Verified local cache files, even scrubbed, downloaded once more again to
repeat, and reconfigured: no joy. steam_appid.txt was in the same place
it's always been and contained the same ID it's always contained.
Client's a non-starter (although I verified local cache anyway) because
client works just fine against (eg) Loki's servers, which presumably are
running orangebox.

Re: [hlds] STEAM Validation Rejected on Source Multiplayer Dedicated Server tool

2011-10-30 Thread Didrole
As a workaround you can launch srcds manually :
Steam/steamapps/accountname/source 2007 dedicated server/srcds.exe -steam
-game tf
It should work if you have the right steam_appid.txt

As it's a bug in steamworks and not in the game itself I doubt it will be
fixed soon.

The problem is in the topic, except the traditional solution (adding

can't seem to find any other.

Don't worry about not being a professional server host when you make
your inquiry -- a lot of folks on the list aren't.

As for your question, before I do any serious digging can you confirm
(I know this sounds silly but..) that you created steam_appid as a txt
file, and not steam_appid.txt.txt? Make sure you have 'hide extensions for
known file types' disabled so that you can verify there is no extension
 duplication.

Re: [hlds] STEAM Validation Rejected on Source Multiplayer Dedicated Server tool

2011-10-29 Thread Chris Green
Hi,

I am think I can add something to this: there is quite the
threadon
the forum. Evidently source dedicated server (steam-delivered version
--
hldsupdatetool / orange-box is still fine) stopped working for multiple
people with the, "Manniversary" update on 10/13. The comments are all the
same, "working just fine before, can't connect to own server after." One
poster claims he got Tony Paloma interested and he said he'd look into it,
but Steam Support won't even acknowledge the problem. After two different
tickets beset by slow response and inapplicable FAQ references in what
responses did return, I finally got a, "we don't support servers." My
experience is not unique.

The only silver lining to the cloud is that the orangebox server works just
fine -- this problem only affects the Steam server. Symptom is, "Steam
validation rejected" on the client side and, "S3: Client connected with
ticket for the wrong game: UserID: 2" on the server console. I even went to
the trouble of copying steam_appid.txt everywhere I could think of, to no
avail.

Bottom line -- it's a real bug in the Steam-delivered version of srcds that
came down with the 10/13 update, is not being acknowledged by official
channels and is causing much frustration.

If anyone on this list has any insight or further information on this
problem, I think quite a few people would be interested.

Thanks,
Chris.

I just wanted to verify my information, after reading through the

hldsupdatetool with -verify_all will update it and resolve the issue?
Is this applicable for HLDS for both Linux and Win32?

Ok, but I already added that to my command line. In fact, I've added it

hldsupdatetool clearly showing -beta swapbeta in the line, and you told

As far as I can tell, unless I made a typo somewhere that I don't see,
I don't think this swapbeta works.

Once again, here are my parameters:

My command line looks like: hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game

I know I don't need the username and password anymore, is that why it's
preventing whatever -beta swapbeta is supposed to do?

You should include "-beta swapbeta" on the command line if you see

Try

You don't have to have the username and password anymore. And I'm not sure if

Just to remind everyone, if you see "Steam Validation Rejected" errors
from your users running a Source server get this BETA update to fix it.
You get it by adding "-beta swapbeta" to the command line. This beta
includes a new steamclient.dll. If you have this error on HL1 based
servers you can also copy this updated binary to those servers to test
the fix.

Do you run any HL1 based servers? Do they exhibit the same bug?

James McKenna wrote:

Hey. Starting yesterday on all my source servers

(2 hl2mp, 1 dods, and 1 hidden source) won't let any players
connect until I restart them.

Now this is strange to me because the servers already reboot
every morning at 7am pacific.

Every player who tries to connect before I reboot it gets this
error: Steam validation rejected.

What causes this?

RE: [hlds] Steam validation rejected

2006-03-15 Thread Alfred Reynolds
Just to remind everyone, if you see "Steam Validation Rejected" errors
from your users running a Source server get this BETA update to fix it.
You get it by adding "-beta swapbeta" to the command line. This beta
includes a new steamclient.dll. If you have this error on HL1 based
servers you can also copy this updated binary to those servers to test
the fix.

Haven't done condebug yet, but cpu/os specs are P4 2,6 ghz 512mb ram,
winxpsp2. All bogus services are disabled and shut down. So only services
needed by system are running, except for hlds and windows media player.

Re: [hlds] Steam validation rejected

2006-03-15 Thread Kevin Ottalini

One thing to remember is that you still have to run the hldsupdatetool
with -beta swapbeta to get the Version 59 dlls that have the fix in them.

The server version string does not change when you run the beta modules,
both will show this:
Protocol version 7
Exe version 1.0.0.7 (hl2dm)
Exe build: 17:13:45 Mar 2 2006 (2672)

Here are the MD5 sums so everyone still having problems can verify that they
are actually running the beta dlls:

Version 58:
d729d4042aa51a3aefc6f47c23a061bb *steamclient.dll
273f80e8e4afc2b0de4d903c893ffb9f *steam_api.dll

Version 59 (Beta):
39c35aff9384a9517cda25e6e006e52f *steamclient.dll
70ec8b011a05d47b1ff53706e68e3add *steam_api.dll

If you don't have a Win32 MD5 tool get this free one:
http://www.toast442.org/md5/md5.exe

Having console logs (rather than server logs) would help, if you put
"-condebug" on the servers startup line it will generate a console.log
for you (note that this file can grow very large, so monitor any servers
you make this change to).

I would also be useful to know about machine configurations of people

i got this on some servers as well. So far deleting the steam catalogs for

I also still have problem with the the STEAM validation rejected
problem on HL1/CS 1.6 servers.

I have tried the DOD Source steamclient.dll like Alfred suggested before.
I even reverted back the 4 files that was updated to the old ones before
the
update was done.(I backed them up before from another server)
Even then i get STEAM validation rejected.
Restart of the servers fix the problem temporarily, but after a few maps
the
"STEAM validation rejected" is back.

I'm starting to think that this problen is not only serverside, but also
clientside.

Really hoping for a solution for this really soon as it is unbearable for
the community right now.

I'm starting to think that this problen is not only serverside, but also
clientside.

Really hoping for a solution for this really soon as it is unbearable for
the community right now.

All my hl1/cs1.6 servers are experiencing the STEAM validation rejected
problem.
And I have tried to use an up-to-date steamclient.dll file on all servers.

If I restart a server it sometimes works, but not for very long :/

As of 11am pacific today my DoD:S server is once again giving steam
validation rejected errors. I guess the beta didn't really fix anything
after all.

Is there any idea as to what is causing this issue? My server was empty

Sorry for all the emails, I felt I should mention that the Beta fixed my

day.) But the hl2mp servers are still troublesome.

My HLDM server has been working fine since the update (48 hours) and the
HL2DM server has been working fine with the -beta (18 hours).
Indeed, thank you Alfred.

That is good to hear. Is anyone still experiencing a problem with HL1
based servers? If so a useful experiment for you to do is sync up a
current Source server install (i.e Day of Defeat: Source with the "-game
dods" parameter to the hldsupdatetool) and then copy the steamclient.dll
from that install into your HL1 install (both engines use the same Steam
support library).

RE: [hlds] Steam validation rejected

2006-03-10 Thread Glenn Dysart
It is severe on my hl1 server running on win2k server.
Same squawk "Got Steam2 authentication from unknown user". Server works fine
after reboot. All day never saw it last more than a few minutes before it
hoses up again.

Do you run any HL1 based servers? Do they exhibit the same bug?

This fix is available via the hldsupdatetool, run it with "-beta
swapbeta" to get it. The fix is only for Source win32 servers at this
time. Please tell me if this solves the validation rejected errors.

I don't believe this can be caused by a configuration issued, I think it
is a bug. I am working on an update for later today with a speculative
fix for the problem.

Re: [hlds] Steam validation rejected

2006-03-10 Thread Kevin Ottalini

This happened on my HL2DM server the first time I ran it after update. I
was unable to connect to the server locally and saw that players were trying
but were unable to attach too.

I restarted the server and the problem went away so I thought it was some
local problem, however I just checked (14 hours later) and the problem is
back again:

Connecting to 67.100.129.86:27015 ...
STEAM validation rejected

Players were able to connect until about 7AM (PST) this morning.

Anyone connecting to that IP:port should see the same problem, I'm going to
leave it stalled for now in case Alfred wants to look at it.

For the HL2DM server:
version
Protocol version 7
Exe version 1.0.0.7 (hl2dm)
Exe build: 17:13:45 Mar 2 2006 (2672)

I do not see this problem on my HLDM (HL1) server which was updated at the
same time.
The only major difference between the two machines is that the HL1 server is
on it's own static IP and the HL2DM server is behind a router.

The HL2DM server is totally stock (no plugins).

I just updated my HL2DM test server which is on a static IP and it appears
to be working ok (no connection problems at startup) but I don't know if it
will stay that way ...

RE: [hlds] Steam validation rejected

2006-03-10 Thread Newbie
Alfred,

I sent you an example of such behavior. In fact, there's nothing in the logs
and I can't see the pattern (e.g. some general occasion which would cause
the bug) so it's really hard to catch this bug. I've seen it on all of my
servers (2xCS:S, DODS and HL2DM).

One of the servers I was working on was doing the same earlier this evening,
I restarted it and it was fine after.

Was a CS 1.6 server running metamod 1.18 and Steambans plugin but on Linux

Same problem here. It happens randomly after several hours of normal server
work. You can also see the message "Got Steam2 authentication from unknown
user" in server console at each connect attempt. That's basically the only
trace that someone tries to connect to your server.
