I've been looking at putting together a diskless frontend system using small form factor motherboard but have not spent enough time to pick out the right mother board yet. the Xbox can not handle raw HD MPEG-TS streams. But for standard definition TV I've found it to be perfect. It is also able to handle what are termed hr.hdtv XviD encodes. Which is a 1/2 res full AC3 audio encode of HDTV shows. They're popular in the scene and a great way to archive HDTV shows in a small file size with near equal quality. as for other options, there is a device called Roku, which can handle HDTV MPEG2 streams and standard def. TV. The MythTV build for it is still in inafancy though, but it promises to be a great, cheap frontend ($300). Been sorting through the options available using one of the EPIA boards. Trying to find one that has s-video output and mpeg2 decoding that can handle shows recorded using PVR cards. I'm also going to add that there are some recent posts concerning LVM's and RAID that you'll want to search gossamer for. You look to be building a rather large file server into your backend, and at this point these are your best bets. I'm trying to see if the dev's will entertain the idea of having more than one recordings directory that would allow for all this to be much easier. My main backend system had four 300GB drives with one LVM group setup as a 1TB file system which I use for recordings. At this point I did not bother with raid. If a drive fails I lose the recordings. Thanks for the help. It's fixed now, and here's what I think happened - 1. After the upgrade, the ethernet connection didn't work. 2. I set up a new connection, BUT I accidentally set up the firewire network connection (and I used the old address that my machine used to have) 3. When I discovered my mistake, I setup the ethernet card, but because the old address was in use, I used the next available address. 4. Mythbackend didn't like this. 5. I used Webmin to see if mysql was running (it was) 6. I reset the mythtv user password in mysql, to mythtv, or so I thought, but must have got it wrong. 7. So, I reset the machine's ip to the original address (and told firewire it would have to depend on dhcp :-)) 7. I tried to log into mysql at a console prompt as mythtv, and got the access denied error 8. Then I logged into mysql as root, and did a 'GRANT ALL ON mythconverg.* TO [EMAIL PROTECTED] IDENTIFIED BY *mythtv*; ' 9. Now it all works!!! So, don't know if the ip change somehow upset the backend (even though I had it configured to localhost or 127.0.0.1), but the rest was my fault. Problem is I have no idea how to copy on a new kernel and have that load as the default kernel. At that point I wouldn't know what to be looking for in dmesg and lspci to make a new kernel, and once I did find out what I needed I wouldn't know how to get it and make a new kernel. I don't suppose anyone knows of a step-by-step manual on how to do exactly this? ... anyone? You need to copy the kernel itself and the modules. The kernel can be found in /boot and normally starts with vmlinuz. The modules can be found in directory /lib/modules/kernel name. kernel name is the output you get if you run uname -r . And this can probably also found in the name of the kernel. To be able to boot the kernel, you have to update the bootloader (lilo or grub). If you use debian, you can use update-grub to update the grub config file (it scans /boot for kernels). It's possible you can run it on other distributions too. I don't know. What I do, I always leave the kernel in place that is installed by the distribution and add my own custom kernel. So I can choose at boot time the kernel I want to boot, and of course, I make sure my kernel is listed first. [mythtv-users] transcoding shows manually
Hello, I've been reading about transcoding to cut out commercials or transcoding to mpeg4 lately, but I'm not sure how it works from the frontend. I see the ability to start a transcode job when I press the right arrow key while looking at a recording in the Watch Recordings menu, but how do I control what exactly that transcode job DOES? For example, for some shows I would like to just cut out the commercials, but leave the show as mpeg2. For others, I'd like the cut the commercials and transcode the mpeg4. I don't want to do any of this automatically right after the show is recorded because (1) commercial detection isn't perfect and (2) I burn a lot of shows to DVD so it's useful to have them come in as mpeg2. How do I do that? Do I have to use command line tools? Or are there GUI options? No, I deliberately meant to say retail -- it was sold in a printed box labelled WinTV PVR-150 Media Center Kit. It's now available at most Best Buy stores for $119. Carl Fongheiser I think for the purposes of the initial poster they are referring to the PVR150 MCE (model 1042) which is pretty much an OEM white box PVR150 with FM radio, RCA audio jacks, no IR chips/jack, and no included remote/blaster. The PVR150 retail edition (model 1045) comes with a remote/Ir blaster, has a 1/8 stereo minijack for audio input (*sigh*), and a pretty box/warranty. There is, as Carl points out a new model 1062 retail kit which is a PVR150MCE card with a MCE compatible/certified USB IR remote/blaster/etc... designed for MCE 2005. To the original poster... If you just need the card itself and have no need for the remote control/blaster or have designs on other remote/etc... the pvr150MCE is pretty much driver compatible with the retail edition and you can save yourself a few bucks. e. -- http://www.byopvr.com ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] FC4 MythTV - Computer powering down... sort of! - FRUSTRATION!!
On Wed, 26 Oct 2005 14:17:51 +0200, Stef Coene wrote: IS EXACTLY what I would like to do. Problem is I have no idea how to copy on a new kernel and have that load as the default kernel. At that point I wouldn't know what to be looking for in dmesg and lspci to make a new kernel, and once I did find out what I needed I wouldn't know how to get it and make a new kernel. I don't suppose anyone knows of a step-by-step manual on how to do exactly this? ... anyone? Running FC4 you can get a new kernel using yum install kernel* After the process is finished you will see the new files in /boot and yum will update your grub menu to boot from the new kernel., BUT the new kernel will not be configured for your hardware. For that you need to configure and compile the kernel. You will need the kernel source (available as a plain vanilla version from kernel.org) and the development stuff (compiler etc.) The Linux documentation project has removed the kernel howto and the replacement supposedly at http://www.digitalhermit.com/~kwan/kernel.html. never seems to load. There is a good description of the process at http://www.epialinux.org. Follow the kernel link bottom left of the first paragraph on the head page. That description is specific for a via epia board which has the advantage of discussing exactly how you configure a kernel and deal with specific driver issues. For example, if you are doing a mythtv box, you may not need firewire or bluetooth or sata or scsi depending on your hardware, but you should select *every* module in the device driver dvb section even if you do not have the listed hardware. What I do, I always leave the kernel in place that is installed by the distribution and add my own custom kernel. So I can choose at boot time the kernel I want to boot, and of course, I make sure my kernel is listed first. As noted, if you do a kernel upgrade using yum, it will automatically upgrade a grub menu.lst. It is not particularly difficult to do, although slightly time-consuming. (For example, the actual compile is one of those things you should start just before going to lunch! If you are going to do this, I suggest you should first do a 'ls -al /boot /tmp/boot1.txt' and save a copy of /boot/grub/menu.lst, so you have the starting state. Then do a yum upgrade to the newest available kernel. When that is done make a boot2.txt. These two will show you exactly what has changed as the new one was installed. THEN get the new source, put it into a new folder and configure/make/install from that. (So you end up with three branches (miniumum) in /usr/src/kernels: the original 2.6.11 of your install, the upgraded 2.6.12-2 (or whatever the latest rpm at freshrpms or atrpms serves up to yum) and the source version... presently 2.6.13.4 As noted, yum will amend a grub menu.lst, but you will have to do it with vi (or whatever) for your source build version. I'm not saying it couldn't work (I know the frontend will; not sure about the backend), but as a newbie, and unless you're a FreeBSD guru, you'd probably be better served by picking a platform with a larger installed base, so if you have any problems someone on the -users list is more likely to be able to help you. The most popular platforms for MythTV seem to be Fedora Core (various versions, thanks to Jarod Wilson's excellent guide) and Debian (what many of the main devs use, IIRC), or KnoppMyth (which is a Debian/Knoppix-based LiveCD that can install a working Myth system to your hard drive in minutes). Re: [mythtv-users] Firewire source and channel changer
Brian, I see this exact same issue - the choppy video which you describe as a stopping and starting effect - on my firewire video as well. Everything else with my Firewire setup works well, except this. The thing is, I see it on standard def. TV as well as HD - although not all the time and not on every channel. It's very random. My CPU usage looks no different viewing Firewire-recorded video than it does when I'm viewing video recorded from my PVR-250. (which works flawlessly, not choppy at all) Turning off the use video as timebase setting on the frontend seems to help a bit, but not 100%. Just for reference, my Firewire box (DCT6200) is hooked up to a Dell P3 1Ghz, which is conifgured as a slave-backend streaming the video to my master backend/frontend box which is in my living room. While I can't prove it, I don't think my network is the issue here - nor is the harddrive. I've sorta been assuming that maybe it's a slow PCI bus/motherboard issue on the Dell box, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I realize you're having other issues with FireWire but I just thought I'd see if you were seeing this choppy video stuff on non-HD content as well. With preliminary testing (when the firewire is working), I get sort of a continual stop and start when playing back HD content as if *something* can't keep up. It doesn't look to me like my CPU is being killed - I see it at around a load of 2-3 (which is a little higher than regular content), but didn't seem terrible. And watching hard drive activity (which is set to use DMA) also doesn't seem bad at all...so I'm not sure if it's a bus or an IRQ issue or what. I'll be happy to just get the firewire straightened out first and then look into this issue. Thanks! Re: [mythtv-users] new recordings missing database fields after R5A22 upgrade
Kevin Kuphal wrote: Sounds like a DB update was missed. In this case, won't it mean that future updates are guaranteed to fail? Since this approach does not update the DBSchemaVer in the database (settings table), next time the backend gets started, it will try to update from the DBSchemaVer it thinks it's using (which is probably the prior version), and will fail because the update contains DDL. If the update contained only DML, it wouldn't make any difference (assuming the DML is idempotent), but DDL changes are never idempotent. Specifically, since the basename column was there, but wasn't properly filled, the DBSchemaVer is probably 1094, so next time mythbackend is started, it will try to update to 1095, and will fail on the ADD COLUMN because the basename column exists (ERROR 1060: Duplicate column name 'basename'), so it will bail out and stop trying to update (i.e. never going to 1099--not even making it to 1096). It seems like the user should shut down mythbackend, then submit: UPDATE settings SET data = '1095' WHERE value = 'DBSchemaVer'; then restart the backend and verify--using the logs--that any requested schema version upgrades succeeded (i.e. Database Schema upgrade complete, unlocking.) or at least that it doesn't say, Current Schema Version: , followed by Newest Schema Version : , (meaning we have the current schema version for the version of Myth in use, so no upgrade was required). (The code in Myth actually deletes the DBSchemaVer setting and then inserts a new one, so if there's some reason that's required, it would be more correct than the UPDATE above.) I already have the basename field, it just doesn't get filled in for new recording. so I just ran the second statement, and it seems to be working now. My progstart and progend fields also weren't working but using the statement you provided as a base I got them to work: UPDATE recorded SET progstart = CONCAT(DATE_FORMAT(starttime, '%Y%m%d%H%i00')); and UPDATE recorded SET progend = CONCAT(DATE_FORMAT(endtime, '%Y%m%d%H%i00')); And they seem to be working again too with a test recording, that now fills the fields correctly. OK, following on to my previous post--which hinted at the fact that future updates will fail--you're now at schema version 1096--which also contains non-idempotent DDL--so you would need to run: UPDATE settings SET data = '1096' WHERE value = 'DBSchemaVer'; Also, this seems to confirm my suspicions that all future updates are guaranteed to fail if you mess with your database schema incorrectly... And, the bad thing is that I've seen many suggestions like this that totally ignored DBSchemaVer. Therefore, can you post the error messages that exist in your mythbackend log file (if you aren't currently logging, just start up mythbackend before updating DBSchemaVer so you can get them). If you do so, others who see them in their logs will have a reference in the archives. MythTV is a PVR that records programs based on guide listings. Therefore, the R key simply requests recording of the current program. If you don't have any guide data, there is no current program, so it doesn't do anything. SVN has something of an instant timer record feature where pressing R when there is no program info will start recording for 60 minutes and then you can adjust the end time as desired. However, you're better off doing it correctly--using a Manual Recording rule. So, why not just: dd if=/dev/video0 of=~/BabysFirstBirthday.mpg bs=64k for the VCR. Myth really isn't providing any benefit here--may actually be making things much harder. [mythtv-users] MyIRBlaster - Myth Issues Only??
Hello, I've recently switch TV providers (because the company I work for is offering TV services now) and we have Amino AmiNet110's for set top boxes. I'm using a MyBlaster, the serial one from my tv store (mytvsore dot com). I use the MyBlaster.pl that you can download for use with the MyBlaster and I've found that is I run the MyBlaster.pl from the command prompt it changes the channel great, but when I am in Myth and it tries to change the channel using the same script it fails the majority of the time. There's typically three things could happen when it fails, one is it could do nothing. It's rare but it's happened a couple of times), another is that it misses a digit (usually at the beginning or middle of the channel number), and the third is that it may repeat a number (for instance 8 turns into 88). I'm not sure why this would happen in just Myth. I've used TVtime and XawTV to test the channel changing from the command line, and that works flawlessly, changing the channel while Myth is running and watching live TV also works flawlessly. It only fails when Myth itself tries to change the channel with the MyBlaster.pl script. I've played around with the timing in the MyBlaster.pl script and have re trained the MyBlaster with the IR codes over a dozen times, nothing seems to change how it acts tho, it works from the command line great but acts really weird when Myth goes to change the channel. The other thing I have done is made my own channelchange.pl and had it call the MyBlaster script to send the raw IR code to the MyBlaster script, that hasn't helped either though. Has anyone seen this? Or have any other ideas on a fix? Any help would be great. Thank You, Scott ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I'm having a similiar issue with a USB connected blaster..so I'm pretty sure its not related to the serial line speed or configuration. What I've noticed is it only pops up if the same blaster is used to receive the command as send the command. Symptoms: 1) recording is 100% reliable (thank you lord) 2) changing channels is 25% reliable 3) Using previous channel to flip back and forth is reliable. Re: [mythtv-users] MyIRBlaster - Myth Issues Only??
I had a lot of trouble changing channels reliably since I moved to dish network 301 receivers from a 5xx series. Someone suggested that the gap value in the file may have to be changed and that it was cpu/serial port dependent. I kept changing it and figured it was a lost cause at one point, and was about to order a MyBlaster, but then I decided to change it some more and eventually ended up with something that seems ok. I started with a gap of 175000 and ended with 40 in /etc/ledxmitd.conf. I tossed together this script to zap and restore things to try different gap values. I'm sure someone could clean it up if they cared to do so... #!/bin/bash modprobe -r ledxmit_serial modprobe -r ledxmit_dev PID=$(ps -A | grep ledxm | egrep -o [0-9]{3,5}) echo Found PID=[$PID] if [[ $PID != ]] then echo Killing existing instance of ledxmit... kill -s 9 $PID fi /bin/echo Starting ledxmit stuff... setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none update-modules modprobe ledxmit_serial nice -n -20 /usr/local/lirc-ledxmit/sbin/ledxmit-ledxmitd For reference that is an AMD XP 2000+ (Technically it is actually an AMD MP 1900+ running as a 2000+.) with an nforce 2 motherboard. It seems that the normal way of entering remote codes from an unknown remote will determine the value of the gap, but, unfortunately, dish network receivers run at 56kHz(?) and my IR receiver doesn't pick up them, so I was stuck working from a premade file and guessing. -Robert On Wed, 2005-10-26 at 13:19 -0400, George Nassas wrote: On 26-Oct-05, at 1:08 PM, Scott S. wrote: Has anyone seen this? (OK, maybe I'm being too optimistic assuming people will read /both/ their logs /and/ the archives. ;) Mike ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users You've totally lost me for the most part. (Like I said I know very little of mysql). I'll check my backend log on a restart.. and post anything related to DBSchemaVer. How was my DB supposed to be updated in the first place? I'm not home now, but will read this thread a few more times and see if I can put it together, and post some relevent sections of my backend log. If I didn't already have so many recordings that I haven't watched, and a hand made qam channel lineup I'd consider wiping it clean... Also I have the mysql db dump from when I backed it ub before the knoppmyth upgrade. Perhaps I can delete the newer recordings, to get them off the drive, and then re-instate the backup and do what ever update I was supposed to do in the beginning. Well I'll check the logs first and post back. Do you mean, When playing back recordings, I only see a blank screen? Or, perhaps, My system records only black with no audio, and I've verified this by playing a recording on another computer with another media player? Or, something different? Mike ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users Hello Mike, Thanks for getting back to me. I fully know how mythtv works, backend/frontend, etc.. In my frustation, shorter emails go out, ya know? Anyway, when your watching tv and you select m, it takes you to the schedule and show the current channel in the upper right corner (if that's your option). Then when you hit enter and decide to record that running show, it will change to recording (and watching) the selection you just made because when your recording you can't watch another channel, etc. It's at that point that my screen goes black, no sound no anything. I can hear the drive crunching, look in the directory that the recording is going into, and watch it grow, just it is only recording a black screen, no video, no audio. I have started mythfrontend with -v all option and looking at that see that it is bitching about audio rates that it wants and cant have and that it is dropping frames, so I suspect that it's a sound issue. I had it configured with the onboard via sound card, then installed a sound blaster live, still same results. Sound works fine for watching tv and all other sound functions. Also, if I run cat /dev/video0 /tmp/someshow.mpg, it records beautifully with sound, etc. I must have some setting wrong in my myth record options but this is a pvr-350 and initially thought I had something wrong with the ivtv modules. I have AMD 3000+, FC4, 512MB RAM, 2.6.13-1352 kernel with all options installed as per wilsonet.com/mythtv. Not real familiar with ivtv, I thought that maybe it was trying to record using a different device node, whatever. At this point I am really frustrated, any thoughts? Solved. I inserted a sleep command in the changechannel script BEFORE I send the command. sleep .5 Its possibly a thread contention issue of some sort? Hi, I've been reading a number of things about this latest mysql update and wanted to take it slow. On one of my Gentoo frontend boxes I gave it a go this morning. Bad results so far. There's lots of new stuff added though. So, has anyone else run into something like this yet? If this is a Gentoo specific thing then I'll take the question over there but I'm sure there are great MySQL folks here so I thought I'd ask. [mythtv-users] How to get rid of User Job?
I have never defined or set any User Jobs. However, it seems like everytime my slave backend records a show, User Job #3 gets assigned to some other recording, even if it wasn't recorded on the slave backend. How do I tell MythTV not to run this phantom 'User Job #3' (in mythfrontend or in the mythconverg database)? Example: 2005-10-25 19:58:57.976 Started recording Close to Home on channel: 1009 on cardid: 1, sourceid 1 2005-10-25 19:58:58.124 Started recording The Biggest Loser on channel: 1016 on cardid: 2, sourceid 1 2005-10-25 20:58:57.745 Started recording Supernatural on channel: 1013 on cardid: 3, sourceid 1 2005-10-25 21:00:14.954 Started recording The Amazing Race: Family Edition on channel: 1009 on cardid: 1, sourceid 1 cardid 1 and 2 are on my master backend. cardid 3 is the only tuner on my slave backend. But somehow, The Amazing Race: Family Edition is Queued for User Job #3, and it never completes. All other shows recorded both before and after are transcoded and commercial flagged properly. In fact, even The Amazing Race: Family Edition is commercial flagged. It's just that the Job Queue shows it being Queued for User Job #3 (and no other jobs are currently running or queued). I'd say it's safe to say that something earlier had corrupted the .nuv and the transcoder just couldn't deal with it. If you have any logs going back to when that clip was recorded, that might give you some insight into what caused the corruption. Hm, really nothing special here. I realize that's an obvious and incredibly lame response, but I thought I'd at least give you a shout back so you knew you weren't alone ;-) I appreciate that, really :-) I was starting to get nervous that it would be a heat problem or somesuch. Now, after deleting that one specific recording, things are normal again. The box recorded 4 clips since yesterday and transcoded them successfully. Besides, I pondered the machine with some CPU intensive jobs just to verify that heat would not be a problem. I hope that this was a unique incident .. [mythtv-users] Satellite, RF or IR
Hey guys, great forum, very helpful so far. I have Dish Network with 1 box for 2 TVs. One signal is controlled by an IR remote, the other with an RF remote. I'm trying to decide on the best setup and which signal to put the myth box on. My concerns are if I put it on the IR signal, the signal in the living room, that someone (the kids) may come in and change the channel while Myth is recording, without knowing it's recording. Controlling this signal with Myth shouldn't be hard since I have the IR blaster that comes with the hauppauge card; why did they make that cord so short?!?! If I connect it to the RF line, I'm not worried about getting the channel changed, since that line goes into a bedroom that is rarely used, but then Myth can't change the Satellite channel since it can't communicate on the RF signal. So I'm sure I'm not alone in this boat, so what have other people tried? Also is it possible to build a device that would allow the computer to communicate with the dish box over RF, something like an RF blaster...grin. Do you guys with digital cable and cable boxes have this same problem? I suppose I could get another satellite tuner just for the computer and let the IR blaster do the rest. Hello, If you have access to a prog like the MySQL query browser you can edit the channels manually (there is a shell based SQL query prog as well but I prefer using the GUI for what I am doing). If you do want to edit the channel numbers manually, the table of interest is in the mythconverg database and is called channels. The MySQL query browser can be obtained from: http://www.mysql.com/products/tools/query-browser/ (info) http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/query-browser/1.1.html (download) The procedure is: 1) Run the query browser 2) Connect to your MySQL server using the appropriate username and password. 3) On the right there will be a list of databases. Double click on mythconverg 4) In the list of tables for the database, double click on the channels table. 5) At the top of the window, there will be a Execute button. Click on it. The results for the table should now be displayed. 6) At the bottom of the window, there is a start editing button. Click on that. 7) Double click on the channel number that you which to change (channum field) and enter the new value. Do this for all of the channels that you wish to change. 8) When you have finished, click on the Apply changes button. 9) Restart the back end. 10) Try it out with the new channel numbers. Be careful when you are editing the DB manually. Make sure that you do not change the wrong thing. If you are really unsure, make a back-up of the DB as described in the mythtv user docs. But, 1094 != 1099, and upgrade succeeds because no SQL is executed and doUpgradeTVDatabaseSchema( ) returns true. I never would have thought of multiple different versions of mythbackend... So, basically, the mythbackend he's running--and that's creating the logs--is SVN rev 7259 or less (because there's no Current Schema Version) and not 7429 or above (which expects DBSchemaVer 1099). So, at some time he ran a newer version of mythbackend (rev 7429 or above) that upgraded his schema and is now running an older version. This would also explain why his basename and progstart/progend columns are not being set--because they didn't exist in that old version. And, by running the SQL--to update basename, progstart, and progend for all the existing recordings--it made it look as if it fixed the problem, when, in fact, it just fixed the existing recordings, and all new recordings will continue to have problems because they won't have values for these columns because the old version of mythbackend won't set them. I'm so glad you chimed in. I don't think I ever would have gotten there on my own and it's been driving me crazy all afternoon. Re: [mythtv-users] new recordings missing database fields after R5A22 upgrade

I may start my upgrade over again, I'll just loose some of my newer recordings which aren't too many in number. According to the changelog ( http://www.mysettopbox.tv/CHANGELOG.txt ), R5A22 is using MythTV 0.18.2svn, which is probably the current SVN version of 0.18-fixes? http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/browser/branches/release-0-18-fixes You'll have to get more info from some KnoppMyth experts, though. If it is 0.18-fixes, it's expecting DBSchemaVer 1083 and you have 1099. Between the two have been a lot of changes, including a bunch of DDL--dropped tables, added tables, and added columns. Therefore, you're probably better off starting over from your pre-upgrade backup or just upgrading to current SVN... Most things might work OK with the older version, but I wouldn't risk it. If you start over, you can import the new recordings with myth.rebuilddatabase.pl. Mike ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] Re: MyIRBlaster - Myth Issues Only??
Hello, Thanks for your all your responses. I am running the script from the command line as my mythtv user. I tried putting in the clear key twice before sending the channel change and it still works from the command line just fine but going through Myth it seems to have the same problems. Do you put the clear key before or after emitting the digits? I would say mine works through Myth more around 25% of the time as well, are there any other tricks out there to try? [mythtv-users] An LVM'd drive died! What do I do...
... fortunately this has not happened (yet!) but I am preparing for the worst. Jarod's MythTV guide recommends LVM as an option to create nice and big MythTV partitions. I followed the guide and have recently added another 250G to my original drive with Mytbtv-users help. A hard drive failure on my Windows computer got me thinking. If one of the drives in the LVM group dies, what happens? Does the whole partition go down? Do you only lose files that were stores on the LVM drive? Better yet, if a drive dies, how do you replace it? DO you have to Shrink the LVM and do stuff with it, or just pop in a new drive and it automatically works? LVM seems like a great idea, but now that I have set it up, I am worried that 1 drive failig will result in the loss of 2 drives of data. Any input would be appreciated! david ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Mythburn output files
Me again :-)) Many thanks to everyones help with projectx - I'm getting a lot further now. The current problem is that despite my setting the output directory and temp directory in the .conf file, someone (not sure which app) is trying to write to the directory containing the nuv files. This is a demux step as I'm seeing .m2v and .m2p created if I allow write permissions for the mythburn user. Any ideas where I look for this problem? or should I just re-install mythburn so that it creates a new .conf file in case its missing something? [mythtv-users] mythtv frontend
Hi people I have been doing a bit of googling for an answer but haven't been able to come up with much so came here for an answer. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with ... 1. I am looking to setup a mythtv frontend that is : small, diskless, cheap, not noisy, and will work over a 802.11g wireless network. Is this possible and if so does anyone have any suggestions. Even if it is a commercial product I don't mind (but would still rather building something mini-itx myself). 2. Is it possible to use a thin-client as a mythtv frontend? Would it require 100Mbit ethernet to handle the video throughput? How much ram would the thin-client need? thanks for any help pantz ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
