when I disable the Sync feature it works fine.

[Flexradio] DDUTIL & "VFO Sync" possible bug

2011-10-03 Thread Bob K. WA2SQQ
Since installing the second receiver in my 5000 I noticed that HRD's log
book would no longer change the band and frequency to my Flex 5K. I
suspected a problem with DDUTIL. Checking the screen captures I had, none of
the settings changed. This morning I mentioned the problem on the way into
work on the local UHF repeater. Dave, WO2X knew immediately what was causing
the problem.

I've been playing with "ESC", which, when activated engages the "VFO Sync"
feature. When VFO Sync is active, DDUTIL will not properly talk to the 5K.
Deselect VFO Sync and the problem is gone. Dave, WO2X gets credit on this
one if it was not previously mentioned.

Two suggestions:
1. Each time Power SDR is shut down, Sync VFO should be deselected (or
perhaps a user option).
2. Regarding the ESC feature, consider allowing the four "arrow keys"
to position the bulls eye target. This would be very

does this happen even if you follow Steve's suggestion to always start
in this order:

Flex PSDR
DDUt
logging/contest programs

I follow this order and can't say as I have had profile errors.

Subject: [Flexradio] DDUtil profiles

I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble with DDUtil not remembering the
settings after it's been shut down? About 75% of the time when I start up
the program, at least one of the COM port settings has changed. What I did
was put everything exactly like I want it, make notes in the space provided
as to programs and ports, and then save the profile. That way I can easily
recall the profile after the program loads up to have the necessary configs
to operate. It's an easy fix but a little annoying. It works fine after
recalling the program.

In case it matters, here's my order of operations: turn on PS, turn on
Flex5k, load DDUtil, load Minideluxe (in RCP2 as suggested and not RCP1),
load HRD Logger I'm using what I believe to be the most current version
of DDUtil which is 2.0something. I can't remember the exact number but I
did upgrade from 1.8 and it's a whole lot more stable now. The computer is
Win7 Ultimate x64. Maybe I just need to uninstall and re-install program?
I know VSPmgr specifically says to run in WinXP compatibiltiy mode as

Admin. Do I need to do that with this program, too? Also I think I
remember the instructions for VSPmgr saying to save it to C:\ and not in
Program Files as windows typically wants to install it. I couldn't find
anything specifically recommending these actions for this program. Maybe
that would help? I think maybe these programs are written my the same
person?

Also, one last question I haven't found addressed in the wiki is what
program should be used for RCP1? I only ask because Minideluxe said not to
use it there, which is where I would've naturally thought to put it. Is it
reserved for some specific program or just a conflict with that program for
whatever reason? I'm really enjoying this learning process and playing
around with SDR. All that can be done with software control using just a
computer and firewire cable totally amazes me! Thanks for the input or maybe
leading me in the direction to find out more. Enjoy the holiday.

Re: [Flexradio] DDUtil profiles

2011-07-04 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hello Jeff,

I have noticed that too but I found in my case it was due to my serial ports
not always being connected when DDUtil was coming up or the serial ports not
being connected to the PC/or on when the PC was coming up...

Unless the ports are assigned the same each time you bring up your PC,
DDUtil will not know what to do and start assigning incorrect port addresses
for you.

Other than this issue I have never had DDUtil not remember the correct port.

The current version of DDUtil is 2.0.1.66 . There was a minor bug in
previous versions of DDUtil that mis-read the PSDR version numbers over 2.0
. I hit this bug when I upgraded to PSDR version 2.1 . Steve fixed it
within minutes. Load the newest version on the DDUtil wiki. It works FB.

The later versions of DDUtil include a facility to launch the VSPmgr control

I'm not sure why but the VSPMgr that installs with DDUtil never worked on my
win7 64 bit machine. The copy I got when I sent a request for VSPMgr directly
to Steve per his website did. I never did check to see if they were the same
version.

I don't have the installation guide handy but I believe you need to make sure
you right click on the VSPMgr icon, select properties, and then check run in
Windows XP SP 3 compatability mode and run as administrator.

There was no indication that VSPMgr attempted to load or was even included

Which obvious instruction am I missing this time?

I am sure that the last time I updated DDUtil (to 2.0.1.43) there was a
question whether I wanted to install VSPMgr as well. I had it installed
already, so I said No. This is on Win7/32; is it possible that VSPMgr
doesn't work on 64-bit Win7?

Re: [Flexradio] DDUtil, Bob S Meter, & HRD logbook. No delays now

2010-05-14 Thread K4LCD

Good morning Dave,

I read your posting with interest.

I already downloaded Easy Pal (can receive the pics but wont transmit);
FIdigi (will receive but will not transmit); and Ham Radio DeLuxe Ver.
5 b it wont install. Had BobSmeter running for a while, but now lost it...

Have DDUtil and VSPmanager also installed. Running Windows 7 on a
quattro computer. Flex 5000A. Have VAC ver. 4.09 runnig with virtual
cabe 1 and 2 installed.

This is all driving me crazy.

While doing this I lost the audio on all my computer appliccations:
internet, DVDs, CDs, etc.. except on the Flex 5000A.

If you would be kind enough to spend some time with me on the telephone
and talk me through the install, I am sure I could solve it all. We
could do it on my quarter.

Sincerely, thanks and 73,

[Flexradio] DDUtil hint regarding amp keying

2010-05-06 Thread Dave
For those who are using the TX1 jack on the Flex to key the amp and are now
installing DDUtil to use Bob S Meter or other programs/accessories, please
note:

My friend called me today to ask why his amp wasn't keying after installing
DDUtil.

Once DDUtil is installed it will default to unchecking the TX1 relay every
time it is started. To get the amp keying relay to stay checked follow these
steps.

In DDUtil go to setup tab. Towards the bottom on the right you will see amp
bands. Make sure the bands are checked where you want to use the amp.
Next, on the amp tab make sure the button under PTT is set to OPER (green
color) then go into the antenna tab in PowerSDR and check the TX1 (or TX2,
TX3) checkboxes to key your amp.

If you need to run less than 100 watts to drive your amp you can use the
auto drive function of DDUtil to set drive level per band with amp enabled
and disabled. Example - My radio drive is 26 when the amp is enabled and 100
watts when amp is disabled. Use the AMP STBY/OPER button on the amp tab in
DDUtil to toggle the amp standby.

More info on DDUtil functionality and detailed instruction on the auto drive
function is available on the DDUtil wiki page located at

http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Also support for DDUtil is available at

Re: [Flexradio] DDUtil and Palstar AT-Auto Tuner Interface

2010-02-22 Thread Mack
Jim,

I use the Palstar AT-Auto daily in an automated fashion. You'll need a
physical serial port on your computer. Connect that via a serial cable to
the Palstar. Config the Palstar for Kenwood CAT at the correct baud rate.

Use DDUtil and the "Passive" follower box to set it to the physical serial
port on your computer where the Palstar is connected. It will automatically
send the correct frequency to the Palstar.

These are the basics but should get you started. It works flawlessly. It
does take some time for the Palstar to roll the inductor between 160M and
higher bands so you must be patient before transmitting. However, it's an
awesome tuner and worth the wait.

I ran into a number of problems getting WSPR to work properly with
WSPR. From bits and pieces I have gleaned from others I have come up
with a configuration that allows PowerSDR to work with WSPR 100%
reliably.

1. I used VSP manager to provide the virtual serial port pairs.

2. I did not use DDutil between PowerSDR and WSPR. I had PowerSDR and
WSPR communicating using a two VSP port pairs.

3. WSPR did not work with PTT via CAT. I had to use a second VSP port
pair just to handle PTT.

4. WSPR did not properly communicate with PowerSDR when the SDR-1000
command set was used. I had to use the TS-2000 command set.

5. Someone suggested that WSPR does not work properly with COM ports
above 9. While I did not do exhaustive testing, I did have trouble
when I was trying to use a COM port value of 16 while COM port values
below 10 seem to work.

5. I did use VAC for the audio streams.

Here is the procedure.

1. Create two port pairs. I used COM6/COM7 and COM8/COM9. The first
port pair (6/7) is used for CAT and the second (8/9) is used for PTT.

2. Set up a pair of virtual cables in VAC.

3. Configure PowerSDR to do CAT on port COM6. Other params are: 8 data
bits, no parity, one stop bit, 19200 bps.

4. Configure PowerSDR to do PTT using DTR on COM8.

5. Set the radio ID to be TS-2000.

On WSPR set:

6. PTT via DTR on COM9.

7. CAT on COM7 with a Kenwood TS-2000. Serial port settings should be
8 data bits, no parity, one stop bit, 19200 bps.

Once I set things up this way WSPR worked properly with PowerSDR.

I think you may be trying to share a PTT com port using DDUtil.

I don't believe that you can do that currently with DDUtil.

You have two choices I believe:
1) don't have the MixW and WSPR running at the same time -- Both
programs could reference the same PTT com port

2) Key using CAT for one program and PTT com port for the other

hope to be right with my question.
I am a Flex 5000a user and I am testing
DDutil now, because I will control my Antennas Switch from PowerSDR. I managed
to connect MixW to DDutil as RCP1 without any problem.
I also have the LPT1
controlling my external antenna device.
Now I am connecting WSPR to DDutil as
RCP2, but WSPR does not open the CAT line.
I have:
for CAT:
Power SDR to COM 18
Pair COM 8 to DDutil
DDutil to Com 21 pair COM 11 to WSPR

for PTT:
Power SDR
PTT to COM 19 pair COM 9 to WSPR PTT

am I doing something wrong
do I
missig some others setups
Help wil be nice...
Power SDR 1.18.3
DDutil
1.7.9
WSPR 2.0

[Flexradio] DDUtil release 1.7.9

2009-12-07 Thread Steve Nance
I'm pleased to announce that DDUtil now supports remote operation of the SPE
Expert 1K-FA solid state linear amplifier. This addition has been a long
time coming due to the fact I don't have one of these amps to test with. My
hardiest thanks go to Stu Phillips (K6TU) for his help with the alpha code
testing and the several other beta testers that helped with their testing
support.

Please read the documentation thoroughly before connecting the amplifier.
This is a rather straight forward implementation and most should have no
problems setting it up. Again, read the docs.

http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php?title=Expert_1K-FA

Please post questions and/or comments to the DDUtil Yahoo group or to me
directly if you're not a member.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DDUtil/

DDUtil 1.7.9 is available for download from:

http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php?title=Latest_Revision

[Flexradio] DDUtil and Vista X64?

2009-07-24 Thread Stu Phillips
I'm trying to get DDUtil working with Vista X64 but the program keeps
crashing at various stages of its initialization (Often at the
Initializing Timers stage).

I've verified that all COM ports start with COM and have deleted the
user.config file but still no joy.

Does anyone have DDUTIL working with X64 vista?

Thanks!

[Flexradio] ddUtil Problem fixed -- cockpit error...

2009-06-25 Thread Geep Howell
Well it seems I shot myself in the foot. I reconfigured the com0com
ports, having turned on the buffer over run and baud rate emulation on
both sides. When I put them back to baud rate emulation on the
sending port and buffer underrun on the receiving port, all went back
to working.

Now, if I could just figure out how to get the cw keying out of
Writelog to work, it would all be running like I want it! More
experimentation, I guess.

Thanks for the comments that several made. Hope this helps someone
else.

Re: [Flexradio] ddUtil issues?

2009-06-25 Thread Geep Howell

Using 1.18.1 for digital.

RCP 2

com0com

buffer overrun is set on both ports

writelog is using comm 10/11 pair, ddUtil using com 5/6 pair to talk
to PowerSDR.

I moved over to the Vista Ultimate machine with about the same
results, except that in the standalone writelog/powersdr mode I can't
get CW from writelog to key, so don't know if the CW keying works or
not.

Frustrating, especially since it all worked up to a couple of days
ago. Wonder if the fine folks at Redmond have put out some sort of
update that is causing problems. Wouldn't be the first time...

Thanks the for response

Sounds like some sort of software loop but I haven't been able to

I can always set up just Writelog for the event, but I had hope to run

Re: [Flexradio] DDUtil problems

2009-02-18 Thread Brian Morgan

The problems you are having Pete WA2ODO, are likely due to the way
you have your com ports set up on your quad core machine. I don't
know if you are using USB ports only or a serial port. I had the
same problem. To find the cause, I physically disconnected anything
attached to a USB or serial port, one at a time, trying to open
DDUtil with each in turn disconnected.

For some months the only way I could get DDUtil to open was to
disconnect a USB to serial adaptor, until the program was running and
then physically connect it again. In my case it did not like the
serial adaptor which connected to my SteppIR controller. Since I have
used a dedicated serial port for this function, I have had no further
problems with DDUtil starting or running.

Hope this gives you a clue to finding your problem.

RCP1 is the com port which pairs up with the main Radio Control Program that
you use ..

Start up PowerSDR and then DDUtil.. The Top banner of DDUtil should say

Subject: [Flexradio] DDUtil config questions

Do I have to put PowerSDR in RCP1? I assume that it needs to be there
because it has to talk to any other apps in the other three RCP’s, correct?

I created a serial port pair (COM30&31) via com0com and checked emulate baud
rate and enable buffer overrun. Everthing else is unchecked.

In DDUtil I picked COM30 for RCP1 CAT and in PSDR I picked COM31 and enabled
CAT. Temp does not display so I assume that PSDR and DDUtil are not talking.
So out of desperation I reversed the pair and neither program is talking to
each other.

I must be doing something stupid but I cannot figure out why these programs
are not talking. BTW I am using the instructions at
http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php?title=How_To and have the latest
DDUtil version installed.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

After I get this working I would also like to add HRD, CW Skimmer, WSJT,
DXLab Commander and DXLab Winwarbler. Since I need to add six programs to
RCP but there are only three available is it possible to add more RCP tabs?

Thanks

[Flexradio] DDUtil config questions

2008-12-26 Thread vtnn43e

Do I have to put PowerSDR in RCP1? I assume that it needs to be there because
it has to talk to any other apps in the other three RCP’s, correct?

I created a serial port pair (COM30&31) via com0com and checked emulate baud
rate and enable buffer overrun. Everthing else is unchecked.

In DDUtil I picked COM30 for RCP1 CAT and in PSDR I picked COM31 and enabled
CAT. Temp does not display so I assume that PSDR and DDUtil are not talking. So
out of desperation I reversed the pair and neither program is talking to each
other.

I must be doing something stupid but I cannot figure out why these programs are
not talking. BTW I am using the instructions at
http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php?title=How_To and have the latest
DDUtil version installed.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

After I get this working I would also like to add HRD, CW Skimmer, WSJT, DXLab
Commander and DXLab Winwarbler. Since I need to add six programs to RCP but
there are only three available is it possible to add more RCP tabs?

Thanks
Zack

Hai,

I want to setup my Flex-5000a with ddutil. I find the manual difficult to

[Flexradio] DDUtil Announcement

2008-07-22 Thread Steve Nance
I have a couple of things that may be of interest to some users.

1. DDUtil is currently being tested with Vista Home Premium (32 bit) and
appears to be stable so far.

2. I'm currently in the process of adding an adjustable WatchDog timer to
shut down the transmitter should it exceed the preset value. This should be
available in the next release (1.6.2).

3. ALC implementation is being looked into for feasibility. There are a
number of issues to be considered, but I don't see it being a FireWire
device. I would think a USB Dongle would be a better choice, at least in the
short term. If I can stay away from the Flex code I would rather at least in
its current incarnation. I do need help with the hardware design so if
anyone has any ideas please contact me off line.

DDUtil Users,

In this release the following changes and new features are available:

1. Added support for multiple Radio Control Programs (RCP). Up to four (4)
can now be run at the same time. Be sure and read the RCP setup instructions
on the wiki as there are precautions to be aware of. A forth tab (RCP) has
been added to support the three additional RCP ports.

2. Support of the ICOM IC-PW1 linear amplifier, as a passive listener
device, is now in beta testing. Special thanks to Kazuyuki Matsuura (JA2OZJ)
for his assistance.

3. A new installer is now used which negates the need to un-install old
versions of DDUtil. Optionally, a zip file is available for users that want
to keep old versions of the software.

Help files and web site have been updated to these changes.

See http://k5fr.com/ddutilwiki/index.php for information and download.

Thanks Jerry, glad it's working for you.

Just today I have released version 1.1.0 that will allow you to attach
another radio to the passive listener port which will follow the PowerSDR
frequency. This was developed for a user that uses an early three (3) board
set and wanted to use his FT-1000 to transmit with. It could also be used
with any other hardware that can use the PowerSDR console such as a
SoftRock.

Subject: [Flexradio] DDUtil Beta Release

Anyone need a way to send PowerSDR transmit frequency data to your Linear or
Band Switch or Tuner while using your favorite radio control program. I have
written a small C# helper utility called DDUtil (Flex Data Decoder Utility)
which I think will do that.

In brief DDUtil will connect to PowerSDR, poll it for transmit frequency
data and then furnish it to your RS-232 and/or BCD band switching devices.
For example it will band switch a Yaesu Quadra amplifier, a SteppIR antenna
controller and a Palstar AT-Auto tuner all at the same time. If you want to
run a radio control program such as HRD or DXLabs or MixW it will change
modes and pass all commands from the radio control program to PowerSDR and
still provide the passive listener devices frequency data.

DDUtil is very much beta software and there will be bugs so don't look for a
bug-free release just yet. I have been playing with it for several weeks and
can't break so I figured it was time to give it to Mikey. Those of you brave
enough to try it can find it here http://k5fr.com/DDUtil.htm. Please read
the web page and help file as there are some setup issues to be aware of.

Please report any bugs or comments to me privately.
