I like the 40-43 mm focal length on 16x24 mm format. Given the cameras I'm currently using, I wish Pentax would build a few more Pentax-L 43mm f/1.9 Limited units. The Voigtländer Nokton 40mm f/1.4 is an excellent lens, but it's not as sweet as the FA43 Limited. The only alternative in this focal length that might do as well as the Pentax 43mm is the Leica Summicron-C 40mm f/2. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

So I might expect that a DA* 200 macro would be in the price range of the DA* 60-250. Obviously pure speculation. As I think more about the notion of a 200mm macro, however, I am not sure it is that great an idea. I have the FA* 200/4 and I don't use it nearly as much on my digital bodies as I did on 35mm film bodies. In part, I believe, because it gives me a 300mm-equivelant FOV. Back to the SMC Tak 135/2.5. This screwmount lens was available in two versions, One is better than the other. If I remember, they're not easily distinguishable visibly, but the dimensions are slightly different, and I think one has an additional stop marked on the DOF scale. You might find more info in the archives. Once upon a time, we talked about screwmount lenses quite a bit. There's also a K mount version of the better lens. I had one of those and only recently sold it. Excellent lens. But -- dare I say it -- with the DA* 50-135/2.8 in my box, it was redundant and no longer used. But some of that old Pentax glass is very good. I do still have my K 85/1.8. That lens is fast enough to offer an advantage over the zoom. Paul is correct. The following is a Google translation of this page: http://kajiwara.weebly.com/takumar-13525-v2-66.html V2 This version differs from version 1 for six details: - Weight 470g against 444g for version 1 - 35m by 30m to infinity against version 1 - The serial number is 43,812 against 43,802 for the version 1 - 8 slices against 6 for version 1 - Presence of the marking 4 on the scale of depth of field (the absence of 4 Version 1) - Serial number (see page index and prices Takumar ) Note that the optical formula has been included in K-mount: Pentax SMC 135/2.5. Could you do an SDM adaptall?
I think that part of the reason that the adaptall mount went out of favor is the difficulty and complexity of doing a screw-drive autofocus version. It's one thing to make a linkage that'll handle f-stops, but the tolerance you need for screwdrive would be really tough to pass through an adaptall style mount. However, SDM is an electronic connection, not a mechanical one. For that matter, you wouldn't even need a mechanical linkage for aperture, just the stop-down actuator. I was contemplating that with sensors improving so quickly, that it's barely cost effective to spend the money making fast glass, to get a stop or two, when sensors will give that same speed in a couple years time anyways, for a lot cheaper. Therefore, fast primes are going to quickly become a niche market, especially in DSLR mounts, and that there probably aren't enough Pentax mount DSLRs out there to justify the development costs of new fast prime optics. However, it might be economically feasible for a boutique optics company to make fast primes using something akin to an adaptall system. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
