All,

That installer certainly does need to be more accessible. However, there is a
tricky but workable way. If you are using jaws 13 or higher, you can use the
convenient ocr feature to try and locate those checkboxes. Just find a spot
where Google Chrome or such as mentioned, and reroute your PC cursor to that
location. Eight HTML type of screen will appear, just use your regular reading
commands to find and uncheck the boxes.

Nothing worked this time, I kept getting kicked back to the home page of the

I finally called 800 my apple and I got a live operator who did the updated

he was very nice and he is going to send a detailed report to the tech.
people for the iTunes store to see if they can make everything 100 percent

I also let freedom scientific know about the problem with the edit fields

Have any of you had similar problems with changing your account settings or

A full Microsoft Security Essentials and free version of Malware Bytes

Funny you should ask because I just installed Adobe Reader XI myself today,
and it seems to work fine with JAWS 9 running XP, so it should work with
JAWS 11. But after you install Adobe Reader XI, you will need to make two
changes so that JAWS will work smoothly with it.

1. First, after you install Adobe Reader XI, launch it from your desktop
and access the Preferences dialog either by pressing Control-K or going to
the Edit menu and scrolling down to Preferences. On Preferences, arrow down
the list of options to Security Enhanced, tab to the check box labeled
"Enable Protected Mode at Start-Up" and make sure that it is unchecked.
Then tab to the Okay button to save your change.
2. Second, go to the Edit menu, scroll down to the Accessibility submenu
and open it. Arrow down to the Set-Up Assistant and select it. The Set-Up
Assistant consists of five screens, but you need not change anything on the
first four screens. When you get to screen 5 of 5, tab to the check box
labeled "Open PDF Documents In the Browser" and make sure that it is
unchecked. (It may be checked by default) Then tab to the Okay button and
finally close Adobe Reader. These two changes will make Reader more
compatible with JAWS. HTH

I have to revert back to 13 to perform this task.
I'm using Windows 7.
Actually I haven't tried this much other than in Thunderbird, where it

Steve,
If you have java installed, press windows u. then tab to where it says use a
computer without a display. Press enter. You should see a checkbox that
says, "enable access bridge". Check it and press ok. After all that is done,
restart your computer and it should be setup. Make sure you have a current

two issues I've found.

These are both after restarting the pc after the update was installed

1. you are unable to use insert f11 to get to the system tray, it just
doesn't open the list of items.

2. I have a htm file with all my contacts, if i use an insert f to find a

Both these things were working yesterday before installing the new update.

I haven't installed any new software prior to update.

Not sure if this will happen to everyone getting the update, but beware!
When I updated it killed my insert key. I had to use narrator to kill it in
the task manager. So I downloaded it from the web site, un installed and
then reinstalled jaws 14. Now when it came up it was playing nice. Until I
told it to start up at log in and all sessions.
Then I lost my insert key when it rebooted.
Now back on jaws 13 because 14 has no insert key and really comes up
strange.

Got 2 questions. I'm not sure if the first one got posted to the list so am
sending it again.
In Itunes, to fast forward and rewind through a file that is playing you hit
control+alt+left or right arrow, depending on which way you want to go. Only
problem is it conflicts with the jaws keystroke for moving through cells in
a table. Is there a way to fix this? I'd prefer not to hit insert+3 then the
Itunes command. If you want to move quickly, that becomes tedious.
Second question is how well does the latest version of Skype work with Jaws
13? I have never used skype before.
Thanks for any info.

I am now in the position to record a tutorial demonstrating how you can
record your voice and your screen reader of choice presumably JAWS in this
case on both XP and Windows 7.

So those of you who have expressed an interest in finding out how that is
done may get an insiders' look so to speak.

I just upgraded this lap top which I have done many of my tutorials on from
XP to 7 Ultimate and I can still record in the same manner as before.

Hi Eric:

I have been helping Diane with trying to fix her outlook problem.

We spent about four hours on the phone with tech support yesterday.

They were very helpful and patient with us.

However, she has the same problems going on, Jaws freezing up and still
losing speech, or after waiting for a minute or two we get blank messages
instead.

the last suggestion from the Jaws tech. was to uninstall Jaws 14 and all
shared conponents which I helped her do after we finished the call with the
Jaws tech. person.

I helped her reinstall Jaws 14 using narator, after finishing this long
process of talking on the phone with tech. support and walking her through
all these suggestions we are still having the same problems with Jaws 14 and
outlook on her computer.

How do I go about having her check for this update for Outlook 2010?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance...

Re: [JAWS-Users] beta of jaws 14 still crashing on some types of messages

2012-10-12 Thread Geovanni Bahena
I hope fs can get to the botttom of this. I don't have the same problem, but
everytime either outlook 2010, or IE9 stops responding, Jaws will lock the
keyboard, and also stop responding. The only fix is to shut down the
computer. Even loading another screen doesn't help because Jaws will lock
the keyboard. I'm guessing this is a hard bug to track down because this
even ixests in 13 as well.

One wonders if it was also on the same kind of e-mail where you had to in
previous versions use alt-h, a and then v to read it in internet explorer.

Let's hope they fix it.

I have reported what I think is a similar issue to FS and they are working
on it. For me, it was the email from my utility company. It would crash
Outlook and unless you could get some sighted assistance to click on a
couple of boxes I pretty much had to shut down and reboot. So far, this is
the only message I have had trouble with.
Every email from them consistently reproduces the same result.

Hi all

Before reporting this on the bug fix page, I’m wondering whether anyone else
has this problem.

Even with the update, Jaws 14 beta is still crashing on some messages in
outlook 2010. This seems to happen in the type of message where you can use
alt-h, v and a to read the message in internet explorer for example in
notices from facebook.

The crash is so bad that you have to switch off the computer manually and
restart again.

Just wondering if someone else is having this problem?

The only thing I don't like about thunderbird is the way it reads the inbox

2012-10-05 Thread Geovanni Bahena
Hi all,

In case some of you don't know, Freedom Scientific has released beta 2 of
Jaws 14. This is the update that includes Flexible web. I have checked this
feature out, and this is seriously cool. If you have the beta, you can use
the check for updates in the help menu to get it. Here is the beta page with
all the details.

tell IE to not use it. I am annoyed because it is intrusive.

to be kind of a search engine. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thank you,

Hi there,
You need to at least have jaws 12.0.1158 or higher to use internet explorer
9.

Hello,

It has been my experience that JAWS 9 does not work well with Internet
Explorer 9. If you have the option, you can roll back to IE 8. Otherwise,
you will need to install JAWS 10 or higher.

Hi everyone:
I was helping a friend update his antivirus on his laptop and discovered
that, on many web sites, Jaws is not saying the edit field. On Google.com,
for example, if I press the letter E, it will go to the place where the
search field should be. Instead of saying "search edit," though, it simply
says blank. The search area sounds like this: search, blank, blank, search
button. Pressing spacebar or enter does nothing. I have tried it with other
web sites and it seems to work with some, like gmail and freedomscientific,
but not others, like amazon or Yahoo, where it does the exact same thing I
just described about Google.
He has a Toshiba laptop, Windows home premium, and Jaws 9, latest version. I
ran two repairs on jaws, and then I completely removed and did a clean
install of Jaws, all to no avail. I have never experienced anything like
this before. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Deanne

Hi

The worst thing I have seen writing scripts is that you can put your script
into a never ending loop, which will make JAWS respond very very slowly.
You usually have to kill JAWS and restart it. But then you can fix or
delete the offending script. Often in a script that needs to loop a few
times, I'll put a safety counter in the loop and increment or decrement it
and when it hits the limit, get out of the loop immediately.

Hi, As long as you only alter or create scripts in your personal directory

mess anything up.
You can always roll back by deleting the offending scripts in your personal
directory.

Hi,

What pointers/recommendations would a person have for the person who is
starting to learn scripting?

I quickly skimmed through it and there are a couple of small scrips of which
they want us to put together but mainly can I potentially mess something up?
Lol, this is still a new laptop I have and I would hate to kill it already.

Thanks.

something about that, but honestly they don't seme to care. they just
tell me they can't do nothing about it because they just provided them.
