Re: [hlds_linux] quickplay disabled tags
Geing hit by a critical does suck at times but they effect everyone equally (actually if you do more damage you get higher chance so it SHOULD reward those who are 'better') and have been part of the game since Sep 18th. That should be plenty of time to realize the majority of players enjoy crits because maybe they arne't that good, and getting a crit right when you need it is far, FAR more fun then having to work through 100's of hours to get the kind of proficency at the game a few random crits can make it seem like you have. At that thread, a lot of people listed a lot of things that they hate on the servers. Most mentioned were fake players, modified respawn times, no critical hits, reserve slot kicks, etc. You get the picture. So based on that data and what Valve prefers, certain rules were set. I'm guessing they are keeping the weapons as-is for now. Day 1 of the patch (while my server was up :() saw more than a dozen people who bought the entire pack of new weapons. $25 a pack for some Overpowered weapons, sounds like a deal! Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 servers staying empty
We have had alltalk on since day 1 and because of this things have gotten pretty interesting in the meta game. When a team says going to A do you believe them? Call the bluff? Call the double-bluff? If you say I'm coming with an uber around back does the other team really know or care what's going on? If you're playing on an all-talk server - most times no. I didn't mean to be preachy or rude about running a dedicated server - I've just come across more than a few who feel like they aren't being treated fair because their server is empty. Running a good server is a lot harder than it should be some days. Also to address the REAL point of your message, yes some more on-screen teaching would be nice although I'm not sure how to start approaching that subject. The tutorials are a nice start but don't go very deep. The coaching system is also a great tool, but not an end-all. I think this would call more for a series of instructional YouTube videos or something - laying out basic strategies such as airblasting ubers away, building stuff underwater, dropping the flag when a scout runs by for him to pick it up, etc. Might be a community project your server can do! There you go now you have something to build up your new community - something to bind them together in their quest for multiple head accesories. I can understand that sometimes it's a difficult call. However I've provided all the proof I can along with my ticket that I am the actual owner from Specialattack, and always have been. There's plenty of ways to confirm this. There is just something in general with that steamsupport that they just refuse to help you, no matter what. I can understand you can't just blindly going to reassign ownership, but I've demoted everyone accept for that one member (impossible), otherwise all group activity has always been done from my account. The longest joined admin will be the new owner, its based on how long your in the group. But what darth says is correct, i've done this many times. Just remove all admins except one, let the owner leave and ownership will go to the other person. However in saints example, the last person (owner) is nowhere to be found. Only thing it does is try and kill srcds when its auto-updating, which makes no sense but it wont go tits up either. If you let it kill a screen then it will also kill your auto-update. Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 servers staying empty
I find that a big difference, on Arena its more FFA then teamplay really. At least for me its the race to get the most of the kills on the other team. Alltalk doesn't matter then, tho a nuisance, I mute all cos I want to hear 'm walk/shoot/etc. Would be saying some with CP or Payload maps etc. From: Eric Riemers riem...@binkey.nl To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Friday, 22 July 2011, 10:10 Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 servers staying empty Why not give people the choice? http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=133710 Have this on arena servers, they always vote yes. Re: [hlds_linux] PHP auto reload crashed server.
Keep updated.. I'll finish a better version today that checks if the server exited without proper shutdown possibly with a SM plugin. if it can't rcon into the server it will check a file the SM plugin updates or possibly a DB entry that keeps track of the server being live. When it restarts the server it will wait until it gets the Server is up message before continuing the process of checking if rcon doesn't work. I'll think of something.. Re: [hlds_linux] Server crashes after today's update
Just had a bit of an interesting story on my server - replays initially failed to connect, which I believe caused the process to hang for a while, the map changed, and replays timed out again having a similar effect, and then the server crashed, during which I got a 500 internal server error on crash.steampowered.com. When the server restarted, it crashed AGAIN with the same log posted above. The crash must be related to the new laser weapons. I've seen too many crashes with sentry, ubered soldier and charged hit from the new weapon shooting just before server goes down. All this before tonights update. I'll go to sleep now and report back in 7 hours, see if the crash i got was just freak accident. I'm bzipping up my config/map directories, archiving them and deleting my /tf2 install. I can run like 3 or 4 (more) Killing Floor servers than I already do now for the same resource usage on the system as one srcds instance. I hope you can actually fix this thing some day, valve. Re: [hlds_linux] Team Fortress 2 Update Released
Still crashing here as well... Some people are convinced it's the new Soldier weapons from the Starwars franchise. With how these updates have been in the past (To pull a recent one, Half-Zatoichi)... there's no doubt this is the case. Oh well, with the Items server being down near everyday it at least limits the impact of this, and the last update somewhat. Hopefully there are no further regressions introduced by this update. [hlds_linux] Item Found Event
The July 20th update introduced a bug (feature?) so that Event Item Found is no longer fired. Wiki page: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/July_20,_2011_Patch Valve: Is this in fact a bug, or is it an intentional change? I currently use the item found event in my public ranking/statistics pluginhttps://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=109006and I'd like to know if I need to investigate other options in order to provide item drop tracking. I heard that the crashes often happened with steam / item hickups etc., maybe worth to have a look at that (worth it anyway, getting tired of steam dc's and item servers down etc. while nothing is wrong on our side with it) From: Kyle Sanderson kyle.l...@gmail.com To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Saturday, 23 July 2011, 0:09 Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Team Fortress 2 Update Released Still crashing here as well...
