In AlienBBC typically the No items found message occurs when you timeout setting is too short. AlienBBC gets info from web pages which can take a while to be fetched. Try increasing WebUI Settings/Advanced/Network/Radio Station Timeout to something like 30 or 40. So the Silabs chipset is not widely available in other dongles - it seems only in the reference implementation. I found very few FM USB dongles. Radioshark is good although no RDS, it has AM as well as FM. The SC call getMetadataFor as part of a protocolhandler is used to return all info that can be displayed on the Squeezeplay Web devices and use SetCurrentTitle for SB3. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing
I think there were changes in SB firmware for SC 7.3.x were to support Pandora and other services where the SB gets a connections and port needed for its direct connections and the SB has to tell SC that it was successfuk connecting. It might have been necessary to ensure playing as there are security issues (e.g. geo IP blocking) when using Pandora on SN - as the geographical location of player would not be the same as SN. The setting makes sense as web proxying avoids the SB player doing the direct connection but it implies an SC server and SC is basically the same mechanism used when playing Pandora on synced players. I think the Geo IP blocking would be done on the location of SC server. The WaveInput plugin uses a small app called wavin2cmd.exe and also WaveOut the vendor supplied driver. These are the only items that are different when using the WaveInoput plugin. There are a number of possibilities. 1. The vendor audio driver has a bug or Wave Out feature is badly configured that is affecting the network driver. 2. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
To try to isolate the problem source - you need to try to run a few programs in turn to see which if any affects LAN speed. 1. Start SC running playing a local source and ensure network speed is 270mbs. Keeps this running for all tests. 2. Start playing same audio out of PC speakersas when you have the LAN speed problem. Using Windows recorder accessory - record audio from Wave Out. Check if network speed changes while recording. This test SC running and recording from PC audio. The WaveInput plugin is not in use. 3. Start playing same audio out of PC speakersas when you have the LAN speed problem. Get a copy of wavin2cmd.exe from the Plugin Bin a directory and lame.exe 3.96.1 into the same temp directory. Open a command prompt window and change direct to the temp directory with wavin2c,mf.exe and lame.exe . Run the following command wavin2cmd.exe -o wavin:0 | lame -x - audio.mp3 Check LAN speeds. After a few minutes stop the command and play the file audio.mp3 to ensure that you were recording the audio stream. If is just static - remove the -x command probably because version of lame is not 3.96.1. This is effectively the same processes that run when WaveInput plugin is being used. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

If I could use my SB remote to pass a URL like: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_radio_three/ back to my server PC/browser - this would launch BBC Radio 3 at 192kbps aac in Flash on my server and the audio could be sent back to the SB as a wavin stream. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00
BGU, I think there are two issues here but they could be related. 1. Network speed drops from 270 to 15Mbps 2. Stops, skips and buffering. The results are interesting but unfortunately do not provide nay insight into the problem. Test 2 3 are basically the same test just using Recorder or wavin2cmd to copy audio data to a file. If there was a difference in the network speeds then wavin2cmd.exe could be blamed. Since both tests have the same result all that can be said is that capturing audio while running SC seems to affect Network performance. To see if SC has any affect on the problem - you could run the Recorder test with a Browser playing a network radio station and without SC running and check to see if network speeds changes between Recorder running or not. Even though network goes down to 15Mbps - this is still lots of capacity for SC - so there must be another reason for the skips - excessive CPU usage is one possibility. I have two theories 1. Security software - it is checking all network activity and the audio capture will look like network traffic and so it is slowing whole system down. The test is to disable all security s/w and see if there is a change. 2. USB network driver - the USB network adaptor has put a lot of code in the kernel network driver and not a lot in the adaptor so that it can be updated to handle changes in the 802.11n standards. Anything that operate at Kernel level (e.g. audio capture) will take away CPU time from the USB network driver and so affects performance. Test - use onboard LAN connection and then a Normal 802.11g USB and see if performance is affected. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35718 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer AAC streams
My understanding (as indicated by various websites) is that the UK bitrate for WMA streams are now the same as the Flash/AAC and Flash/MP3 streams. I can't access these streams so I would expect a user to test and confirm/refute this as this was a recent change. should give better sound quality - assuming of course that you have the right codec don't need to transcode (not that I'm an expert on digital compression!). Support of AAC/AAC+ involves transcoding for Squeezebox but if transcoded to Flac there should be no loss in audio quality. The issue is whether there is discernible quality difference between for example, Radio3 WMA at 192kbit/sec and AAC at 192kbit/sec. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65022 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The log didn't go on long enough to see what happens after mplayer is started but things look ok but it seems either connection times out or mplayer is not running. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?
AlienBBC 2.4 will not work with 7.3 due to SC changes in 7.3 You could try the mplayer.sh from 2.4 (http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn-history/r22/trunk/Alien/Bin/mplayer.sh ) or just comment out the exec and sleep lines from mplayrer.sh. There is no need to stop /start SC when making changes to mplayer.sh I think the problems is some sort of installation issue which has cropped up with the new install. A new install of 7.2 may have the same problem. I think it is better to solve this problem - the next step is to run SC from a command line so that debugging output from mplayer.sh can be logged as the problem is in mplayer.sh. However first I need to do the test myself so I can write down the test instructions. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65473 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?
To test SC from a command line. 1. Open a terminal window logged in as root - make sure the terminal window has a large buffer so that the displayed messages can be copied later. 2. To stop SC running in the background /etc/init.d/squeezecenter stop 3. To run standard install of SC on Ubuntu 9.04 /usr/bin/perl -w /usr/sbin/squeezecenter-server --prefsdir /var/lib/squeezecenter/prefs --logdir /var/log/squeezecenter/ --cachedir /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache --charset=utf8 --user=squeezecenter 4. To restart background - first CTRL/C to stop SC and then /etc/init.d/squeezecenter start You should check the above sequence out before making the changes below to the Alien custom-convert.conf. When checking it out do a test run of playing an BBC station. In the message that appear on the console you should see the following message interleaved with normal log message - the mplayer.sh messages will have no time stamps. Edit the Alien custom-convert.conf file usually found in /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Alien 2. remove the -really-quiet from the rtsp flc line. 3. Save the file. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?
That's great - at least now the problem is identified. [AO PCM] File: /dev/fd/3 (WAVE) PCM: Samplerate: 44100Hz Channels: Stereo Format s16le [AO PCM] Info: Faster dumping is achieved with -vc null -vo null -ao pcm:fast [AO PCM] Info: To write WAVE files use -ao pcm:waveheader (default). [AO PCM] Failed to open /dev/fd/3 for writing! Could not open/initialize audio device - no sound. This problem was fixed by the exec sleep combination on other systems - it seemed to only happen on newer faster systems. The sleep 0.1 time is a bit arbitrary as it depends on the processor and system. You could try to increase it to say 0.3 or 0.5 and see if it works. You do not need to stop SC between test. Just edit mplayer.sh altering the sleep value between testing playing BBC station. Make sure edit is saved and that playlist is cleared before each test run. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65473 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?
I already had mplayer segfault problems on a linux Intel machine, now it looks I have the same on an amd64 machine. I guess it boils down to my brew of repos + singularities in kernel compilation choices (I use 250Hz ticks, no preempt for example); I had Alien working well with a stock kernel, then updated to lenny 5.0.1-5.0.2 + custom kernel (2.6.28-1) + SC7.3.2-7.3.3 and got the immediate mplayer segfault issue again. I need the custom kernel -from this exact, outdated source revision!- to have ACPI working correctly. I had removed the other kernels and did some apt-autoremove before witnessing the issue, so I can't track back and pinpoint it more specifically. mplayer just uses TCP and audio so there should be no need for a special kernel. Most common reason for mplayer segfault - using a 3rd party build and your PC does not have all the hardware or CPU support is wrong (e.g. VIA processor). Build your own mplayer - it is very straight forward. - Wrong CPU auto detected - manually build mplayer and tell it to assume no SSE2, SSE3 etc. - don't support any of the special CPU instructions set (e.g. Intel, AMD) variations. If I find the time I will try to replace mplayer with vlc (neither have extremely legible command lines) and report. Vlc has many interfaces, including a telnet one, so I guess replacement is possible. Or is it not ? I don't think vlc has the necessary realaudio support to work with AlienBBC. Stick with mplayer. Stick with an old release if necessary as newer release (and buggier) mainly add video support which are not necessary for AlienBBC. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65473 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The Virgin and Classic WMA stream tests are irrelevant unless you are playing to a player which does not support WMA such as Softsqueeze or SB1. Do not try testing with Softsqueeze unless you have 3.8 or 3.9b1 installed as there is a separate problem of Softsqueeze with 7.3.x. [SlimDevices: Plugins] A new AlienBBC 2.6b1 beta for testing.
A new version of AlienBBC is available for beta testing. This beta is only available for 7.3.x and 7.4. The main aim of the beta is to support SqueezeCenter 7.4noweb-sqllite. An initial version of a new feature has been added to display station logo and provide Now Next information on live WMA (e.g. using More Radio menu) and RealAudio streams. This feature enables UK users to use the higher speed BBC WMA URLs and get program information. please provide feedback on this feature (e.g. not useful, make configurable, change layout) The Now Next information is put into the Artist and Album fields so on WebUI the Next info is displayed above the Now. On Squeezeplay - the next info will scroll after the Now on the Now playing display. There a few bug fixes to show program information again when playing Listen Again. INSTALLATION. 1. Add this repository to Extension Downloader http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/testrepo.xml 2. A new entry will appear offering AlienBBC upgrade to 2.6b1-7.3. Select and click Apply. 3. Restart SC After restart, if AlienBBC does not have a BBC Live Streams - WMA menu then go to AlienBBC Plugins settings and click Reset menu. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65546 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?
The default setup of mplayer.sh uses /dev/fd/3 as the device to pipe output from mplayer to SC and on your system mplayer cannot open this device. There is a fix to mplayer.sh in 2.5 for Ubuntu for accessing /dev/fd/3 but it does not seem to work for your systems. I tried to find out what is ahppening and it looks like /dev/fd/3 is in use by another process before mplayer. If that is the case then this may the cause of your problem. So test this - I suggest using /dev/fd/4 instead of /dev/fd/3 as 4 does not seem to be in use. To change device number requires changes to two AlienBBC files in /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Alien. The custom-convert.conf and Bin/mplayer.sh 1. Change the /dev/fd/3 to /dev/fd/4 on the 4 RTSP lines of custom-convert.conf Code: [mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:file=/dev/fd/3 2. Change the reference to 3 to 4 in mplayer.sh Code: exec 31 sleep 0.1 You will need to restart SC to get the custom-convert.conf change take effect. As before a log of the mplayer output is needed to see if access to /dev/fd/4 worked or not. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65473 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] A new AlienBBC 2.6b1 beta for testing.
AlienBBC has two main purposes 1. Play RealAudio streams/files. Before June, RealAudio was the only format available by the BBC to non-UK user to listen to BBC Radio 1-4 live. 2. Access and listen to previously broadcast programs (aka LIsten Again or iPlayer) which are currently only available in RealAudio for non-UK listeners. The latest beta is a minor release. - fixes AlienBBC so that it works with all version of SC 7.4 (both trunk and noweb-sqllite) - Adds program information for the current program and the next program for the main live stations. This info is provided on the WMA feeds which means UK user can get program information and a high quality feed. Basic program information is provided by RadioTime on theirt BBC live feeds but - the RadioTime feeds are not reliable - UK users of Radiotime only get a 48kbps feed from RadioTime and not the 128kbps from the BBC. AlienBBC and BBCiPlayer perform roughly the same task of providing access to BBC Listen Again and it is likely that AlienBBC will eventually be reduced to just provide RealAudio support as BBC feeds that BBCiPlayer uses now seem to be reliable, -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=65546 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
