The SAE "logo" should say if it's Diesel (Cx) rated. [MBZ] W210 - Unlocking steering column without key/fob in ignition
1999 E320. My friend's only key fob broke. The copper coil separated from the circuit board inside the case. He can open the car doors with the fob, but it doesn't signal the ignition switch to unlock the steering wheel or start the car. The wheels and parking gear remain locked. To obtain a new key the Mercedes dealer requires him to tow the car to the dealership and present his license and title to prove that he is the owner. They will keep the car while the key is being manufactured in CA. There is supposedly no way around this rule. Unfortunately the entrance to his condo garage is too low for the tow tow truck to fit under the garage door. He and the tow truck driver could not push the car out his parking spot because the front wheels are locked (the car must turn to leave the parking space). So here is the issue: the front wheels are locked and he can't turn them because there is no signal from the fob that unlocks the steering column. Is there any way the steering wheel can be unlocked without the key in the ignition? The 210 Forum generated the following suggestions: *"It is much easier to get the key repaired. You can get a replacement coil from eBay. I repaired several in the past. I am assuming you have a gen 2 key. The one with panic button near the tip."* * "There is no way that you can unlock the steering wheel unless you cut the mechanism up. [MBZ] Sprinter breaks itself
Folks, So the 2004 Dodge Benz Sprinter space hauler has been sitting for about two months With the windshield removed while I address the unsealed windshield and the associated Pennsylvania rust. Battery was dead so I charged it. I started it just now and I heard a screech and saw some smoking under the hood ... I figured some idler was noisy WRONG. The serpentine belt was tossed off. On checking I see the alternator is frozen solid. Can’t even move it with a pipe wrench on the sort of hub back of the grooved pulley. Ideas? Odd that the bearings would seize on sitting in the delicious salt air for two months Ideas! Re: [MBZ] 15 vs 8 hole wheels on w124
I have some experience with that kind of project... The outtake was I discovered there are a number of different length wheel bolts for Mercedes / wheels. The good news is: I found them in good supply on Ebay, rather cheap. Tip: Tak e the stock wheel and with it off the car, insert a lug bolt, then, from the back side of the wheel, take a good measurement of the extending grip length of the protruding threads. That measurement is how much thread length the car needs to safely mount a wheel. Now, take the "new wheel" and do the same measurement... with the stud you now have. Do a little math to determine how much longer or shorter wheel stud you need to safely mount the "new" wheel, and go looking on ebay, or amazon, or wherever you find the length you need. Remember, Mercedes uses a Ball shape to the contact between wheel and stud.. NOT a cone shape.. ONLY use the ball shape studs. Get the correct wheel studs for the wheels you want to use and "Bobs yer Unkle" ... Happy motoring. As I recall, a set of studs cost me about $12 per wheel, with express shipping. Re: [MBZ] 15 vs 8 hole wheels on w124
Bend a length of stiff wire with a short "L" on the end. With the wheel mounted, remove one bolt, insert the "L" end of the wire, and feel where it goes through the drum. Mark the outside to measure the length. Compare that to the bolt - I'd want the bolts to be a little (1mm ?) shorter than the total length of the hole. Yes - there were different length bolts for different wheels, and the aftermarket wheels used yet another bolt length. Re: [MBZ] Oil for OM602
I was going to joke about using 5w40 where it gets real cold but you've had real cold this year. How did it work out? I did use M1 15w50 a lot back when I had a 240D, it seemed to do okay but when temps got around 0F the 5w40 really helped. I've just started putting Rotella T6 into the ASV as make up oil, I had used the last of my Turbo Diesel truck previously and I guess I've gotten to the point that the synthetic is making a difference, I think it starts noticibly better in the cold now. I need to change the oil on that this year, it was last changed in 2015 but I bet this oil doesn't have 100 hours on it. I'm planning on T6 unless I can find a great deal on something else. It takes 3 gallons so price is a factor. -Curt On Friday, February 26, 2021, 9:59:35 AM EST, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: The edge can be used but it’s more of a gas oil used for 229.5 spec, later cars. Re: [MBZ] Going to ABQ
That's good thinking, the folks I've worked with were all pretty nice. It also worked really well to present them with the trip I wanted. I'd send emails like "I need to go to LA on the 23rd. I see that American has a flight out of Hartford at 6am and a return on the 28th leaving LAX at 7am." then they'd just book the flights I'd already picked out. If I had a hotel I liked they'd book that or sometimes I would say "Can you find me a nice independent hotel in the area" which is how we found the Hotel Triton in San Francisco (between the Mission and Chinatown, great hotel). -Curt On Thursday, February 25, 2021, 9:41:38 PM EST, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes wrote: Good plan.
