Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] dropping connection after firmware update

2010-05-27 Thread Siduhe

For what it's worth, I have been running 7.5.1-r8805 for three days now
and haven't had a single instance of the Radio dropping its connection.
Bear in mind my issue was slightly different from what the majority
have reported here - the Radio was regularly failing to reconnect
following WOL at the server, but that issue (so far) appears to be
fixed for me with the new firmware.

Will add to the bug report.

How do you know for sure that the router wasn't the problem to begin

There is a strong chance it could be router related, as I first roled

Was only when I made the router adjustments did I get consistency
(combined with 7.4.2.)

Thing is, now that its working (and it still is after 2 days) I cant
really be ar$ed to check if these router settings work under 7.5

Its not broken so why fix it? ;-)

I will wait until I see some happy customers on the forum with 7.5.1 ++

Not a bad idea GrahamD.

Logitech really doesn't care about us.

This may be a real stretch but what if they really don't care about the
SBR because it's a product they plan on discontinuing shortly? They seem
to be concentrating all their efforts on other SB products and leaving
us out in the cold.

My inbox this morning had an email with the subject Logitech wants your
honest opinion. The body said:

At Logitech, we're always striving to improve our products, so we'd
like to hear what you think about your Logitech® Squeezebox Radio.

Tell us what you like and what we can improve. Be honest. What you
think is directly linked to what we do and how we can improve. (And it
will only take two minutes!)

We realize you had a choice. Thanks for choosing Logitech!
---
There were 3 questions; what can we do to improve the radio, and what
do you like about it. The third was a scale from would not recommend
to would recommend to someone else, though I can't remember their
exact words. I gave it the lowest on that scale based on my experience.
I wouldn't wish this internet radio on anyone as it is right now. As for
improvements, I said STABILITY!! Then described how unusable the radio
was until I set up my Mac Mini as a Squeezebox Server. Not a
consumer-friendly alternative, though it gives me what I thought I'd
purchased when I bought the radio. On its own, it shuts off repeatedly,
forgets presets, and on-and-on. It's a disgrace to Logitech at this
point.

My radio does not ask for updates from 7.4.2 if it's running off of my
server (also 7.4.2). It just plays and plays. If I switch to
squeezebox.com, I believe it does ask, but if I quickly hit a preset,
the request is dismissed. I try to stay away from their server.

Based on the responses I've received from the support team they don't
think they have a problem. Whether that's just the public line or
 reality, I don't know.

Here's why they should fix the problem:

There are prospective customers (such as me) who have been researching
the Squeezebox radio, and who think it sounds fantastic except for two
things: lack of battery (apparently in the process of being rectified)
and the firmware situation.

I have been checking both the Amazon reviews and this forum every few
days, waiting to see that both of these problems have been resolved,
and when that happens, I plan to place an order for two of them, one
for me and one for my wife.

I would really love to have one of these things, because 95% of my
music listening these days is to internet streams (radio or Pandora
mostly) and I don't like having to sit in front of my computer all the
time. I'd love to be able to carry the music around the house with me.
But I'm not pulling the trigger until I know I won't get a buggy
product (and I want a battery pack too, for the above-mentioned
portability).

I seriously doubt that I'm the only one in this position. Logitech
should absolutely fix this issue ASAP.

(And yes, I did actually go to the trouble of creating a forum account
so I could post this. I hope someone from Logitech reads it.)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] dropping connection after firmware update

2010-05-12 Thread diannabill

Just bought a SB Radio TODAY!!! Had to buy 2 before I got one to work
right.

Radio #1: Was forced immediately to upgrade to 7.5 on initial setup.
First attempt to download had an error, so I did it again,
successfully.

Then downloaded installed the SB Server on my computer, loaded a few
apps, programmed a few presets and thought I was good to go. At one
point, station stopped, and clock screen appeared. Then strange things
started happening with my menu. Couldn't find My music anymore (even
tho I was connected to the server). Also Presets started disappearing.

Took that radio back and got a new one. But before I did anything, I
found this forum and decided I didn't want to upgrade to 7.5. I tried
all the tricks mentioned to not upgrade and get out of the upgrade
screen, but was locked on that screen until I finally gave up and did
it.

What I did next was uninstall the SB Server, click on the link in an
earlier post in this thread for 7.4.2 of the SB Server and
downloaded/installed that. Then I turned on the radio and it pretty
quickly told me to download the 7.4.2 software, which I happily did.
Working fine now.

When I switch over to mysqueezebox.com though I get the prompt to
upgrade back to 7.5. Luckily I'm able to ignore that and push menu or
one of the presets and the disappears and the radio acts fine.

But most of the time I'll be on the SB server since I stream my mp3
files from a computer that's on 24/7.

Am I fixed? I sure hope so. Thanks to everyone in this thread for all
the advice. (If I'd have read it before I bought the radio though, I
probably wouldn't have!). I'll definitely do some research here before
I voluntarily upgrade again.

I think the problem is that playing radio stream can stop from time to
time (main problem) then when it arrives during alarm I get, of course,
the back up alarm.

So, why radio stream stop to play ?? mySB.com problems ? It is possible
as we know that problems have occured before. The SBRadio uses a
different protocol to communicate with mySB.com.
We can see posts about this problem in this forum.

This evening, the screen during listening was not the one I have
defined (lecture en cours = now playing???) it was the grey screen with
time and date...

I don't think we can do anything

I have reset factory my SBRadio and not connect it to my NAS (because of
alarm problem). My NAS is off. But when playing radio my SBRadio stops
playing music again#8230;

I think the problem is that my SBRadio « stop » playing radio stream :

If it occurs during the alarm I have the back up alarm
If it occurs when not playing alarm then the sound stops, on the screen
I can only see the name of the radio or goes back to the clock display
on its own...

The wifi icon stays white.
If I listen to the same radio at the same time with my SBBoom or
another brand of wifi radio : theses sets don#8217;t stop playing the
radio stream.
I have noticed it is from the 7.5 version.
The SBRadio stops #8220;from time to time#8221;, I didn#8217;t
notice something special

Is it a bug ? Or is it a mySB.com problem as SBRadio and SBBoom are
managed differently.

Thanks, Kelly! This procedure appears to have worked for me. No
disconnects in a 24 hour period since performing the above steps. I
have 2 Squeezebox Radios and they're both now stable.

It didn't work. The firmware remains as the latest version. I'm not
sure if it won't roll back because I previously reinstalled the new
firmware numerous times in an attempt to fix the problem, but I tried
at least 15 times to roll back to 7.4 it never happens. Here's what I
did:

Press/hold power until it completely shuts off, then press/hold rewind
and at the same time press power until it restarts.

I am certain there is absolutely no problem with the router.

Will restoring factory defaults reset the firmware to the version that
was shipped with the radio?

2010-05-02 Thread K8MCN

Spent about an hour on the phone with Logitech--got lucky--connected to
a very nice, ENGLISH speaking gal in Nova Scotia.

Spent a lot of time trouble shooting, and she did admit there is a
glitch in the new 7.5 software.
here is how we fixed it, hopefully, as I have been
connected without a drop of connectivity for quite a while.

unplug squeeze box
hook up an Ethernet cable---do not do wireless yet
plug in and hold down on the + button--will cause a factory reset.
go to settings, advanced, software update, reinstall the software, the
box should reboot after the successful install.
unplug squeezebox, do a reset of your router (for some reason part of
the glitch is a partial memory recall in the box of your password for
the router)
power on the router
power on the squeezebox (wireless now--no Ethernet cable)
go to settings and setup your wireless network(find the router, enter
password etc.

in my case it connected to the router and it is working fine--

hope this helps and keep your fingers crossedpost
and let me know and i will keep an update on my success

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] dropping connection after firmware update

2010-04-30 Thread Carole

Well, well...my new SBR is holding the connection just fine now! I
received my SBR about 3 weeks ago. Used it about a week and it held the
connection all the time. Then I installed the server software and
immediately started dropping the connection frequently. At first the
disconnects happened sporadically, then it was all the time (about 2-3
times/hour). Thinking through the start of the disconnects, I realized
it started with installing the server software. So I uninstalled it,
meaning to reinstall it later. That was 3 days ago. My radio has
disconnected about once/24 hours of continuous play. That is 3 times in
3 days. Now, why do I need the server software if my SBR is working just
fine? Not planning to use the software in the future. Anyone else tried
this with the same good results?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] dropping connection after firmware update

2010-04-29 Thread mpower9

Logitech has opened a new bug for this problem. If you have previously
voted for bug 16046, this bug has been closed. Evidently two (or more
bugs got mixed into this one and the techs believe that they have cured
one of them and have opened a new bug for the rest.)

If you are having trouble with sudden stopping of your station since
the 7.5 upgrade, please go to
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16170 and vote for Bug
16170 so that the Logitechs will turn their attention to this on-going
problem. The more specific you can be in your description of the
circumstances when this manifestation occurs, the easier it will be for
them to isolate the problem and cure it.

Those of you who are techie enough to download logs showing the
activity at the time the station turns itself off could be very useful
by posting the logs on the bugzilla site.

Thank you. With your help we will get our dear little radios up and
going reliably.

Radio plays MUCH better with FW 7.4.2, only stops once in a while versus
every couple of hours with 7.5. Now tho, keep getting constant
reminders to upgrade to 7.5. What a pain! Also increased buffer from 3
to 6 as suggested by someone in another thread, but still had one
stoppage yesterday - all of a sudden it's quiet, I look over and the
clock face is showing on the radio.
I'm mainly listening to internet radio using presets and also Pandora,
slacker and others through mysb.com.

I hope someone's working on a fix - on Bugzilla it looks as if they
think this problem has been resolved!

lock up frequently, stop playing music after a couple hours, and must
be re-booted many times throughout a given day. I find it unacceptable

I have been having the stop-play back to clock problem. I use only
mysqueezebox.com so there are no complications from squeezebox server
or my computer. On Tuesday I was listening to C-SPAN Radio most of the
day. It did not drop the connection at all during that time. Today it
pulled that stunt twice, once with Vermont Public Radio and once with
C-SPAN Radio and at a time of day that usually works just fine.

Although I had station's sound stop from time to time before the latest
FW update, the now playing image would stay on. Now when the sound
stops, the clock pops up, just as though I had turned it off manually.

I just noticed the same issue today. I don't too often listen to my

it shuts off after about an hour.

I also am having an issue where I set the sleep timer to 60 or 90

(which is the setting I use when the Squeezebox is playing), but it's
not playing anything and the clock isn't showing either. It's like in
some kind of limbo where it's not playing, but not off.

Seems like this last update brought more problems than solutions.

This thing has taken a mind of it's own.

Seven hours after it last just stopped playing I heard some noise in
the office and go in to notice the SB Radio playing again. Same
internet stream it was playing.

Weird.

I feel for whoever is in charge of figuring this thing out...their work
is cut out.

Problems with 7.5.0 r8673. Ever since I loaded this last week, I
experience similar problems (just goes to the main screen and displays
time, sound will turn down by itself) as everyone else. My use of the
Squeezebox is very basic, I listen to internet radio stations and I use
it for Pandora, that's it. Although, the alarm function now works...

I'm having the same problem on my Radios since 7.5 and I always run on

Before 7.5, the Radios would auto-reboot when playing Sirius.

After 7.5, the Radios will play a while then stop playing and show the

 Logitech response:
Thank you for the response. For your concern on the server, I do advise
to go back to the 7.4.2 version due to the 7.5 is for the Squeezebox
 Touch.
You can download the software from the link below:

 http://downloads.slimdevices.com/SqueezeboxServer_v7.4.2/

Once you have installed the 7.4.2 version again on your computer the
Radio should automatically update to 7.4.2 firmware.

If the problem still persist please let me know to further advise on
 the situation.

And if I only use mysqueezebox.com. I'm supposed to install sbserver on
my computer just so I can roll-back to 7.4.2? Why can't Logitech just
give us an option on the Radio to install a prior version of the FW?

Looks like they really rushed 7.5.0 out the door without proper
testing. I can't believe how buggy this version is.

Huge problems with Slacker and Pandora. My SB Radio either stops or
freezes, (with no response to any controls, requiring a re-boot). I
have 4 SB Radio's, all have this problem.
In 2 hours this morning, I've have to re-boot 3 times. This is
unacceptable.

I've been using the SB Radio since December. These problems only
occurred after the 7.5.0 FW update.

Big mistake not giving us an option ON THE RADIO to roll-back to a
prior FW version (and no, I will not install SB Server for the sole
purpose of fooling the SB Radio to roll-back to 7.4.2)

I would suspect that it is a very easy update to the 7.5 fw add the
ability for us to get back to 7.4.2

Can't speak to the radio, but there is no inherent problem with 7.5 for
Boom Duet. Works perfectly with Pandora, internet radio streams, and
my own music on my own windows XP setup and with mysb.com.

I haven't read all your postings, but have you specifically listed your
operating system, whether you are running wireless, wired, or a hybrid,
whether you are on SbS or mysb.com, etc. Some details would help other
forum users to help diagnose your issue. Keep in mind that these forums
are NOT logitech support. They are simply users helping users. And
without more detail, folks can't help you. Don't assume that 7.5 is
broken and logitech is working behind the scenes to fix it. It appears
that 7.5 works pretty well for most people. Obviously, the thousands of
people with no problems don't post here! Again, more details on your
setup and people here can help diagnose issues.

My radio wasn't working perfectly but it wasn't exhibiting the weird

etc) until after it updated the firmware to 7.5 last week.

I haven't changed any settings on the radio since I set it up on my

I do plan on communicating this to the Logitech support people when I'm

Often these sorts of problems are a function of the DCHP/IP address
 being screwed up, etc.

Tried that a few times, does not fix the constant freezing of the

And in your case, in the meantime, you might try turning everything off
(including your MODEM and ROUTER). Then turn everything back on,
starting with the modem and router. Let that fully boot, and THEN turn
on (plug in) your Radio and let it find the wireless network, etc.
Often these sorts of problems are a function of the DCHP/IP address
 being screwed up, etc.

I posted a thread during the beta phase and subsequently on a similar
topic - I don't have freezes with the radio but it does drop connection
fairly regularly when I have WOL enabled on my server. If the WOL
packet is sent from the Radio to wake up the server, it reconnects
fine. However, if the WOL packet is sent from a different device, the
Radio sometimes does not reconnect. I have static IPs set up for all
my devices. My next troubleshooting step is to change routers and see
if the problems reoccur.

7.5 does not work well for many people. And since our problems started
the day that we d/l'd 7.5.0, then its a pretty safe assumption that 7.5
is broken. Now, if Logitech had given us an option ON THE RADIO to
roll-back to the prior version, then we wouldn't have to make
 assumptions.
There is one potential flaw in your reasoning. You're running your SB
Radio on MySB. At the same time 7.5.0 was released, MySB was most
likely upgraded to support the SB Touch. Since there has been various
problems with MySB for the different Squeezeboxes since that happened I
do not think it's a safe assumption that the problems are caused by
anything you installed in your equipment, it might just as well be a
server side problem in which case rolling back to 7.4,2 wouldn't help
(if it would work at all with MySB).

I think Logitech deserves some slack and not criticism. The have given
us some awesome players and don't you think that anytime some new
software is released to the masses that some tweaking is necessary? I
think we should be patient with some issues that we may see here. They
will get it fixed in due time and we'll all be happy. They monitor
these forums, they act on the reported bugs. I have my Touch and I have
faith that it'll be rock solid in due time. Let's be positive about this
latest release. It will get better daily, I am sure.
