The other is a 280sel (w110) that has rear quarter panel damage.
Monkeys got in and tore the dash pad off, busted the locks so driver

was not nailed down. Engine compartment is not touched.

Brown leather seats and most of the wood looked great. I am trying to

Will I be able to access the hinges with the glove box liner removed,

There is quite a range of adjustment possible in the hinges and in
the latch hook. Mess with it first. If your latch mechanism works
properly I wouldn't be replacing it unnecessarily. Lots of them
don't work right anymore, nothing to do with hinges or alignment.

really requires YEARS of experience and on the job wisdom. That includes
knowing when to pull the hub off of the car and taking it to the bench

The original lug bolts on '86+ 126/107s are especially problematic as
they are prone to snap above the collar and Mercedes has recommended
replacing them with the shorter lugs as were used on the '86+ 201/124s.

I tried to maintain about 200ft to the car in front of me, but

bad side, where no one was driving, then cut in front of me and go get

stuck and started to bend (then I twisted off a 1/2x3/8 adapter), so I
gave up and sprayed with PB every day for a week, I came back with a 17mm

The 210's had the necked bolts as well (through 99 at least)

The bolt that caused me the issue was an E-10 headed bolt that secured the
torsion bar to the chassis. The bot had been up-reved to a Hex head bolt,
and all of them lost the ears on them coming out, but this last one did
it just a little too soon. It was one of those microencapsulated

Whomever developed that fetish for E-torx fastener heads should be shot.

segregated supply (not sure that is still true since ULSD had to be 80%
of what is delivered). I don't mind spending several minutes to fill my
cars if I must when the fuel I'm putting in them is clearly superior fuel.

Yeah. I don't know of too many BP stations, one of them is in White Marsh,
and I was by there last night. Oddly enough I drive past their Solar
facility in Frederick daily. I usually get my fuel from Gasmart in
Virginia, though my m ileage is sucking recently. I'm tempted to drop a
250 or 500 gal double-wall in the back yard and have Tevis come fill it up
with Biodiesel every so often.

[MBZ] Process for installing 300TD's rear suspension struts

Hi there colleagues

Happy New Year from the Antipodes. Don't know how your winters are
progressing, but this summer, we're having a mild winter.

Warrant of Fitness tests are imminent so it's time to install the new
rear suspension struts on my 1985 300TD. I don't intend to fit them
myself but I would like to safe precious funds by preparing as much of
the vehicle as possible. Saves paying my MB-fixer to do what I can myself.

So, what's the plan? I gather that the struts are installed from within.
Presumably this means tearing out all the luggage compartment flooring
and panels? Anyone done this before?

You'll probably find an above-ground tank is easier to permit, even with the
required spill containment pad. There's a reason you usually see
above-ground tanks at farms and small airports these days.

You need one router and one bridge. Two routers cannot talk to each other
generally. You would then need another AP to redistribute. PITA to do it
that way. Now if you had a Cisco AP (not linksys) it could act as a
wireless repeater.

Clay,

Tell us the model numbers that you have of these routers. *Some*
routers simply can not do what you are asking, period. As mentioned
earlier they have to be set into an AP Client mode. Meaning they
have to have the ability to look like another computer to the main
router and pull bandwidth that way to push behind it. Most routers,
once they are set to that mode, no longer work with other wireless
computers.

Other routers use a Repeater mode where it picks up the signal
coming from the main router and simply extend the range. Most of these
can't do what you want, because they don't actually pull/push
bandwidth, they just reannounce the signal coming to it from the other
router.

Having the model numbers we can help you research which of them, if
any, have the ability you need.

[MBZ] 115 Vacuum Pump Oiling

2007-01-21 Thread Eric Anderton

Well after surfing around on my 114/115 MB Service Manual CD I discovered to my
chagrin that the vacuum pump on my 74 240D requires maintenance by
addition of oil. I cant tell from the diagram in the procedure, but it
looks like you have to unbolt and remove the pump from the engine in
order to access the oil fill plug. Has anyone had any experience doing
this? When did MB switch to automatic oiling of the pump from the
engine? I have never read any mention of this needing done for my 85

None of the 86 on up diesels say diesel on the back, they just say
turbo, 2.5 turbo etc, till you get to the 95 E300, it says diesel on the
back. Then when the turbod it it says turbodiesel. The 140 started out
not saying anything, turbo or otherwise. I think the last year or 2 of
them said turbodiesel, although that may have been something somebody
added on. I have seen them say that but didnt think they came that way
orignally.

[MBZ] PnP adventure

2007-01-21 Thread Redghost
Finally got out of the city and was able to hit the PnP. Hundreds of
my closest pals had the same idea on this sunny day, so getting a
wheelbarrow was out of the question. That kept the haul to a minimum.

Found two Benz. Nice 1965 190D with engine still there and sheet metal
looking great, but for the large rust patch on the driver door. Gutted
interior, so not able to get much. Auto tranny. Really built like a
tank compared to the sheet metal on Gump.

The other is a 280sel (w110) that has rear quarter panel damage.
Monkeys got in and tore the dash pad off, busted the locks so driver
side door do not open and made off with the dash cluster and much that
was not nailed down. Engine compartment is not touched.

Brown leather seats and most of the wood looked great. I am trying to
figure out if I should upgrade Gump with the nice door trim wood, or
just offer that on eBay. Might give Gump some pizzazz. Really not
sure I want to cut it to make it fit.

There is quite a range of adjustment possible in the hinges and in

Re: [MBZ] 560SEL purchase

2007-01-21 Thread James Zavesky
Yeah our V12 gets 11 city and 15 highway. The girls have been letting me
drive lately. So today I went to Home Depot to walk around and strengthen my
legs and back. Sitting at the traffic light I pulled away at warp speed with
half throttle. Back was throbbing after that but the smile on my face was
worth it.

The pump has two bleeders, one to drain the oil and one to fill till
overflow (fill verification). Not only do you have to fill the pump, you
also have to change the oil in the pump by draining then filling until
some flows out of the second bleeder.

On my '72 220D, the vacuum pump never needed oiling. Replaced the
diaphragm once, but that was it.

Now the INJECTION pump is a different story. When doing an oil change, I
had to remove the red Oel cap on the top of the pump, loosen the bleeder
on the side next to the engine, and add oil until oil flowed out of the
bleeder, displacing diesel.

I have never seen one of those belt-driven vacuum pumps.
Ours are all cam-driven from the front of the injection

course it would need oiling.

That page is for the 115.01X car, which is a gasser.

Re: [MBZ] Mercedes Quality

2007-01-21 Thread Tom Hargrave
Quality is a lot more than esthetics. And if car buyers truly only cared
about fit finish the every auto maker in the world would produce cars
that were cosmically perfect ran about 3 years.

I agree that Mercedes interiors don't seem to be what they were but in no
way are they cheap interiors. The last one I sat in was pretty sharp.

Regarding pre-90's Mercedes quality. I'm sure you are aware of the 300SDL
head troubles the early 90's 350SDL rod benders? How about the long term
SL sub-frame cracking issues that Mercedes fixed under warranty, but only
after you cornered them with the issue? And the 380 engine with the single
row timing chain that had the tendency to fail before 100,000 miles if you
were lucky, only bent 2 valves? And the oil leak issues in the 280 engine?
And the oil leak issues in the late 80's 300 260 engine? And the climate
control blower motor issues in the early 300E's (no fuse)? And the
transmissions that shifted hard into first gear. I know that they were
supposed to do that but no one else's transmission did it it was a real
quality issue with Mercedes owners at the time. The list is much longer.

I'm not saying that any of these cars were junk, they had issues just like
all cars have issues. I do believe that today's Mercedes are far superior
then what was manufactured back then. And they too have issues, some we
won't know about for years.

Bluetec was supposed to mean that it uses adblue injection in the exhaust,
but from what I heard of the segment, that is not true in this year's
batch. (bork?) (adblue=aqueous urea)

That seems to be the way with them. I've seen the T/C gassers with a

close look.

BP uses frelling green hoods on every nozzle since it is their company
color or somesuch. I rarely go there especially since they seem to have
such slow pumps. (25GPM pumps are a joy to fill up with! I know the
larger nozzles can run 60GPM)

[MBZ] 115 Vac Pump Oiling

2007-01-21 Thread Eric Anderton

ahh,
Thanks Jim. That fact escaped my attention. One less item is now on my
to-do list.

Eric

job# 704 titled checking oil level in vacuum pump.

I have never seen one of those belt-driven vacuum pumps.
Ours are all cam-driven from the front of the injection
pump. If you did have a belt-drive vacuum pump, of
course it would need oiling.

That page is for the 115.01X car, which is a gasser.
Don't know why one of those would need a vacuum pump,
unless it was a booster like my Falcon has. (For the
windshield wipers.)

Picked up a gallon of Zerex G-05 at my local Car Quest today. Had to ask
for it, they only had Zerex Dex-Cool replacement on the shelf. Both
bottles have a nice chart on the back showing what coolant you should use
on your car.

Its not for my Mercedes though, I need to change the coolant in my Polaris
snowmobile and figured if G-05 was such great aluminium corrosion
resistance for a Mercedes then the Polaris would surely benefit.
$13.50 a gallon. I didn't think that was so bad in my little town of 7,000
mostly non-Mercedes drivers.

The '95 E300D NA Diesel was the latest model that I've noticed with a Diesel

Variable Length Intake Runners on there, but trunk space just wouldn't
allow for that. When the W210 E-Class Chassis was introduced in the 1996
model year, did this model E300D also have a Diesel badge?

All the 210 diesels had the badge, the 98's and 99's have turbodiesel on
them :)

If i went bio i'd slip another I in there tho (turbiodiesel) :P

[MBZ] Short tool review

2007-01-21 Thread John W. Reames III
Craftsman has some sockets for the removal of nuts with rounded heads... I
had the opportunity to use them on a bolt that once had an E-10 head on it
that since roudned off, worked like a champ! Got that torsion bar off and
back on easy as can be!

Frantz got new engine mounts (all around), and new torsion bar rubber
bits, as well as rear brake pads. Only ONE sensor on passenger right
outside of a W210!
