[H] Word 2002 Glitch
I'll admit. I'm now MS KB'd out after searching for 2 hours. Have MS WORD 2002 (10.4219.4219, SP2). For some reason the Find tool (edit/ctrl+F) seems to get stuck ON after the first use. I know this because the PageUP and PageDown arrows change to BlueDots that do not reset back to arrows when the Find tool is closed. The only way I can clear it is to save the file and reopen. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is there a fix besides a complete upgrade to a newer office suite? If no, I'll just go back to O97. Thanks for any help. Am confused about my new network capable printer. Don't know how to put it naked on my W2KproSP4 client based LAN. No. I do not have a domain server. No I do not have a print server operating from some client. I thought I did not have to do this. I do notice, after a period of time, the there is a new 'something' called Brn_8388c0 that pops up in NetNeighborhood under workgroup. I suspect this may be the assigned name of the printer. Am I correct? Because I use the 10.0.0.x IP series on my LAN, I did use the Brother NetAdmin tool to change the new /workgroup/ objects ip addy from its' default 169.x.x.x addy to 10.0.0.2/255.255.255.0. That took. Now, do I just go back to my lan clients and install this new /workgroup/Brn_8388c0/ device as the chosen Network Printer? Will I have to install the printer's drivers to each client PC? I realize this may read very pedestrian, but I've never had a true net printer before. Yes, I've RTFM, and several other Brother pdf's regarding other admin sw packages. OKay. But, I'm still using AMD TBirds and do not know much about all the new classes of cpu. Re: [H] mem question
Harry, Thanks for the informative reply. I'm still thinking about some of it. To answer some of it, a) believe the memory voltage is 3.3vdc. b) the motherboard is a dual Pentium Pro from Micronics with only one Pentium Pro 200. c) the chipset is the 440FX. d) the PC is a Micron Millennia Pro2, revB. e) motherboard has 4 x 168-pin DIMM sockets. There are no SIMM sockets. The system currently has 4 Micron DIMMS, each 32MB, that are ECC, buffered, and EDO. I do NOT know whether they are also registered. Suspect that they are based on what my Brother said he paid for them way back when! I have contacted the tech support folk at MPC.com (current support of all Micron PCs and have been told that the Millennia Pro2 was tested and certified to use 128MB EDO DIMMS. And that the DIMMS do NOT have to be buffered or ECC or registered. Just 60ns or faster. I do admit to some confusion here. But I do remember reading some spec or technical paper (prior to DDR Ram and Rimbus RAM) about changing the outboard notch of the DIMM pwba for inter-operability. I recently took delivery of 4 128MB unbuffered 60ns EDO DIMMS. Somehow the parts puller sent me SDRAM DIMMS. They do not fit my sockets because the outboard locating notch is closer to the center notch than on my current DIMMS. This purchase will be RMA'd on Monday. (Basically, I think Micron just stroked my Brother when he bought this machine back in the 90's.) Anyway, I am seeking help and/or any links to vendors that I can buy some EDO RAM in a DIMM format (168-pin pwba). I want to buy non-ECC, non-registered, Un-Buffered EDO RAM. 50ns or 60ns is fine. I suspect that this old RAM may only be available in the commercial Server support area. I don't have any contacts/links. I am looking for 4x 128MB EDO DIMMS in a 168-pin stick format. If they exist? If not, will have to settle for 4x 64MB EDO DIMMS in the 168-pin stick format. So, Any links? Thanks, Duncan This email scanned for Viruses and Spam by ZCloud.net
RE: [H] Secure web page
Just a thought. Are you trying to check your work from an acct/pw other than yourself? By rights you have admin access and should SEE no additional access quiz. And, I suspect, as admin you would not SEE anything work as you wish. But, that is JMHO. I'd try somebody else's desktop who you have given appropriate rights to you file. It would make things a lot easier, and more secure, if I could just have a password protected to folder to put the excel file in where it opened on line and was not on somebodies hard drive. I checked with Godaddy, the hosting company, and they told me that they do support .htaccess ,so I am trying to set up a password protected folder, but it isn't working. My site has FP extensions. I have created the .htaccess file using this tool http://www.tools.dynamicdrive.com/password/ and put it in new folder . I have then put the .htpasswd file in the _private folder. I've put together some hdw for a new machine (machx). The intent of this machine is to sit between a dsl router (old) and my lan switch. I do not yet know what this machine would be, but I do know what I expect it to do. I want it to be a hdw firewall for my lan AND be a gateway or maybe a proxy to the dsl router from my lan-side machines. [H] oemx.inf files+their registry keys
Understand recent traffic about the Promise ultra133 tx2 eide controller, sort of. I have not had any trouble, until today. My U133 is now showing up with the hated yellow exclamation point in DM. I have tried to reinstall drivers and/or un-install the device several times without much luck. I do notice that no matter where I point W2K for the drivers, W2K chooses its' own location, completes the install, and, again fails. For some reason W2K just will not do/go where I sent it. Odd? I do notice the W2K (sp4 pro) seems to have created oem0.inf through oem15.inf in the winnt/system32/inf location. Several of the these numbered oemx.inf files do discuss the Promise U133 controller at 3 different driver versions, the default MS version, the Promise v2.0.29, and the Promise v2.0.43. The v2.0.43 was was running before the machine was shutdown for a case change. Can the promise-related oemx.inf files be deleted from the inf directory? Will this clean-up or reset the -0005 keys in the control set 001 area of the registry? It does seem that something is badly scrambled, but I'm confused about where to start any un-scramble work.
