Re: duplicate files

2021-01-10 Thread Emilio

I use Hazel to check for duplicate files, and it automatically deletes
duplicates for me. Hazel generally has a trial period, so you can test to
see if the program would work for you. This is completely voiceover
accessible. Www.noodlesoft.com is the web site where you can download the
program from.

Re: thoughts on Scrivener?

2017-02-15 Thread Emilio
Hello there,

I am a user of Scrivener, but admittedly I do not use all the feature this
robust writing compiler offers.
I like Scrivener because it allows me to contain all aspects of a document
in one location. For example, when writing a research paper, I can separate
all elements of the paper, and only focus on one section at a time.
I have not had success importing sources into a Scrivener project, and in
my view, it seems more efficient to just toggle between a PDF or text file,
rather than interacting with a table, accessing the research folder, and
opening a particular document.
I do like the exporting feature, which allows me to save a completed
document as a Microsoft Word file in preparation for sending to co-author
colleagues.
I have downloaded the Take Control of Scrivener book from Tidbits, which is
something I will read through for tips, tricks, and ideas on using this
program to its fullest potential.

Hope this has been helpful

Reference Citation Suggestions

I use APA 6th (ed) as my citation guide of choice.

Re: Anyone else disappointed with the "big" apple event

2016-03-23 Thread Emilio
Hello everyone,

My thoughts on the Apple keynote are positive. I like how the CEO did not
spend very much time discussing the company's position concerning the
recent debate over iOS security and the Government of the USA. I like how
his point was clear and succinct. The only thing I was interested in was
the iPad Pro 9.7 in. Announcement. Nothing too earth shattering here, but
glad to get final confirmation about the product. The tech pundits were
correct as is the case for the majority.
I did also like to see the prices finally enter the competitive market with
the rest of the world, but this was going to happen anyway. I still cannot
justify an Apple Watch because of the dependence to the iPhone, which I
hope will change and become an independent accessory because in that case
an AppleWatch would be well-worth the expense. However, it would still be
cool to talk into my wrist like Dick Tracy.

Merge PDFs with PDFPen Pro

Re: Problem with Logitech USB Headset

2015-10-20 Thread Emilio
Hello,

This may seem slightly convoluted, but if you are using a Logitech H800
bluetooth/wireless headset, then I have had this issue on a couple of
occasions.
In my case, it seems that I need to pair the headset with a bluetooth
device, so I just "flip the switch," let the headset be recognized by my
iPhone, then insert the USB adaptor, "flip the switch," once again, and I'm
off to the races so-to-speak.
This usually resolves my problem. As to why it occurs I cannot answer that,
but the method I outlined above does seem to help resolve the problem.
(This only occurs once every few months or so, so not a big deal).
In an extreme case, more recently however, I had to actually unpair the
headset from the iPhone completely, then repair the headset to the iPhone,
allow it to be recognized by the iPhone, which let me know a signal was
being transmitted, then repair the headset to the computer via the USB
adaptor. (I am using a mid 2010 iMac).

Again, I am not sure if this describes your problem, but if these steps do
help, then great. If not, then I hope you are able to find an alternative
solution to your problem.

Hope this has been helpful

Re: Problem with Logitech USB Headset

2015-10-20 Thread Emilio
Chris,

The Logitech H800 is a wireless/bluetooth capable headset.
I purchased it on Amazon for roughly $70. I have had it for two years
strong nearly, and I truly have no complaints. I purchased it at the
recommendation of an acquaintance, and subsequently, others have purchased
it it as well.
It sounds great when using it daily for FaceTime audio calls, and
conducting general computer activities on the Macintosh. The only caveat is
that when recording, the audio quality of the microphone is not too high,
so I need to increase this when editing. Otherwise, it works great.
However, with general bluetooth experiences I have had, the quality is poor
and not recommended for such use referring to making and receiving phone
calls. Listening to music on an iPhone sounds good, and the quality is
overall fine.
The only thing I do each day is when turning on my computer is first,
turning on the headset, pulling the microphone boom down, and inserting the
wireless receiver so it can be recognized by my computer.
After that all seems to work wonderfully well. Upon restart everything
connects fine with no additional steps, so not sure why I always have to
engage in my daily connection ritual.

Hope this has been helpful

Chromevox and voiceover Navication

2015-10-07 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I am learning the ins-and-outs of working with Chromevox, and so far I like it.
I like how flash is imbedded into Google Chrome, and I like how I can change
voices because the bubbly one at first activation was not ideal. Lol

My question deals with navigation through web sites etc. I am aware of the
navigation keys one must use to move through web sites, but is there an easier
method of navigation?
Presently,, I must press the CTRL-key, then the letter “N,” followed by an
additional letter such as, “E” to move to a search field, “C” to move to a
comobox, or “X” to love to the next link if I do not want to use the tab-key.
My original intent of learning how to use Chromvox is to learn how to create
Google documents, spreadsheets, and power points because I’ve heard that this
can be useful in some situations.

Additionally, what are ways others have found to navigate within comboboxes? I
found a work-around while in gmail using Google Chrome, but just curious to
know the methods of others’ who use this browser?

Finally, what are some plugins others who use Chrome can suggest to increase
the ease of using this browser?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Numbers Cell Format Help.

2015-09-08 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I thought I would try to post my problem once more, to see if I get better
results from those users who are knowledgable with Numbers.
Please read my message carefully because suggestions that have already been
attempted, do not need to be restated as possible solutions. Since said
"solutions," have been tried and have not worked is why I am writing.

Basically, my problem is that when inserting a series of 6-digits that start
with two zeros, the zeros are not appearing in the cell. The only digits that
are "visible" are the last four, which is okay, but I want the additional
numbers to appear.
For example, when inserting "001234," the "1234" are the only digits visible.
Thus, how do I alter the cell data to display all the digits within a given
cell?
I am aware of the cell format area, where particular elements of a cell's
contents can be changed, but after changing the "data area" to reflect
"numbers," the problem still persists.

I again, welcome valuable feedback.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: Numbers Cell Format Help.

2015-09-08 Thread Emilio
Hello Chris,

Appreciate your reply to my message.
I tried your method, but that did not work.
However, a solution I did find that does solve my problem is changing the
data area to text, which will preserve all digits entered into a cell.
This also is useful for credit card numbers, which is according to a post I
found through Google for users of Microsoft Excel no less.

but the remaining 4-digits out of the 6-digit number is visible.
How do I change this feature?

I do not see anything within the cell format area of the inspector pain.
I changed the series of cells to reflect numbers, but this has not helped.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: Saving attachments in Mail

2015-08-18 Thread Emilio

Another option concerning saving attachments is to send them to Dropbox.
Dropbox
Send To https://sendtodropbox.com/ is a great way to forward E-mail
messages with attachments to Dropbox, so they are in a “relatively” safe
location off of a computer. I do this for those attachments that are of
importance, then back them up to additional cloud services.

Hope this has been helpful

RSS Pipe Creation

2015-08-16 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

This message deals with generating curated RSS pipes for easier consumption of
specific news content.
I have tried using Yahoo Pipes, but I am not having much success with
voiceover. Has anyone so far experience success when using Yahoo Pipes on the
Macintosh?
Moreover, with the hope of generating a curated RSS pipe with specific content,
does anyone have voiceover accessible suggestions for an alternative “yahoo
pipe” complement?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

IFTTT Question.

2015-08-12 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I have an IFTTT question.
I’ve created a recipe that monitors my Google E-mail account for messages from
particular people, and when receiving a message I have my IFTTT recipe send me
a text message.
However, when I get messages from these people I never get a text message from
my IFTTI Recipe.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is occuring?
Also, what are some ways others have found web-based automation to be helpful
concerning IFTTT?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: Notes App Suggestions

2015-07-30 Thread Emilio
Hello everyone,

Scrivener is not free, and I believe it is about $50.
Another suggestion for notes that I like is using NV Alt in conjunction
with Simple Note.
NV Alt is free and can sync with your Simple Note account, which is a free
app you can download to your iPhone.
I have my NV Alt notes database housed in Dropbox, and I sync this to a
DevonThink database, so I can review notes there as well, but this is
probably a little too much information.
If one searches Google for both programs you will be able to find them
easily.

Hope this has been helpful - Cheers!

Duxbury in a VM Help

2015-07-29 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I posted this question a couple of week ago, but I thought I would try again to
see if anyone has suggestions.
Basically, when I use Duxbury in a Windows 7 VM Jaws stops announcing the text,
and only says “blank,” after about half a page approximately.
When I load the same document on a dedicated Windows machine the process of
editing my document is flawless.
My questions are what is happening for Jaws not to be announcing itself
correctly when using Duxbury in the VM, as opposed to a dedicated Windows
machine? What can I do to resolve this problem because I do not want to keep a
laptop around for this single purpose.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: Duxbury Printer Help with Virtual Windows Image

2015-07-18 Thread Emilio
Hello everyone,

Appreciate all the feedback. Yes, I forgot to connect the printer to the VM
Windows guest. (How silly of me).
I have another question about Duxbury as it relates to my use thereof
within my VM.
When I either open a document or cut-n-paste text into a print document for
translation and embossing, JAWS stops reading the text. It merely says
blank about half-way through editing. When I bring the same document or
repeat the above mentioned steps onto the laptop, the editing of the text
is not an issue.
Does anyone have any ideas why I'm getting such different results when
editing with JAWS on a dedicated Windows computer verses a Windows VM?
I am trying to stay away from a laptop if at all possible, but this problem
is puzzling.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Duxbury Printer Help with Virtual Windows Image

2015-07-14 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

The subject line is quite clear.
I have installed Duxbury on my virtual image of Windows, but I cannot figure
out how to ad a “virtual USB” port for the embosser?
I am mirroring my Windows configuration because this is presume to be ideal,
but my efforts are futile.
Basically, I do not know what to do since I do not see any virtual ports listed
in my printer properties for the Generic Text Printer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am using the same version of Windows 7 on both my laptop and my virtual image
of Windows on my iMac.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

P.S Thanks to the person who posted how to batch convert files with Amadeus Pro

File Source Details Help

2015-06-10 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

When accessing the “more info” feature of a particular file, I press VO-right
arrow and interact with the scroll area.
I use this same keystroke feature to move through the details of a file.
However, I am not able to view the “source” information about the file in
question.
I have not had good success with this and it is slightly frustrating.
I want to know if others on this list have found a solution that gives the
source details of a file i.e. From whence it was downloaded because I want to
use this information in a Hazel rule.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

MacTubes No Longer Working?

2015-05-11 Thread Emilio Hernandez

Hello everyone,

I have just downloaded the update to MacTubes because the previous version was
not providing youtube results.
Since this most recent update (3.1.6) I am still having the same issue.
Has anyone else experienced this same problem when searching youtube via
Mactubes?
If this problem is one that others have not been able to resolve, what
alternatives exist that are similar to Mactubes? I prefer video, not just
audio, so suggestions that are audio only are appreciated, but not necessary.

Re: ripping DVDs

2015-04-28 Thread Emilio
Juliette,

All you need to enter information for concerning TV shows is the title,
which is the episode title of the program, the show title, which refers
to the TV series name, and the episode number, which is the order by
which you want the shows to appear in your iTunes library, and this is also
how they will appear on the Apple TV.
The episode I.D. is something you can leave blank. Also, if you want to
have the TV program categorized by season, then enter a number value in the
season field.
Personally, I just number everything sequentially because when I load a TV
program on my Apple TV I want the episodes to appear in one single list,
which can be slightly time-consuming, but well-worth the effort as it is
reflected nicely when using the Apple TV.

Hope this has been helpful

Re: how to use the pdf pen to edit

2015-04-26 Thread Emilio
Juliette,

First, I want to merely imply that this is just another suggestion of
several you will receive concerning your topic.
The program that I have found useful is WonderShare Video Convertor. Typing
this program name into the Google search bar will provide you web site
information, as well as more details about the program and pricing.
Frankly, this program is roughly $75 and is worth the cost.
I use it exclusively and after telling other friends about it, they too,
have become proponents of this software.
I like it because it allows me to batch-convert hundreds of files at once,
and while converting into .mp4, it compresses the file, so as to utilize
as little space as possible.
For example, if I have a television folder that is roughly about 20GB after
processing through WonderShare, it will greatly reduce the output files,
which could be as less as 25%. Or, if I have a file that is slightly larger
than 1GB the output could be as little as 700MB. Please know these numbers
are rough estimates and are not to be considered actual percentages.

Concerning ripping from a DVD, the process is straight-forward. Just insert
your DVD into your optical bay, and select either main movie, or all
chapters. Before this process however,, a popup should appear that will
inform you that you will need to download a plugin so encryption can be
bypassed. Once this is complete, you, are off to the races.

Finally, because the default output is .mp4, iTunes will recognize the
files with no problem. A caveat is that the media files will default to the
movies folder, which is not a problem. This is where you can either
select all or manually choose the files you wish to recategorize -
selecting the TV show option within the options tab of the information
area.
The process I go through to have TV shows appear correctly, on my Apple
TV is to remove the season #, then number the files in numerical order
within the episode box of each file. This is somewhat time-consuming and
slightly arduous, but well-worth the effort when launching my Apple TV and
viewing all the files for a program in a order list.
This process is not for everyone, but I do not mind the effort because it
is exactly how I want the content to appear.
Thus, I hope this lengthy reply has been helpful for you.

Cheers.

Re: Logos Bible Software

2015-04-01 Thread Emilio
Hello everyone,

While these Bible sites are fine, they all are completely reliant on the
Internet, which is something I do not want to be completely tethered to.
I am interested in a program that will allow me to download the content, so
I may have access to information without needing to connect to the
Internet. This would prove especially useful when I am in areas where
Internet access is not available. Contrary to modern first-world belief,
the Internet is not ubiquitous.
It is a shame however, that Logos is not voiceover accessible because this
software package seems ideal for edification.

Cheers.

m4b File Merging

2015-03-31 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

Does anyone know of an accessible program that would allow me to merge m4b

files for one book.

Re: Sass for the mac.

2015-03-16 Thread Emilio
During my first round of grad school I found SPSS to be not accessible with
JAWS. From what I recall, I do not think any accessibility measures has
been interjected into the program for screen readers. Some documentation
exists that does suggest some effort has been previously made with SPSS 14,
but this was several years ago. I purchased this particular software
package with no usable results.
However, it has been my experience that the majority of statistical
computations can be accomplished with Microsoft Excel. (The output is not
as esthetic, but manageable).
In some cases I have worked with fellow colleagues to complete assignments,
devise an alternative course of action with professors, and have even hired
others to help sort and simplify large amounts of raw data for thesis work.

hope this has been helpful

Hello,

could you please share your experiences with SPSS 23? I am very interested

Particularly, I am interested in those things you have been able to

Furthermore, have you found navigation to be an issue when returning to a

VM 7 Microsoft Question

2015-03-05 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I am running Windows 7 with the latest version of Fusion.
I was trying to insert comments into a MS Word file yesterday, but to no avail.
I am curious if others have had this same issue, or if anyone knows of an
alternative method to accomplish this task?
Usually, I can press “alt-I,” then the letter “M” for the comment feature,
either type or paste my comment into the edit field, then return back to normal
view by pressing “alt-V” and selecting the view feature.
However, in both Windows 7 and Windows XP this has not been possible, except
for the first comment, but all subsequent attempts fail.

Welcome any feedback others have concerning this issue.

Keyboard Maestro Question

Re: How do I mount networked drive?

2015-02-14 Thread Emilio
Hello,

I have found that the most effective way of mounting a network drive (NAS)
to a computer is by accomplishing this through the connect to server
feature. This can be accessed through CMD-K.
Before accessing this feature you will need to have your IP address for the
network drive in question, and the username and password as the login
credentials.
If you try and retrieve these while the server window is open it will
cancel-out your server request. Thus, by having the aforementioned items
in-hand, you can type these into the correct fields, and your drive should
connect without error.
Therefore, when you access the server window, you will need to type
smb://ip address of network drive, then insert your username and password
where appropriate.

Hope this has been helpful

Re: creating a list of what's on your drive

2015-02-14 Thread Emilio
Hello,

A program that I have used with great success is List Export. This can be
purchases on the Mac App Store for a few follars, and is worth the cost for
list creation.
All one does is simply highlight the folder in question, select the output
tyle, which Excell will be the only option, then accept the settings.
In a few minutes (depending on the folder size) an output file will be
placed into the location you specify. Below is a link to the Mac App Store
where further investigation can help determine if this is a program ideal
for your needs - enjoy.

Omni Focus Date Creation

Welcome any feedback.

Re: BusyCal Accessibility Improved?

2015-02-02 Thread Emilio
Hello there,

Tell me more about OMni Focus please?
I hear people on various tech podcasts rave about its utility.
How accessible have you found it to be with voiceover?
Does Omni Focus work well with the iDevice application as well?

Thanks

BusyCal Accessibility Improved?

2015-02-02 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

Has anyone tried using BusyCal as of late?
I know when it first was released it seemed moderately accessible, but
accessing the calendar table was not possible.
Thus, I am curious to know if anyone on this list has made any further attempts
of reaching the developers who seemed aloof and not very interested.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

DevonThink Office Pro and DevonAgent Pro: My Thoughts So Far

2015-01-30 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I have been using DevonThink Office Pro, and DevonAgent for a few weeks now.
I posted several weeks ago that my experience has been quite well so far (given
that both programs are voiceover compatible).
Recently, I have incorporated DevonAgent into the mix, and my experience is
still pleasing.
DevonAgent is a little different in that it is more than just a place to search
via the Internet, but instead it gives users the ability to hone the power of
DevonAgent in a way that maximizes search results efficiently.
For example, I can create a “search set,” which is basically a rule I can apply
to a particular search, and based on the criteria I am wanting, DevonAgent will
return results that filter duplicates, provide results that either exclude or
include PDF or text files, and so-on and so-forth.
Additionally, with the aforementioned criteria, I can select “plugins,” or more
commonly known, “web sites,” that DevonAgent will search simultaneously. Thus,
presenting more results from several web sites at once. Moreover, I can choose
to E-mail, import the content into DevonThink, or save the file as a PDF, which
are all great ways to capture the content.
I am only sharing my experience as a point of reference for those who are
interested in using this program for their own information organizing or
research needs.
However, if anyone wishes to discuss this topic further please feel free to
reply to this post or E-mail off-list - enjoy.

P.S An educational discount is available (provided one has their university
credentials for authentication).

Hope this has been helpful

Re: OCR PDF Files

2015-01-25 Thread Emilio
Hello GiGi,

I do have PDFPen Pro version 6.3.2.
In some cases PDFPen does give me the option to OCR text, which is fine.
However, in other cases (as in the one described) PDFPen does not
consistently give me the feature to OCR text.
Thus, I am left in a predicament because of my irregular experience with
using PDFPen to OCR text, and the document in question is too large to
simply print and scan with proprietary software.

I have tried using Prizmo on the Macintosh, but the results are not great.
Furthermore, I do observe (at least in this case) that when trying to open
the document in Preview or another program, the optically recognized text
reverts back to image status, which is less than ideal because I am back
at square one.
Therefore, I am at a loss.
Welcome any feedback concerning my issue.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

OCR PDF Files

2015-01-24 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

My subject line sums up what I am wanting to accomplish.
I have some style guides that are images, which I want to preform OCR on.
However, I am unsure of how to go about this because generally I scan files
using my Fujitsu ScanSnap, or in some rare cases, I can load a PDF into PDFPen
Pro and it will give me the option to preform OCR on a document.
Never-the-less, these two solutions are not available. Therefore, what are
others doing when the aforementioned options are not possible?
Welcome any helpful feedback.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: Problem with Safari running on Yosemite

2015-01-22 Thread Emilio
Hello,

One option is if the document is in an E-mail, you can fwd the file to
yourself by creating a send to Dropbox account.
The follwoing link will take you to the site where you can log in with your
Dropbox credentials.
Here, please note the automatically generated E-mail account, which is what
you will use to forward your E-mails to that have attachments.

https://sendtodropbox.com/

Once this has been created, a subfolder will automatically be placed into
your Dropbox folder titled, apps.
Within this subfolder, another subfolder will be added titled
attachments, which is where all attached files will be placed.

Re: Any disadvantages with file volt?

2015-01-18 Thread Emilio
Hello,

I have attempted to use File Vault in the past, but in one case I had a
unique situation that proved highly problematic.
I essentially was unencrypting my HD because I needed to reformat my
machine, but File Vault failed in the midsts of unencryption.
This locked my HD and prevented me from being able to unlock the partition,
so it could be erased.
During the Mountain Lion days I could go into the terminal access the UUID,
and type an erase commend with the UUID that would allow me to erase my HD,
but since that OS (correct me if I am wrong), but this is no longer
possible.
Thus, I would just exercise caution when using file vault, and know that
this is one case where file vault failed.

Hope this has been helpful

2015-01-18 Thread Emilio
Hello,

I am aware of these alternatives to reading the text, but in my case I

it should be, since this is a jaws function that works well.
Furthermore, when using the mouse keys on the numpad, I am not able to
select words, which is what I am trying to accomplish. I have to go
character-bycharacter, which really stinks.
I know under XP this is not a problem,a nd gien my limited reason for
needing Windows, it might be worth the risk of using that since all I do is
format documents anyway.

Windows 7 CTRL-right and left arrow Function Problem

2015-01-18 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I am using VMWare Fusion 7 running Windows 7.
While using JAWS 14 I am experiencing a CTRL-right and left arrow function
problem.
Basically, when trying to use this function, it does not seem to work with
JAWS. All other subsequent arrow functions work fine.
Has anyone experienced this same issue? I primarily encounter this when trying
to navigate through text within Microsoft Word.
It is a cumbersome problem because it makes navigating text very difficult.
Thus, does anyone have a solution that can remedy my issue?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

DevonThink: First Impressions

2015-01-09 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

These are just some general thoughts about my limited experience with using
DevonThink.
Installing the program is typical of most Apple-developed software, so no
explanation is necessary.
Frankly, I am quite impressed with the accessibility of the software. I have
been able to create groups, modify tags for various items, and import or index
files with ease.
A caveat is that in some instances of opening PDF files within the program, the
content appears as “static text,” which is easily overcome by pressing
“CMD-shift-o,” rather than, “CMD-O.)
Furthermore, I have been able to import documents from EverNote. I have many
articles saved, so to access these from within one general location with ease
is definitely a great advantage. Moreover, if additional articles are saved to
a particular notebook, upon import, only those articles that were recently
added will be indexed. Side note: EverNote needs to be installed for this to
work successfully.

Another great feature, which makes DevonThink an excellent tool for those in
academia or in other research-heavy professions is that preforming a “keyword”
search of your entire database is possible.
For instance, if I have an idea of a particular article or document I want to
read or share, but I am unsure of the tile, but I can recall a few “keywords,”
then invoking the search function with “CMD-shift-F” will place voiceover into
an edit field where I may type the select words for the search. By pressing
“enter,” the search will commence, and in a layout table (accessible with VO-T)
the most recent document will appear with a percentage value corresponding to
the accuracy of the content relevant to the search.

Finally, accessing the options within the source table, is possible, but one
needs to preform a mouse-click on the highlighted feature he or she wants to
view. For example, if I only want to view the “recently added” content, I
interact with the source table, VO-down arrow until I come to this option, and
preform a mouse-click, and interact with the layout table, which will display
the “recently added” items.

In my opinion, DevonThink is the “iTunes” of file management. I am excited to
have this program available to me during my second round of grad school.

Voiceover Accessibility of DevonThink 2.8.2

Hello,

The feature you described is moving files.
Once you select the content you want to relocate, go to the new directory

Voiceover will announce that you are moving the files and folders, and
you will hear a sound indicating the transfer is complete.

File Management Database

2014-12-22 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

Can anyone suggest a file management database program that is voiceover
accessible for the Macintosh?
I use EverNote for some things, but because of the limited accessibility on the
iPhone, it does not seem to be an ideal method for sorting through files.
Moreover, the desktop client is less accessible.
I am wanting a program that will give me as much usability as possible. I know
DevonThink is a Macintosh client, but it is not accessible (unless updates have
been made that I am not privy to).
Welcome any suggestions.

Accessing Hidden Sounds in yosemite

2014-12-21 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

The subject line summarizes my inquiry.
I note that “custom” sounds can be assigned to FaceTime callers, but how can
additional sounds be added to this default list, so that personalized sounds
and ringtones can be options from which to select from?
Or, if this is not possible, how can the default sounds be accessed, so they
can be modified to reflect the personal ringtones and sounds of choice?
If neither is possible, again, another customization element where Apple seems
to be late to the game.

P.S. I note that when inserting the set of personalized sounds into either
“~/library/sounds,” or into “~/library/audio/alerts,” or into
“~/library/audio/sounds,” they do not appear for me to select in other
applications as well. If I am misguided in my attempts, then I welcome any
correction that will solve this problem.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Instapaper Safari Extension Help

2014-12-09 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I have installed the safari extension and the “Instapaper” button appears in my

When I press “VO-space” on this button it merely loads the Instapaper web site.
I was under the presumption that the extension would place a Instapaper share

Is my thinking about this feature incorrect?
Does anyone have an idea as to how I can place a Instapaper Safari extension
into the share option within the Safari sharing feature?

Re: Fujitsu ScanSnap | Accessibility of ScanSnap Manager with VoiceOver

2014-12-05 Thread Emilio
The pricing concerning the Fujitsu Scansnap, varies. I purchased the S1300i
model through Amazon for $250.
This includes the Scansnap software with ABBYY Fine Reader and the scanner.
My scanner is a 9-page tray machine with a very compact footprint.
It is all quite easy to setup and use. I wish I had this during my first
round of graduate school because while Kurzweil is great for the Windows
platform, it was slightly cumbersome to constantly load VMFusion just to
scan textbooks.
In this case, I would be more willing to have the binding removed so
scanning could be less of a chore, and more of a minutes process, rather
than a devoted period of time that cut into reading.
Furthermore, while I know the 1500 model is slightly more expensive because
of the wireless capability, I would like it for the 50-page loading tray,
which would be easier to work with. I have been creative and have inserted
several pages behind the 9-page limit, but sometimes the scanner does get
the better of me. :)

Hope this has been helpful

Re: victor reader stream

2014-12-04 Thread Emilio
Lorie,

The short answer is yes.
You simply insert your SD card into the SD card slot.
This is done by inserting the SD card into the plastic adaptor, then
sliding this into the SD slot on your computer.
The macintosh will automatically recognize the SD as an external drive.
From this point you can then access the folder structure of the SD card and
copy-n-paste content from your Mac to the appropriate folder within the VRS
folder of choice - enjoy.

Hope this has been helpful

Re: Fujitsu ScanSnap | Accessibility of ScanSnap Manager with VoiceOver

2014-11-30 Thread Emilio
Hello Nick and others,

In response to this thread, I have to agree that the Fujitsu ScanSnap
product line is a good method for scanning documents.
Nick, I would be interested to see what Hazel rules you create to help make
your processing of scanned documents more efficient.
I first heard of the ScanSnap series of scanners from the Mac Power Users
podcast. Additionally, this is the same podcast that introduced me to
Hazel, LaunchBar, Text Expander, and of course, the Scan Snap.
I am using the S1300I model, which is very nice.
While it is true that files need to be converted with the proprietary
software, PDFPen Pro has done well at preforming OCR on some files for me.
Nick, in your post you did mention that you were able to successfully
configure your ScanSnap to automatically preform OCR on documents after
they were scanned? could you tell me how you accomplished this?
Furthermore, the unlabeled buttons are easily definable, but it is somewhat
tedious to determine what each does without invoking the function of said
unlabeled button. Thus, here is the list from left-to-right:
Delete, File, Mail, Print, Mobile, Dropbox, Google docs, and Salesforce
Chatter.
It appears after this, while there appear to be more unlabeled buttons,
they seem to repeat in functionality.

Daisy File Conversion

If this conversion is not possible, does a daisy reader exist that is

Re: Launch Bar Audio Question

2014-06-25 Thread Emilio

Furthering this discussion, I will add that pressing the “enter” key is not
always necessary.

For example, when typing the letters “S, H, U,” as LaunchBar begins to
“learn” the keystrokes, holding the letter “u,” will automatically initiate
the “shut-down” command.

Similarly, this works for other applications and files.

Abbreviation shortcuts are also another great feature that I use regularly.

When indexing a folder, in this case “automatically add to iTunes,” I
simply highlight the folder, press “command-option-A” to initiate the
abbreviation shortcut key assignment feature, press the letters “A, A,”
then press enter.

Now when I invoke LaunchBar (regardless where my location is at), I can
just press the letters “A, A,” and the automatically add to iTunes,” folder
immediately appears.

Finally, a feature I greatly enjoy is when selecting a file or a series of
files I want to insert as attachments, I merely press the “tab” key and
begin typing the recipient’s name to whom I want the files to be sent to.

After locating the correct E-mail address, I just press “enter,” and the
files are automatically inserted into the body of the message as attached
files with the recipient’s E-mail address already inserted in the “sent to”
field.

All that is left is merely to type a subject line and small note, and send
the message.

These are just some ways I use LaunchBar.

I am excited to get my hands on the most recent update to LaunchBar, which
is version 6.

Moreover, I recommend subscribing to the Mac Power Users podcast because
while not everything is applicable for voiceover users, the majority of
information provided by guests, the hosts, and other sources of information
– are all quite helpful to some degree.

Cheers.

Re: Good iPhone app for recording audio snippets

Another good program that I like using is DropBox.

This program uploads audio files that are recorded to dropbox, and within
the setting area of DropVox, you can direct the files to be uploaded to a
particular folder.

In my case, I have my files automatically upload to a folder called
“recordings.”

Moreover, you can use this program in the background with your screen
locked if you so desire. Once you are done recording, simply “double-tap”
the screen when focus is on DropVox, and the upload will automatically
occur.

Hope this has been Helpful.

Re: Call History from a few months ago?

2014-05-26 Thread Emilio
Christina,

Have you tried downloading your previous cellular carrier invoices?
I know when with ATT I could download previous spreadsheets from months
past, which did have a detailed list of all calls made with duration of
call, time call was made, received, and ended; and other interesting
albeit, negligible details.

Hope this has been helpful.

Voiceover and iTunes Navigation

2014-05-26 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

Since the recent iTunes update, I have had an issue that is not so much a
problem, but an annoyance.
Basically, I am no longer able to access content via first letter navigation
when interacting with a content table.
In order for this feature to occur, I must first stop interacting with the
layout table, then press the series of letters either for the TV show or
artist, then resume interacting with the table to be taken to the desired
content.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is this a problem among the compatibility of
Voiceover and iTunes? Is this an isolated case?
I recently had to reinstall OS X, so I am not sure if a setting is not set
correctly, but I do not think so.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: olympus recorders

2014-04-30 Thread Emilio
Hello everyone,

I have used the Olympus DM 520 with great success.
It does use voice guidance. It also does use rechargeable batteries, which
takes four hours to recharge when plugged into the computer.
At the time of purchase, I was able to buy the recorder for $171 from
Amazon several years ago.

Hope this has been helpful.

SuperDuper Folder Exclusion

2014-04-26 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I am reading through the Super Duper manual, but with little success of
understanding how to create a script.
Basically, I want to set a script, which when selected will only smart copy my
documents folder.
I am aware that I need to first select my backup script as the primary item I
want to manipulate (insuring this item is ignored)
Then I need to add the documents folder as the item I want copied.

I am not sure if this understanding I have gleamed is correct.
If anyone has had experience with this I would greatly appreciate help in
increasing my understanding...

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: Scanners revisited

2014-04-26 Thread Emilio
Hello,

I personally use a Fujitsu ScanSnap document scanner.
I purchased mine on Amazon for $250, which came with a very small scanner
that has an attached document feeder (10 pages), and AbbyFineReader.
Note: this will not scan textbooks, but it is merely for letters, postal
mail, and business cards, ETC.
Each scan takes approximately 7 seconds per page, which is duplex capable,
so both pages are scanned in one attempt.
I know others on this list use the same type of scanner, but different
models.

Hope this has been helpful.

Com.apple.com

2014-04-25 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I am trying to access the downloads folder where my mail attachments are
stored.
From listening to a Mac Power Users podcast, the hosts provide the file path
as:
/users/username/library/containers/com.apple.com/data/library/maildownloads.
However, when trying to access this file path nothing happens, and when trying
to search for this com.apple.com folder within the various subfolders of my
directory, I am not able to locate it within the containers folder.
Does anyone have any ideas on where this folder may be located, or if the
folder has been changed to a new location?
I am using Mavericks, and I want to access this folder so I can create a Hazel
rule to move the attached downloads to a different location on my HD.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: 1password accessibility with voiceover

2014-04-11 Thread Emilio
Andrew,

I will echo Keith's sentiments here.
OnePassword (OP) is a great program that I have used for a little over a
year now.
I have the application installed on my iMac and iPhone.
The developers are invested in insuring this program work well with
Voiceover. I have personally communicated with the development team
concerning Voiceover questions I have had in the past, and their response
and dedication are stellar.
A caveat From my experiences so far, is that passwords must be initially
generated from the iPhone app because when trying to generate one from the
app on the Mac, I am not able to interact with the password area and select
the criteria and length of my password. (This could all be something I am
not doing correctly, so anyone please feel free to correct me).
Generating passwords on the iPhone is great and when I am ever creating a
new account, OnePassword is at the ready. Furthermore, when accessing a
site's login area, I can just interact with the address bar and type OP
before the URL and after confirming this change, OnePassword will launch
and allow me to insert my unique password, which leads to another great
feature of OP, which is the integrated browser.
This is where I have all my passwords and program licenses stored. I have
the program synced in Dropbox, so there is always a copy available.
You mention your concern with problems. One thing i will say is that I have
not had any serious computer issues so far that have jeopardized my OP
repository. Just keep a backup elsewhere whether it be in another cloud
service or flash drive alternative, and you should be fine.

Re: Keyboard Maestro question

2014-04-07 Thread Emilio
Keith,

Glad to see that you have endured the freaking-out experience for me
(much appreciated). Lol
Basically, what I am wondering is if it is possible to set a series of
keystrokes to work within one macro?
For instance, I want to set a macro to execute upon application launch,
which then changes the system input and output sounds respectively, and
once the program closes, the system sounds will then deactivate
(returning back to their normal settings).

Thanks

Thank you for that bit of info because that is the step I was not

Appreciate the podcast by the way.

you have any tips how I can configure this program to work better for me

Hazel Discussion

2014-04-06 Thread Emilio

To begin the conversation, Hazel is a file management program that
automates various tasks. These tasks are known as “rules,” which a user
develops by first, selecting a folder, second, titling, and adding a rule,
and finally, setting the criteria the rule will execute. For instance, I
have a rule that basically tells my downloads folder to move files that are
named with the title “take control,” into a separate sub-folder elsewhere
on my HD. Noodle Soft, http://www.noodlesoft.com/ is the software
development company that produces Hazel. Moreover, Hazel can be tried for
two weeks until a decision will need to be made to purchase the program for
$25. Mac Power Users http://www.macpowerusers.com/ is a podcast where I
first learned about Hazel. This podcast is one I highly recommend because
at the minimum, co-hosts David and Katie, along with special guests, offer
innovative ideas, methods, and techniques on how to increase one’s
productivity with their Apple products. A link to the podcast discussing
Hazel and be found here - enjoy.

Keyboard Maestro question

2014-04-06 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello Keith and others,

If I am understanding correctly, recording a macro basically is me executing a
series of keyboard commands that Keyboard Maestro can use to compile a custom
macro?
I am a little hesitant to record because if I am remembering correctly from the
podcast that once the macro has been created I need to immediately exit out of
the record area, so as not to alter a Voiceover keystroke by accident?
I know that pressing CTRL-F1 will toggle between the record and stop-record
feature, but I am unsure when I will know when the feature is activated because
Voiceover did not give any indication that the feature has been enabled. Hence,
I just do not want to screw anything up because once I accidentally enabled
sticky keys, which was a B**ch to disable using only a keyboard.
Essentially, I just want to record a macro that either is toggled on and off by
the launch of an application or keystroke. However, I feel this request will be
a little complex because it will involve changing the system input and output
sounds; hence, the ability of recording the macro because the feature is not
available within the system control area of KBM.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Keyboard Maestro Actions Question

2014-04-05 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I recently listened to an AppleVis podcast about Keyboard Maestro.
I am grateful this application is Voiceover accessible, however, I am having a
bit of a problem.
I have created a new macro, titled it accordingly, selected the USB device I
want a program to launch, selected the application action feature, but I do not
know how to select the application in question that I want to start.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I am missing because I am not understanding
my error. I feel I am 90% finished, but the obvious 10% is stumping me.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Amadeus Pro Channels Question.

2013-11-22 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

When recording with Amadeus Pro, my sound input and output filter through the
left and right speakers respectively.
Selecting the “sound tab in the preferences pane, then choosing either “input”

When seeing if my change has been accepted, to my dismay it has not - in fact
it seems to revert back to the default setting for each element.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make my recordings stay centered,
so the sound comes through both speakers?
