Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting Tables Online

2011-02-09 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Graham,

Move the focus to the line that identifies how many columns and rows are in
the table. The informational line should be just above row 1. Press
function key 8 to select the entire table. If you want to keep the table
layout of columns from left to right and rows up and down intact then use
JAWS key V to bring up the JAWS adjust options dialog, press V to move to
the virtual cursor options and use down arrow to the Select and Copy choice.
Press spacebar until "full content using on screen highlight is selected and
press enter key. Select your options from the adjust options dialog before
using the f8 key.

Take care.

Hi Wayne, this is sure a pain isn't it? Yes, Word 2007 automatically
provides a larger line space everytime yuou enter. This is to display a new
paragraph. Do the following to turn this off completely.

1. alt + O and then P for paragraph.
2. tab to the edit spin box that says after. Once you are there press the
zero on your number row.
3. tab to default hit enter, it says are you sure, hit enter again.
This saves having to go to the ribbon and as well as the check box.

Hello-

I recently purchased an MS Office Suite. I am using Windows 7 64bit. I
started noticing that my Word docs were going to a second page even though
there were only 32 lines being generated. I check the font size and it was
12 pt. I asked a sighted friend to take a look and she told me that there
was a full blank line between each line of text. I found a "Line Spacing"
selection in the menus but even at 1.0 lines I still am getting an almost
full blank line. Any thoughts on how to permanently get rid of the
additional space would be appreciated.

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Access Technology institute for $75. I am using Jaws 12.0.525 with
windows

got the

following reply:

"The JAWS commands for Outlook haven't changed so the textbook is
valid for

JAWS 9 through 12."

Has anyone used this textbook and if so do you think it is worth the
price

and is applicable for JFW 12.0.525?

Hi there everyone,
after visiting the Sirius site, I also experienced the same difficulties. I
typed in my user name and passwword, but did not see the usual link to play the

those who forgot their password.
I will try to hit the guess button to see where that takes me. Also, when my

Hi

While in your browser, press JAWSkey+numpad 6 to open the Settings Center
for JAWS 12. In the search box, type identify. Press tab once and you
will
be on the entry for Identify "same page links". press space to uncheck
it.

Tab to OK and press enter. In JAWS 11 or earlier, JAWSkey+numpad 6 will
open the Configuration manager. The identify "same page links" option is
in

the HTML options in the Settings menu under the Links tab.

No,
a subscription is required. However, Sirius does allow a 7 day trial period to
try it out. it's nice offering talk shows, such as Howard Stern, Rosie radio,
ESPNradio, Playboy channel, book club channels and all music genres you can
think of. give it a shot!

I will have to investigate my Internet Explorer settings to see why alt-d
and f6 do not work. I just did a test and alt-d worked just fine in
FireFox. So, some setting within IE is my problem I assume.

[JAWS-Users] MS Word 2007 issue

2011-02-09 Thread wayne smith

Wayne

Sooo, isn't there supposed to be a keystroke that puts me into the address
bar in Internet Explorer so that I can copy the URL of the page I am on?
Insert a says that is what it does, but it doesn't. It only reads the
URL, but I can't copy it. I can do it through properties using the
applications menu, but a single keystroke or two would be quicker. Have I
just forgotten how to do this the easy way?

Unless I am doing something wrong, neither f6 nor alt-d does what I
expect. Firstly, if I turn on keyboard help, neither f6 nor alt-d claim
to do anything. Secondly, when in internet explorer if I go to a page,

Give that man a cigar. Rick, I am not absolutely certain that my mucking

trouble finding the address with the JAWS cursor, to click on it. I

did the whole uncheck lock the tool bar thing, and recheck it, and now
alt-d works consistently.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Snagging a URL

2011-02-09 Thread Dan Rossi

Rick has come closest so far. Thanks Rick.

Like I said, after I hit alt-d or f6, hitting control-c says "nothing
selected" If I then hit control-a and then control-c, it again says,
"nothing selected". Trying to paste at that point is fruitless, since
nothing was selected. I have tried, and nothing pastes.

using the JAWS cursor, I can see the address, but need to click on it if I
want to select it.

I tried the instructions that Rick gave, and they worked, however, as a
test, I then closed IE, and tried again, and no joy. I got the "nothing
selected" warning again.

I will play around with this some more since it seems promising. But as
configured, alt-d and f6 do not work at all for me at this point in time.
Either my address bar isn't where something expects it to be, or some
other setting in IE is causing the address bar not to play nicely with
this keystroke.

Yes, address bar is checked in my view / tool bar menu.

So, I have not seen this focus issue on Windows 7 yet and I have been running 7
since April 2010.

The Alt d has always worked for me and it worked here just now with JAWS

You are correct that keyboard help does not tell you anything about the
key stroke.

Unless I am doing something wrong, neither f6 nor alt-d does what I
expect. Firstly, if I turn on keyboard help, neither f6 nor alt-d claim

to do anything. Secondly, when in internet explorer if I go to a page,
then hit alt-d or f6, it says, ""address edit". I do not see a URL at

I

Also, if I look in the keyboard manager under either default or internet

I reinstalled and do not find it any better.

I have also been having trouble with this same issue. Using Jaws 12, and

I also seem to have trouble with Outlook Express, again, with the same

It gets mighty confusing, as I'll have to do a say line command to get the

[JAWS-Users] Dictionary question retraction.

2011-02-09 Thread Dan Rossi

Never mind.

Interestingly, I get different results when triple clicking numpad 5 on
the "symbol" character depending on if I am actually in the email client,
verses when I exported the email message. When in the email client triple
click says "character 9168" When I entered backslash 9168 into the
dictionary manager, with a replacement word of just a space, it now
recognizes and correctly replaces "symbol" with a space.

Thanks for all the help that was about to come my way.

[JAWS-Users] Dictionary question.

2011-02-09 Thread Dan Rossi
After upgrading from JAWS 10 to 11, I have run into a small issue. While
reading some of my emails, I hear the word, "symbol" pronounced somewhat
often. It has something to do with how my email client is interpreting
the character set used by other email clients.

In JAWS 10 it seemed to ignore these and treat these "symbol" characters
as spaces. JAWS 11 wants to say "symbol" every time it encounters them.

Triple clicking numpad 5 says it is character 160. I am trying to
convince the JAWS dictionary manager to substitute a space for character
160. I tried cutting and pasting the character in, and just putting a
space in the replacement section, but it still announces symbol. I tried
putting the space in single quotes. I tried entering backslash 160 but
that didn't seem to work either.

Any suggestions?

Found this and hope it helps:
Mouse Over Effects
HTML allows the author of a page to set an OnMouseOver
attribute for most
HTML elements to run specified code such as JavaScript or
Visual Basic
Script when the mouse pointer is moved over the HTML
element. Often this is
used to momentarily display text, graphics, or links. JAWS
now recognizes
the OnMouseOver attribute, and if it is set to display text
or links as part
of the page, JAWS provides access to that information. Press
INSERT+CTRL+ENTER to simulate moving the mouse pointer over
the element at
the Virtual Cursor location. If the mouse over event caused
some part of the
page to change, JAWS announces the line where the change
occurred. To review
the new content, you can press J to perform the Jump To Line
command. Enter
the number of the line that changed and press ENTER to move
directly to that
line. You can press SHIFT+J at any time to return to your
previous location
on the page.
By default, JAWS announces when an HTML element has a mouse
over effect. If
you want JAWS to ignore the OnMouseOver attribute, do the
following:
1.Press INSERT+F2, select "Configuration Manager," and
press ENTER.
2.From the Set Options menu, choose Speech and Sounds
Manager.
3.In the Select Scheme list, choose "Classic."
4.Press ALT+E to edit this scheme.
5.Press CTRL+TAB until you move to the HTML tab, and
then use the arrow
keys to select "onmouseover."
6.Press ALT+I to select the Ignore radio button.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Message Rules.

2011-02-09 Thread David
Hello Graham;

well, my only other answer to your question, why are the emails going to
both inbox and your jaws folder is;
maybe, when you were setting up the message rule/filter, you didn't select
all button, and maybe you just went to apply now button.

if you go into your message rules,

alt/o/r, you will land in your message rules,
here you could modify any of the rules, and you can also remove any rule you
wish not to have.

hope this helps.

I would check to see which rules you have created, you'll need to

hello there;

okay, here's the steps I used to create a message filter for the latest
version of WLM, and, I'm going to use,
jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com
as an example.

1, open Windows Live Mail;
2, you first need to create a folder for the,
jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com messages.
so, press applications key, up arrow and enter on,
new folder;
now type the name of folder.
note, if you want the newly created folder on the same level,
tab and up arrow you will hear;

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Message Rules.

There have been emails about this before which unfortunately I have not
kept.

I am using Windows Live mail with the latest update and finding message
rules is very hit and miss. It seems I have to do alt v and then cursor
down to the lower ribbon and just keep tabbing around in hope but it is
taking ages and still I cannot find it.

Help!Mandy.

Re: [JAWS-Users] "on mouse over" on a web page

2011-02-09 Thread Janie Degenshein

Found this and hope it helps:
Mouse Over Effects
HTML allows the author of a page to set an OnMouseOver attribute for most
HTML elements to run specified code such as JavaScript or Visual Basic
Script when the mouse pointer is moved over the HTML element. Often this is
used to momentarily display text, graphics, or links. JAWS now recognizes
the OnMouseOver attribute, and if it is set to display text or links as part
of the page, JAWS provides access to that information. Press
INSERT+CTRL+ENTER to simulate moving the mouse pointer over the element at
the Virtual Cursor location. If the mouse over event caused some part of the
page to change, JAWS announces the line where the change occurred. To review
the new content, you can press J to perform the Jump To Line command. Enter
the number of the line that changed and press ENTER to move directly to that
line. You can press SHIFT+J at any time to return to your previous location
on the page.
By default, JAWS announces when an HTML element has a mouse over effect. If
you want JAWS to ignore the OnMouseOver attribute, do the following:

1.Press INSERT+F2, select "Configuration Manager," and press ENTER.
2.From the Set Options menu, choose Speech and Sounds Manager.
3.In the Select Scheme list, choose "Classic."
4.Press ALT+E to edit this scheme.
5.Press CTRL+TAB until you move to the HTML tab, and then use the arrow
keys to select "onmouseover."

6.Press ALT+I to select the Ignore radio button.

Keep Smiling,

Subject: [JAWS-Users] "on mouse over" on a web page

Hi listers
Can one activate an "on mouse over" item on a web page and
if so, how, or is that only some sort of a heading?
On my bank's site there is such an item for beneficiaries
which I suspect one can activate to get options to add,
change etc. but I cannot activate it.

[JAWS-Users] jfw12 focus problem

2011-02-09 Thread Fanus
Hi Listers
I encounter a focus problem with jfw12. When in i long list,
for example files in a directory, and I downarrow then jaws
jumps to other items in the list instead of staying on the
alphabetic list. I think it might have to do with the screen
resolution but if I make that lower jaws behaves better but
then sighted people can not see all the items. In display
properties it is set to classic theme. I tried the XP theme
but that does not solve the problem. Even when I switch the
view from list to detail it does not help.
I use XP Home.
Can someone please help.
Regards
Fanus
