OK, we can talk about those things now. All those autocorrections are great for jpeg-shooters. I wouldn't dispute about the effect (or effectiveness) as there's still no final firmware. As long as the screwdriver pin is pushed back into the mount by the lens mount plate, the motor is turned off. No Adaptall mounts support AF. There are 2 versions for K mount, one is plain K and the second is KA (but not 100% KA, as aperture reporting via contacts is only accurate within certain limits). Some Chinese clones also exist, but are essentially uncoupled preset adapters that are really an uncoupled M42 mount on a M42-K adapter. AF confirm Adaptall adapters exist for other mounts (but are the same chinese uncoupled stacked m42 setup) but those only enable AF confirm (and Av mode on some Sony bodies). Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
Depending on how much of the High ISO improvement comes from firmware there may be an upgrade to the K20D shortly after the release of the new camera to address that. Remember the *ist-Ds had a similar upgrade to *ist-Ds2 standard in every feature except the size of the actual back of camera display after the release of the Ds2. There might even be improvements in the direct view implementation, on the K20D if it doesn't require the changes to hardware. Being able to override SR manually also sounds possible as well. Higher frame rate and higher shutter speeds would require hardware changes. So about half of your list may show up in the K20D's next, (and based on past history), probably last firmware update. Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
Thanks, Doug (and others). The actual birthday was spent doing not very much (which, nowadays, is high on the list of desirable ways to spend a day). We had an oenophile friend visiting from out of town, so on the two previous days we'd had nice dinners cooked on the charcoal grill accompanied by some of the local California produce (two Pinot Noirs from the Santa Maria area). We had intended to drink one of the two bottles he'd brought from his cellar, but as I was still getting over a summer cold we decided it would be a shame to open them. One is a bottle of Mouton Rothschild (1986), and the other is a 1970 Musigny Comte Georges de Vogue. Nice kind of friend to have, no? He flew out on Friday night, heading off to Australia for some Southern hemisphere stargazing (his major hobby is astronomy). Then on Saturday my wife and I went to a wine tasting event held in the Santa Lucia Highlands area. Unfortunately the weather wasn't really cooperating - the temperature hit 100 in the Soledad area - but it was slightly cooler in the foothills. Nobody not sworn to at least partial secrecy really knows what the specs are yet, although some people who've seen things have been hinting (Thibouille in particular). All that's solidly known is it's smaller than the K10D/K20D and shares control layout with the current incarnation of the 645D demo unit, it's not a direct K20D replacement and should be at least a bit higher performance than the K20D. -Adam On Sun, May 17, 2009 at 12:38 PM, Bong Manayon bongmana...@gmail.com wrote: I know that much but like William, I never bothered with the specs (speculation or otherwise). Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
Probably not. In theory Pentax could provide a way in body to input user-based corrections but I highly doubt that. I suspect it [the feature] takes into account lens model but focus distance as well as aperture and focal length so it would be quite difficult IMO to build such profile for other lenses. Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
You shouldn't be worried, there is no loss of functionality. Simply that feature will not work. Nothing bad, only good, even though limited to some lenses. In an interview, a Pentax rep said they had to change something in already roadmapped lenses. This is it (or part of it). Think MTF, it is provided by the lens, not the body. Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
In-camera lens correction is a safe bet. My G1 does this with m43 lenses (but not 4/3rds lenses mounted via adaptor). Useful, especially with wide-angles (say goodbye to distortion), but also impractical to evaluate all F and later lenses (A and earlier lenses don't identify the model to the camera and therefore couldn't support the feature in-camera). Supporting DA and D-FA lenses only is a good middle ground. -Adam On Sun, May 17, 2009 at 3:07 PM, John Whittingham jo...@carmel.ac.uk wrote: It sounds like something I'm not going to need, or be concerned about.Think I'll wait for the K20D replacement. Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
If, as you suggest, it's anything implemented in software, then I'm not going to worry about it one whit - that's what Photoshop is for. The only in-camera processing I use (apart from ISO variations) is JPEG conversion (RAW+JPEG or just plain JPEG output for happy-snaps). While I did notice, just the other day, that my every day kit is all stuff that's at most 2 1/2 years old, and that my most-used lenses are DAs (mostly 16-50 and 50-135), I've got a good number of older lenses that come out occasionally. There's no way I'm going to replace all of those, no matter how useful the feature may be. On Sun, May 17, 2009 at 03:14:13PM -0400, Adam Maas wrote: In-camera lens correction is a safe bet. In an interview, a Pentax rep said they had to change something in already roadmapped lenses. This is it (or part of it). Think MTF, it is provided by the lens, not the body. Same here except previous DA/DFA lenses which settings will be firmware based. Oh, anybody likes HDR, by the way? Nope. I should stop teasing you all ;) Yes. Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
You will remember a while back the discussion of the new Pentax copyright for a lens mount / sealing rings? I suspect the DA and DFA, which have two different types of rubber 'O' ring, one called WR, the other not mentioned, will both be accommodated in the new camera. I'm not going to look, but I don't know if any of the FA and older lenses have any 'O' ring at all. The newest lenses will have more of an 'O' skirt, if my memory serves. Re: How many DA/DFA lenses do you own?
This might be why my K20 did not ask the focal length of my A* 300 ƒ4 when attached to the AF 1.7x tc. It should have, but perhaps it DID get something from the 300 as to focal length. Of course, the photos were soft on tripod, so maybe I should have gone to the Custom Functions and forced a 500mm reading. (There was camera movement, as the tripod was not my sturdiest) On May 17, 2009, at 12:14 , Adam Maas wrote: but also impractical to evaluate all F and later lenses (A and earlier lenses don't identify the model to the camera and therefore couldn't support the feature in-camera) Joseph McAllister pentax...@mac.com http://gallery.me.com/jomac http://web.me.com/jomac/show.me/Blog/Blog.html -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
