I was 16, 1 year before my accident, camping in the adirondack mountains, (specifically Saranac Lake) it was 1972. I woke up in my sleeping bag snuggled warm inside a half wood half canvas cabin with no running water or electricity. It was just bearly starting to get light out at 5:35am with my sister's and a friend still sleeping near by. I pulled my legs out of the flannel bag and put my bare feet on the sandy wooden floor to search for my sneakers. As I tip toed to the screen door, I took my time to open it as to not wake anybody so I can have this precious time to myself. It was just light enough that I needn't light the Lantrens to find my way to the lake at the bottom of the sandy trail cut through wild blueberries bushes. I finally came upon my destination, an old green wooden canoe that had been pulled up upon the shore. I got in as quietly as possible and picked up an oar without making a sound. My father had taught me how to Indian paddle many years ago, a technique that was virtually silent. Once the paddle is in the water it never comes out. With some clever turns of the oar I had mastered the technique. I'm now right where I want to be ... in the middle of the Placid lake with fog hanging over the water not yet burned off. I just sat there, then finally I start to hear one bird start to waken with a chirp here and there. Then another bird returns his call. It's now getting brighter and the fog is starting to burn off the calm water. I laid back against the back of the canoe and watched my little part of the world wake up. It was one of the most exhilarating experience I've lived. Many, many times when I'm stressed, up set or angry, I can bring myself back to that canoe ride. That very same day I put a lack on my back and did a day up up one of my favorite Mountain peaks. As a matter fact I have a picture of a canoe hanging in front of my bed so I can see it's the first thing I see when I wake up. I miss water skiing, snow skiing, cross country skiing swimming, sailing, swimming, boating, camping, hiking. I have more stories if anybody is interested. [QUAD-L] syrinx
I know we've discussed about syrinx before but I have some questions for you. I'll tell you whats going on. My oldest grandchild, Samantha was diagnosed 3 yrs. ago with a syrinx in her spinal canal at the C6 level, she was 12yrs old. That first yr she had no problems then last yr she started having double vision blurry vision. The Dr's said she had a pseuodo tumor pressing on her optic nerves behind her eyes. They said there was no tumor but her body thought it was a tumor caused by the syrinx. Last yr. the Dr's took her to surgery to put in a Shunt at the base of her brain which drains down into her abdomen just above her bladder. They put a magnetic dial under the skin just below her right rib cage. With this dial they can regulate the amount of spinal fluid from the shunt. She has a lot of nausea headaches. Now her double vision cleared up but she still has blurry vision. Sam is now 14 has a positive attitude. Then Friday morning she woke up feeling tingling numbness in her legs. Her parents, my Son Daughter In-law took her back to Chicago to her Dr's. They admitted her giving her physical therapy teaching her how to walk with a walker. My questions for those of you that have a syrinx did you get the syrinx after your spinal injury? Did anyone become paralyzed because of the syrinx? Has anyone had their syrinx drained? Sam's Drs said her syrinx had increased in size she has lost too much weight which caused her dial to dislodge. All that she has to go through makes me sick. Lindaf

Woke up overheated which sometimes causes a claustrophobic / panic feeling. I felt panicked and like I could not get enough of a breath. I also felt like I was going to get sick. I thought maybe a UTI or something. They were worried about my heavy chest, so I had an x-ray, CAT scan, which lead to an angioplasty. Luckily everything came out fine. They think my heavy chest is from my spine curving causing pressure. So they are setting up an appointment with a lung doctor soon. I did have a UTI also. But I get so frustrated with this stupid panic feeling. I worry about everything and can't stop. I worry about that I'm going to worry. Wake up feeling like I just have to get up into my chair. It's a scary panic. It use to happen maybe once every few years, but lately it's more often. I think it's my heavy chest making it worse. I just don't feel like I'm getting enough oxygen. The doc says the lung doc might subscribe an oxygen tank at night. Once the feeling is one, I feel so stupid about worrying about that stuff. Getting overheated seems to be the trigger point most of the time. The problem is I feel so cold at night, even shivering. I would swear I'm cold… But if I uncover a bit and cool off, I actually get better. So I swear I'm cold, but actually I'm too hot. This only started a few years ago. Anyone else have that issue? I'm sure it's a nerve ending issue. But I just shake I feel so cold, problem is sometimes it is because I'm cold. So anything I do to get warmer only makes me shiver more and get more overheated. So I just don't know if I'm hot or cold, it feels exactly the same. No fun getting old, Greg

For some reason I was being punished for something I did and my form of punishment was to be executed in an electric chair - LOL. I was all strapped into the chair and the lever was pulled to start the process of building up the electricity. My executioner asked if I had any last words and I said No more pain, I'll have no more pain. No more pain, no more pain, I'll have no more pain. I just kept repeating it over and over and when I woke up in the middle of the night and started to cry because the reason I woke up was because my pain was so bad and I wished my dream was real.
