So I cannot get to the rear bolts. I've tried wd40 to lube it up, and the
seat just won't ramp up for the life of me.

The bottom of the seat is literally torn to shreds, think I'd be able to
get at that track assembly if I removed it?

I purchased the car from an estate sale and it was sitting outside for several

Does anyone have where the drains in the W211 are and how to clean them out?

Reseal the windshield

Hi All,

We had heavy rain a few days ago. I parked my 2004 E320 4matic
in my driveway (Hill slops downward). Went to get something out of
the glove box and noticed the front passenger carpet was soaked. I
pulled back the rug and spent a couple of hours soaking up water
from the carpet and well. I checked the sunroof drains and they
flowed fine.

I soaked the car with a heavy stream of water and couldn't see
any water leaks.

Any suggestions on the cause and how to dry up the car completely.

Thanks in advance.

Traditional agriculture has relied on cattle and horse manure,
supplemented by chicken litter for years. What might be noted is
that these are herbivores, with the exception of chicken, which
generally eat bugs or grain. Manure from carnivores is best NOT used
around food. if it has been thoroughly and completely composted at
temps high enough to kill everything/anything, it could be used. I
don't trust anyone's composting that much.

Manure is applied in the fall or winter, and was traditionally plowed
 under.

No cat crap in the garden for me please.

I am sure I have told the story here before but we had one of those 2

Wild kid drove grandma's car through the front wall and into the living
room of neighbor's house.
Too bad the concrete was not a bit higher, or the trees a bit closer

So I called again this morning, a woman said someone would call me
back. No call back.

I called a little while ago, got an answering service woman who said she
could only pass the message on to Trent for him to call me.

I am starting to think I am out $150 and this guy is running some kind
of scam, or is incompetent, or has no clue, is in over his head, is
incapacitated, or some combination of all of the above.

I called NAPA to get a couple of things, will be there tomorrow, then
will give AutohausAZ a try per Kleb's experience.

Re: [MBZ] Ready to replace driver seat, and the ramp track is seized

2013-06-10 Thread Scott Ritchey

Some years back, I had this problem trying to remove the passenger seat on a
'79 300TD. After repeated lube and gentle tapping (hammer and socket
extension) it moved a little. After that I got it to move more and more (by
push and pull) until I could access the bolts. After I got the seat out I
totally removed the rails and washed them good with Simple Green. All kinds
of brown crap came out. After a good greasing I reinstalled and everything
worked fine until I sold the car,

I've been using Deoxit on bolts with surprisingly good results since Deoxit

One thing I can tell you is that WD-40 is a lousy lubricant. Try a real

So I cannot get to the rear bolts. I've tried wd40 to lube it up, and the

The bottom of the seat is literally torn to shreds, think I'd be able to

You probably will not be happy with the shipping time from AZ to the East

I have had good luck with Rock Auto, and Advance Auto Parts. If you use a

Yep. I had found the first, but I guess I never read it to the end.
Down lower is a picture of the linkages. I think I can use that to
get close. Have to take off the bonnet to get to the left end of the
spring linkage.

I'll let you know what happens when I get time to work on it again.
It worked tolerably well ungoverned, but did bog down in the tall
corn. RPM is too low, but tolerable. I should buy a new bowl gasket
too. primer is not working now, and that is most likely the bowl
gasket seal.

If it was anything more than a handful of instrument cluster lamps I would be

Went over to CarQuest and ordered all new rear brake components for my 190D.

Re: [MBZ] My experience -- a datum point

2013-06-10 Thread Rich Thomas
No it is not a temper tantrum. It is a matter of sharing FACTS related
to someone many of us might find important in dealing with our cars, as
was Rusty. I think many of us were willing to support his efforts in
this business, expecting a similar level of service, or at least hoping
for such, based on initial comms in that regard.

I paid this guy for some basic parts. His person Kerri took the order
and took my money Friday a week ago. She was pleasant and had my info
there. Good enough.

I expected to receive the goods within a few days, she said she would
try to get the order in that Friday afternoon, barring that, Monday.
Good enough. No different from many other orders from Rusty over the
years, this guy is the new Rusty basically doing the same thing. No
particular reason to expect a different experience. He takes an order,
ships what he has or passes it on to Worldpac, whatever works.

On Friday morning I sent TF an email asking where the stuff was,
thinking a week was long enough to get stuff shipped out given my
previous experiences. He sent back a msg saying he would get back to me
when he got to the office later on. I heard nothing back on Friday.

I called 2X this morning asking what the story was. 2 different people
answered and said they would pass the msg along for him to call me
back. That was hours ago, no call. He has gone dark. Nice.

Others have bought stuff from this guy and have not received their
orders, and he is not responding to queries -- emails or phone calls.
He has gone dark on them owing them parts/money. Nice.

I did some research to see if I could find out the guy's story. I found
that info about the DUI. That suggests to me we might be dealing with
someone who has responsibility issues, in addition to my and others'
experiences with ordering parts, but you draw your own conclusions based
on that info and my/others' experiences, more FACTS. I found other info
too that is a bit concerning.

Now I have to try to figure out how to either get my stuff, or get my
$150 back, or some combination of the 2. Its not like I am going
destitute over the $150 but it just really pisses me off.

I am upset because I had expected to get this car sorted last week then
drive to my daughter on the past weekend to give her this car, then take
the car she has to my son who now needs a car. This problem has given
me a larger headache and caused some other issues due to lack of
carry-through by this guy. Not the least having my son and my wife on
my ass to get the car deal sorted within a hard time constraint and
other life issues. So it is causing me more headache and likely more
money to get a plane ticket sorted. I have basically lost 10 days on
this guy and his lack of responsiveness having taken my money. That
pisses me off too.

I am interested to know any other parts of the entire story if you, he,
or anyone else can share it with me. So far I have related FACTS as I
know them, but perhaps he has suffered some malady that prevents his
attention to business, or something. I am open to education in that
regard and will consider it, apologize, whatever.

I suggest that anyone else contemplating ordering stuff from this guy
might want to evaluate other alternatives given what I know to be
FACTUAL information about this guy, but, as always, YMMV and you are
welcome to spend your money however you want.

How deep is the snow likely to be?
If I were looking for a snow vehicle it would be a 4X4 truck with some
clearance. Our old 4Runner was pretty good and I have no complaints
about my F150. Both are the sort that cannot be driven on dry pavement
in 4 wheel drive but are pretty stable on slippery roads and will plough
through snow as they have some clearance. AWD cars are interesting but
don't have the clearance to permit them to go where the roads don't get
cleared pretty quickly.

I do like the cars I have. There is going to come a time for the E300 to
require massive infusions of dollars to bring it back to a reasonably safe

Cannot recall what is wrong with the one you have.
Have to suggest that, if the cost of repair is reasonable and the rest of the
one you have is good, then you are likely better off keeping it.
My truck is in that category. It is an 02 with 170K miles on it and is
developing a bit of rust on the driver's side rocker panel. Runs good, AC works
etc. Should consider moving on but cannot see anything I want more unless I buy
new and I rarely do. Last new one was in 1977. Too much $$.

So, I would be fearful of getting into something that has more issues than what
I already have.

Now, having said that, if your good wife has just come to a point in time where
she wants, or thinks she wants a different vehicle, then you are not going to
win this one. Even if she agrees to fix and keep, you will likely end up
changing vehicles for her in the near future.

So, having said that, I think my advice would be to buy newer and probably the
newest you think you can afford. Newer vehicles do tend to have some advantages
- usually safer - and hopefully a lower likelyhood of issues. For example, my
02 F150 was 5 years old when I got it and I have had it almost 7 years. I have
done very little work on it in that time. It has thus been very easy to own and
that contributes to my willingness to keep it for the foreseeable future.

My 2 cents for whatever that is worth.

How long do you work your compost for? I throw mine into a pile for a year,
then flip it into a different pile and let it rest a year (getting rid of the

plastic.

Autohaus Arizona www.autohausaz.com has been stellar over the years.
  Their
website gives you part numbers and is a snap to use. The owner/rep is
acessible most any time via their 800 number, and they ship promptly. If
you desperately need something in under a week you can pay their expedited
shipping cost and will still come out cheaper than the local dealer.

For dealer only parts, the Classic Center is usually the best route.

[MBZ] '84 190D lower radiator hose

I think I need the lower radiator hose for my '84 190D. The car loses coolant
occasionally and the temp gauge acts funny occasionally and I've recently seen
some coolant at that corner of the car. I think it all adds up since the
radiator is new, thermostat is new. Upper hose is easy to get, coming from my
local CarQuest tomorrow.
Lower hose is stocked by both Trent and Dr. Fatty but both list as URO. This is
a complicated 3 piece hose thingus and what I've heard of URO quality (I
believe the hose Wilton is waiting on is simmilar) I don't want it.

Pelican parts doesn't have a listing. AutohausAZ lists a Lemfoerder but its on
backorder.

I'd like to think Alaskans are smart enough to know if you're plowing snow down
the road you shouldn't have come out.
We had a blizzard back in February and they closed the roads which is basically
unheard of. The government took some flack but compared to the hundreds of
people stranded in their cars in NY it was a good choice.
People in NY said I had to go to work to which I replied It was an early
evening storm, you should have STAYED at work...
People around here with 4wd would be better off in a 2wd with snow tires. If
its so bad you really have to have 4wd you probably shouldn't be out.

I remember in 2008 we had an ice storm and my in-laws complained You can't go
anywhere there's utility crews blocking up the roads. I tried to be patient
when I explained that getting in the way of the utility crews would only make
it take longer for the power to come on.

No it is not a temper tantrum. It is a matter of sharing FACTS related to
someone many of us might find important in dealing with our cars, as was
Rusty. I think many of us were willing to support his efforts in this
business, expecting a similar level of service, or at least hoping for
such, based on initial comms in that regard.

I paid this guy for some basic parts. His person Kerri took the order and
took my money Friday a week ago. She was pleasant and had my info there.
Good enough.

I expected to receive the goods within a few days, she said she would try
to get the order in that Friday afternoon, barring that, Monday. Good
enough. No different from many other orders from Rusty over the years,
this guy is the new Rusty basically doing the same thing. No particular
reason to expect a different experience. He takes an order, ships what he
has or passes it on to Worldpac, whatever works.

On Friday morning I sent TF an email asking where the stuff was, thinking
a week was long enough to get stuff shipped out given my previous
experiences. He sent back a msg saying he would get back to me when he
got to the office later on. I heard nothing back on Friday.

I called 2X this morning asking what the story was. 2 different people
answered and said they would pass the msg along for him to call me back.
That was hours ago, no call. He has gone dark. Nice.

Others have bought stuff from this guy and have not received their orders,
and he is not responding to queries -- emails or phone calls. He has gone
dark on them owing them parts/money.

Now I have to try to figure out how to either get my stuff, or get my $150
back, or some combination of the 2. Its not like I am going destitute
over the $150 but it just really pisses me off.

I am upset because I had expected to get this car sorted last week then
drive to my daughter on the past weekend to give her this car, then take
the car she has to my son who now needs a car. This problem has given me
a larger headache and caused some other issues due to lack of
carry-through by this guy. Not the least having my son and my wife on my
ass to get the car deal sorted within a hard time constraint and other
life issues. So it is causing me more headache and likely more money to
get a plane ticket sorted. I have basically lost 10 days on this guy and
his lack of responsiveness having taken my money. That pisses me off too.

I am interested to know any other parts of the entire story if you, he, or
anyone else can share it with me. So far I have related FACTS as I know
them, but perhaps he has suffered some malady that prevents his attention
to business, or something. I am open to education in that regard and will
consider it, apologize, whatever.

I suggest that anyone else contemplating ordering stuff from this guy
might want to evaluate other alternatives given what I know to be FACTUAL
information about this guy, but, as always, YMMV and you are welcome to
spend your money however you want.

In my experience (1) 4WD lets you to get stuck in places where other people
would never go and (2) a locking differential in 2WD is often better than
4WD with open differentials.

I was not really talking about blizzards.
My back lane is often drifted and has ruts from other vehicles going
out. I don't have trouble after I get a few blocks onto more travelled
roads but I have to say that I worry much less about getting from my
parking spot to the major streets with 4 wheel drive.
Turn the switch and just chug along until it is not needed anymore. I
swear I will not be without 4 wheel drive again so long as I live in
snow country and clearance is your friend when the snow is even ankle deep.

We had a blizzard back in February and they closed the roads which is basically
unheard of. The government took some flack but compared to the hundreds of
people stranded in their cars in NY it was a good choice.
People in NY said I had to go to work to which I replied It was an early evening
storm, you should have STAYED at work...
People around here with 4wd would be better off in a 2wd with snow tires. If
its so bad you really have to have 4wd you probably shouldn't be out.

I remember in 2008 we had an ice storm and my in-laws complained You can't go
anywhere there's utility crews blocking up the roads. I tried to be patient when I
explained that getting in the way of the utility crews would only make it take longer for
the power to come on.

How deep is the snow likely to be?
If I were looking for a snow vehicle it would be a 4X4 truck with
some clearance. Our old 4Runner was pretty good and I have no
complaints about my F150. Both are the sort that cannot be driven on
dry pavement in 4 wheel drive but are pretty stable on slippery
roads and will plough through snow as they have some clearance. AWD
cars are interesting but don't have the clearance to permit them to
go where the roads don't get cleared pretty quickly.

Randy

As WIlton would say: Zactly! I could go anywhere in a 200D or a
240D until the snow got so deep the car floated on the floor pans.
Don't need 4WD in most cases. What you need to get through snow is
clearance, Clarence.

When I put 7.50 16 michelin MS tars on my broco, I gained a couple
of inches of ground clearance. Maybe 3-4 total gain over the
factory small 15 tars. In between I had N78-15 ambulance tars on it
to get more clearance.

A well balanced 2wd car with 2 sand sacks and good tires will go
anywhere it has clearance. For maximum deep snow travel, you want a
2ton truck or larger with 22.5 tires on, and lots of weight to give
the tires traction. Or a front assist tractor (working cab and
heater are nice...)

I drove the ol 65 shovey to GR MI and back in a blizzard in '80 or
so. It did fine. visibility was bad at times, but the car did ok.
something like 1200 miles round trip. Schnee through IL, IN and MI.

A loaded truck will go through deep schnee when no car can. (pickups
are not really trucks unless they are grossed out.)

Randy went back to the stealership some years back, probably in the late

He has or had a large supply of NOS parts, which he started liquidating on eBay
some years back out of a warehouse in Goleta, where he is still located today
as far as I know.

I touch base with him from time to time. My needs are minimal enough that it
doesn't make a lot of logistical or financial sense to buy from a supplier in
California.

He's a good guy, very knowledgeable, and knows his customers well. He is
pretty active on the Hitler list, which I find curious, but I have never seen
any reference to his business or selling parts that I know of. It's possible
that some of the list residents there patronize him. I do not know.

Randy went back to the stealership some years back, probably in the late
90s/early 2000s if I recall correctly. He had some major health issues and
left at some point in the future after that.

I do not know.

radiator is new, thermostat is new. Upper hose is easy to get, coming from my

Lower hose is stocked by both Trent and Dr. Fatty but both list as URO. This
is a complicated 3 piece hose thingus and what I've heard of URO quality (I
believe the hose Wilton is waiting on is simmilar) I don't want it.

Pelican parts doesn't have a listing. AutohausAZ lists a Lemfoerder but its
 on backorder.
My local dealer is an hour away.

 Anywhere else to try?
