Re: [info-tech] Calendars
Karl, I use iCal on Mac for my own scheduling and work. Have categories for different buildings, etc. After going to ITEC, Google has Calendars for iGoogle. You may want to take a look at that. You can create categories, such as when out of district. I have not explored it yet but as with other Google apps, you may be able to share just certain things with designated people. When I have a chance to take a look, I will share that. Ann Nicholson did a session on Google stuff, including Google Calendars and has handouts on the ITEC site. [info-tech] Interactive Whiteboards, Document Cameras, etc.
We are working towards ordering interactive whiteboards for our elementary classrooms. I have reread the emails from those that have or are planning to add these to their schools. If any of you could give an update on where you are with the interactive whiteboards - which ones you are using, what you recommend, how they are being used, and any warnings before ordering these. I know a couple of teachers have mentioned the document camera to me but I think it would be a modernized overhead projector. Our superintendent attended a national conference, attended a demonstration of an interactive whiteboard and returned saying he wants them put in all of the elementary classrooms. Re: [info-tech] Laptop Carts
We have two mobile labs in our elementary. One thing I have done is to have a wireless access point set up on the cart itself. When the mobile lab is in a classroom, the base is then connected to the network in the classroom, thus keeping a strong signal for the mobile lab. There is also a printer on the cart connected to the access point to provide for printing to be done in the classroom where the lab is located. Just info to share for what it is worth. Re: [info-tech] Laptops Carts
Mitch, Questions for you to consider are: Who will really be using the mobile lab in the high school? What laptops will you put in the mobile lab? How will the mobile lab be scheduled? As I shared in my previous response, we have two mobile labs in the elementary with ibooks. These were from grants that I received. They are primarily in the second grade classrooms as those teachers have shown their use of them. We have had a mobile lab in the junior high with ibooks but they did not hold up well with the student use. This also was from a grant. They were used for keyboarding because of a lack of regular lab time. That has been changed. Just need to consider where, why and how a mobile lab is used before moving in that direction. Hope this helps. Can't say what you should do, each situation can be different.
