KR> KR2S plans NVAERO......etc?

2019-08-14 Thread Oscar Zuniga via KRnet
I'll add a little something here. I've been on KRNet since sometime in the
early 1990s, although I owned a set of KR2 plans that I had gotten from
Jeanette Rand some years before that. Mark Langford has been on the net
considerably longer than that, and has worked tirelessly to advance the state
of the art in building and flying these airplanes ever since. He moderates and
manages the KRNet without dues, fees, or annual whines- but it's not free at
all.

I've never been to a KR Gathering in the 25+ years that I've been on this list,
but I have from time to time sent Mark some money to help with the costs and
time that he spends maintaining, supporting, and troubleshooting the KRNet. If
I think back, I can count on the fingers of one hand the times that there has
been any sort of glitch, hiccup, or transfer of list hosting in the years I've
been here. It all happens behind the scenes, and Mark handles it promptly and
transparently. I get to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Gatherings via
Mark's writeups and photos of the events afterwards, and I get my daily fix of
airplane stuff via this list and a few others, and that's about the cheapest
entertainment I can think of.

All of which is to say, if you're like me and you enjoy this list, consider
sending Mark a check or a Paypal donation to keep him in the game. There have
been a few times when he has gotten fed up and has come pretty close to
slamming the door behind him on his way out, but I'm sure glad he hasn't.

 Devin York via KRnet wrote:

>Looking for plans for a KR2S. NVaero site seems down?

I talked to NVaero owner Steve Glover, and he is aware that the website
is down and will work towards reviving it when he gets a chance. He has
several much larger issues on his mind now, with almost his entire
immediate family nearing end of life issues. Let's give him a bit of
breathing room. He doesn't have complete plans sets in stock in the
moment, but will work to remedy that.

I'd like to remind folks that one doesn't "make a living" selling KR
parts Really, it has to be a labor of love, which is difficult unless
one is retired and self sufficient with spare time on their hands. It
simply doesn't make economic sense to build and stock practically
anything, as KR builders are famously "DIY" folks who'd rather build it
themselves than buy it from anybodyregardless of price. Sales
volume to KR builders is practically non-existent.

I've said this beforeKR builders really need to return to the "good
old days" of KR buildingback in the 70's and 80's. Back then, a
builder might build something like a flap handle or control stick from
the plans, or even improve on the design, and then sell completed
assemblies or parts kits through the KR Newsletter, depending on what
the seller or buyers might be interested in. Nobody made a pile of
money, or perhaps ANY money (if they considered their time worth
anything), it was more of a labor of love or support for this aircraft
design and to help like-minded builders that we all agree makes so much
sense for us cheapskate DIY guys to get our butts in the air!

Problem iswe're almost all strapped for time, and if you're on this
list, you probably want to spend whatever "spare" time you have building
or flying your airplane, rather than building stuff for other
folks.who'd rather build it themselves anyway. I guess what I'm
trying to say is that we've all chosen to build this neat little
airplane, knowing that the construction process is simple, but full of
simple little tasks that add up to to be a considerably time-consuming
process.

That's not to say that there are not some huge shortcuts to be had, like
buying landing gear that's already cut, welded, and ready for
installation, and wing skins, originally offered by Dan Diehl, and now
sold by NVaero. Steve at NVaero even went to the trouble of making a
set of molds for the "new" airfoil (the "AS504x") skins, that can save a
lot of time, yield a very nice looking set of "bubble free" wings, but
are expensive to create, ship, and more importantly, keep hanging around
waiting for somebody to buy a set. He has a lot of time and money tied
up in those molds, and I'm guessing they have a LONG way to go before
they pay for themselves, if ever. Keep this kind of stuff in mind when
we wonder why there are hardly any folks selling KR-specific parts these
days.

For those who don't know about the "new airfoil", see
http://www.krnet.org/as504x/ for more on that, with links to full size
templates that you can download and carry to Kinkos to build them
from.if you have the time.

Hello Jeff and Netter's,

I guess I should make a few clarifications regarding nV Aero and parts/
plans availability.

It has been no secret that since taking over providing plans and materials
we have had a few setbacks. Between being flooded twice, another hangar
move to get out of the flood zone, and my knee surgery it has been difficult
to keep up with orders. In addition, I work a regular job full time running
two companies as well as nV Aero. I didn't really get back to work until
early this year from my knee surgery. On a personal level given my injuries
and economy, like many I had to short sale my house and lost a large sum of
cash money last year.

Early in the year we had a hiatus in plans availability. That has been
resolved and now have plans in stock. I have been out of town much over the
past month or so which is why some plans have not been shipped. In
reference to lack of availability internationally, we are evaluating our
position with overseas shipping. I will spare the details here. What I can
tell you is we have lost several thousand dollars shipping overseas. We
also receive orders from people who expect us to ship plans or parts without
payment. They then wonder why they have not received their orders or that
the orders have been cancelled. We always attempt contact first.

There are a couple builders on here with legitimate gripes about our
delivery time frame. I completely understand their frustration and we are
doing everything we can to get their products to them. The delay was with
the new airfoil wing and tail skins. Given the above listed setbacks we
had, the production schedule was delayed on tooling and fabrication. I am
happy to say that parts are in the molds now and we should have all
backorders completed shortly. We retained a composites company to produce
many of our items until we can get caught up and organized at the new
hangar.

Those who know me know I always follow through on what I say I will do. nV
Aero is no different. We will always get your products to you. We
certainly are not getting rich from the company. In fact most months I came
out of pocket for our operating expenses. It doesn't bother me for two
reasons. 1) I am dedicated to providing support for the KR series of
aircraft and keeping the design alive. 2) It truly is one of the few
affordable aircraft you can build with the level of performance the KR
offers.

After the short time we have been operating I now see some of the things
Jeanette had to deal with. I can't say I blame her for much of what has
transpired over the past several years. We have had some great conversations
regarding history of the KR's and experimental aviation in general. She
really has a great wealth of knowledge and experience with some of the
pioneers in the experimental world.

We have received several inquiries from people wanting specs and dimension
of our products. I have learned some are wanting to duplicate or "improve"
what we have. Eric and I have quite a large investment in this venture and
we have no intention of facilitating rip offs. If some feel that I am not
responsive to their inquiries that we feel may not be of a genuine nature or

I am a bit puzzled. Why would you specifically not want to deal with the
only company in existance trying to support the KR builders? Is it an export
problem or a personal issue? I know Steve at NVAero sure isn't getting rich
doing this.

FWIW, you may be able to buy plans through Jeannette Rand, but historically
she has been very difficult to deal with, especially if you are outside the
US boarders. My experience with Steve has been just the opposite, although I
don't know if there is an issue with export for him. My personal experience
with sellling parts ourside of the US was horrible, through no fault of
either the buyer or seller.

There is an outfit that sells CDs with pirated plans on them on Ebay
occasionally. Not very good quality from what I've heard, but that may be
your last resort. Please, let's not get into a discussion about the
legalities of the pirated plans. I don't like them either, but if one can't
obtain a legal copy, then I'd go to that as a LAST resort.

KR> KR2s plans and manual

2011-06-17 Thread Henning
Hi Patrick and Robin,
Thank you for taking interest in my request for obtaining the plans and
manual.

By referring to a registered supplier I mean a supplier of KR2s plans that
is legally approved(i.e. Serial #,and all relevant requirements that can be
submitted in order to receive a builders number from our local aviation
authorities and registration of the homebuild aircraft)

The reason why I required about such supplier is that I tried to order the
plans from nvaero but did not received and answer from them on resent
communications and thus required weather there were other suppliers from
whom these plans can be obtained.

Please do understand me correctly as I do not try to discredit Mr.Glover in
any sense and do not have any intention to do so.
I am totally prepared to pay all relevant costs as advertised and stipulated
by nvaero.

I am not interested in any pirate copies since that will only make a lot of
expenses void at the end.

Thank you again,
Henning Fourie

available early March 2011 but I have not heard anything from them since.
Are there any other KR2s plans suppliers besides them?

I am living in South Africa, if you are prepared to mail the plans to me I
can forward you my details.

Regards,
Henning Fourie

Asking $250 and I will pay for shipping to U.S. addresses. All others, $250

KR> KR2s Plans and Quick Build Parts

2009-09-10 Thread Stephen Glover
Hello Barry,

It looks like Jeanette is going to keep the plans for now. As of our last
conversation she did say we would be able to list them through our web site
in addition to those who would prefer to purchase the regular mail method
through her. We just received our resale license today and are awaiting the
credit card vendor to get us connected. As of the Gathering or shortly
thereafter we will be live with product and will be taking orders.

I received confirmation today our cores for the new airfoil are up next to
be CNC'd so we should have the wings and center section by the time we
return from the Gathering as well. I don't know how many would be
interested but we decided to go ahead and make skins for the entire tail
group also.

Things are picking up speed now. We have an order for a fast build kit and
have three in process of being assembled. The shop is still not completely
organized but it will get there. We are picking up a CNC hotwire for the
new design and are looking at a CNC water jet cutting machine to keep most
of our stuff in house. There should be more info soon as well as revealed
at the Gathering...

Thanks for asking.

Regards,

Steve

In the standard assembly procedure "N" is supposed to be left out until the
Stab. is installed.
When I started I had had a full scale print made of the side layout and
measured all of the stringers.
"N" measured 10.75", inside to inside on the longerons, but note that that is
the vertical (flat) dimension.
That's all the info I have since the Fat Lady is oversize in all dim's. and
since she has been built using a different
assembly procedure.

Just put a check in the mail for the plans and the supplement for the "S".
Start getting your shop in order. Your plans will arrive without a phone call.
You will then need to send in the registration page and let the fun begin.

Also let us know who and where you are. KR people get around a lot and might
be able to stop by to see your progress and help with questions. I travel to
south Mississippi quite often.

Faxed her early last week, with my return fax number, no answer. Called
left a message early this week, answer. This is typical, you just have to
either keep at it, or build something else.

John:

There Plans I have and even the original set had Full size inboard & outboard
plywood rib dwgs plus a full size bulk head drawing plus a few other of some
lesser metal parts. Those full size plywood rib & firewall drawings are
indispensable as you can accurately trace them to piece of paper or using
carbon paper transfer the outline to a template which makes things easier and
less prone to you making an error.

I do not think you have everything. The large rib template were not continuous
mut multi-piece with match lines but they were full size. I then copied them,
put the match lines together & guled it onto a piece of masonite and made a
full size template to assure all ribs were the same.

I am sure that with the reciept No. she will get you what you need but you may
need to pay something for the copies & shipping. She may also what an
explanation about the copy you have to assure that someone did not violate RR
copyrights. She knows who the plans were sold to originally.

KR> KR2S plans for sale

2008-10-12 Thread k...@spottedowl.biz
Harry, and all

I've discovered that for me building a plane is not going to be realistic.
I have a set of KR2S plans that need a new home. I am the second owner and
neither of us built anything. The first owner included around a ream of
printouts from the KR archives. He also faxed RR to tell them he had sold
the set to me. I will do the same for who ever buys it. The price list in
the set shows Nov 2000 prices.

I would like to get $175 plus shipping for the set. The box weighs about 10
pounds.
UPS wants $160 to ship to Australia. The US Post office wants $60 for 4-10
days and $30 for 4-6 weeks.

For those stateside, I would also consider parts for a 1983 Mercedes 300D as
trade, especially a working cruise control amplifier.

This what I have so you can confirm it is a complete set.

3 ring binder with 118 page manual
drawing "the KR-2"
Kr2 firewall template
KR2 Drawing No. 2 May 1986 release change letter B Inboard and outboard
wing template ..
KR2 Drawing No. 1 Change B 3-31-88 Fuselage Assembly

Sheet W2 KR-2S Wing details
Sheet W3 KR-2S Airfoils

Drawing B KR2s Shows stabilizer Ribs and spars and hinge details
There is also a brochure with RR parts kits and a price sheet that shows
prices effective Nov 2000.

Absolutely. Lots of details that were left out of the KR2 plans, as well as

KR> KR2S Plans #1087

2008-10-12 Thread StRaNgEdAyS
Hello there all!
I figured I'd chip in with an introduction.
My name is Peter Bancks, My wife Sarah and I live in the sunny (but cold at
the moment) South East of Queensland Australia. We recently recieved KR2 and
KR2S plans # 9670 and #1087 respectively. We intend on building the S
variant.
We are about 2 hours out of Brisbane in a small country town called
Blackbutt (yes REALLY).
Out here there is not a lot to distract us from the task of building our
first plane together (apart from the fact my wife is currently 8 weeks
pregnant with our first child), so we hope to have it completed within 2
years. I do believe a friend of mine shot Murphy (of Murphy's Law fame) last
week, so until they find a replacement (probably Shamus, Murphy's second
cousin) we should be able to make some decent progress!
That's about all for now, will keep you all posted, and submit a web address
to be added to the KRnet.org list as it gets done.
Cheers,
Peter and Sarah Bancks

>>>

Good Luck Pete (& Sarah)

I am sure you have already done this, but if not, research the mods that are
most popular before you start.

After many months of doing exactly that, for what it is worth, I believe
that a KR2S with the cockpit widened to 39" (or so) and the fuselage
stretched something like 4" ahead of the main spar and AT LEAST 14" aft of
the rear spar makes for a near perfect and very cost effective 2 seat
airplane.

These mods are relatively simple and have no negative impact on the design
intergity (strength) of the fuselage. The do impact on factory supplied
canopy and deckings.

There are tons of other mods including the updated with section, better
hinges for the tail feathers etc. - then a thousand engine options ranging
from Rotary, through Veedub to Vair, or a regular certified motor - even a
turbine if you wish.

You will have ample time to consider these in the months (years) ahead. The
mods mentioned above happen in the early stages of building and need a
decision before you start.

Good luck
Ron

KR>KR2S Plans

2008-10-12 Thread ggrabow...@lwtm.com
I'm considering purchasing a plan set for the KR2S. I have reviewed plans
sets before for large projects such as airplanes and sailboats, and often
found that the clarity and quality were poor, even for the more expensive
sets. I'm trying to solicit some feedback to ensure that this is not the
case with the KR plans. Although what constitutes good quality and clarity
is subjective, I think positive or negative feedback from those that have
already built (or are building) from these plan sets would be a good
indication. Any comments would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I had an early set and found all the information on them I needed.
With the KR net for support you will have help other builders don't have.
Just be sure it's the plane for you, hopefully without too many changes.

Greg,
The KR-2 and 2S plans are very good. That is not the
case for the KR-1 plans. Long ago I bought a set of
KR-1 plans because they were cheap and I thought I'd
get an idea of how difficult building it would be.
Trust me, there is no comparison. I think you'll find
the KR-2 plans excellent, but I cannot say the same
for the KR-1 plans.

Frank,

Thank-you for your response. I must admit, I'm a little skeptical as I've
had several negative responses. I really want to build a wooden aircraft,
and I think I've narrowed my choices to the KR2S or a GP-4 (there don't seem
to be many choices available). I really don't want to buy the kits, and
would like to fabricate my own from the plans. Are the KR2S plans
sufficiently detailed to allow this, or are they simply assembly plans that
require you to purchase the parts prefabricated? Thank-you again for your
insight.

Greg,

I have fabricated all my own parts for my KR2S without any difficulty. It
does take some studying and several times over the plans, but for the basic
airframe, its all there. No engine forward, landing gear, instrument panel
or hydraulic brakes, but all of this stuff is available on the internet. It
just takes time.

KR>KR2S Plans

2008-10-12 Thread Joseph H. Horton
Greg
What Bob said is correct except that I found that when I ordered some of
the kit packages from Rand Robinson that additional instruction came with
each item. With the top deck premolds and header tank there was at least
10 additional pages, with the landing gear and brakes there was also
another 8 or 10 pages of instructions. I do not know why they aren't
provided with the book and I also believe it should be. Bottom line is
that the plane can be built from the instructions and having accesss to
all the information provided here on the net can put you months ahead of
the way I started 9 long years ago.
