Hi folks

The subject line might seem kind of simple, but it's the only way I can
think of to describe the situation. Here's what's happening. There's a
specific website that allows you to listen to audio content, but it
doesn't offer links to download said content. I'm pretty sure there has
to be a way to do it though. it uses an html 5 player, which most
screenreaders can recognize, so listening to the audio is no problem.
It offers podcast feeds, but it only offers the last 10 or so items
posted, and I'd like to get a lot more of it. At one time it did allow
downloads but has since stopped for whatever reason. Just so everyone
can have a look, the website is:
http://www.formatchange.com
This is a website that allows you to listen to different radio stations
changing formats. Kind of geeky, but I've been a radio nut for years so
I like this sort of thing and i'm willing to bet others do too. So if
there's any software that'll allow me to capture this audio, I'd love to
get ahold of it and capture some more of this stuff.

Thanks guys!

Its straight Plug And Play, no messing about with software drivers
- in fact none come with the Sound card itself. .

Inputs and outputs are a plenty, 2 microphone inputs, line-in and
out, digital in and out and outputs for your 7.1 speaker system if
you'd rather not use the digital out for that.

The whole thing is housed in a small plastic box which would look at
home on any desktop, thus all connections are easily accessible.

There are 3 buttons on the top, I suspect two are for volume up and
down, I know that one is a mute button.

This Sound card would present a very cheap way for people to make
quality recordings and enjoy quality playback whether it be from
their favourite music coming digitally from VLC to their favourite
action packed Blu-Ray movie.

other reason realtech does not keep this info, so each time that I want to
record from my hifi system I have to pull out the 3.5 plug and plug it in again
and then the popup comes on the screen where I have to select the line-in. Can
someone suggest a way to let realtech keep the setting. It used to keep the
setting but for a while now for some reason I have to go through the above
process each time.

In the case of the Polk Audio, you're paying for the wooden cabinet

lossless Bluetooth.

ez audio converter which works like a charm.
On 2/10/2015 1:41 PM, Evan Reese wrote:

Hey Guys,
I tried to install and use two CD rippers today without success.
First, I tried to install the latest CDEX. After three tries, I finally found a
site that actually let me download it. The first one said the page could not be
displayed, the second and third had download links, but nothing happened when I
hit them. One even said my program was downloading, but my IE11 didn’t download
anything. Finally, I downloaded the file and tried to install it. It wanted to
install three third party programs, AdAware, Tune Up Utilities, and (I think)
Pluto TV. My Window Eyes 8.4 could find no check boxes to select whether to not
install these, so I just clicked Next and figured I’d uninstall them after I
got CDEX successfully installed. However, when I hit Next after Pluto TV came
up, it asked me to select an option and an Okay button came up. I reached an
impasse at that point, since I couldn’t see how to select the option.
So that was the end of trying to install CDEX.
Then I tried VLC Media Player. Installing that was easy. Then I brought up the
instructions on how to rip CDs with it that Dane so thoughtfully provided a
while back. However, not all those controls in setting up the ripping process
are accessible for me with Window Eyes 8.4. For example, I cannot check the CD
check box. It just won’t change from Unchecked no matter how many times I hit
the space bar. I can’t even get it to play a CD that’s in the tray. I know it
plays because I can bring up Winamp and play it. The problem with Winamp of
course is that it doesn’t know what it’s playing anymore, so I’m trying to find
a ripper that knows the tracks.
I looked up Exact Audio Copy, but it looks intimidatingly complicated to me
frankly.
So, anybody got any suggestions for an ACCESSIBLE ripper that I can try that’s
not overly complex, but that will produce reasonably good results.
I’d really appreciate some advice.
Oh, how I miss being able to do the job with Winamp!

baddest out there for $400. On the other end the bose color is a real
nice Hotel room speaker for $129. So it really depends on what you want.
Going Retro I liked my bose sound dock that I left on the train last

hi jeff,

yes it does.
here are the different bluetooth profiles it supports taken from the manual.

Supported Bluetooth profiles*:
A2DP (Wireless Stereo Bluetooth), AVRCP (Bluetooth Remote Control), HFP
(Handsfree profile) Supported Codec: SBC, aptX, AAC

This Creative speaker sounds quite good. Thanks for the details. One
question is, Does it have A2DP so VoiceOver is also heard through the
speaker when using an iDevice?
Thanks,

most of it talks, so it tells you when your pairing, once paired it
makes

also it also speaks some things when you move switches on the back but

not

all of them.
overall it's a really nice speaker with great sound and lots of functions.
and at £99 it's a good deal, and also when you order it on the creative

I'm catching up with PC Audio messages a little late. I see Pete has a
SoundBlaster Roar wireless speaker. I've been looking at this off and
on for a while now but have held back because I've never been sure
whether the controls are accessible to someone who is totally blind.
This especially

as

it has a lot of features which could potentially make it quite
complicated to operate.

Anyway, two things coincided. I just read Pete's post about the Roar
and Creative have just (possibly temporarily) dropped the price to £99.
I'm just wondering if Pete has had any issues with the controls as I
know it has a lot of selectable options? I've got the Boes Soundlink
Mini which is good but sometimes a little too bassy. And I had hoped
too sometimes use the Mini via Bluetooth with Jaws from my PC but found
that the Mini kind of cuts

off

the beginning of Jaws audio unless it is getting continuous sound.
Anyway, I'm really interested in the versatility of the Ror and it's
currently a great price.

Thanks for any info.

hi mary,

i've got two new bluetooth speakers a week ago both of which are fine
one is outstanding but costs more and the other has three diferent
versions each one stepping up in size.
both of these have built in speech that tells you when it's pairing and
when connected and the cheaper one even speaks what battery power is
left.
there both made by creative, the dearer one:
sound blaster roar
has outstanding sound with 30 watts output from a unit that is roughly
the size of an A5 sheet of paper and 2 inches tall.
it has bass boost, the ability to expand the sound field, has a micro
sd card slot it's own built in music player and works as a speaker phone.
if you have an sd card inserted you can either play music that is on
it, press a record button to record memos or lectures and such like or
if you are on a phone call via bluetooth to the speaker a press of the
record button will even record your conversation which you can play
back using

the

buttons on the speaker.
it also has up to date codex built in so it can play uncompressed audio

via

bluetooth or via the 3.5 aux in socket, it even has an alarm switch
that when activated a press of a button makes it work as a siron.
it works from both the mains or from the built in battery.
in UK pounds it cost £129 but i don't think it's much more in

dollars

in the states.
the second is the:
creative muvo mini.
which i think is also known as the muvo 10.
this is about 7 inches long and 2 inches tall and deep.
it has a rubber coating and is suitable for use in bathrooms, on the
beech and anywhere outdoors even in light rain or where it will get

splashed.

it's not as powerful as the roar but still has reasonable sound and
works

I'm not a programmer myself so can't comment but - last I heard - SAM
Broadcaster couldn't be made accessible due to the programming language it was
written in.

I did myself use SAM Broadcaster for quite a hwile - even at that time - it did
require some skill at mouse manipulation but Window-Eyes at least did have most
of the tools for that.

I am not about to spend the kind of money that some on this list have

how hi-end card owners configure their PC.

Try this.
Press enter on Library control on main user interface.
Prress alt+l to open the library menu.
Choose start recording from library menu list.
Also go to the folder on your hard drive where the recordings are stored
to
see if anything is there instead of looking at the RMC5 listview where you
view the recordings.

We can do a JAWS tandem session if you'd like.

Welcome Screen

After you have installed RMC 5 and runs the program for the first time you
will be presented with this welcome screen.

Choose the checkbox in this welcome screen and ok to no longer receive this
welcome screen.
Just be sure you re-read this screen as I cannot remember if this checkbox
is to be checked or unchecked as you do not need this welcome screen.

The basic/listview/advanced option are only available from the welcome
dialog. After that has been dismissed then you need to use the View menu
to turn on/off what you want.

---

Configuring The Main Interface

With Replay Media Catcher running you should configure your main interface,
the UI by

Press enter key on Library tab/module
Press alt+v for the View toolbar menu
Press enter keyboard key on everything located in the view toolbar that does
not have a check mark next to it except for 'always on top'.

This will show all the modules/tabs that are available on the main user
interface. They are

Library
Internet
Audio
Schedule
History
Guides

The most important modules/tabs are,

Library
Internet
Schedule
Guides

When you are done go back with alt+v and make sure everything is checked
except for
the always on top.

---

JAWS Keystrokes for the List View

If you are in another module/tab please

Press enter keyboard key on the Library module/tab on the main user
interface.
Shift+tab will bring you to the list view
If you have captured something you can do the steps below but if not please
read on.

While in the list view you can use the following JAWS keystrokes to hear

Name of your recording
Date
Status

To hear the name press
insert+ctrl+numbers row 1

To hear the date press
insert+ctrl+numbers row 2

To hear the status of your recording/download while in the list view press
insert+ctrl+numbers row 3

The status will say downloading, complete and other info like error.

To hear the whole line press insert+up arrow.

---

The List view

Choose the Library module/tab.
Press insert+t - the title bar should say library
Press alt+L to bring up the library toolbar
Choose display list view if it is not checked with your enter key
You have made the list view the default view on the main user interface

OR

Choose the Library module/tab.
Use your tab keyboard key and locate the 'Display List View' button and
press your enter key.

---

Where is that List View on the Main Interface?

Locate the Library module/tab by pressing your TAB keyboard key multiple
times on main UI and when you find the Library module/tab press shift+tab
and you will land on the list view.

Settings and Conversions Settings

Choose the Library module/tab on main interface.
Press alt+l.
The library menu has the

Settings
Conversions Settings

The settings and conversion settings tab sheets do not work with ctrl+tab
but do not make any modifications with it. Keep it as is. It works great.
The blind JAWS user will know to use his route JAWS to PC cursor command.
Then do a left mouse click with JAWS to press/activate the tab sheet tabs
that he wants to configure.

Then he should go back to PC cursor mode with numpad +.

The route JAWS to PC Cursor keystroke is
Insert+Num Pad minus

Use your arrow keys to navigate the tab sheet text that you wants to
configure or take a glance at.

For example, locate the Monitor, plug-ins, rtmp, http and the other tabs you
have on one of the tab sheets in the Internet settings. Route JAWS to PC
cursor with insert+numpad minus then use arrow keys to find the text
'plugins' and place focus on the letter 'p' on the text called plugins and
do a JAWS left mouse click with keystroke Numpad / using the numeric keypad.
this will activate/choose the plugins tab sheet properties. Go to PC mode
with numpad +. So go ahead and press your tab key to configure the settings
for plugins. To go to a different tab sheet repeat the steps above.

So,
While on the main interface press enter on Library module/tab.
Press Insert+t for title bar.
It should say library in the title bar.
Press alt+l to bring up the library toolbar menu items.
Arrow down one time.
Settings item is heard. If not, then up arrow one time.
Press enter on settings.

The settings tab sheet properties appears.

You will land on one of the tab sheets. One of these will say tab checked. I
don't know for you but one of these will say checked.

Use your right and left arrow keys to review the tabs mentioned below.
The tab sheets are

Library tab, Internet tab, Audio tab, History tab.

You may hear settings tab too but no problem.

For me the Library tab says checked. so I know I am in the Library tab
property sheet properties which I can examine by pressing my tab keyboard
key each time one by one.

Try it.

While on a control within the tab sheet that is active insert+tab will read

Well, the Adobe Flash, MaPlEr and ShoutOff are all in English, while
http://radiogeneral.com transmits 24/7 in Spanish, so I imagine it is to the
radio station you are referring to when you proclaim your lack of knowledge
of the Spanish language.

No, RadioGeneral.com is an international project of Spanish-speaking mostly
blind people of some 25 countries, who present over 100 programs weekly to
thousands of listeners of so far, 104 different countries. It is something
I started about a year ago and has grown rapidly.

I have, actually have had for a while, plans for a similar online radio
station in English, but have not yet started it due to lack of volunteers
willing to dedicate long hours of altruistic labor for the pure pleasure of
doing radio. I do not pay royalty fees, nor emit music programs unless we
have the permission of the composer and performer or just the performer, if
public domain. Almost all our programs are unique, programs where people
want to share their passion or expertise, or come from OTR.

Hello Brian:

I mostly listen to my station http://radiogeneral.com from Internet Explorer
using the Flsh add-on, but there are many programs from which you may open a
radio stream, including Windows Media.

I have used MaPlEr for years, because it is truly accessible, but most of
all because you may load a playlist, for instance all the files in a folder,
then navigate in them extremely easy, going from file to file with
down-arrow and up-arrow and advancing and retrocedeing within a file with
just right or left arrow, or in larger increments using Control or Shift
simultaneously.

Finally, you can go to http://stesoft.com and try ShoutOff.

Best,

Humberto

Hi all,

I'm planning to buy a new computer. With the rapid advancements in
motherboards and hardware generally I'm interested in people's thoughts
about whether it's still better to buy a dedicated sound card or have we
now reached the stage where using integrated sound on the motherboard is
adequate? I bought my current PC in July 2008 so it is about six years
old. I'm currently running a Creative sound card.

I've never used integrated sound on the motherboard on my home PC
before. Also I don't need the most expensive sound card available but I
don't want it to be too basic either. One feature I would like is the
ability to provide some type of virtual surround sound as I have limited
space where my PC is located and only room for a two speaker system.

I appreciate there is no right or wrong answer to this question but I
thought this list would be a good place to ask because there are bound
to be a lot of people who are a bit more fussy about audio quality etc.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

Regards Steve.

No, what i said was this.
1 i converted a small file to mp3, that worked. using the method you
specified.
2 then i tried to set up a larger file to convert to mp3. did the same
steps as you outlined for the first one. when done there was no mp3 in
the folder i had placed in the path.
so while the smaller file converted just fine, the larger one did not
convert at all.

No, what i said was this.
1 i converted a small file to mp3, that worked. using the method you
specified.
2 then i tried to set up a larger file to convert to mp3. did the same
steps as you outlined for the first one. when done there was no mp3 in
the folder i had placed in the path.
so while the smaller file converted just fine, the larger one did not
convert at all.

would you like the file so you can try it?
On 6/29/2014 5:18 PM, Humberto Rodriguez wrote:

Well Sunshine, I am not sure I understand what you wrote, but it seems to me
that you did what I said and it worked, then you did it again with larger
text and it worked again, but then for some reason something else did not
work when you tried to convert text to MP3.

There are always many possibilities for something to throw a wrench into the
works when you are dealing with computers. You must be patient and
eliminate possibilities one by one. If you are able to convert small files
to MP3 but not larger ones, try using a lower bit rate. Keep in mind that
bit and sampler rates go together, for example, you cannot save something at
56K bit and 44100 sampler rates.

Above all, if we are to try to help you, you must take care of being very
explicit when asking questions, about the detailed steps you have taken, as
well as the result and error messages.

Best,

Humberto

No, what i said was this.

2 then i tried to set up a larger file to convert to mp3. did the same

There are always many possibilities for something to throw a wrench into

eliminate possibilities one by one. If you are able to convert small
files
to MP3 but not larger ones, try using a lower bit rate. Keep in mind that
bit and sampler rates go together, for example, you cannot save something
at
56K bit and 44100 sampler rates.

Above all, if we are to try to help you, you must take care of being very

sure if you can insert tags for voice, speed, and audio clips in the
middle of the text like you can all do with text aloud. Yes it cost
some, but at least its worth it. And its not just one developer who do
everything and who can stop it any time or start charching money

steve, you say you can produce an hours worth of material in one minute?
what kind of computer do you have?

Its one more step, but faster and easyer if it can sync for you, as

The background audio means that you can specify a song and that song
can play and then loop wile the actual text is converted and the songs
play til the text is finish. So at the end you end up with one audio
file containing your text plus music, you can specify the volume and
such.

Steve: balabolka does not offer background audio, and it does not
offer to sync your files with ITunes after finished. And I'm not even
sure if you can insert tags for voice, speed, and audio clips in the
middle of the text like you can all do with text aloud. Yes it cost
some, but at least its worth it. And its not just one developer who do
everything and who can stop it any time or start charching money
anytime he feels like. And I just generally am carefull of open sorce
software, but that last point I guess is just me. Its not a bad
program, but I also find text aloud easyer to use, and those features
I'm willing to pay for.

Hi,

Sounds expensive. I'll stick to Balabolka. Balabolka is also quicker

at

producing files, an hour on my system takes about a minute. I can
produce
a
five hour newspaper in five minutes.

It has all the same features I reckon. What's missing in Balabolka?

Also the combobox which asks about stopping action is inacessible to me.
