As mentioned earlier they have to be set into an "AP Client" mode. Meaning they have to have the ability to look like another computer to the main router and pull bandwidth that way to push behind it. Most routers, once they are set to that mode, no longer work with other wireless computers. Other routers use a "Repeater" mode where it picks up the signal coming from the main router and simply extend the range. Most of these can't do what you want, because they don't actually pull/push bandwidth, they just reannounce the signal coming to it from the other router. Having the model numbers we can help you research which of them, if any, have the ability you need. Ed -- Knowledge is power... Power Corrupts. Study hard... Be Evil.

Hi there colleagues Happy New Year from the Antipodes. Don't know how your winters are progressing, but this summer, we're having a mild winter. Warrant of Fitness tests are imminent so it's time to install the new rear suspension struts on my 1985 300TD. I don't intend to fit them myself but I would like to safe precious funds by preparing as much of the vehicle as possible. Saves paying my MB-fixer to do what I can myself. So, what's the plan? I gather that the struts are installed from within. Presumably this means tearing out all the luggage compartment flooring and panels? Anyone done this before? Re: [MBZ] O.T. Hey There Okie Boys
On our drive across CO and KS a couple weeks ago, on pack ice and snow, a lot a them western cowboys showed the same skills with their pickemups, along with the Tahoe/Suburban/Lexus crowd. "We're OK honey, we have FOUR WHEEL DRIVE!" (but no-wheel stop!) I tried to maintain about 200ft to the car in front of me, but invariably some jerk would get up on my bumper, trying to push me to get closer. Then when I wasn't moving closer, he would pass on the really bad side, where no one was driving, then cut in front of me and go get up on the bumper of the car in front. Then I would see him hit his brakes and watch the rear end start to come loose -- so I would drop back a bit more. {Snow is a solvent on the glue of society in DC) --R andrew strasfogel wrote: It's snowing here in D.C. Re: [MBZ] [OT] Radial Engines
Yeah, the Confederate Air Force has what I believe to be the last operating one -- they have been retired for some years now from waterbomber work out west (so have their converted Lockheed Hercules, I think). The exhaust comes out of the bottom of the engine nacelle straight off the turbocharger turbine -- the blades of the turbine are visible, as I remember. Some of the noise comes from the props, too -- and the old British squadrons were much worse for noise as they didn't synchronize the engines for reasons I don't wish to speculate upon. Synchronizing the props greatly reduces the vibration on the plane and reduces the noise of each individual plane some. No one was surprised by a high altitude air raid, you could hear them for some minutes before they arrived, although exact location wouldn't have been easy to determine. A couple hundred (or a thousand) B17s thundering along would shake the ground!. Peter

Heh. Yeah. We had a B-17 on display at the local airport here a couple of years ago. The were offering rides, but it was too rich for my blood (couple of hundred $$ for a 30 minute flight). Probably the same plane that flew over our house last fall. Loud, I recall that. And shiny. My 5yo boy recognized it from a book of military planes that grandpa had given him. Aren't too many operable B17's left, and I know a guy that bought a ride in it. (Not that day, however.) Don't think I'd have liked hearing a flock of those coming my way in the 40's! -- Jim

Re: [MBZ] Mercedes Quality
Quality is a lot more than esthetics. And if car buyers truly only cared about "fit & finish" the every auto maker in the world would produce cars that were cosmically perfect & ran about 3 years. I agree that Mercedes interiors don't seem to be what they were but in no way are they cheap interiors. The last one I sat in was pretty sharp. Regarding pre-90's Mercedes quality. I'm sure you are aware of the 300SDL head troubles & the early 90's 350SDL rod benders? How about the long term SL sub-frame cracking issues that Mercedes fixed under warranty, but only after you cornered them with the issue? And the 380 engine with the single row timing chain that had the tendency to fail before 100,000 miles & if you were lucky, only bent 2 valves? And the oil leak issues in the 280 engine? And the oil leak issues in the late 80's 300 & 260 engine? And the climate control blower motor issues in the early 300E's (no fuse)? And the transmissions that shifted hard into first gear. I know that they were supposed to do that but no one else's transmission did it & it was a real "quality issue" with Mercedes owners at the time. The list is much longer. I'm not saying that any of these cars were junk, they had issues just like all cars have issues. I do believe that today's Mercedes are far superior then what was manufactured back then. And they too have issues, some we won't know about for years. The pump has two bleeders, one to drain the oil and one to fill till overflow (fill verification). On my '72 220D, the vacuum pump never needed oiling. Replaced the diaphragm once, but that was it. Now the INJECTION pump is a different story. When doing an oil change, I had to remove the red Oel cap on the top of the pump, loosen the bleeder on the side next to the engine, and add oil until oil flowed out of the bleeder, displacing diesel. Re: [MBZ] 115 Vacuum Pump Oiling
The vacuum pump does not require oiling but the IP does! I cant tell from the diagram in the procedure, but it looks like you have to unbolt and remove the pump from the engine in order to access the oil fill plug. Has anyone had any experience doing this? When did MB switch to automatic oiling of the pump from the engine? I have never read any mention of this needing done for my 85 300D. Eric, I drove my 74 240D to 247,000 miles and never oiled the vacuum pump! You MUST be talking about the injection pump. When the 300D came out in 75, they used pressure oiling on the injection pumps. A small line off the block near the timing chain feeds oil to the injection pump via a small orifice. Excess oil continuously overflows back to the crankcase This carried over to 240D in 76. Oop, you're right. We don't own cats - they allow us to share our lives with them. Brian In loving memory of "Squeaky" On 1/20/07, Zeitgeist <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: I resemble that comment. Re: [MBZ] 560SEL purchase
Yeah our V12 gets 11 city and 15 highway. The girls have been letting me drive lately. So today I went to Home Depot to walk around and strengthen my legs and back. Sitting at the traffic light I pulled away at warp speed with half throttle. Back was throbbing after that but the smile on my face was worth it. Maybe a neighbor who once had a nice cat for a pet? On 1/20/07, Zoltan Finks <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Yeah, no, not kidding. I poured rubbing alcohol on all affected areas including where unknown liquid had splattered. Used a small camping shovel to gently scrape the seat off. I've got no enemies, and in fact don't know many folks around here except on an acquaintance level. Figure it was just a prank of convenience. That, or someone with a beef with the PO of my car (he does have enemies). No, I haven't been locking my doors - my wife has me trying to be less suspicious of people and trying to see the good out there. It's an old car with nothing inside worth stealing. Didn't factor in the possibility of someone wanting to simply vandalize for giggles. Actually I think it may be that some druggies were sitting around and one of them came out of the bathroom and said, dude, you have to come look at this! And the impressiveness of the specimen sparked the idea for a drive by logging. Brian On 1/20/07, Kaleb C. Striplin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > you have to be kidding?
