With 7.3.x and softsqueeze playing wma streams you need to use
Softsqueeze 3.8 or 3,9b1 as well as AlienBBC 2.5 if on Linux/OSX

How about some more info - OS ? SC version ? Type/media being played ?
Version of Java ?

How did you install SoftSqueeze ? I think there is a problem with the
zip version - the libraries don't match and usually an error message
appears. Most users use the Extension Downloader.

The bugs that 3.8 and 3.9b1 solve relate to non MP3 streams which are
transcoded into Flac typically WMA or RealAudio and also problems with
pause/play. Your problem does sound like a network issue.

Since all these services are subscribers one with special SC plugins -
I thik the issue is nbot Softsq

I think there are two problems but I can't be sure as the Pandora log
did not record all the requested message.

So a log is needed with
* player.source set to DEBUG
and
* network.protocol.slimproto set to DEBUG

Also don't cut the logs off - wait at least 2 mins after pressing play.
Do not try to play the same station/program more than once as SC caches
failed attempts.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: BBCiPlayer Plugin (UK only)

In AlienBBC typically the No items found message occurs when you
timeout setting is too short. AlienBBC gets info from web pages which
can take a while to be fetched. Try increasing WebUI
Settings/Advanced/Network/Radio Station Timeout to something like 30 or
40.

There may be another issue - the BBC may have recently changed the UK
URLs for livestreams as they have changed the handling of the
discrimination between international and UK users and this may be
causing a problem. As I am not in the UK I cannot test this.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Howto: streaming FM radio with embedded RDS information

2009-06-19 Thread bpa

So the Silabs chipset is not widely available in other dongles - it
seems only in the reference implementation. I found very few FM USB
dongles. Radioshark is good although no RDS, it has AM as well as FM.

The SC call getMetadataFor as part of a protocolhandler is used to
return all info that can be displayed on the Squeezeplay Web devices
and use SetCurrentTitle for SB3. So it is easy to feed info in
realtime.

I have a plugin called TunerPlay for Windows. I developed a Linux V4l
version of it but didn't finish it as DAB, DVB-S, DVB-T radio seem to
more in demand than FM and users have developed generic HTTP server
interfaces for these.

RealAudio is not native in SB players.

The WMA BBC live stations are now available outside of the UK so there
is no need for AlienBBC because WMA is supported natively. However I
think Listen Again (and possible Local Radio) is still only available in
RealAudio so AlienBBC is still needed for these.

It looks like additional code is in needed in Softsqueeze to emulate
SB3 - it is probably not practical nor the correct thing to do. The
better way would be to figure out how Pandora is supported with SB1 as I
think the SB1 firmware has not been changed for a few years.

The following is an idea I had about a workaround.
Assuming you have mplayer and lame installed, there is a slim chance
that adding the following lines to the convert.conf might work.

Code:

  pandora mp3 softsqueeze *
# F:{PATH=%f}R:{PATH=%F}T:{START=-ss %s}U:{DURATION=-endpos %w}
[mplayer] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null $START$ $DURATION$ -cache 128 -af

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 beta for testing

2009-06-20 Thread bpa

I think there were changes in SB firmware for SC 7.3.x were to support
Pandora and other services where the SB gets a connections and port
needed for its direct connections and the SB has to tell SC that it was
successfuk connecting.

It might have been necessary to ensure playing as there are security
issues (e.g. geo IP blocking) when using Pandora on SN - as the
geographical location of player would not be the same as SN.

The setting makes sense as web proxying avoids the SB player doing the
direct connection but it implies an SC server and SC is basically the
same mechanism used when playing Pandora on synced players. I think the
Geo IP blocking would be done on the location of SC server.

By all stations - does that include Sirius ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: CDplayer 1.07beta1

2009-06-20 Thread bpa

From linux/cdrom.h

Code:

/* drive status possibilities returned by CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS ioctl */
  #define CDS_NO_INFO 0   /* if not implemented */
  #define CDS_NO_DISC 1
  #define CDS_TRAY_OPEN   2
  #define CDS_DRIVE_NOT_READY 3
  #define CDS_DISC_OK 4

/* return values for the CDROM_DISC_STATUS ioctl */
/* can also return CDS_NO_[INFO|DISC], from above */
  #define CDS_AUDIO   100
  #define CDS_DATA_1  101
  #define CDS_DATA_2  102
  #define CDS_XA_2_1  103
  #define CDS_XA_2_2  104
  #define CDS_MIXED   105

The plugin does a CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS first - if there is a disk in the
drive then it does a CDROM_DISC_STATUS

Code 2 which is returned by your drive is either CDS_TRAY_OPEN or
CDS_OPEN_TRAY. No disc will be code 1.

If you want I'll put together a Perl test app just to return CDROM
drive status.

This is not a good message as this will appear even if there is a CD in

When you refer to gain I presume this is on an amp attached to your SB.

The problem is in your Alsa setup and the volume levels probably
controlled by alsa mixer. If you are using a laptop then it is likely
there is no proper volume control and the laptop volume control is
actually controlling the signal level.

Try using Audacity to get a good signal and when you achieve it - look
at the alsa mixer settings and compare to alsa mixer settings when using
the plugin.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00

2009-06-23 Thread bpa

You do not provide any details of your OS, your networking hardware or
your network topology (I.e. how are the laptop, player and two routers
connected and what is the traffic route) so any suggestions are
speculation.

The WaveInput plugin uses a small app called wavin2cmd.exe and also
WaveOut the vendor supplied driver. These are the only items that are
different when using the WaveInoput plugin.

There are a number of possibilities.

1. The vendor audio driver has a bug or Wave Out feature is badly
configured that is affecting the network driver.
2. You are using Wifi 802.11n and have enabled channel bonding to
achieve 270Mbps but the network/computer load of wavin2cmd.exe/driver
is forcing the network to stop using channel bonding.
3. You are using Vista and one of the following cnditions may be
applicable

Is the file set to save into the album folder or into a special folder

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Accessing Softsqueeze on Remote PC

2009-06-23 Thread bpa

To run Softsqueeze on a PC - you do not need to install Squeezecenter.
You just need the file SoftSqueeze.jar . Softsqueeze does not need to
be registered on Squeezenetwork either.

To run it - all you need is Java and use the command
java -jar SoftSqueeze.jar

Once running - if Softsqueeze is on trhe same LAN as rthe squeezecenter
- it will detect it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Accessing Softsqueeze on Remote PC

2009-06-23 Thread bpa

Sorry!! Don't follow you! When u say I don't need to install
Squeezecenter on the remote pc, are u saying I should not install it? Or
 that it does not matter?

What do you mena by a remote pc - a PC on the same local LAN/subnet
or a PC accessing your Squeezecenter over the internet ?

Softsqueeze is just a player just like an SB3. You can have many PCs
each running a copy of Softsqueeze but all connected to a single
Squeezecenter.

Don't understand why it would not need to be registered!! I want to run
Softsqueeze on more than one remote pc. So how would Squeezecentre on my
main pc differentiate? Indeed, when you run Softsqueeze in provides a
 unique number to enable registration.

You only need to register a player on Squeeznetwork when you want that
player to be able to user Squeezenetwork when you Squeezecenter is not
running.

If Softsqueeze is just accessing your SqueezeCDenter then there is no
need to use Squeezenetwork and so no need to register the player.

When I try and select the main PC as source, Softsqueeze says Please
wait, connecting to slim server and hangs.

typically Firewall, security, router or network config (e.g. different
subnets) problem. If Squeezecenter is trying to access over internet
then Softsqueeze needs to be confgured properly and also router in front
of Squeezcenter.

What exactly do you mean by point your browser on the PC you want to
run Softsqueeze at the PC running Squeezecenter and then select
 SoftSqueeze?

If PC with IP address 192.168.1.150 is running Squeezceneter and PC
with IP address 192.168.1.200 is running Softsqueeze. Then start browser
on PC with IP address 192.168.1.200 and in browser use the following
address http://192.168.1.150:9000 and when SC WebUI appears click on
Softsqueeze under Extras.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00

2009-06-23 Thread bpa

To try to isolate the problem source - you need to try to run a few
programs in turn to see which if any affects LAN speed.

1. Start SC running playing a local source and ensure network speed is
270mbs. Keeps this running for all tests.

2. Start playing same audio out of PC speakersas when you have the LAN
speed problem. Using Windows recorder accessory - record audio from
Wave Out. Check if network speed changes while recording. This test
SC running and recording from PC audio. The WaveInput plugin is not in
use.

3. Start playing same audio out of PC speakersas when you have the LAN
speed problem. Get a copy of wavin2cmd.exe from the Plugin Bin a
directory and lame.exe 3.96.1 into the same temp directory. Open a
command prompt window and change direct to the temp directory with
wavin2c,mf.exe and lame.exe . Run the following command
wavin2cmd.exe -o wavin:0 | lame -x - audio.mp3
Check LAN speeds. After a few minutes stop the command and play the
file audio.mp3 to ensure that you were recording the audio stream. If
is just static - remove the -x command probably because version of
lame is not 3.96.1. This is effectively the same processes that run
when WaveInput plugin is being used.

I've tested with the suggested names and cannot reproduce the problem.
The artwork is saved OK on my system.

So the problem is in some other part of your setup so I need a log of
the save process. Can you do the following.

1. Note current time.
2. In WebUI Settings/Advanced/Logging set plugin.findart to DEBUG and
click Apply button in bottom RHS.
3. Open Server Log window or use an Editor (e.g. word pad).
3. Try to save cover art that you know will fail.
4. Stop SC
5. Copy log entries from time noted in Step 1 until SC Stopped and save
in text file and attache to a post.

What version of AlienBBC ?

If I could use my SB remote to pass a URL like:

 http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_radio_three/

back to my server PC/browser - this would launch BBC Radio 3 at 192kbps
aac in Flash on my server and the audio could be sent back to the SB as
 a wavin stream.

Is this sort of thing possible?

Anything's possible with enough time/effort but I don't this approach
can be easily implemented.

While your solution is trying to solve a general problem - I would
prefer to work out a way of playing flash encapsulated audio through SC.
I have an idea how to achieve this but not enough time to implement it.

Edit (use Wordpad not Notepad) the file WAVIN.pm and add the following
line probab;y before the sub isRemote { 1 } line.

Code:

  sub bufferThreshold { 70 }

The number can be between 0 and 255 but in reality don't try below 50.
It sets the buffer size which is directly related to delay.

You need to restart SC to make any change take effect.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Wave Input plugin v1.00

2009-06-30 Thread bpa

BGU,
I think there are two issues here but they could be related.

1. Network speed drops from 270 to 15Mbps
2. Stops, skips and buffering.

The results are interesting but unfortunately do not provide nay
insight into the problem.

Test 2 3 are basically the same test just using Recorder or wavin2cmd
to copy audio data to a file. If there was a difference in the network
speeds then wavin2cmd.exe could be blamed. Since both tests have the
same result all that can be said is that capturing audio while running
SC seems to affect Network performance.
To see if SC has any affect on the problem - you could run the
Recorder test with a Browser playing a network radio station and
without SC running and check to see if network speeds changes between
Recorder running or not.

Even though network goes down to 15Mbps - this is still lots of
capacity for SC - so there must be another reason for the skips -
excessive CPU usage is one possibility.

I have two theories
1. Security software - it is checking all network activity and the
audio capture will look like network traffic and so it is slowing whole
system down. The test is to disable all security s/w and see if there
is a change.

2. USB network driver - the USB network adaptor has put a lot of code
in the kernel network driver and not a lot in the adaptor so that it can
be updated to handle changes in the 802.11n standards. Anything that
operate at Kernel level (e.g. audio capture) will take away CPU time
from the USB network driver and so affects performance. Test - use
onboard LAN connection and then a Normal 802.11g USB and see if
performance is affected.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer AAC streams

What is the advantages of using the AAC stream vs WMA ?

The AAC stream would requires SC to transcode vs a WMA stream which can

AAC listen again using flvstream would have no FFW / REW so why is it
better than MP3 ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer AAC streams

2009-07-02 Thread bpa

My understanding (as indicated by various websites) is that the UK
bitrate for WMA streams are now the same as the Flash/AAC and Flash/MP3
streams. I can't access these streams so I would expect a user to test
and confirm/refute this as this was a recent change.

should give better sound quality - assuming of course that you have the
right codec don't need to transcode (not that I'm an expert on digital
 compression!).

Support of AAC/AAC+ involves transcoding for Squeezebox but if
transcoded to Flac there should be no loss in audio quality.

The issue is whether there is discernible quality difference between
for example, Radio3 WMA at 192kbit/sec and AAC at 192kbit/sec.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] WaveInput on Linux - I'm stuck on setup

2009-07-10 Thread bpa

If you can only record PC audio after a sudo then it is very likely a
permission/group issue.

In the groups, the user running SC does not have the box checked for
use audio devices, and I can't select it. Why, and is that the (or an)
 issue at play here?

You can probably only select it if you are logged in as administrator
or root.

It looks like your SC is trying to transcode WMA to MP3 but it is not
setup.

Please give details of SC - what OS are you using ? If it is Linux or
OSX then perhaps AlienBBC is not properly installed as it will be
providing WMA decode.

In WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetype is WMA - MP3 enabled or greyed out
?

If you are trying to playing a WMA stream to stream.mp3 - yopu need
something to decode WMA and lame to encode it into MP3.

On Linux and OSX - AlienBBC will decode WMA, on XP there is a SC
supplied app to do the job.

I don't know the iPhone capabilities - is it not able to play WMA
streams directly ? If so then just let iPhone play the BBC URLs
directly and forget about SC.

I am not sure which version of lame.exe SC is setup to use - lame.exe

static audio. Start with 3.96.1 and then try 3.98.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-11 Thread bpa

Did you use Extensio0n Downloader to install AlienBBC ?
IS it version 2.5 of AlienBBC ?

The log message indicates that SC has started the stream and it looks
like AlienBBC thinks it is playing. SO I think the problem is in
mplayer or mplayer.sh and/or permissions.

1. Make sure you have installed the mplayer nogui version and not the
mplayer graphical front end.

2. Check that the file mplayer.sh in the Plugins/Bin directory has
execute permissions and is owned by Squeezecenter.

Get a log of a stream starting with player.source set to DEBUG

2009-07-11 Thread bpa

The log didn't go on long enough to see what happens after mplayer is
started but things look ok but it seems either connection times out or
mplayer is not running.

Since about June (due to funding) BBC have dropped streams rate of
RealAudio ack from 64kbits/sec to about 48kbits/sec.

This means the time taken to start a live stream has gone back up to
about 10 sec. Also for some reason some streams are now taking longer
to connect so try increasing the Web UI Settings/Advanced / Network/
Radio Station timeout to say 20.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-11 Thread bpa

The progress bar is misleading - once SC starts to connect progress
assumes everything is OK and starts counting even if no connection has
been made to station. Only when SC says connection broken does progress
bar stop.

The audio stream is live so can only supply data at 48kbps and so to
fill the 128kb (?) cache will always take time (cache size / stream data
rate). having a high speed broadband cannot speed up the realtime live
data stream only listen again streams.

The problem is around mplayer/ mplayer.sh
Most likely

1. mplayer.sh cannot find mplayer.
2. mplayer cannot play the rtsp stream
3. router is blocking port 554

Re point1 - What directory is mplayer installed ? I have Ubuntu 8.??
and standard install worked but perhaps 9.04 has moved things around.

to test 2 3 can you run from a command line

Code:

  mplayer -v
rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/scotland/live/scotland_tl_g2.ra

mplayer is working OK - the messages are because you have no sound card
setup that suits mplayer.

So the problem is mplayer.sh. There was a change to mplayer.sh in 2.5
so it looks like it must be causing the problem which is odd because the
2.5 fix was to solve a specific Ubuntu playing problem.

Does your mplayer.sh looks like this one
http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/Alien/Bin/mplayer.sh

Specifically does it have these lines which are the fix for Ubuntu.

Code:

exec 31
sleep 0.1

I've tested on a Ubuntu 9.04 systems with latest SC 7.3.4 and AlienBBC
2.5-7.3. It all worked OK.

The only idea I have is that perhaps there are left over files from 7.2
as plugins will have changed directories.

Besides dong a file search - a simple test would be to

1. Stop SC
2. Rename the file
/var/lib/squeezecenter/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Alien/Bin/mplayer.sh
to say xxmplayer.sh
3. Restart SC
4. Check WebUI Settings/Advanced/File Types - all the RTSP setting
should be greyed out. If they are not greyed out then there is a 2nd
mplayer.sh somewhere.
5. Stop SC ands rename the mplayer.sh file back to mplayer.sh

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-12 Thread bpa

AlienBBC 2.4 will not work with 7.3 due to SC changes in 7.3

You could try the mplayer.sh from 2.4
(http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn-history/r22/trunk/Alien/Bin/mplayer.sh
) or just comment out the exec and sleep lines from mplayrer.sh.

There is no need to stop /start SC when making changes to mplayer.sh

I think the problems is some sort of installation issue which has
cropped up with the new install. A new install of 7.2 may have the same
problem.

I think it is better to solve this problem - the next step is to run SC
from a command line so that debugging output from mplayer.sh can be
logged as the problem is in mplayer.sh.

However first I need to do the test myself so I can write down the test
instructions.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-12 Thread bpa

To test SC from a command line.

1. Open a terminal window logged in as root - make sure the terminal
window has a large buffer so that the displayed messages can be copied
later.
2. To stop SC running in the background
/etc/init.d/squeezecenter stop
3. To run standard install of SC on Ubuntu 9.04
/usr/bin/perl -w /usr/sbin/squeezecenter-server --prefsdir
/var/lib/squeezecenter/prefs --logdir /var/log/squeezecenter/ --cachedir
/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache --charset=utf8 --user=squeezecenter
4. To restart background - first CTRL/C to stop SC and then
/etc/init.d/squeezecenter start

You should check the above sequence out before making the changes below
to the Alien custom-convert.conf.

When checking it out do a test run of playing an BBC station. In the
message that appear on the console you should see the following message
interleaved with normal log message - the mplayer.sh messages will have
no time stamps.

Streaming: Launching mplayer -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth
1000 -cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao
pcm:file=/dev/fd/3

mplayer: could not connect to socket

mplayer: No such file or directory

To get more info from mplayer in mplayer.sh - do the following.

1. Edit the Alien custom-convert.conf file usually found in
/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Alien
2. remove the -really-quiet from the rtsp flc line.
3. Save the file.

Run SC from the command line as detailed above - copy the resulting
messages from mplayer to post.

That's great - at least now the problem is identified.

 [AO PCM] File: /dev/fd/3 (WAVE)
PCM: Samplerate: 44100Hz Channels: Stereo Format s16le
[AO PCM] Info: Faster dumping is achieved with -vc null -vo null -ao
 pcm:fast
[AO PCM] Info: To write WAVE files use -ao pcm:waveheader (default).

[AO PCM] Failed to open /dev/fd/3 for writing!
Could not open/initialize audio device - no sound.

This problem was fixed by the exec sleep combination on other
systems - it seemed to only happen on newer faster systems. The sleep
0.1 time is a bit arbitrary as it depends on the processor and system.
You could try to increase it to say 0.3 or 0.5 and see if it works.

You do not need to stop SC between test. Just edit mplayer.sh altering
the sleep value between testing playing BBC station. Make sure edit is
saved and that playlist is cleared before each test run.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-12 Thread bpa

I already had mplayer segfault problems on a linux Intel machine, now
it looks I have the same on an amd64 machine. I guess it boils down to
my brew of repos + singularities in kernel compilation choices (I use
250Hz ticks, no preempt for example); I had Alien working well with a
stock kernel, then updated to lenny 5.0.1-5.0.2 + custom kernel
(2.6.28-1) + SC7.3.2-7.3.3 and got the immediate mplayer segfault issue
again. I need the custom kernel -from this exact, outdated source
revision!- to have ACPI working correctly. I had removed the other
kernels and did some apt-autoremove before witnessing the issue, so I
can't track back and pinpoint it more specifically.

mplayer just uses TCP and audio so there should be no need for a
special kernel.
Most common reason for mplayer segfault
- using a 3rd party build and your PC does not have all the hardware or
CPU support is wrong (e.g. VIA processor). Build your own mplayer - it
is very straight forward.
- Wrong CPU auto detected - manually build mplayer and tell it to
assume no SSE2, SSE3 etc. - don't support any of the special CPU
instructions set (e.g. Intel, AMD) variations.

If I find the time I will try to replace mplayer with vlc (neither have
extremely legible command lines) and report. Vlc has many interfaces,
including a telnet one, so I guess replacement is possible. Or is it not
 ?

I don't think vlc has the necessary realaudio support to work with
AlienBBC.

Stick with mplayer. Stick with an old release if necessary as newer
release (and buggier) mainly add video support which are not necessary
for AlienBBC.

The Virgin and Classic WMA stream tests are irrelevant unless you are

[SlimDevices: Plugins] A new AlienBBC 2.6b1 beta for testing.

2009-07-12 Thread bpa

A new version of AlienBBC is available for beta testing. This beta is
only available for 7.3.x and 7.4.

The main aim of the beta is to support SqueezeCenter 7.4noweb-sqllite.

An initial version of a new feature has been added to display station
logo and provide Now Next information on live WMA (e.g. using More
Radio menu) and RealAudio streams. This feature enables UK users to use
the higher speed BBC WMA URLs and get program information. please
provide feedback on this feature (e.g. not useful, make configurable,
change layout)

The Now Next information is put into the Artist and Album
fields so on WebUI the Next info is displayed above the Now. On
Squeezeplay - the next info will scroll after the Now on the Now
playing display.

There a few bug fixes to show program information again when playing
Listen Again.

INSTALLATION.
1. Add this repository to Extension Downloader
http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/testrepo.xml
2. A new entry will appear offering AlienBBC upgrade to 2.6b1-7.3.
Select and click Apply.
3. Restart SC

After restart, if AlienBBC does not have a BBC Live Streams - WMA
menu then go to AlienBBC Plugins settings and click Reset menu.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-13 Thread bpa

The default setup of mplayer.sh uses /dev/fd/3 as the device to pipe
output from mplayer to SC and on your system mplayer cannot open this
device.

There is a fix to mplayer.sh in 2.5 for Ubuntu for accessing /dev/fd/3
but it does not seem to work for your systems. I tried to find out what
is ahppening and it looks like /dev/fd/3 is in use by another process
before mplayer. If that is the case then this may the cause of your
problem.

So test this - I suggest using /dev/fd/4 instead of /dev/fd/3 as 4 does
not seem to be in use.

To change device number requires changes to two AlienBBC files in
/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Alien. The
custom-convert.conf and Bin/mplayer.sh

1. Change the /dev/fd/3 to /dev/fd/4 on the 4 RTSP lines of
custom-convert.conf

Code:

[mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000 -cache 128
-af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:file=/dev/fd/3

2. Change the reference to 3 to 4 in mplayer.sh

Code:

exec 31
sleep 0.1

You will need to restart SC to get the custom-convert.conf change take
effect. As before a log of the mplayer output is needed to see if
access to /dev/fd/4 worked or not.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] A new AlienBBC 2.6b1 beta for testing.

2009-07-13 Thread bpa

AlienBBC has two main purposes

1. Play RealAudio streams/files. Before June, RealAudio was the only
format available by the BBC to non-UK user to listen to BBC Radio 1-4
live.

2. Access and listen to previously broadcast programs (aka LIsten
Again or iPlayer) which are currently only available in RealAudio for
non-UK listeners.

The latest beta is a minor release.
- fixes AlienBBC so that it works with all version of SC 7.4 (both
trunk and noweb-sqllite)
- Adds program information for the current program and the next program
for the main live stations. This info is provided on the WMA feeds which
means UK user can get program information and a high quality feed.

Basic program information is provided by RadioTime on theirt BBC live
feeds but
- the RadioTime feeds are not reliable
- UK users of Radiotime only get a 48kbps feed from RadioTime and not
the 128kbps from the BBC.

AlienBBC and BBCiPlayer perform roughly the same task of providing
access to BBC Listen Again and it is likely that AlienBBC will
eventually be reduced to just provide RealAudio support as BBC feeds
that BBCiPlayer uses now seem to be reliable,

Can you try the previous version of mplayer.sh but edited to use
/dev/f/4 so the change to custom-convert.conf is also needed.

The older mplayer.sh can be downloaded from here.
http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn-history/r22/trunk/Alien/Bin/mplayer.sh

And then edit to change the 3 to a 4

Code:

  $app $* 31 12

Your mods look OK.

I must be missing something. The mods you have made should make
AlienBBC behave like 2.4 which you had working on 9.04 so it should be
working.

I'll have to review the logs again to see if there is another
explanation and probably make up a version of mplayer.sh which produces
more message to make sure all the command (e.g. exec) are in fact
succeeding.

Looks wrong unless you are using an old version.

What version of SC ?
What OS ?

You should be using Extension Downloader to install and then reboot.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Trying to get BBC local Radio on Squeezecenter 7.3.2

BBC Local radio is still in RealAudio format and so you need a working
version of mplayer.

I think SSODS ( http://oinkzwurgl.org/ssods )can provide a suitable
version.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-16 Thread bpa

I've attached a replacement for the Alien custom-convert.conf file.

1. Save a copy of the distributed custom-convert.conf
2. Download the attached file and rename to custom-convert.conf
3. Copy the new file into Alien Plugin directory to replace distributed
version.
4. restart SC
5. After restart check Settings/Advanced/FileTypes that RTSP entries
use mplayer and not mplayer.sh

The attached version of custom-convert.conf avoid the use of mplayer.sh
but still uses /dev/fd/4 so if the problem remains then it is localise
to /dev/fd. This conf file makes it hard to debug mplayer problem and
so the only debug info will come from player.source set to DEBUG.

Quick reaction.

There is something wrong - that conf file dumps all mplayer error
message to /dev/null - they should not be visible. IT is possible the
conf file is not being used.

Can you show the player.source = DEBUG log where the mplayer command is
shown.

even with the really-quiet - you should not see any error message since
mplayer errors message are directed into /dev/null

Can you show the player.source log.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - 7.3.3 - cannot stream?

2009-07-16 Thread bpa

Not sure of your explanations but SC supplies a version of patched flac
because standard flac has a few bugs. SC flac was modded for 7.3.3 and
at a guess was not built to run on a 64 bit kernel - this should be
logged as a bug or perhaps added to existing bug reports..

The bug fixes in SC version of flac are Bug 10886 (
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=10886 ) and Bug 11223 (
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11223 )

Using standard Flac I reckon the main problem you will have is that
stream will probably stop after about 3hrs.

Did you restart SC ?
During restart - when SC is supposed to be stopped - check on your
player that it really has stopped. On Windows some user have
stopped/restarted the tray application and not SC.

Rowbos,

If you have the same problem with More Radio link then it is a
general setup / Network /ISP issue and not specifdically a Plugin
issue.

Try increasing the WebUI Settings/Advanced/Network/Radio Station
Timeout

Do any of the Listen Again links work ?

Johnbax,
If you had already restarted - make sure you have reloaded the browser
page just in case you are seeing old cached info.
