Re: [Audyssey] battle zone
Hi I to have just started playing this game and love it as well. I have not been able to get past level 1 though. one thing I would like to see is some sort of a change in noize to let you know you are getting to the edge of a pit. I have been walking and have walked right off the edge in to a pit. other then that it is really cool. keep up the good work. - Original Message - From: The Addictor kenwdow...@neo.rr.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, March 28, 2011 1:26 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] battle zone I have to say that this game is quite addictive. I couldn't hear the pit sound very well, so I did modify that one sound. I yelled, Look out! Watch where you're steppin'! I mixed that yell into the pit sound two times, one at the beginning and one about five seconds later--but there are still like ten seconds of wind after, so often I still fall into the pit only to be told, as I plummet to my death, to watch my step. Anyway, even with that extra bit of help I find the game rather difficult. No, I'm not complaining--I love it! I haven't got past level 3, and I keep dying for some unknown reason I haven't figured out get. Two improvements I'd like to see: 1. Sometimes, items fall just as you are completing a level, and you're stuck listening to a high-pitched shriek as you're told your stats. Stopping all sounds would fix it. 2. An analog jumping system would be killer. It would make things a lot harder, but it would be worth it. Thanks, and love the game! Hi Tom. I agree good job on the game. Hi Damien, Damien wrote: Good work on this beta. My reply: Thanks. I certainly put a lot of time and energy into this one. Damien wrote: I would suggest slowing the narrator speech down. Although I and possibly a load of other people could understand it at that rate, I personally know of some who would not be able to understand it at that speed and would struggle to navigate the menus because of it. My reply: HThat's going to be a problem then. I spent almost an entire week recording and editing those speech clips, and have already put most of that in subversion to be used with other titles. I'm not exactly in any hurry to do all that work over again from scratch. Plus any slower and it will be too slow for me personally. So I don't know what to say. Let's see if anyone has any problems before resorting to putting another week into recreating well over 300 voice clips from scratch. Damien wrote: The second thing I would suggest is, since you now have to hold the relevant keys down to be able to jump over a trap, as soon as you land you instantly seem to start another jump before you can let go. My reply: Yeah, this is something I definitely want to work on. I've noticed problems with jumping like this as well. Especially, on ropes and things where you don't necessarily want Angela to jump, catch it, and swing off again. I've definitely got plans to fix this in the next beta. Damien wrote: My question is, the levers you pick up, do they disappear after a time? I must've picked up three levers where the one usually is and still can't get the statue to open. My reply: Well, you don't actually pick up the levers. Angela pulls it and it unlocks a statue somewhere else in the tomb. New in this release the statues are time so if you don't get there, and open it in a certain length of time the lock will reset, and you will have to travel back to the correct lever, pull it again, and then try and open the statue. The timer is completely random so it is a good idea to get back to the statue as quick as possible, don't doddle, or it will reset on you. That's what seams to be happening here. You aren't moving to the statue fast enough so the lock resets and seals the statue shut. In fact, I just got done playing an awesome match between the Ultimate Warrior, one of my favorite wrestlers of all time, verses the Undertaker in Pile Driver. As said, it is a good game, but I personally think I could have done a slightly better job on either game development wise. So that leads me to a question. If people are actually interested in these sorts of games I think I'd like to rewrite Pile Driver and add some actual sound effects such as crowd ambience, bells for start and end of matches, some general sounds of a body hitting the matt, etc while retaining the text interface. What do you guys think? Would you be interested in something like that? Also from what I can tell they are all over the place in terms of professional wrestlers. We have classic WWF/WWE wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan, Rickie Steamboat, Randy Savage, and the Ultimate Warrior and then there are some more current WWE wrestlers like Chris Jarico as well. We've got wrestlers from the NWA and AWA thrown into the mix too. My thought is if I did decide to rewrite one of these wrestling games is we could sort of focus on a specific Federation and/or era. For instance, I'm a huge fan of the 1980's WWE classic super stars so we might have a wrestling game or special mode only to play that era of super stars. Of course, like all true wrestling fans I still watch WWE Smackdown, Raw, and now Tough Enough so would be just as willing to play a game featuring more contemperary super stars like Edge, Ray Mysterio, Big Show, etc. Any thoughts? Definitely was there long before I lost my sight, I'd say the late 80's, and I must say he used to creep me out looking at him on WWF wrestling. Even the look in his eyes as he looked at the camera was sinister. Lol! Let's just say he was one of the heels you loved to hate. He was so creepy you wanted someone like Hulk Hogan to take him on just to beat the crap out of him. Maybe then he wouldn't be so creepy. Speaking of the Undertaker I just had a match in Piledriver with the Ultimate Warrior vs the Undertaker. Oh, was that one tough match. In fact, it ended in a draw. I've got to play again to see if I can actually pin the creep. He gave the Ultimate Warrior the fight of his life though. Cheers! Basically, as it stands now USA Blackjack is just a text-based game. I was wondering if you guys want me to do something like what Jim Kitchen did by adding sounds such as shuffling cards, dealing cards, intro music, etc. It would be fairly easy to do using something like FMOD Ex which is Mac, Linux, and Windows compatible. I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. Dark says the X-Arcade sticks are good, but those are in the $120 price range. Hi all. I just received my Logitech F510 Rumble Gamepad and have a few questions. 1 can some one please send me a description of the buttons left to right? I have found the direction sticks and the button that looks like a plus witch I assume is your up down left and right button.that is on the left there are also 4 buttons on the right side. I am not sure what these would be for. also there are 2 buttons on the back on the left and right. and there are 2 buttons in the middle that look rectangular and like little lines. I also just to be safe ordered the same controller but the 710 moddle. it looks the same but has a few extra buttons. I would also like to know if I need to install the cd's that came with these controllers?each of them have cords atached to them. or is this a case of plug and play? many thanks. from Mich. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] problum configuring the usb controler
Hi tom and all. I looked at the users guide for mota under the section about joysticks. I am having a bit of trouble configuring the different buttons on the controller. the controller is your standard button controller with the 4 round buttons on the right side the plus sign button on the left and 4 little buttons in the middle. and then there are the 2 different joy sticks that move forward and back and left and right. the problem I am having is I get in to the part of the menu were it says configure joystick and I say yes then it says press a button to draw weapon and to walk and all of that. that is the issue I am having problems with is how to configure these buttons for this. any help you can give me regarding this would be grate from Mich. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, April 22, 2011 1:02 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] I just receaved my Logitech F510 Rumble Gamepad and have a few questions. You start by enabling joystick support. Hopefully once you do that it will initialize and plug and play the device you have enabling it for use with the game. Now, you go into configure joystick and select an action you want to map. Let's assume here you select fire weapon. You press enter on that and it will ask you to press a button to map. You pick up your joystick and press the button you want to map to the fire control. It will asign it to your joystick profiler, and then take you back to the configure menu. If that does not happen then there could be a problem with your joystick. One common issue I've been getting from users using the F510 and F710 is they don't have the controller correctly configured for DirectInput. Instead, sometimes the controller ships with XInput by default, and you simply have to flip the switch on the front over to DirectInput. Since MOTA still uses DirectInput 8 instead of XInput if you have it set to XInput it won't work. Another is if you just installed the device make sure to reboot before configuring it. Sometimes it doesn't detect it right off, and you have to try again. HTH On 4/22/11, Mich mi...@eastlink.ca wrote: Hi tom and all. Regarding blind adrenaline, we've not done nearly as much marketing in the U.K. as we should, but as soon as I finish our next game for the card room site sometime in the next two weeks, I'm gonna polish off a few small things in code on the site, then start some more aggressive marketing. at that point BA will not only be the site with the most online games for the blind to play, but also the card games with by far the most features per game, a fact that a lot of potential blind gamers out there don't know. I haven't done much to market BA really overall, as the site has been far more popular than I thought it would be to start with , and I know very little about what marketing options are available in the UK, advertising on UK sites aimed at the visually impaired, possible radio interviews, podcasts, etc. So if you have any suggestions where folks that patronize RNIB might frequent, I'd be glad to do my part to help them realize what is available in the wider world of accessible entertainment that can be had on the cheap. As people might know, I've been doing a lot of work on the audiogames.net database and something rather odd struck me. I'm finally adding in descriptions for the azabat games (not the least because the developer did send me the demo cd about a year ago and I stil haven't updated them). Azabat is the only developer of audiogames sold through the rnib. This is of course because the Azabat's aim, of providing nice old blind people with easy games to play at exaubitant prices (can you tell I'm not impressed!), goes along very much with the rnib, an organization who quite literally don't notice visually impared people under the age of 60 or so exist, mostly because younger people are less likely to give them donations in their will, I'm serious! at a so called information day the rnib spent about two hours just talking about will donations to them, --- and most of the rest of the time saying how great they were providing dayly living skills services the amount of times myself, or another member of my family (most recently my dad in a survay), has given them what for over this, whether it's about what books they record (sinse their main producer of accessible books in this country given that the government does bugger all), or about what services they provide, they really! don't like the idea that people younger than about 60, or who have interest outside knitting and braille crosswords exist (I'm serious, there are several amagazines devoted to knitting patterns alone, but nothing whatsoever on roleplay). And if you tell them this they ignore you (the survey lady slammed the phone down on my dad after he'd said this). Anyway, getting the wranting train under control,my point is azabat, dispite producing games which are no better (and in many case not as good), as others around even in the same catagory like the recently released pontes backgammon (lacking graphics but having online play), and all of the spoonbill and blind adrenaline type stuff, yet have a huge record in this country simply! because they have had publicity through the Royally nasty inhibition of the blind, aka the rnib (oooh, I made a funny!). This doesn't seem correct, but I am now wondering what can be done about it. The business of sending myself to site village, the uk tech show didn't really advance much unfortunately mostly due to booking costs and such, but possibly a more reasonable organization such as Guide dogs (who do a lot more than train dogs, I've been skeeing, touring egypt, cycling and goodness knows what with their holiday crew in the past) would be open to discussion, especially sinse they do deal with blind people who aren't the sterriotypical poor old useless individuals the rnib think they are. I've already introduced a friend of mine who does voluntry tech support at a charity for helping disabled computer users in her local area to audiogames.net and pcs games so she can show people some of the fun things their computers will do. When i red The only computer games sold by the rnib It made me actually pretty

Unreasonable I think. Getting the rnib on board is a dead loss, but I will see about talking to other organizations such as action for blind people and guide dogs. Also, I'm quite willing to act as part time demonstrator to any given organization or person, so if you arranged for instance a demo to a redistributer or advertizer in the Uk I'd be prepared to head down there with my laptop and show stuff off personally, provided I had something towards travel costs and accommodation. this offer goes pretty much for any dev in fact. So far, I've been able to jump over at least four or five barrels, but keep getting knocked out by a bird, even though I'm ducking. Sometimes, I try ducking as soon as I land, but then get knocked out by another barrel or something. How do you get past the birds? As for feature suggestions, it would be nice if you could skip the cutscenes at the start of the level, and have more than one life, sort of like in Donkey Kong, where you had three at the start of the game. [Audyssey] are there any blind games where people can go on quests and play with other players on line?
Hi all. I had a question. I have seen allot of different audio games but I am wondering if the blind community has any games that have audio and are like fps but where you can go on quests and play online with other players? I am kind of thinking of the games that the sighted people have like say something like Age of Conan. I remember when I was little and I used to like playing Eamon and I remember some time ago some one had talked of bringing this game to the windows platform as a audio game. I am wondering did that ever get off the ground? I just am wondering if the audio games community has any games like this? I was thinking of this because I watched the big bang theory ep where Penny was addicted to playing the on line game Age of Conan and so thought I would ask if any blind people have played this or if we even have anything remotely similar to this in a audio game or like eamon. many thanks. from Mich. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] are there any blind games where people can go on quests and play with other players on line?
Hi Tom yes that is what I was talking about. hth. from Mich. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 1:13 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] are there any blind games where people can go on quests and play with other players on line? Hi Dark, I think what Mich is talking about here is the newer real time roll playing games for the PC and other game consoles where you have real time movement etc much like an FPS game, but you can compete and play out a number of quests online via a dedicated game server or play solo on your game console. Something like Star Wars Old Republic, for example, is probably more like what Mich is talking about here. In a game like Star Wars Old Republic you play the game as though it were a third-person action shooter, but it is a roll playing game with hundreds of quests or missions that can be played out solo or online via a dedicated server. Like a text based rpg you can select a race, job class, name of character, and home world to start off from, but the style of game play is more like a third-person game all in real time with audio, 3d graphics, and so on. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that FPS games have evolved away from games like Quake and Doom, and FPS and TPS style games, are more like RPGs with hundreds of missions/quests, the custom character creation, and the old text based RPGs like sryth can't hold a candle to them. FPS games and your text based RPG games have all been rolled into one thing these days. HTH On 8/5/11, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi Mich. i'm slightly confused, sinse you mention both online fps games involving quests, such as unreal tournament (though i believe that is mostly coop and pvp battles rather than actual quests), and games like Eamon which is purely text based. About the first, the answer is no, not yet. As to the second however, there are lots of brouser based and mud based online text games where you can play with other people, such as Sryth, core exiles, alterean, materiamagica, new worlds ateraan etc. just check on audiogames.net for the brouser based games, and use one of the mud connector sites for the mud games, though i'd strongly recommend alterean sinse with it's soundpack it's really more of an audio game than a text based one. Level 2 was much as I actually imagined any 2d move ledge section in a platformer like the airman jumps from mega man to work in audio, with sounds for the various moving ledges as they move that the player has to caluclate distance betwen. Three was tough until I worked out that I was supposed to center the sound of the chimps, rather than their projectiles. I also liked the variety of chimp slaughtering sounds there, it made the level much more fun ;D. Level five was sort of amusing, and now I'm on level 6 in the underground maze. I really liek the way different areas are marked out by different litle bits of nes music, which gives a distinct sense of background and progress, however I must admit there are a couple of basic audio maze navigation commands that I'm rather missing, namely a way to tell what direction your facing, and possibly an ability to speak your coordinates. I'm certainly not stuck, and will enjoy exploring the maze, but if Jim's planning on any other maze exploration type of games in future along these lines (something which would be fun), I'd like to see at least these commands added, just to give the player a bit more information, especially for people who's ability to streight out mental map isn't as good (I wound up turning back the way I faced and dying in a river I'd already crossed which wasn't good). I certainly like the use of audio landmarks etc, but perhaps these commands could be added, especially as I said, if Jim is thinking of doing something else with a maze next, perhaps a hole game of them. I'm thinking of something loosely based on the popular Castlevania series by Nintendo. As there isn't anything like this for the VI audio games community I felt it would be a nice break from MOTA, and something we can all enjoy for the Halloween season. Since the G3D engine is now at 1.0 stable it shouldn't take too long to produce a basic game within a couple of weeks. The only question I have for you guys is format. Now, I am well aware the original Castlevania series were all side-scrollers. I am tempted to do that given that it would fit the genre, but I'm also eager to sink my teeth into a full 3d environment. After all, the G3D engine was specifically designed for 3d FPS style game play. So here is the question. Would you guys and girls prefer a full 3d FPS type game, or would you like a 2d side-scroller more or less based on Castlevania? Thanks. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Perilous Hearts preorders?
Hi Philip. I for one would definitely consider placing a pre order for this game. if the audio demo is anything to go on then I can't wait to play it. and I for sure would be very happy to place a pre order for this game tidal. from Mich.- Original Message - From: Philip Bennefall phi...@blastbay.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2011 5:24 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Perilous Hearts preorders? Hi all, I'm really very happy with the response I received for the game audio demo of Perilous Hearts, and so I wanted to ask the community a question. Would you consider placing a preorder for this game if the possibility was there? I know that the history of game preorders has been rocky in this community, but the difference in my case would be that you would agree to a small contract before ordering that basically would say: 1. You get a slightly discounted rate when you preorder. 2. We give you a definite release date. If the game is not released on this exact date or earlier, within a 24 hour period, you are entitled to a full refund. 3. You would not have any kind of special privilege when it comes to requesting feature x, but I would certainly pay more attention to suggestions from preorder users provided that I personally thought they were good ones. Naturally, if I went down this root I would put up a playable demo of the game at the same time as I made preordering available. This would not include all the cut scenes etc that the finished game will contain and it would still use Sapi, but the game play would stretch as far as level 2 which is where the real demo will also end. The reason I am considering this is because the funds for the game are running out, and so I cannot justify spending a lot more money on it out of my own pocket. But if I had some money from preorders I would be able to invest that to make the game the best it can possibly be. I would very much appreciate feedback on this. Thanks! Re: [Audyssey] Game concepts BGT Version 1.1 Released!
Hi just throwing in my 2 sence worth on this. as a blind gamer who first started out with shades of doom and then moved on to alien out back, monkey business, and judgment day etc. I to have seen the trend of audio gamers and games to keep playing games like space invaders types of games. there seems to me for sure a few different types of games for the audio game community fps, card games or puzzle games or space invaders games. I to would like to see a very complex game as well. When I was a kid and had some sight I used to play super Mario 1 and 3 with my sister. I also used to play tmnt as well on the original Nintendo system. I also was quite good at duck hunt and clay shooting and this was the case even after I lost my sight at 6. I also can remember playing the game Eamin for the old apple 2e pc. now that is a game I would like to see be able to be played as a audio game. or even the super mario games. well these are my thoughts on this topic. from Mich. - Original Message - From: dark d...@xgam.org To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, November 17, 2011 1:35 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Game concepts BGT Version 1.1 Released! Hi jeremy. I think possibly you were comparing audio games slightly too much to indi graphical games, where there are always many developers of various skill levels who influence each other. With audio games that is simply not the case. While I do believe that back around the year 2000 after the release of troopanum there was something of a trend with arcade games, this had pretty much died out by the time I started playing audio games myself, indeed when liam announced judgement day in 2006, most people's reaction was another space invaders game? oh noo! As it turned out he was able to do something pretty amazing with unlockables and extras, but stil even at that stage people wanted something with a litle more complexity, however the more complex the game the fewer people have the skills to do it, so we've seen few examples. For instance, swamp is actually the first first person shooter game in 5 years sinse technoshock was developed, and there are only two other audio games that could legitimately be called fp shooters, have weapons, detailed combat etc, shades of doom and technoshock (possibly gma tank commander if you just go on perspective and weapon mechanics and ignore the fact your driving a tank). Even if we drop the shooter aspect and just talk about fully first person games, we stil have only two more examples, Sarah and terraformers. So, as I said I'd love to see a fully realized project, either that or someone showing how to do things like first person in bgt, so that everyone learning with bgt can try something different. Ultimately this all comes back to the old one I've mentioned before, judgement over reactivity. I'd say it's not any one style or genre audio games need to move away from specifically, it's the mindset of here it, react. Even Moriginal super Mario brothers is a complex game, sinse the speed at which mario moves, the hight at which he jumps relative to holding the button, his stopping distance and his speed relative to enemies are all calculated to require the player to learn, practice and employ spacial awareness in calculating the game objects. Thus the player not only gets used to what threats are coming up, but also how to best control marrio in the game, what sort of distance to leave etc. This aspect, this judgement and immertion in game mechanics rather than working basically on fast instant reactions which can be quickly learnt is imho the thing game develoeprs need to think about most in audio. I know for a fact if I play superliam, despite not playing for a long time, I can do just as well as before. here enemy, shoot enemy! here pit, hit up arrow and hammer right to jump. If however I stick on marrio, odds are it'd take me a good few lives, just reminding myself of the mechanics! This isn't a bad thing in some games, indeed rythm action games make a hole genre out of it, however in audio games we've seen it waay! too much. This is also obviously something which all your games thus far had very much Aprone, and all the more reason I'd like to see you work on a really major project, sinse I think like Entombed it could be a real landmark and occupy people for years to come! Hi Jeremy, Yes, you definitely raise some very good points in your message. As you pointed out the biggest problem in communicating with sighted developers and the public at large is ignorance on their part. Most sighted people have never met a blind person before, and even if they have there is no way of knowing what their experience was if any. Its our job to correct their impressions through by educating them a step at a time, and to do it in a way that makes us look like intelligent, competent, and mature individuals who have something worthwhile to say about their products and services. Its for that reason every time I see a poorly written message on Audyssey or some other access list I inwardly cringe. I can't tell you how many blind individuals just shoot off a message filled with poor grammar, lack of proper punctuation, and spelling errors. Like it or not if a sighted person reads those messages we will be judged one and all as not very intelligent, as lacking communication skills, etc. Bottom line, if we want the mainstream public's respect we have to work for it, and not forgo proper language and writing skills for convenience sake. Here at Audyssey we considered adding proofreading to the list guidelines to improve the quality and clarity of the posts. Unfortunately, there were some individuals that took serious offense to that, and felt that the moderators were going too far. All I can draw from their reaction is they don't care about being taken seriously and want the rest of the sighted world to view us negatively, because that's exactly what will happen if they send a poorly written message to a person or company who has no experience with the blind. In short, good communication skills will go a long ways to bridging the gap between the blind and sighted communities. This one would involve a name change, but this is in my personal opinion the best one I've come up with thus far. Here is the description of the new storyline. Let me know what you think of it. TOMB HUNTER THE TEMPLE OF LIFE When world renown archeologist, Dr. Angela Carter, uncovers the entrance to an underground Egyptian temple near Abydos, believed to be the site of the legendary Osiris Stone--a magical artifact that can grant the owner eternal life--billionaire industrialist, Arthur Vanderbilt, will stop at nothing to get his hands on it. When Dr. Carter refuses to retrieve and give Vanderbilt the Osiris Stone he sends an armed team of mercenaries to Egypt to take the Osiris Stone by force if need be. It soon becomes a race against time as Angela Carter attempts to retrieve the Osiris Stone before Arthur Vanderbilt Something that is easier said than done. As Angela makes her way through the Temple of Life searching for the Osiris Stone she will have to battle a number of enemies including armed mercenaries, sword wielding skeletons, giant crocodiles, poisonous snakes, and the occasional 3,500 year old ancient mummy. She will have to use her superior intelligence to solve puzzles and avoid deadly traps such as: bronze spikes, poison darts, hot pools of boiling lava, large chasms, and other hazards. Along the way she will pick up rare and valuable jewels and treasure. Now, obviously you and I couldn't see that, but descriptions of what she looks like naked could be just as erotic. Like who ever listens to that? Although, I have some adult games in mind I could create. One of them is based on an old console game called x-man or something like that. You basically run through a maze, naked of course, and you have to avoid saws, fire pits, and other traps that will kill you. If you successfully navigate the maze there is a sexy blonde in the last room you can...Well...Have fun with as a reward. :D I figured rather than having the video of the guy and the blonde I could take some anonymous audio clips from a porn movie to serve as background audio with some kind of verbal description of the action on screen. Although, having any of the SAPI voices reading the description probably would be a turn off. Lol! Anyway, one way of improving upon the classic game idea is have a series of random girls in each room, mix them up, and build in multiple levels and mazes so you have to do it with all 10 girls before you win the game. I'm bringing this up because of personal interest, because this is a gaming list, not necessarily just computers, and because I seriously think some folks would find this interesting. When I was a kid, I loved playing Lazer Tag, that's with a z and it's branded. My brothers and I had loads of fun shooting at each other, and they didn't always win, either. My set was basically just a couple of blasters that you velcroed onto your arm with a trigger and a button, with which you had unlimited ammo, a huge blast you could only use once, and a shield button that gave you a dinky five second protection from damage and sounded somewhat like a washing machine on overload. The health meter beeped at a certain rate to let you know how banged up you were, and the whole thing was so simple that to call it accessible is a joke, because it wasn't complicated enough to be unaccessible. A lot of my friends played Laser Challenge, which was nearly as accessible, but it was incompatible with my gun, so we never really played together, and why should a parent by another perfectly good laser tag system. Well, Lazer Tag with a z and Laser Challenge all kind of flopped away like used fads, not for me but for average consumers. I've been looking online for decent laser tag style stuff for years, now, with little success, unless I wanted to pay out the nose on Ebay or Amazon. However, in the space of just a month or so, I struck gold. My mom actually pointed out the product while we were talking about toys I might get for my kids, just as a neat little thought. She didn't know how meaningful it was for me. She told me about Light Strike laser tag, a new system from WowWee toys, a reputable company, most recently, before Light Strike, known for Paper Jams products. While researching this awesome system, I came across the Phoenix LTX, now the Nerf Two-Player Laser Battle System, yet another relatively new system based on an older, more expensive platform. I'm going to give a very brief overview of what I found from both systems, and what I want to know is do any people on this list care to have me do a more extensive review, possibly in podcast or youtube form, of the light Strike stuff, which I've actually handled and am in the process of purchasing? I can add to the plethora of reviews out there, but mine would add a few from the blind perspective. If you like, let me know. Anyway, I'll tell you about the Phoenix first, then I'll write on Light Strike, then I'll compare and contrast. The Phoenix LTX, which I'll shorten to LTX, is a roughly $70 U.S. set of two pistol-style laser guns. They have a Nerf sort of look to them, according to friends I've asked. They host switches and sliders to control any functions for setting up a game, unusual in an age of buttons and touchscreens. the LTX

Michael, to be fair, you should give the games that are indeed playable on the wii a chance, rather than just writing them off as not playable simply because you can't go through menus. And what exactly is wrong with memorization? It's attitudes like that, the lack of willingness for change that has kept audio games in a rut for so long and produced so many good but similar games. Personally, I think menus don't need to be voiced, at least, main menus shouldn't. In game menus are a different thing, but it should be good enough for people to read the documentation and get the main menu into their heads, and then work based from memory. Just my personal opinion though. One last note... Michael, if you find a game which is playable, or try out a game given on this list, odds are at least one of us might have knowledge of the menus or at least the important ones. And if not, if the game sounds interesting, one of the people with sighted assistance will get it, figure it out and post the results. This is why I almost exclusively play fighting games... other than the genre we can get into the most, I don't need any sighted assistance at all, figuring out menus is something I can do on my own, since, funnily enough, most fighting games have a similar main menu structure. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Basically, what I want to know is how many people here actually use the USA Games blog, and if you want us to keep it. If not we are in favor of removing Wordpress from the USA Games site and go back to writing up news related items in html as needed. That will prevent people from commenting on articles, making suggestions, etc but will also get rid of the constant spam to the website. Of course, there are ways we can control the spam by black listing IP Addresses where the spam originates from, black list domains and e-mail addresses, etc but such methods tend to restrict access from perfectly legit users as well. We hate to begin black listing blocks of IP Addresses from say Hotmail knowing that a certain amount of VI gamers might actually be on Hotmail and be black listed simply because the server happens to be hammering our site with spam. Your goal as the car stereo thief is to do as many quick snatches on as many cars as you can. You're equip with giant bolt cutters to smash the car windows and cut the dashboard out of the way then it's rip and run while the car alarm attracts a few cats and nothing else. You get extra points for players with Tupac Shakur or Puff Daddy CD's in them. The more expensive the car the more challenging the theft. If you go for the easy pickings, you won't get many trophies, but if you try for the Bentley, Lamborghini Aventador and Gallardo, Rolls Royce, or Bugatti's you may get more than you bargained for. There could be a driver toting heat or an angry bodyguard ready to ice you. For one thing the way the Grand Theft Audio games are designed they have a very open world format. That is the player can freely steel stereos from many different cars and travel between cities, don't have to listen to the songs in any particular order, and there is a lot of music to listen to. Especially, if the player purchases and downloads the various expansion packs that contain MP3's from Abba to Ziggy Marley. In other words, it is nearly limitless music play. Something to do with language problems. I have to mention too that if you want to play the game and have the japanese text read to you as more than gibberish, you'll have to change the language for unicode problems in the control pannel. - Original Message - From: Mich mi...@eastlink.ca To: gamers @audyssey.org gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, December 03, 2012 6:47 AM Subject: [Audyssey] problum running play.exe Bokurano daiboukenn Hi when I try to run the play.exe for Bokurano daiboukenn I get the following arror error 39 in line -1 OK and then I get the following Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Re: [Audyssey] Two-Fer-One E-mail: Laser Tag and iOS Game
Hi I look forwerd to the reviews of lazer tag. from Mich. - Original Message - From: Dakotah Rickard dakotah.rick...@gmail.com To: gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, December 10, 2012 6:56 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Two-Fer-One E-mail: Laser Tag and iOS Game Hi List. I want to appologize, because now I'm just procrastinating on the whole Laser Tag thing. I meant to get reviews for two different and accessible systems out this weekend, in case someone wants something for christmas. Depending on how school ends up, I'll try to get it done sometime this week, though it's going to be a challenge, because I kind of want it to be pro-quality, and I've got two iPhones and limited experience to work with. Hopefully, between a few people I know, it'll look and sound good. In case anyone wants to do any preemtive research, I'm going to be reviewing Light Strike by WowWee Electronics and the LTTO system from Hasbro. Now, as for the iOS game, I want to recommend the game ErnCon again. This developer is really great. He's just added stereo positioning and distance-based volume control for auditory navigation of your starfighter through the various enemies surrounding you. The game is a great one, and he's not done adding to it yet. Also, he's very open and eager for feedback on the accessibility of the game. You will need to turn Voiceover during actual gameplay, but it's definitely worth checking out. When I figure out how, I intend to submit it to Applevis, unless someone else wants to do that. Either way, happy gaming, and keep your eyes peeled for those reviews. Allt he gm seemed to be doing at that point was pandering to those who liked to compare stats with all those raid monsters, and putting in sinks to take your tocans. Frankly, given that even in 2009 there were 400 paying members, each of which contributed 20 usd a year, that should've been more than enough to keep the game going. This is why I prefer ce, since all the commercial items there are very carefully balanced and none are necessary at all, or puppet nightmares where you can pretty much earn the in game currency in spades if you play anyway. It also helps that puppet nightmares, while it doesn't have a realistic combat system as you describe, does have a very detailed one involving three pokemon like creatures battling three enemies. You can for instance have one of your soul puppet's use a skill which increases the ennemy's damage to fire, another use a skill on an ally which increases their magic, and the third with it's increased magic use the firewall skill to blow your enemy away. the only problem with pn is that there is no in game battle descriptive text or descriptive text for the skills, which is actually a shame since such text does! exist in the columns of skill descriptions and affects which exist in the games' help system, however when I suggested to the gm that he make this info available in the game itself he said while hwas quite happy to make access changes, such increases in text descriptions would spoil the look of the interface and in his view only be of bennifit to blind people, (I did point out the prevailance of text based games but he didn't respond). a shame, since in the matter of labelling images and such he's otherwise been great, and the story text to the game is fairly unique. either way one game which does! have that sort of combat system is the glulx rpg kerkerkruip, in fact I'd highly recommend it, particularly the new version which fixes one of the major problems I had with previous versions of the game and actually lets you gain experience by fighting monsters, rather than just swap your abilities around meaning that you can now progress by winning random combats where as before defeating the wrong monster at the wrong time could actually cost you the game. That is the spoil alert for everyone reading this now in fact. If you are playing the shadow gate game and don't want hints, do not read further... Shawn, those things you mentioned were not bugs in the usual sense. There is several degrees of seperation between an atari port of a visually played nes game, and the audio version of the same game on a diffrent platform in an accessible format. There will be diffrences, and this isn't all that unusual. In the sighted world, especially with side scroller games or action games diffrent content will be snuck in for diffrent systems to keep the game fresh and to give incentive to buy the game for those diffrent consoles. For this game, I don't know. Nina might have omitted things out of forgetfulness, or it might have existed in the same way as on the atari port. Either way, those things you mentioned are not bugs. Secondly, the rope does do as you say, but you have to be a little more clever then the atari walkthru to figure it out. Use that sharp mind of yours and check out everything around you, and in your inventory, and you should be able to solve the puzzle. As for the use and select menu choices...ironically I mentioned the same exact thing to Ian a while back. I guess, for the time being, the best way to remember which does what is to think of use as useing it on yourself, or useing something like an unlocked door, or a bridge or even a staircase. Select is usually done when you want to use an item on some element in a room, like a pool, or a monster, or you want to use an item on another item, like a burning torch on an unlit torch. Lastly, yeah, the music is retro. I think it is quaint and takes me back to the nineties, lol. There is actually some shadow gate music called overclocked where people take old video game music and rock out with it, or turn it into disco, lol. http://ocremix.org/ al The truth will set you free Jesus Christ of Nazareth 33A.D. - Original Message - From: shaun everiss To: Gamers Discussion list Sent: Monday, March 11, 2013 1:40 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Brief Description of Shadow Gate --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Inquisitor update.
Hello is this update just for the pc or for the IPhone as well? from Mich. - Original Message - From: michael barnes c...@samobile.net To: gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, March 17, 2013 6:30 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Inquisitor update. Hello. Two information for you all that I recieved from the developer of the Inquisitor. The strong box and coffin does not have anything in them. They are just for looks and to confuse the player. The game will have a update that will be release sometime this week. The update will fix the issue where after you have examine the dead body you can go further in the game. It will also fix some other bugs with the game aswell. So if you have made it to the town then you need to wait for the update to do anything else in the game. The developer told me to let everyone know that I know that have the game that he is working on it as fast as possible. He also said that they are near the end of finishing up the next chapter, and are in the begining stages of the third chapter. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Inquiry From Popular Mechanics
Hello. as a blind gamer my self. I like the games shades of doom a audio version of the old doom game. I like it since it is a fps game meaning a first person shooter game and those are the games that I like. the object of the game is to kill monsters and things and shut down an experiment. this game is made by gma games. there website is www.gmagames.com I also like Jim kitchen's games. he makes free sapi games and window games. his website is kitchen'. I also like q 9. this is made by blastbay studios. the object of this game is to get the little alien q9 back to his ship. wile battling things like bares, bats, and other things. you have to go through several worlds like the jungle world, the cave world, the mountain world and the death world. The audio game community has allot of other audio games. some of witch can be played on line. one that comes to mind is swamp. it is another zombie shooting game. The audio game community though has nothing like anything like say grand theth audo. all though others on this list might be able to shed more light on that since there are gamers and developers on this list. to me what makes a good audio game is good sounds and a good story line. I tend to go for the fps games my self since I am not in to txt adventure games. I hope I have helped ancer your questions and feel free to quote me in your article. my name is Mich Verrier I am blind and I am 29 and I live in New Liskeard Ontario Canada. - Original Message - From: Ashley Taylor ashley.p.tay...@gmail.com To: gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 7:42 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Inquiry From Popular Mechanics Hello, I am a journalist writing an article about computer games for the blind and would really appreciate your input. Please only reply to this post if you are willing for me to quote you in my article (for the Popular Mechanics website). It would be helpful if you could describe yourself as you'd like me to describe you in the article. What are the qualities of a good computer game for the blind? What does it have to have to work well for someone who can't see? For blind or visually impaired gamers, what are your favorite audio games, and why? Which games designed for sighted people are these most analogous to? What are some examples of games for the blind that I can play online? What do you think is the most interesting factoid about games for the blind?
