[Audyssey] Game suggestion

2009-12-16 Thread ari

Hi all
One game I'd love to see ported, and I know there could be copyright issues,
but you could change the idea of the game to delivering braille magazines or
something, is Paperboy, I'd love an accessible Paperboy game.

[Audyssey] Braille crossword problem

2009-09-05 Thread ari

Hi all
I don't know if any of you get, or have seen Conundrum Magazine, given out
by the RNIB. I want to know, can someone explain to me how you set up, or
what do you do to do their braille crosswords? I have never done a braille
crossword before, and I don't understand the instructions.

Thanks

It's funny you mention Warzone on playstation 1. I've played quite a few

is that Warzone for me never seemed somehow accessible. I couldn't do much

Hi Mathias,
First, thanks very much, I heard of WLS, but could never find it. My
question is, I know you said these games run in DOS, but do you know if I
can play them properly with JAWS? Do you have a DOS screen reader or a
computer with DOS, or how do you play them? I will test myself, but I have
many projects to finish and I'm not going to start in case I can't stop!

No, I don't think I asked the question properly. I don't specifically mean
games made for the blind, rather I meant sighted games that can be played by
blind people with few problems, example, a blind person can play a game like
techon, but I am wondering if there are boxing or sports games lying around
on the net that a blind person can download and play after getting some

[Audyssey] German games and help

Hi all,
First, I know I've asked before, but got no answer. I am learning German,
and would please like to know if there is somewhere for me to get easy kid's
audio or text games to help me learn. My other question, sorry this is
off-topic, but I would really appreciate it if any blind people living in
Germany would like to be a sort of internet pal for me, because first I
would like to practice chatting on Skype, and I please have some urgent
questions about German braille, and where to find some resources to help me
with my studying, like braille maps of Germany, books, etc.

Thanks very much guys

Re: [Audyssey] games and religion

2009-04-18 Thread ari
Good one Wil! But, I hate to really throw a spanner in the works here, but
what I find interesting is, and I'll tell you guys why I think it's rubbish,
but as a liberal Christian myself I find it weird how some Christian pastors
who claim that somehow playing some games actually loosens evil spirits, or
makes you vulnerable to becoming possessed somehow. This is especially so
where I live, because in Africa many people have very strong beliefs in
spirits and evil forces being able to influence the world. Like, I know you
have them in America as well, the people who say you listen to the music,
when it gets played backwards you get the hidden messages? I'll tell you why
I don't believe the whole thing about spirits and games, because if it was
so, Phil and Dark and everyone who likes and does fantasy RPG's would have
been really mentally disturbed by now! You just need logic and balance. I
won't say that elements in games could influence you or could disturb you
mentally enough into taking up wrong spiritual practices, but it is for you
to not allow that, like I would consider a game that had something like
glassy-glassy to be uncomfortable for me to play, since I believe that is
wrong in real life that is not something I would ever want to dabble in. If
I think a game could be spiritually disturbing for me, I just don't play it.
I remember, and this was even a long time after the Berlin Wall came down,
in my defense I was only 9 years old, didn't understand politics and was
very impressionable, but at school we had this weird old guy who loved
teaching us, probably from an old sylabus written during apartheid gave us
Life Orientation, and one of his favourite topics was the evil influences
computer games had on people. They were iether introduced to the West by
Leftist and Soviet Russian forces to lead us away from our Christian values
through brainwashing, and some aparrently were openly from the devil,
apparrently he claimed that there was a game where you had to go into
churches and break things. It's disgusting to make little kids like that so
paranoid and even a bit fearful, but I was lucky enough to have a great
older brother and friends who told me that normal games are not like that,
that games are actually good, and that, at that time you'd hardly ever see
games with such disturbing and wrong themes for me in the shops.

[Audyssey] Sega games site

2009-03-25 Thread ari

Hi all,
Two topics here.
First, I haven't had time, but if someone could try it and give us a review
if the site or any games on it are accessible, remember the Sega Megadrive?
Well, Sega has just launched a free site where you can play the old games,
and, for a subscription, you have access to even more titles, like Sonic,
etc.

www.playsega.com
I found my old Sega Megadrive. I'd love to get some more games for it, did
anyone of you guys have them and what games were accessible and did you guys
like to play? My friend and I have tried Mortal Combat 3 (remember how cool
it was that we thought it was great when it talked a bit?), Toughman Boxing,
and WWF Arcade Game. Anyone remember the commentators and bringing back all
the nostalgia of wrestling 1995 with Doynk The Clown, Razor Ramon, Brett
Heart and Yoko Zoona?

Hi all!
I have found a projekt that is very interesting.
It is a program that will allow you to use second life with jaws.
The program is in it's beta, but you can download the beta already.
The projekt is under the gnu license, so any developer who is interested
can work at it.

Please note that this software does only work with jaws.
To read more and download it, go to the following page:

Re: [Audyssey] Table Games was Re: Air Hockey

2009-01-07 Thread ari
OK Lelia, am going to try and explain as best I can. Air hockey is a game,
where there are one or two players at each end of a long, rectangular table.
Each player has like a flat round saucer attached to the base of a short
stick, and then there is a round disk, the puck. I don't know how it's done,
but when the game starts, a wind randomly blows the puck round and round the
table, and the players try hit it into each other's goals using there
sticks. The puck flies and bounces around the table. At the end of the
tables are wholes, which are the goals, as well as, on the ones I've seen,
posts and a crossbar, but it's not like a football goal which is a whole
net, rather like a table football goal, which is a whole in the table into
which the disk falls.

[Audyssey] Air Hockey

2009-01-06 Thread ari

Hi all,
I have two questions, the first one is OT, so please answer that directly to
me. Because I have recently become interested in ice hockey:
1. Sorry, but I don't know how American radio works, and the amount and
names of your stations are quite confusing. If they are allowed to do this,
I would love to listen to an NHL game, so can someone please tell me if
these are broadcast over the internet, and, because you guys have so many
stations, which station could I hear one on if possible.
2. Now to the games question. My dad and I were trying to see if I could
play air hockey, but it wasn't that successful because, as you guys know,
the disk blows and bounces all over. My question is, as a totally blind
person, do any of you guys play it successfully, what strategy do you use.
Do you think, if none of you have an answer, it would somehow help to create
a disk that could make some kind of buzz or beep while it's flying, would
that be a good way to play near evenly, or equally against a sighted person?

Thanks
Ari

[Audyssey] Table Games was Re: Air Hockey

2009-01-06 Thread ari

Hi Ian and Dark,
The problem with that is, it takes the fun out, because you're stopping the
disk from flying around, which is supposed to happen. Dark, let's for a
moment forget about the fact that you need to use the disk that came with
the machine, or let's pretend the owner said you can modify it, is there an
answer? I've also wondered about this when it comes to things like table
football, or even table tennis and pool, because a lot of the time it's
really rubbish to not play properly, or have to sit out while the sighted
guys have the fun. For snooker, I have heard that some blind people label
the balls in braille, like y for yellow, p for pink, r for red, which is
interesting. For me, though, as I don't have ready access to a pool table, I
have trouble even shooting a ball with a long cue, but that is because I
can't practice, I don't think that that's got anything to do at all with
being blind. The only problem I think a blind person has, it's impossible to
get a visual perspective of the table, but, if you're playing with a sighted
person, you can ask if there are any balls in your way, and if you're
playing with another blind person, then you'll have to feel very carefully
around the table, which sometimes takes ages.

Re: [Audyssey] Air Hockey

2009-01-06 Thread ari

Hi Mich,
But I can't see how you could have played air hockey in the propper sense,
because the wind always changes direction and blows the disk all over the
place. I know you could try and hear how it bounces and try and hit it, but
wasn't that kind of a hit-and-miss thing, because the disk doesn't bounce
predictably, because of the wind it might blow to the total opposite side,
and, until it bounces, as far as I can tell, you're none the wiser?

[Audyssey] Grizzly Problem and merry Christmas

2008-12-24 Thread ari

Hi all,
Since it is only a few hours until Christmas here in South Africa, I'd like
to wish everyone a merry Christmas, and if you don't do Christmas, then a
merry whatever else you will be celebrating.
Anyway, my problem seems kind of serious, as I really don't know what to
try. The laptop on which I'm trying to play GG has got excellent specs and a
3d graphics card, I can play sort of demanding games like Troopanum,
Teraformers, Jim Kitchen, basically every other audio game without any
problem. The problem I have here is that, for some reason, when I get to the
target range, it says to me prepare, I hear my gun click, and then nothing
happens, everything freezes, there is just total silence. I can't tell if GG
exits, but I think so, because I can restart JAWS, but there is no GG
window. I don't know what it does with gun fights, because I have not been
able to get that far without it freezing or everything being closed.

What can I try?
Thanks

[Audyssey] Where are the board games?

2008-12-16 Thread ari

Hi all,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I definitely do remember that a person could
get an accessible Cludo, I think it was made by the RNIB. Why then now can't
I find it anywhere, has it actually stopped being made? Especially at
Christmas it would be great to have more board games, if not made, then
developed for the PC. I'd love a proper trivial persuit (by the way, wasn't
a board game of that also made by the rnib, what happened to it?) I don't
know if I'm right here, but it seems as if there's less traditional board
games available then there used to be, and I am looking at all major shops,
not just RNIB and SANCB, but also Independent Living Aids as well.

[Audyssey] Jim's Monopoly question

2008-12-13 Thread ari

Hi
I know this has probably been asked before, but I don't know in what post.
My question is, why can't monopoly be made so that you can have a computer
player even if you don't choose a one-player game, or even, why can't you
choose for the fun to have multiple computer oponents, example, a
four-player game made up of you and a pal, plus two computers? I'm asking
because I've installed monopoly for a friend, and, because she often plays
by herself, she finds it boring to always just play against one computer.

[Audyssey] Question for Jim about Simon

2008-12-07 Thread ari

Hi Jim
I enjoy your Simon, but I would please like to know if you could do these
suggestions if it can be done without too much trouble.
1. Can you make it so that a person can start from the round from where you
failed, or that you can set from which number of objects to remember to
begin? Example, if I fail on round 10, can I start again from round 10?
2. Some people prefer to play memory to see how much they can remember
without a time limit, rather trying to concentrate on remembering as much as
they can without the pressure of time. Could there be an option to turn time
limits on and off?

Thanks

Re: [Audyssey] World Building Games

2008-12-06 Thread ari
mm, but the thing about Freeciv is that it's very text-based, and it doesn't
work in it's own environment like other games. If you route your JAWS and PC
cursor, you can read some of the screen in a way, but some of the game isn't
textual where we must find a solution, like, at the begining, it's a good
idea to map your kingdom. If I remember properly, all your choices are made
through clicking labelled buttons, and I think there was a menue bar. It'
practially nearly exactly like Civilisation, you chose a civilisation and
it's turn-based. I could do things like move around the screen and click on
the civilisation I wanted because it used radio buttons, name my capital as
well, but then when it gets to the rest of the game it became too difficult
to try and make sense of how to get to stuff.

Re: [Audyssey] World Building Games

2008-12-05 Thread ari

Hi Thomas and John,
There is an open-source civilisation-type game, which could, I think, be
made accessible with not too much effort, especially for us who like that
sort of thing. Many elements of the game is text-based, it's just a question
of the interface being quite difficult to control using JAWS. The game is
called Freeciv, sorry, but I don't know the address.
There was even once a discussion on the forum about making an accessible
front-end, but that sort of never took off.

For Christmas I've ordered the GG and Chillingham pack from Bavisoft, let's

1. What are you guys thoughts about the difficulty of GG, especially on
hard? I know this varies from gamer to gamer, but some people have told me
that hard was actually to easy and not hard enough! Any thoughts on this?
2. I once heard that there was a Bavisoft mailing list, where can I see the

[Audyssey] Solving a Sudoku and Fifteen Puzzle?

2008-06-24 Thread ari
Hi all,
Would like some tips or just some pointers as to how to solve Sudoku puzzles
where you've reached a part where it is not obvious what number fits, what
is the trick to somehow deduce what number could fit by just looking at the
square, row or column, how to sort of see the puzzle as a whole, and to try
and somehow deduce the relationship between a different part of the puzzle,
how that could have an impact on the whole puzzle. I think the term for
these are hidden singles, any strategies to deal with these? Also, what's an
effective strategy to solve the BG Fifteen puzzles? I've realised I need to
improve with these, I'm not good at thinking ahead to try and plan moves in
advance, like with chess, I just can't concentrate on the board/puzzle as a
whole, rather, I solve stuff bit by bit, just not good at all with this
spatial square stuff and moving things around!
Thanks

[Audyssey] Audiogames sudoku problem

Hi all,
Is there a way that I can undo a number on audiogames sudoku after putting
it in? I had somehow done a part of the puzzle wrong, since I was left with
a 3, but sudosan wouldn't allow me to put that in, so when I wanted to
backtrack, I found that there is no way for me to remove the numbers that
I've already put in. Even trying to press enter on the square to change the
number, or trying to type the new number in, or pressing enter and the old
number to try and erase it doesn't work. What to do?

Re: [Audyssey] Game Chat Reminder

2008-06-14 Thread ari
Hi all,
For the first time in a long while, after my microphone has been sorted out
and stressful exams, I can probably come onto games chat, but I tried twice
before, and noone was there. I reckon it's because I'm often there at the
time set, but, if I were to wait, does it fill up, or is it often the way
that this is basically just a robot reminder and hardly anyone actually does
do chats anymore?
Thanks

[Audyssey] Explaining the Inform Hints System

2008-06-14 Thread ari
Hi all,
I know to some of you this might be stupid, but, maybe to some this will be
useful, as I think I've at last understood how to navigate the inform hints
system. Basically, it's very easy, all you do is, enter or return as
inform puts it, moves you to a new level, while q moves you backwards, and
the sign indicates the subject you will choose. What I mean is, type
hint and you get a long list, such as, inside the House, About the
author, Outside the house, etc. Then, you move through that list by
pressing n for next subject, so, if I were to just press the enter, it
would show me a sub-section of hints for inside the house, but if I were
to press n, it would move the subject to about the author and pressing
enter would then show me about the author. So, if I want hints for outside
the house, I'd press N twice, then enter. Then I get to a subsection of
hints, like How do I get over the fence?, How do I get Past the Dog?
How do I break the Window?, and, again, I cycle through these hints by
pressing n, and the hint I want to see the answer to I press Enter. When I
want to go a level back or return to game, I just press q over and over
until I'm in the game again.
Hope this helps someone else as well.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Chat Reminder

2008-06-14 Thread ari
Strange that the other time should be better, probably it is for the US and
Australasia, but for people in Europe and Africa like me the Saturday time
is the best, it's 7 in the evening here, whereas the other time is 2 in the
morning on a week night!-) So if you want to make a once-a-month chat,
please try and make it an hour which will be comfortable, so many things on
that ftp are impossible times, unless you're a real night-owl, grin.

[Audyssey] my Nintendo article

2008-04-01 Thread ari
Hi all,
If there are any, I'd love to hear stories of, like what I had in my
article, where you put on Nintendo games and you had no idea what they were?
Like my example with the game with the jewels and the blocks, and there was
also a game called Ninja 3 where the one button sounded maybe like a sword
and the other button was to jump, but to me it always sounded so funny!
Also, is it just me, but when you've finished writing an article, you think
wow, this article is so long but when it comes in the mag, you just read
it and then think wow, this article is actually not too long. It's like
writer's nerves or something, or when a person writes an article, the
thought a person puts in makes the article seem long?

I think, when it comes later, this issue is going to be quite a nice big
one, because I think there are many articles, Dark, me, and I know some
other people also said they'd written some stuff. Let's have some fun and
play a guessing game, I guess, excluding the letters, news from game
developers, editorial and all the usual stuff and if there are puzzles and
answers, we count them as one article, I guess there'll be about 6 articles
in this issue.

[Audyssey] What is a Crossword?

Hi all,
On the subject of Crosswords, I know this does sound a stupid question, but
I've never really understood what exactly a crossword is, even though I've
heard braille ones do exist, I've never seen one, from where do you get
them? I know it's a grid thing, but how large is it and what do people
mean when they talk about things like joined, across, etc? Is there an
accessible one that I could maybe see or try to understand it, I know ME2
used to make one, but I was never able to try that.

Re: [Audyssey] The Sega

2008-03-13 Thread ari
Hi Tom,
I also have a Sega Megadrive, absolutely bril. I think the Maddon, if you
learn the menues and the key functions, and maybe let the pc do some stuff
for you such as, I think after you've passed, you leave the control and the
pc automatically runs, not sure of this, but I think there's a possibility
it could sort of be accessible. Don't know about the other games, but am
sadly guessing that Sonic and stuff aren't really playable. Get Golden Axe
if you can, you just walk right and when you hear something trying to attack
you, you can try attacking it, I think it's quite accessible. The WWF (now
WWE after being sued) games like the Arcade Game is absolutely accessible,
also Toughman Boxing, Rugby World Cup 1995 (with quite a bit of practice and
learning tactics), are accessible. Another game with commentary that might
be accessible is Bret Hull (really sorry about the spelling) hockey. This
game is quite fun, because you can remove the golies, so if you do that you
get these like really huge scores.

Hi John,
Yes, something like that, more objects, maybe higher levels, and it would
also be cool if the objects had more sound effects. What I mean is, some
objects have sound effects when you move through them with your arrows, but
others don't. Maybe for those who don't like sound effects there would be a
choice to turn them off.

[Audyssey] writing a text adventure

Hi all,
I remember asking this ages ago, and someone suggested that, without any

but that it wasn't too great for screen readers. What I want to know is,
even using programming, what's the most accessible package to write text
adventures in, and what's the difference between them. If you also don't
know programming, isn't there maybe an quickstart guide somewhere for a text

[Audyssey] flash and video problem

2008-02-23 Thread ari
Hi all,
You can reply off-list, but this is also with audiogames and flash games, as
nothing seems to work, I know this might be considered a bit OT, but I've
asked on so many lists and noone has had an answer for me and I'm really
beginning to get desperate because I really don't know what to do, sorry. My
problem is that, I can't work out if it's a flash issue, but for quite a few
weeks now, it doesn't look like flash content, like Youtube Videos,
sudo-san, nothing wants to play. I click, for example, on a link of a
youtube video, or a link that says watch a video, or on the sudo-san link,
I'm getting absolutely no response. The page of the video pops up with the
buttons to play them, but even when I try and press the flash buttons,
nothing happens. How can I work out what's going on?
Thanks

[Audyssey] Pac Mate BX games and FS

2008-02-20 Thread ari
Hi all,
Please forward to people who are interested in games and have a Pac Mate. I
don't know if any of you guys would also write to show that we are quite a
group who would like this, but I have emailed FS, attaching coppies of the
game interpreters that I've had some sort of success with, and told FS of my
experience, example that the .z5 and tads interpreters won't read all the
game text, and that they should try and make the interface so that JAWS can
read the environment automatically without having to route the cursors. I
know that, probably for the most part, I don't know whether I can expect
anything from FS, but, like I tried to explain to them in my email, text
adventures are a past time of many blind people, and it is a fun thing to do
while travelling, as well as improving language and thinking. So, I'd also
appreciate other Pac Mate owners to also write in if they are having these
problems, it's is a long shot, but maybe FS will do something if enough of
us are interested.

Re: [Audyssey] Pac Mate BX games and FS

2008-02-20 Thread ari
Thanks Charles. To continue this, we can go to the Otysey group, but I must
say that the response you got is really awful, I mean, you think, every
computer that a blind person in the whole world would use has these games
on. Aparrently the Window Eyes people have made WE to work with solitaire, I
mean, is it really too much effort for FS, especially when you think that WE
users are just as capable of doing their jobs with GW Micro seeming to be
more flexible on things. Looking at this as well, If I hadn't spent all the
money on FS, I would have traded in both my products. For me, the Pac Mate
has rubbish braille support, especially a person like me needing better
foreign language braille, and not this computer braille for calendar and
everything, and I don't think the upgrade from JAWS 8 to 9 was really worth
much in terms of enhancements, it shouldn't have been a major upgrade.

Re: [Audyssey] Any suggestions for the savage gamut?

2008-02-19 Thread ari
I agree the game must be challenging, but the Bopit-style, constrictive
interface was really too stiff. I want the trainer not to have such a
terrible voice, I don't think the idea of punch and counter-punch is even
such a good idea, in that real boxing doesn't work that one punch can only
be countered by another, and that if you miss a punch, that it is certain
you'll be hit, if possible I'd really like the ability of boxers to somehow
be able to move around the ring, don't know how that would work, I would
like a feature where you could set things like shorter or longer fights,
what I mean is, you could really have three minute rounds with one minute
rests, but the boxer's stamina mustn't then be arcade, I mean, it's
understandable that if you punch the guy many times without a response,
there'll be trouble, but it, like real boxing, it must be more strategy in
that the boxers must avoid being punched so much if you aren't that good,
you must be able to scrap out a long fight, stamina and endurance. I mean a
certain arcade and real life mode, where arcade is your many
knock-downs, and your real-life if you're not really good against an
amateur boxer, or if you're both really professional, you then won't be able
to knock him out. Maybe it could be like a boxing game like World Champ
where you need to train hard to get more power and things.

Hi Phil,
Is it true that you guys once released for Windows a kickboxing game, what
was it like and how did it work? I unfortunately was never able to try out
your dos games because my sound card was one channel, and I didn't have
hardware synthesizer or JAWS for dos.

Asunto: What's happened to Code Factory Games?

Hello,
I would please like to know why Code Factory is not selling all the
wonderful entertainment and educational games that were made? Are there
any plans to make these games available again, as I really loved the
professional way in which they were made using real actors, and as there is
already not much available for blind people in the way of gaming
entertainment, it really seems quite sad that these games are not available
anymore. I do understand that Mobile Speak and those solutions are the most
important, but these games were also much fun.
Thanks
Ari

Re: [Audyssey] lower than bsc ok for games?

2008-02-17 Thread ari
Hi Dark,
It's not about time, it's about the problems here, because the University
doesn't have a gap course which can help him if he never did Physics at
school, and the problem is that, unfortunately here there isn't a place
which can do such advanced stuff in braille if he wants to do the sort of
bridging course because they don't know how to get the physics stuff into
braille in the first place. I don't know, maybe he should just do the
Information Systems BCOM first and then just hope he'll know enough to do
some programming for games or pick it up later I suppose.

Hi Kevin,
There are wap games, you play by clicking on links of the wap site. Go to
wap.kalador.com and then you click on Home, then on, I think Games. There
are also some at wap.worddial.com as well.
I think Code Factory also makes a few phone games for blind people, but I
haven't tried them and don't know anyone who has.

Actually Jim, I think what you've just said is probably some of the most
encouraging stuff for someone like him, because I think many people, even
myself had this notion that you need to be this absolute BSC-type, flying
through a whole degree in college type of person. I'll talk to him about
this, because I think that we always picture people like Thomas and you as
like having these major degrees in computer science, and, really, this will
probably not just be thrilling for him, but even for me as well!

Hi Liam,
I Still want Sphere, I wish you were still wanting to do that. I'd
definitely buy a well-made table-tennis or Pong game, what I mean is, a Pong
game with tournaments, strangely-behaving tables, maybe different types of
shots and bounces, fun features, crowds, a Brit umpire like what they have
at Wimbledon tennis, and also multi-player, that would have really been fun!
Please!! think of doing Sphere again. Shots could have counter-shots,
walls on the sides of tables where the ball would bounce off, bril.

Hi Claudio,
Well, the Top Gun game on worddial, it is a game where you can play against
other users, but there isn't a game where you can play against a friend,
like two-player totally, they all work like ranking things. By the way, I
haven't forgot about our German and English lessons, it's just that I can't
get for-the-people to work properly, we could try Skype maybe sometime next
week if you are on Skype?

[Audyssey] Savage Gambit

2008-02-17 Thread ari
Hi all,
Is there anywhere from where I can download The Savage Gambit and the
trainer thing? The site where it's on seems closed down. You know, thinking
about boxing games, I don't know if it's changed nowdays because I haven't
tried the latest consols yet, but most of these games are really not like
real fights! Most boxing fights are about strategy and go to points with few
knock-downs or knock-outs, and to concentrate for three minutes at a time,
for twelve rounds must probably be exhausting. The only boxing game I did
see nearly like this was unfortunately not too accessible, on the Sega
Megadrive called Foreman For Real.

Re: [Audyssey] UK devs any1 4cricket

2008-02-16 Thread ari
Hi Mark,
I think at the moment, for cricket fans like us, and even football, it's
just a fantasy for the moment. These sports are so popular that, as I've
said forever, it would be great to give such projects to RNIB or, for the
football, let blind organisations all over Europe come together to produce a
mega game. As far as I'm concerned, if you want a really good cricket game
with teams, sounds, and commentary, that's probably not something you just
want one guy to do, you need much feedback, you need people from all over
the cricket world like us from South Africa, our Ausie, Kiwi, New Zealand
and English pals, and of course India, I mean, there are many blind people
in India, I actually would think that organisations could cooperate on a
cricket game as well. Well, at the moment, your only choice is Batrick, we
can do that in the meantime. When I think of a cricket game, I'm thinking of
some sort of solution where we could use stereo again, where, let's say, the
batsman has an area stretching from the far left to the far right, the
bowler tries and bowls, and the batsman maybe tries to move towards the ball
and hit it, he can hit it to different directions, but there are many other
complex things like fielding and things, I don't want a game where I just
press a number for the shot I want, I've always thought that sports games
should really most of the time hardly ever be down to luck, and that, if you
time or do your moves exactly according to extreme split-second timing, you
should get results, because a sports game like cricket and football for me,
quite a bit of the time it can work a little bit on randomness, but rather
also work on whether you're able to keep focus and concentrate, or, if you
use some players and make them run too much, they get tired.

[Audyssey] lower than bsc ok for games?

2008-02-16 Thread ari
Hi all,
This is quite a tricky question, I suppose this goes to our developers
like Thomas. I have a friend who, his situation is a bit tricky, in that
he's not sure what to do, he wants to develop Information Systems for
businesses, but he would also like to try his hand at games developing. Now,
his problem is this, to get into the bsc of computer science, you need maths
and science, but he didn't do science at school, so he can't get into the
BSC. Some people say that you need physics to be able to program games, to
like understand speeds and distances and things, but is this really
necessary? Instead of doing a BSC, he can do a diploma in IT at a college,
or, at the uni, he can do a BCom in Information Systems. If he were to do
the Information Systems BCom, would the programming which he would pick up,
where he would learn to make Information Systems, be OK for him to develop,
even maybe some basic games? I know he'd like to do the BCOM, as his main
goal is to develop business systems, but do you think he'd be able to also
develop games and programs with it? I'm unfortunately not sure what the
diploma in IT teaches, but is a BSC really necessary to understand things
like Artificial Intelligence or to program computer games? Sorry, I know
this sounds a bit confused, but, basically, I think what I want to know is,
do you really need a top-of-the-range BSC in computer science to be a good
games developer. He has enough maths to do a diploma in IT, or a BCom
Information Systems, but his physics and science is really not good.

Re: [Audyssey] UK devs any1 4cricket

2008-02-16 Thread ari
Oh sorry Mark, I didn't read board game, I sort of probably just got carried
away by cricket game! Well, you'd have to probably sort of make rules for a
game like that, because I've never heard of a cricket board game. One fun
little game my friend and I used to play, you have three batsmen, then you
take a dice. You throw it, and one, two, three, four and six are for runs,
and a five is a wicket. You use your three batsmen, and he uses his. For the
toss, you do one chooses odd, and the other even, the winner decides whether
to bowl or bat first, and you do as many innings or balls in an innings as
you want. We also devised a more complicated cricket game using dice, but
I've forgotten a bit how it worked, I will actually write an article about
games we invented using dice. We actually managed to make quite a few sports
games using a dice, it's amazing what imagination and a dice can do.
