[Licq-main] licq go "online" after auto away instead of previous status

2006-07-12 Thread Martin Fernau
Hello!

I've investigate this problem since the svn-version of licq (date of sync:
30.06.06).
After licq was into auto-away (or auto-NA) and I come back to my desktop, I
see licq in "online" modus regardless of my previous status. I don't know
exactly when licq comes to "online" (if it's when I move my mouse or if it's
somewhen in the time between auto-away and returning to desktop).
However, this also happens if I'm OFFLINE. Yesterday I switched to offline
(not closing licq) and get back after 2 hours an seeing messages for me in
licq because it's online. Strange thing :)

Regards

Could you try using the SVN version?

Hello,
Excuse my ignorance, but I thought they were the same: the plug-in manager
says "Name: KDE GUI", "Description: "Qt based GUI", so I really can't tell :)
I do use the dock icon. I just tried turning it off and restarting licq and
kicker hanged once again, so it's not that. Let me know what other
information you may need. Being a Gentoo user, I've compiled the (released)
sources myself with GCC 4.1.1.
Thanks,

I haven't experienced this (using KDE 3.5.3 and licq svn). What plugin are you
using? qt-gui or kde-gui? Can you give a little bit more information? Maybe
it is because of the dock applet/icon?

[Licq-main] licq kills kicker

2006-06-30 Thread Georgi Chulkov
Dear all,

I'm a happy Gentoo user, using licq-1.3.2 and kde-3.5.3. Every time I start
licq, kicker (the process responsible for the taskbar and any additional
panels in KDE) hangs. It won't react to a SIGTERM, but only to a SIGKILL,
after which it has to be started again. This is extremely annoying, and licq
is the only program that has ever done this. Is it an licq problem (the
qt-plugin actually), or should I file a bug with the KDE people? Using
qt-3.3.6.

Thanks,
Georgi

DNS and e-mail are down for licq.org. It happens from time to time

[Licq-main] licq 1.3.2: Cannot connect to MSN due to SSL issue

2006-01-23 Thread Martin Schmidt
Hi there!

I have installed Ubuntu Linux on another machine and wanted to have the msn
plugin. Like on my other machine, I took the 1.3.2 source and started
building licq.

Basics:

sudo apt-get install build-essential

For the qt-plugin:

sudo apt-get install xlibs-dev libqt3-headers libqt3-mt libqt3-mt-dev
libgpgme11-dev

For the msn plugin:

sudo apt-get install openssl libssl-dev

But: I can not connect to msn, the errormessage »[MSN] SSL connection failed.«
keeps repeating. :(

I think I have nothing other on my machine like on the different pc, and there
it works without any problems...

Any ideas?

Regards,

Martin Schmidt

Well, but in users.conf are 100 entries. Each entry should have a $ID.Licq and
a $ID.uid file in /users, doesn't it?
In my /users directory are just 189 files. So for some entries in users.conf
there doesn't exist a file in /users.
I'll try to figure out which $IDs are missing and delete them.

Hm I don't think so, only the entries listed in users.conf would be used.

[Licq-main] licq 1.3.2 does not start

2006-01-14 Thread Kai Falkenberg
Hi.

I've upgraded from licq version 1.3.0 to version 1.3.2 (gentoo portage version)
and now it doesn't start any more.

15:04:29: [WRN] Licq: Ignoring stale lockfile (pid 15017)
15:04:29: [ERR] Fatal error reading protocol information for User1 with ID
'$ID'.
Please check "/home/kai/.licq/users.conf".

Well, i checked the file as proposed. 100 entries and lots of UINs. Any ideas
what i have to change in users.conf?
The file looks like this:
[users]
NumOfUsers = 100
User1 = $ID1
[..]
User100 = $ID100

Thanks in advance.
Kai

The problem is the KDE session management. KDE (here 3.5.0) does not always
wait for all applications to correctly shut down, when one logs out. This is
somehow a known problem, I think. This way the lockfile almost always stays.
This also produces some minor problems with Kontact (Kmail / Kaddressbook).

[Licq-main] LICQ start script

2005-12-21 Thread Arne Schmitz
Hi everyone!

I don't know if anyone else has got this problem, but for me, Licq sometimes
does not start. This is because there is a stale licq.pid lockfile, and some
other process took the PID. The attached script checks if the current user is
already running a copy of Licq and if not, it will remove the lockfile. This
does not work for multiple Licq base directories, but for the average user it
should be fine.

Unfortunately there is no proxy support for MSN.

If you are a devloper, perhaps you can help code this portion of MSN. If not,
you'll have to wait for it to be done. So far this hasn't been requested for

[Licq-main] Licq msn plugin under proxy

2005-12-20 Thread RaSca

Hi all,
i've installed licq from source with the msn plugin, everything
concerning ICQ is working fine, but i cannot connect to the msn network.
This should be because i'm under a proxy, but i've configured it in the
Network menu configuration and also the connection to the ICQ network is
working fine.
I've tried to put these lines :

ProxyEnabled = 1
ProxyServerType = 1
ProxyServer =
ProxyServerPort = 3128
ProxyAuthEnabled = 1
ProxyLogin =
ProxyPassword =

in the licq_msn.conf file, but nothing's changed.

What can i edit ? Is there a way to make the things work ?

I've enabled the MSN plugin and configured my account (wich exists and
can login on the msn site). My system is Debian Etch with licq 1.3.2.

Thanks for your help,

The number is for programs that allow multiple instances, I think. (Which Licq
theoretically does)

For the time being, you can use this command to access Licq, if you have only
got one instance running:

dcop `dcop Licq-*`

Okay, thanks for this information.
Can you say something about dcop? Some messages before I wrote that dcop isn't
returning anything if I call a dcop-function of licq:
-

[EMAIL PROTECTED] (~) $ dcop licq-26535 KIMIface onlineContacts

[EMAIL PROTECTED] (~) $

-

and I noticed, that the number behind licq is changing on every restart of
licq. Why? If I want to use dcop in scripts, I have to find out the number
before. Why isn't it just 'licq' like it is for any other modules like kgpg
or kicker and so on? Would be great, if dcop will work soon because it's the
simplest way for using licq-informations in scripts :)

I think I see it. If you look at the Info for a contact in Licq, there is one
tab (the last tab on the right) labelled "KDE Addressbook" and it has spaces
for the name and email as they appear in the addressbook. I had to use the
arrow to move to that tab, I had not noticed it before because it was not
visible.

At the bottom there is a button to click that will open up your list
of KAddressBook entries, and then you select the one that matches that
ICQ user. Currently my system is being re-installed so I dont even
have Licq on it so I cant look at it. just going from my memory, but I
havent used it yet since my KDE was too old to work with it.

I have the same problem. In Debian, I can see a "Copy > Contact" menu in
Konqueror by right clicking a file, but I do not see any contacts even though
they are in the K address book and I have their ICQ info in it.

In Xandros, I do not see the same thing when I right click a file, so it won't
work there. Xandros uses a customized KDE.

Okay, but how? All my friends are in my kaddressbook already. For each user in

You have to add the users to the KAddressBook, then in the user's info
there is a tab to map the users... Then you can send files from
Konqueror and use the dcop functions. Hopefully future versions of KDE

I have the same thing here, I do not see any dcop stuff but I am using Xandros

about to upgrade Licq on the laptop in order to see if any dcop stuff is

changelog say something about dcop-features which seems to be unuseable.
Strange

Maybe I have to recompile licq with debug-infos compiled in and have a look

I tried it with ICQ for Windows on the receiving end and neither side crashes,
but the file is not transferred. I assume it is because of firewall issues.
I have never been able to transfer files via ICQ since I got DSL.

Perhaps the function is more limited on my system because I am running Xandros
on two out of 4 computers. I am going to try it on a laptop which runs
Debian Sarge. Xandros has a customized KDE.

Did you try dragging a file from Konqueror (or the file manager) to an ICQ

[Licq-main] licq chat

2005-10-13 Thread Tom Jenkins
Both my father and I have Mandriva 2005LE installed on our computers and
thus use the licq 1.3.0 package that comes with it. We have tried while
both of us were using Mandriva to establish contact so that we could
chat directly, but we have not had any success. The message on the chat
screen is "waiting for other party to connect," or something to that
effect, although a connection is never established. Is there some manual
setting one or both of us needs to make, or does one of us need to be in
Windows using ICQ before we can make a direct connection?

Thanks,

Tom

[Licq-main] Licq 1.3.2 RC1

2005-09-24 Thread Jon Keating
Hello,

I have put a release candidate on the SF.net file server for people to
do a check for any major bugs that remain. There are two known points
that will be fix before Licq 1.3.2 is made into a final release:

* Removing a user from the visible list does not take effect until the
next Licq restart.
* Changing your status to another status, while invisible, removes the
invisibility flag.

You will have to use the icq.com website to register. They now require
users to verify their account when they register by showing some
graphics and making the user type what letters are in the picture.
This is to cut down on spam. Unfortunately, Licq doesn't support this
new method yet.

Licq sends a string saying the version is ICQ2001b, however we should
be fine with the latest server. I will look into it and verify that we
are ok, I believe that we just haven't "upgraded" the string in
awhile. I'll look into it tonight after work.

I don't see the point of it being sent as a spam since it only suggests
updating software from ICQ's own website, not a third-party website. When
was the last time a spammer did you a favor? Also, I have never received a
spam sent in this matter, not showing a sender UIN. It came in as a system
message. Perhaps it is being sent to ICQ users that are not running the
latest official client. Are you connected to ICQ's servers with Licq?

I cant get it to compile the configurescript

licq-20050419> make -f Makefile.cvs
This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

*** Concatenating configure tests into acinclude.m4
*** Retrieving configure tests needed by configure.in
Can't locate object method "path" via package "Request"
at /usr/share/autoconf/Autom4te/C4che.pm line 69, line 112.
aclocal: autom4te failed with exit status: 1
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1

So right now i have decided its way to complicated to get a newer version than
the one on "released" for SuSE via the homepage.

I'll stick with 1.3.0/ssl from the Mar 18 2005

Still no ideas on what this can be?
The problem is persistent and very easily reproduced.

try to login using the first 8 chars of your password.
icq doesn't support passwords with more than 8 characters.

you also can try to change your password to something shorter at the icq
website.

Providing a backtrace would help! This implies building w/ debug options (for
instance: ./configure --enable-debug && make && make install; don't make
install-strip!), and running licq from gdb. If possible use code from CVS.
When licq segfaults, you are still under gdb, then type bt or bt full and send
the full output to this mailing-list.

Let us know if you need more help around building licq or running licq from
gdb!

[Licq-main] Licq 1.3.1/SSL segfaulting

2005-02-08 Thread Rikard Johnels
Hi all!
Have a 1.3.1/SSL install (from SuSE apt) that keeps segfaulting.
I usually keep it logged on and set the status to "Not Available"
and "Invisible"
If i leave it up, it segfaults after a period of time (differs from time to
time)
As far as i can see it is when i get a pending message from a offline user.
Then it dies with segfault, and if i start it i get;

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> licq
09:12:40: [WRN] Licq: Ignoring stale lockfile (pid 30338)
Segmentation fault

I have no idea where to look or even what to look for.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I'd like to know, too. I've noticed this problem with Licq 1.3
vs. Miranda 0.3.3.1. In Licq 1.2.7 I'm almost sure it didn't happen
(sorry, at work now, so can't test it right now to say for sure).

I have already set myself as ``Online to user'' to some users of my
contact list (or checked the options ``Accept messages in DND mode''
and the like), and this way it works. Even so, if I were able to
disable this feature, it would be really nice (even 'cause I usually
forget to check these options for new users :P ). Is it possible?

Licq receive the messages in N/A and Away mode. Sorry, it was a mistake.
But in Occupied and DND Mode it still not receive the message. The
Miranda-Client don't show my occupied message (reports the user who tried to
send me the message). Is it really a good idea to reject a message completely
in such modes? The user who send the message think, that I receive the
messages, but I don't. Why not receive the message but without the sound
notification like the messages from users with the original icq?
Do I misunderstand something?

Regards

Could this be the source of my problem mentioned in the thread:

Confusing error "Sending message failed..."

?

I do not have any problems when licq is away or N/A, only in Occ or
DND-Mode. Is it possible to disable this behaviour?

In Occupied and DND mode, Licq will reject the message with your away
message.(requiring the urgent flag to be set, as that is how the win
icq works). For away and NA... it should receive the message fine and
send your away message to show that you are away. What version of
Miranda is the user using? I can test it over here to see if it can be
fixed in Licq or if the clients are non compliant with the protocol.

wwp in #licq says that this bug has been fixed in CVS. See

It would be convenient if tracker entries would specify CVS revision

I am reluctant to use the CVS version since I just want to install
a stable LICQ. In this case, avoiding the bug is easy, but my
confidence in LICQ 1.30 has taken a hit.

I don't think that that is the case. The crash happened in a use of
sz, so it must have been set.

My guess that -O2 could be the problem is based on the fact that once
an optimizer has had at a program, there is often no unique consistent
place (machine register or storage location) to look for the value of
a variable so that a debugger might not know how or where to find the
value. PhD theses have been written about how to co-ordinate
debuggers with optimizers. But this remains a guess -- I've never
tried gdb on a c++ program before.

The explanation might be simpler, like something to do with name
mangling.

I could spend a bunch of time experimenting to figure this out, but it
doesn't matter much to me and furthermore someone else surely already
knows.

NULL is the C/C++ name for a null pointer constant. There is a lot of
technical crap around this, but the bottom line is that you should
think of NULL as a pointer value. (I could go into the technicalities
for C, but you really don't want to know.)

NUL is the name of the character in ASCII/ISO-646/ISO-8859/UNICODE/...
encoded as 0 and used by C as the string terminator. In C, it is best
written as '\0'. See the ASCII(7) manpage in most UNIX-like systems.

So when I use them NULL and NUL are very different beasts.

My guess is that -O2 is good enough but sz has not been initialized so
the compiler doesn't generate debug info for it and gdb doesn't get to
see it. I may be wrong.

and NUL; thanks to your email I think I have finally managed to get a

|
| Hm, no, they did not change. Licq does update the configuration files
| automatically when it detects old config-files.

My user showed up. licq crashed (segv) when using his old configs.

Bottom line: there is a bug in 1.30's user.cpp that causes a crash in
line 625 (routine CUserManager::Load). This code deals with lines in
~/.licq/users.conf. It wants to split the user number from the
protocol ID:

sz = strrchr(szFile, '.');
strncpy(szId, szFile, sz - szFile);
szId[sz - szFile] = '\0';
nPPID = (*(sz+1)) << 24 | (*(sz+2)) << 16 | (*(sz+3)) << 8 | (*(sz+4));

Now: think what happens if there is no '.' in the line. sz will be
NULL. The strncmp will be passed an invalid length.
szId[somethingawful] will be set to NUL.

My user's user.conf lines had no '.'. Boom.

For now, we just added .Licq to each line.

Another potential bug: what if there are not 3 characters after the .
AND the line is really long. The code for calculating nPPID may reach
past the end of szFile.

I had quite a lot of trouble debugging this. I've never used gdb on
c++ code before. I could not get it to examine local variables. I
did rebuild all of licq after doing:
./configure --enable-debug

This helped: gdb then did know the line numbers for crashes. Anybody
know how to display, for example, sz or szId when at a breakpoint in
the above code? "print sz" failed because gdb claimed no to know the
variable (but "print i" worked). I wonder if the -O2 flag caused
variable info to be washed away.

[Licq-main] licq don't display messages in away mode from some windows clients!

2005-01-05 Thread Martin Fernau
Hi there!

It seems, that I have massive problems receiving messages from some Windows
Clients in occupied/away/NA/DND mode but not in normal online mode.
If I'm normal online, I can chat with a friend of me just as it is normal. But
if I went away or something else, no further messages arrives me. On the
debug output I see, that his message arrives licq but would never be
displayed!
See here:

This messages arrives me, when se starts to write a message

[Licq-main] LICQ for Fedora Core 3 on x86-64

2004-12-29 Thread D. Hugh Redelmeier
Context: Fedora Core 3 dropped LICQ. I'd like to have it on FC3. So
I'm exploring how to get it. Up until now, I know nothing about LICQ
development. I'm even going to report trivial problems since you are
only ignorant once.

Although all I'm doing is complaining, I'm very grateful for all the
work you have put into this. It's just that there is no need to talk
about what works.

1) http://licq.wibble.net/faqs.php displays as raw HTML on my firefox.
This is true of other pages on this site.
   http://www.licq.org/faqs.php displays properly.
I don't know why and have not investigated.

2) http://www.licq.org/contact.php does not list the mailing lists.
   I think that it should.

3) [Jon has fixed this one.]
http://www.licq.org/help.php has a broken link to the "Licq Mailing
   List": http://www.licq.org/info.html#lml

I found this list via google.

4) Fedora Core 3 on x86-64 can also run FC3 binaries for regular x86. I
tried licq-1.3.0-1.fc2.i386.rpm but it would not install -- missing
dependencies. That is reasonable (not a bug).

5) I downloaded licq-1.3.0-1.fc2.src.rpm in the hope that I could rebuild
from source. This file appears to be corrupt:

$ rpm --checksig licq-1.3.0-1.fc2.src.rpm
licq-1.3.0-1.fc2.src.rpm: sha1 MD5 NOT OK

[Jon says that RPMs are not really supported -- user submissions
are posted. In that case, I suggest that this RPM should be
removed because it is broken. That probably means that the
binary RPM should be removed too since it would be then hard
to conform with the GPL for the binary RPM.]

6) I'm building 1.3.0 from the tarball. doc/README says to do
configure and make as root. It would be better if one could
do that as an ordinary user. I would bet that that would work.
Only "make install" is likely to need root.

7) The "make" yielded several warnings. I think that the code should
be fixed. Warning: I'm not a C++ programmer.

icqd-tcp.cpp:429: warning: int format, different type arg (arg 3)
users.size() probably yields a size_t, not an int.
One easy fix: cast users.size() to int.
Better fix: replace %d with something more appropriate.

utility.cpp:241: warning: int format, different type arg (arg 4)
message.cpp:762: warning: int format, different type arg (arg 3)
icqd-chat.cpp:1098: warning: int format, different type arg (arg 4)
These are probably all like the previous one

countrycodes.c:287: warning: implicit declaration of function `strcasecmp'
Missing #include

   rtf.ll:181: warning: unused variable 'c'
   rtf.ll:191: warning: unused variable 'c'
Uses of these variables are commented out.
Perhaps these definitions should be commented out as well
(the lines are adjacent).

8) In building plugins/qt-gui, I got the following warning:

   In file included from catdlg.cpp:147:
catdlg.moc:135:22: warning: no newline at end of file

Actually, catdlg.moc does end in a newline.
catdlg.cpp does not end in a newline. This should be fixed.
And then so should GCC -- its message is confused.

I seem to have a working LICQ! To actually test it, I'll need to
await my user.

It isn't clear how to migrate an old .licq to 1.30. Certainly, a pure
copy does not work (hard to copy a FIFO). Also, the plugin names are
in a configuration file, and they've changed.

This backtrace still does not help very much.

Please try those commands in a console:

gdb licq
(gdb) run

(gdb) thread apply all bt full

This will give a more detailed backtrace, please send it to us.

Thank you,
Thomas

sorry, my failure.

try it this way:

gdb licq
(gdb) run --noxim

(gdb) thread apply all bt full

But from your last backtrace it seems that you did only compile the daemon
with --enable-debug, but not the qt-gui plugin. Both (daemon _and_ qt-gui)
should be compiled with debugging to give us as much help as possible.

Bye,

*arghlll* again, this is my last try, my mail a few minutes was wrong
(again) :-(

so now try this (the difference is the -- -noxim parameter):

gdb licq
(gdb) run -- -noxim

(gdb) thread apply all bt full

But from your last backtrace it seems that you did only compile the daemon
with --enable-debug, but not the qt-gui plugin. Both (daemon _and_ qt-gui)

Maybe here is a problem: are the parameters "-- -noxim" really passed to
licq? I don't think so.
I'm sorry, I don't know much about debugging.

Try to build a version with debug information enabled and send a backtrace of
the crash to this mailing list. This way someone here might be able to find
the source of the error.

[Licq-main] licq-1.3.0 crashes

2004-12-01 Thread Ralf Schlechtweg-Jahn
Hi,

I have licq -1.3.0 installed on two PCs, with the same system and software:

Suse 8.1
qt-3.0.5
kde 3.0.3

On one of the systems its working without problems, on the other not:

I can start it only with the "-- -noxim" parameter. Then its up an running,
but when I'm opening a message-windows and start chatting, it chrashes 20 or
30 sec. - somtimes up to a minute - later. Or should I say, it stops working
without a sigh?

I have used an older version of licq (1.2.7), and deleted all its folders
before installing the new one (well, I hope I have). And I have deleted the
.licq - user-folder too, but it will not work.
What to do now?

just updated to today's CVS, I'm using qt-gui and msn plugins. I've added my
MSN account, logged in. Here is the list of problems I'm facing now:

1/ no way to send a message using my MSN account when I'm invisible. The
message is being conveyed (?) endlessly.. hourglass until I cancel it (never
received on remote user side that I can see online but he doesn't see me)

2/ I got a segfault when clicked on the Cancel button of the send-message
dialog (a message was being sent and I cancelled it IIRC). Will try to
reproduce and get a backtrace.

3/ each time I try to update a MSN user info, the hourglass is shown endlessly
and I see the following message in network log (m and n increasing):
[SRV] Requesting meta info for (#m/#nn)...
[SRV] Unknown Location Family Subtype: 0001

4/ for one specific remote contact, I got badly decoded chars: "ó" (w/o the
quotes) instead of ò (accented o).

5/ when I log out from my MSN account, the network log shows:
[ERR] CMainWindow::slot_updatedUser(): Invalid user received: 0

I get this message twice when the remote user has left the conversation.
 [MSN] Connection with closed.
[ERR] CMainWindow::slot_updatedUser(): Invalid user received: 0
[ERR] CMainWindow::slot_updatedUser(): Invalid user received: 0

Regards,

Jon and I have seen this problem as well.
If I recall this correct, jon wanted to have a look at it, but he's really
busy these days...

[Licq-main] LICQ 1.3.0 identification

2004-11-16 Thread Arne Schmitz
One thing came to my attention: With all my friends that are using LICQ 1.3.0
I have the problem that we have to enforce SSL connections, because LICQ
thinks the peer doesn't support it. And indeed shows the bubble info of that
user neither that he or she uses LICQ nor that he or she supports SSL. I
think there's something wrong...

Sorry, I blew those away.
