Actually $150.00 might be about right. KEH doesn't have a 6x7 or 62 in stock now but they do have a 645, for which they want $149.99. The improved contrast of the newer generation of coatings has proven itself significant. I gave up on LF, mostly because after turning 60, and a shoulder injury about 10 years ago, carrying that bulk of film holders became too much. I would sometimes use a rise for landscapes, and maybe a slight tilt for certain portraits, but not much. Not enough to justify the weight/bulk. Of course this thing isn't light. Not in the least. But with a pro-pack it's still less than even the old Nagaoka 4x5 w/ a dozen holders, bag or tent, etc. One of the shots I did on Sat was the new daughter-in-law on a staircase. For best grip I ended up holding the camera grip-down and resting it on my braced arm. Grip-up just allowed too much sway. 6x7 & others
Just processed my first 3 rolls from it last night. Two using XP2 and one of TMax100. Negs look good. Printing tonight. Am looking for a good price for a 6x7->K adapter. Since it's the later lens version it has the improved design/coatings I'm thinking it might be a nice, though bulky, portrait lens. Also, shooting more lately with the K5. Oldest son got married last month and Sat I re-shot some pics that the hired photog didn't do as well as they had hoped. Will post some of them tonight or tomorrow. The more I shoot the K5 the more I like the results. (F28/2.8, F50/1.7, FA28-105) But right now I'm looking at a wider lens. Son has an A24/2.8. Would be useful but it's not awfully wide. Maybe a zoom (with the mid-point) in the 18-20 range? Recommendations? Also, a good 200mm would come in handy. Probably not anything longer. Some 200/2.8, or even f/4, would be ok. 6x7 Shutter Button
I got inspired to try some macros on film with the 6x7 yesterday - finally using a set of extension rings I ought quite a while ago. I was getting everything set up to get a snap of a zinnia but when I reached for the camera a felt a slight tug and looked down to see that the cable had caught on the edge of a yard chair and it and part of the shutter button were there, while the camera was in my hand... Ack! I have the part of the button that the cable was attached to and also the lock/unlock switch. Does anyone know if there is another piece that goes on the inside to hold it all together? I am thinking of sending it to Eric but I doubt that there are parts available anymore. I looked, but could not find anything else - this happened on my back patio, which is landscape brick, so if there is a part it should be findable. I can't find a schematic on the internet for this part... I can fire the shutter still by poking a small screwdriver into the hole where the button used to be, but I hate to see a thing of beauty hobbled like this Mark -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: 6x7 Shutter Button
There's likely a good chance eric or someone else has a parts camera that has the pieces you need. You could send him an e-mail with what happened. Another idea, buy a nonworking 6x7 and get the parts you need yourself. This might not be much more than the cost of sending it to someone to fix. 6x7s aren't worth a whole lot these days due to their commonality. Hell functional bodies without the prism are worth about $200 on ebay right now. A parts camera would be cheaper yet. It was a bit of a pain but I felt it was worth it. I eventually sold the RB67 to buy a Pentax 6x7 kit, and it was about then that I realised I may as well just shoot with 120 and crop since I'm having to carry all that size weight around anyway. Pentax 6x7 Hasselblad XPAN equiv. for a lot less
Well, it appears that I'm not getting THIS particular Pentax 6x7 kit (a ways apart on price). However, I thought I'd pass along the following for discussion... Haven't seen anybody ever write about this yet, but people are spending serious dollars on the Hasselblad XPAN ($1500-$2500) but you could do the same thing with a Pentax 6x7, a 67 45mm lens, and the Fotodiox panormama kit for the Pentax 67: http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Panoramic-Adapter-Pentax-Camera/dp/B002KEJ5DC/ Price comparison: Pentax 6x7 body with mirror lock-up ($300-350) 45mm f4 lens ($185-225) Fotodiox adapter ($60) _ Total cost around $600 We can debate weather this is truly a panorama or just a wide angle/wide aspect ratio, but the bottom line is that it would do exactly what the XPAN with a 45mm lens would do for a lot less (although heavier). The XPAN also has a 30mm lens available, which would beat the 67 for wideness but I think most people want rectilinear instead of fisheye. Another advantage of the 6x7 is that you could shoot 120 film or 35mm (with the Fotodiox) where with the XPAN you have only 35mm available. Pentax 6x7 scans, imacon vs. epson 3200
Here's a direct comparison of 6x7 negs scanned on an epson 3200 flatbed and an Imacon professional film scanner. The lens was the 300/4 and the stop was f32, because a lot of depth of field was required here. There was some low lying fog in the vicinity as well. So it's not the sharpest 6x7 neg you'll ever see, but the scan comparison is very revealing. Know too, that I had been scanning 6x7 negs with the 3200 for quite a while at this point, And I was very careful to eliminate negative curl and worked hard to get the best scan possible. The samples here are 100% crops from the digital files. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=12180230 Here's the full image from the Imacon scan. It's been seen here before. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5416945size=lg Paul -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

After a couple of years of shooting almost exclusively with the 6x7, I agree with all that Bill said. I might add that it is a camera that can be used very effectively handheld -- even at speeds as low as 1/30th. A big soft set of steady hands is a great damping device. Thanks Bill! QuickTime is no problem. Do you have any specifics of that demonstration? shutter speed, etc? And do you mind if I post it to another forum where there is some ridiculous debate going on with respect to this topic? I hate seeing stupidity and misinformation promulgated as fact. thanks again! I believe it was shot at 1/30 second, it's hard to tell from looking . I set a heavy Manfrotto tripod up in my living room and very carefully levelled it. I then balanced an American nickel on the screen and used a cable release to trip the shutter. I dod not lock up the mirror for that little vid. Please feel free to post it elsewhere, it's not my bandwidth. ;-) The 6x7 is a big and noisy camera, I think people hear the noise and figure it must be bouncy as well. Mirror slap is generally not an issue, but the shutter is heavy enough to cause lateral vibration if the support is too light or is prone to harmonics. It is not a camera for flimsy tripods. The only time I've experienced picture ruining vibration with the 6x7 was when using an undersized tripod (Manfrotto 055) and a shutter speed that caused the tripod to ring from secondary harmonics (is that the right term?). Pentax 6x7 and loooong exposures
Hi all, Last night we finally got snow here in Europe. Not much, but at least some photo oportunities. Used my Pentax 6x7 MLU for one 4 minute long exposure. Battery started to weak because of cold weather, so i decided to shoot something with K100D and go sleep :) Question: Anyone knows about modification to Pentax 6x7 (i have MLU version), that astro photographers are using? To be able to shoot B-exposures without battery usage. Can i modify camera without sending to Pentax service? At least on my 6x7, the mirror will stay locked without power, but I think you cant get around the shutter requiring power in bulb mode. So I recieved them both today, put new battery in and it works fine. The second is set up for astrophotography and I have no idea how to do this. (any pointers gladly accepted).
