True. Of course there is another way.
SeaMonkey uses mbox format to the

mail folder is just one big text file. Your can search and
  cutout the

base64 encoded image out of the message. If sone this in the
  past to fix

corrupted mail accounts. I made perl scripts that deconstruct
  mbox file

into individual eml files, then I could tweak afflicted
  emails, and then

reconstruct eml files back into the mbox file.

Wouldn't that be huge in a text editor if the images like MB
big?

Well EditPad Pro can handle that:

"EditPad Pro 7 can edit files that are larger than 2 GB, even on a
32-bit PC with less than 2 GB of RAM. The (theoretical) maximum
sizes are now 9 billion GB (263 bytes) per file, 2 billion lines
per file, and 2 billion bytes per line. In practice, on a modern
PC, EditPad Pro 7 performs well with files well over 10 GB,
millions of lines, and up to 100,000 characters per line."

As one who has used Edit Pad Pro for many years,
  I'd be lost without it.

I upgraded to WIN 10 in September. Configured it to show GUI as in the past.
Program icons that looked like they did on 7 and XP with no problems. I run
only programs that were designed for the 'home COMPUTER' not I-xxx's and
Androids. For 'APPS' I use my i-Phone and/or i-Pad. Not my COMPUTER.

So what do you need, a COMPUTER or an APP machine? You make the decision.

I too played with 2.35 and 2.36 (54) without problems, but just in case there
may be problems that did not affect what I do, I'm back here on 2.33.1.

An apparently all my add-ons worked. I manually changed some of them to work
with all versions of 2.*

IMHO most of the issues that you see regarding IE vs SM is not in the SM's
software. It is in the HTML of the pages that do not work or do not display
properly in SM whilst they do work or display properly in IE.

When you find a page that works in IE but not SM, check it out at
https://validator-suite.w3.org/

If the validator shows errors, the problem you have with SM is NOT SM -
it is the coding of that page.

Contact the webmaster of that page and inform him (not that it will do and
good).

Got ya by 5 years. (82). I started with plain old unix commands on the network.
Then using Pro-comm and Pro-comm+ with DOS. Some Mosaic - then on to Netscape
and when it went bye-bye, SeaMonkey. Been here ever since. On Windows with the
desktop and Linux on the two laptops. And I agree with all your comments.

True, but I've gotten a couple where there are two completely different texts
about different subject matter. One in plain text and the other in HTML. Not
knowing that the e-mail was Multipart without reading the headers, I lost one or
the other text.

The sender expected me to know it was multipart. I had no inkling until he
asked me why I did not reply to the part I didn't read. I naturally told him
that I didn't get the e-mail. And then he explained.

If this is going to be the 'new' think in e-mail the e-mail programs should
start signifying that a msg is multipart.

Been on the internet forever and never thought to send something like that.

Multipart/Alternative e-mails

2015-03-25 Thread W3BNR
I recently received an e-mail that was in two parts; one 'plain text' and the
other 'HTML'.

When viewing in HTML I saw one part and when viewing in plaint text I saw the
other part.

Message type in header was:
"Content-type: multipart/alternative;
 boundary="Boundary_(ID_cKOPk/6CliG/Ro7OFuUArg)"

I would not have known that this was a two part message except that, for one
reason or another, I happened to look at the source. There is no indication of
multipart in the Mail display.

Is there any way of knowing beforehand that e-mail is multipart?

1TB USB drives are available for under $100 at most stores in the US.
Windows provides back-up function along with disk image software. More is
available for free if you search the internet. Small investment to save
many hours of re-creating (if possible) what you have lost.

I create system images once a month. Do a backup of all data and other files I
have created once a week. And a daily backup of just data and files that I
created that day. I use Windows, Dell, my own BAT files and a free program,
"PureSync" to do these backups on external drives and thumb drives.

SeaMonkey + Mozilla files on my Windows 7 with SM 2.31:

ProgramFiles(X86)\MozillaFirefox 0 bytes
ProgramFiles(x86)\Mozbackup308KB
ProgramFiles(x86)\Seamonkey73.2MB
User\X\AppData\Local\Mozilla 7.26MB
User\X\AppData\Roaming\Mozbackup 7.26MB
User\X\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla 180MB

Looks like SeaMonkey takes up approximately 268.028MB not including cache.
My cache files are in a separate directory C:\Seamonkey2\ and ALL files in that
directory are deleted daily.

Updated on my laptop - Linux Mint 16 Petra 32bit - it crashed and crashed no
matter if I chose "Quit SeaMonkey" or "Restart SeaMonkey". Will have to reload
2.30 or use TB and FF.

When you installed Foxit Reader did you have "Select plugin used to open
PDF files in browser" checked? I think that's a default check, but I
could be wrong.

And the other ones during the installation of "Set Foxit Reader as the
default viewer" and "Show PDF files in browser".

Now I'm out of ideas.

Ok - my reply was directed at Ed Mullen's comments, but I think your
problem was already addressed. I agree, HTML exporting and importing
really sucks. And unfortunately exporting and importing with .json has
been removed.

Best thing to do is to go to your profile directory and copy
places.sqlite to a removable gadget and copy from there to your other
computer's profile directory replacing the places.sqlite file there.

It doesn't take long to run a small batch file in Windows to backup
what's important to YOU. Or even use a program like "PureSync" which is
free to home users (donation requested by author). A simple batch file
like the following will do the job (only two lines required):

copy C:\Users\X\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\default\*.*
X:\SeaMonkey\MozBackup\Profiles
cd:c\

Where X = thumbnail, CD, DVD, or external disk drive.

Create the file with an ascii editor line Notepad, save, change name
from X.txt to X.BAT and move it to desktop.

Double click the icon after shutting down SM and viola - in less than 15
seconds the job is done!

I wonder what wysiwyg conposer they used for the site. It is badly
designed and a verification at W3C shows 10 errors in HLTM5. That means
it probably will work in M$IE. I don't use IE so I can't check out my

Hmm. I don't believe I said anything about the reliability of v 2.30.
The problem was with 2.29.1 and using 'help/check for updates' which may
not even be a 2.29.1 problem.

So far all seems good with 2.30. All my plugins are still working.

Running Linux Mint Qiana Ver 17 and the repsitories do not have either
SeaMonkey or Adobe Flash listed in the search. So they have both been
loaded and installed per instructions to no avail. Moving the
libflashplayer.so to where it should be and other places which seemed
like likely possibilities provided no solution to the problem Perhaps I
should go back to Mint 13 where it everything worked.

As I said - I don't really need flash video anyhow.

Going to nbc.com and clicking on a video I get a message:
"Requested Format Not Available
None of the requested formats are available for this content."

I have no add-on or plugin for either Flash nor Quicktime.
A "search" for add-ons gives no results.

Running SM 2.29 on my laptop with Linux Mint 17 XFE.

Linux SM Question

2014-09-12 Thread W3BNR
I installed Linux Mint 17 on a laptop last week and went to import my
password file from my Winows7 desktop.

It was then that I found out that the Linux version of SM 2.29 does not
have an option to "Import" OR "Export" Passwords. Only option is
Password Manager.

Any sugestions? Or does anyone know if there are plans to incorporate
the function in the Linux version?

Apparently a different format. I have kept my cache files in a
directory named C:\Seamonkey2 which were in SM's Cache files. Now the
entry created by SM is cache2 but still in c:\Seamonkey2 as I directed.

I noticed that there is no mention of this change in the release notes.
This should be considered a 'major change' but is not noted. But then
again perhaps I'm wrong in my assumption of a 'different format'.

It appears that if you sort first on the e-mail address column the name
column will then sort properly. If you sort first on the name, it does
not work properly.

Further investigation shows that the problem also exists in 2.29.b2.
Problem is not there in 2.2.b1.
Running Windows 7 (62bit) up-to-date.
Perhaps a change in some e-mail security patch causing the problem.
I do NOT use a "Master Password" on any system.

Well, I guess I could say because I don't want to.
Besides Windows for making the system image, I use PureSync which has
all the options I need and at times the sync option of PowerDesk.
It all depends on the what, how, and why I'm performing the backup.

I guess you could also ask why I waste any of this time when I could
install an external RAID drive or two. Problem solved. No operator
intervention required.

Interesting - tried a number of times and experimented with other e-mail
that had more than one address and the 'reply all' function only brought
up a compose box to the sender of the e-mail.

I closed SM and restarted it and things are normal(?). It now brings up
the compose box with all addressees and the sender in "TO" boxes.

Aren't computers wonderful?

And to continue where I left off (must have erased it before I sent the
previous post - see thread "Ignore Please")

When you use the 'Backup' option SM creates a file
BookMarks-(Date).json. and allows you to save it where you want. If you
forgot where you saved it. Just search for book?.json ignoring the ones
in /xx/x/x/Roaming/Mozilla. The 'Restore' function takes any
bookmark-(date).json file and re-writes your bookmark file.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium edition, completely up to date.
Just tried again with same results as stated above. No luck in trying
to save it to the "Local Folders/Sent" directory but saving to the
W3BNR/Sent folder does work. The problem started in SM 2.24 or 2.25.
not sure which.

As another observation - if I save the message before sending to the
"Local Folders/Drafts" or "Local Folders/Templates" there is no problem.
It's saved.

And a test with my laptop which runs Linux Mint "Maya" 64 bit along with
SM 2.25 I have no problem. The message *is* saved in the "Local
Folders/Sent".

I seen you're running SM2.23. If you have 'PrefBar' installed you can
easily create a button of its menu. Insturctions:

1. Right click anywhere on 'PrefBar' and select 'Customize PrefBar'.
2. Right click anywhere in the 'Available Items' box and select 'New'.
3. From drop-down menu select 'Checkbox'.
4. Fill in the 'Checkbox' form as follows:
a. Id:WebM
b. Label: WebM
c. toPrep:value
d. fromPrep: value
e. Hotkey:(disabled)
5. Click on 'Apply.

New 'Item Name' (WebM) should now appear in the left column.
Right click on it and move it to the left column ('enabled Items')
in what ever position you would like it to be displayed.

In the meantime - enjoy whatever is left of the "Polar Vortex". (:<

And middle clicking an entry in bookmarks with multiple bookmarks will
"open all".

Yes, Shift+Forward works. An undocumented feature(?). At least I can't
find it in the help file in any of the short-cut sections.

Thanks for the info.
