WE9.4 stops reading in Firefox reading washington post article

as I arrowed down reading the page, WE9.4 stopped talking and firefox 
stopped responding.


I restarted Firefox and retried

using the special page for screen readers:

As I got to the end of the article WE9.4 stopped talking and firefox 
stopped responding.

Is their something I can do to fix this problem?

Hi to all,
First of all, thanks to all  who sent the short cut to turn WE9.4 off;
however,  closing WE9.4 with the short cut given or with my kill WE9.4 
batch file, and then restarting WE9.4 gives me the same result.

WE9.4 still will not restart with control alt w.
The issue is that I believe WE9.4 becomes corrupt.
The symptom is that control alt w no longer restarts WE9.4.
When all is well, I can press control alt w many times and WE9.4 restarts.
When WE9.4 stops reading an excel file and control alt w does not work, 
I believe WE9.4 has become corrupt.
I also found that coming back from sleep, WE9.4 becomes corrupt and 
control alt w does not work.
I rebooted my computer then when WE9.4 started speaking I control alt w 
and We9.4 restarted.
I then put my computer to sleep and after awhile I woke the computer and 
control alt w did not work.

Something has become corrupt.
I no longer put my computer to sleep because I noticed things did not 
work correctly, and I believe that control alt w not working is proof 
that something has become corrupt.

Am I wrong?
Has anyone else found that putting the computer to sleep corrupts your 
WE9.4?

Control alt f WE9.4 goes silent, crashes keyboard, and crashes explorer in Thunderbird, I.E11, and Elite

Hi to all,
WE9.4 goes silent, crashes keyboard and sometimes mouse, crashes 
explorer when pressing control alt f in I.E. 11, Thunderbird, and Elite..

I have been able to reboot computer by doing the following:
1 unplugging keyboard and mouse and  and reattaching to usb port
2  restarting explorer.exe in task manager
3 closing all windows that are still responding
4 restarting the computer.
Houston we have a problem!

control alt f causing WE9.3 and WE9.4 to go silent

Hi,

WE9.4 is still going silent when pressing control alt f in the Elite 
program.
The first time the control alt w will bring speech back, but using 
control alt f again, the control alt w will not work, and restart did 
not give me an error report.
Is this another example where WE9.4 is queering the Elite for something 
and the Elite is not responding?
The  same silence was happening in I.E. 11 when using control alt 
f, but now WE9.4 is working fine.

Question On issue of WE9.3 hanging because waiting for it's query response,

In Scottrade Elite,
Why does this hanging occurs after several right clicks and arrowing?
Does this mean that the programmer only program to answer only 2 or 3 
query's?


The same with my Fritz 12 and chessbase 11.  I can do one game analysis 
and WE9.3 will read the result, but if I do another game analysis, WE9.3 
goes silent.

Does this mean that the programmer only program to answer only one query?
Will a WE9.3 update fix this issue?

I right clicked on one of the processes running within process explorer 
and arrowed up and got silence.

control alt w did not respond.
Now I have Firefox, internet explorer, fritz 12, chessbase 11, scottrade 
elite, and process explorer, where WE9.3 works for awhile but stops 
speaking after right click and arrowing,

Is this another example where WE9.3 is waiting for a response to a query?
How can we stop this crippling behavior from happening?
Can we stop WE9.3 from sending a query?

Possible solution to slow computer and crashes

Hi to all,
My computer was very slow today,
Using processor explorer, I found the culprit, and I googled the 
culprit, and below is copy of how to fix the problem.--

  copy:
"In Windows 7, when running audio or video player software, CPU usage 
will reach above 80% instantly. This phenomenon is caused by " 
audiodg.exe " process. Sometimes, high CPU usage by this  process might 
lead to fake crash. Here is a solution to this problem:


1. Right-click "Speakers" icon in the taskbar and then select "Playback 
devices"

2 . Under "Playback" tab, right-click "Speakers", and select "Properties".
3. Click on " Enhancements" tab under "Speakers Properties". Check " 
Disable all e enhancements " checkbox .




By the above steps, you could resolve the problem that " audiodg .exe" 
process hosts high CPU usage and prevent your machine from slow running 
and fake crash."

Sharing my specific problems to get feedback and perhaps someone can 
find the missing link to this problem.

copy of emails between tech support and myself:
WE9.3 stops talking with Firefox, I. E. 11, Fritz 12, Chessbase 11, and 
Scottrade Elite.
In the case of the Scottrade Elite, here is a copy of the technical 
problem, causing WE9.3 to stop speaking, as per tech support:


""I got your Window-Eyes process dump analyzed this morning. The issue, 
unfortunately, appears to be related to ScottTrade and UIA. Window-Eyes 
has queried ScottTrade for information  about the UIA element underneath 
the mouse pointer, and   ScottTrade never replies, leaving Window-Eyes 
hung,  waiting for a response."
I spoke to Bill Holden, who is having the same issue with the Elite, and 
he says that he does not lose speech when using Jaws.
He said that in jaws he has to manually change from one mouse to another 
when right clicking the mouse.

  I hope this info helps find a solution."..."


The fact that WE9.3 needs to ask a question This very confusing to me.
Why would a screen reader need to ask a question to a program, when it's 
function is to read the screen?
More importantly, are all the other programs where WE9.3 is losing 
speech being caused by the same problem?

I.e., WE9.3 is asking a question and the program is not responding?

Hi Linet,
I find that the best way for me to find my downloads is from the browser 
itself.

In firefox, I just press control j
and I arrow through the list of downloads.
When I find the file I want, I press the context key and select
open containing folder, and I just open it
or cut
and paste it to where I want the file to live.

Hi Brandon,
I am using Windows 7, and I just click on a link at Scottrade.com, and 
WE9.3 went silent.
Fortunately, I had sighted help, and tabbing around their was window 
with the message informing me that IE. has crashed and the OK is waiting 
to be pressed.
Once the OK was entered, WE9.3 started talking again.  If I had not had 
sighted help,
 and I could not get WE9.3 to talk  again, I would have had to reboot 
the computer.

checkbox that says, "Do this for all items".
3.  If you access the start button and select settings, although the 
screens within are mostly accessible, the mouse reading commands can 
get tripped up and are read out by Wineyes in either a nonsensical, or 
undesirable way. To experience for yourself what I'm talking about, do 
the following:

A.  Access the start menu.
B.  Press up arrow until you get to settings. Press enter on settings.
C.  Press right arrow once to move the cursor, and subsequently the 
focus to, the devices category and press enter.
D.  At this point, the category that should be automatically selected 
for you by default will more than likely be printers and scanners. 
That's fine.
E.  Now press tab four times, and you should arrive at some kind of 
checkbox regarding metered internet connections.
Wineyes doesn't read that checkbox properly when tabbing through the 
screen, and I can't get the mouse reading keys to get to that checkbox 
either! I am able to get the Wineyes mouse reading keys to let me 
access the first checkbox of this screen, so I know that it for 
example says, "Let Windows manage my default printer". The second 
checkbox on this screen however, is not reading properly at all.
4.  Last but not least, Window-eyes is giving me all kinds of problems 
when trying to do something as simple as write an email with 
Thunderbird! I'll be in the middle of composing a simple, old 
fashioned, plane text email, when suddenly and without any kind of 
warning, Window-eyes'll just start announcing my title bar as 
untitled, and not read anything in either the subject, or body fields 
of the message. I ensure that the window is maximized, makes no 
difference. I press Ctrl+alt+W to relaunch Window-eyes, which 
sometimes does, and sometimes doesn't make any difference. I've tried 
uninstalling the TB Enhance app, thinking that it might not have 
exactly kept pace with Mozilla's Thunderbird development team, but 
doing so also unfortunately made no discernible difference. I've had 
to re-launch Window-eyes literally no less than four times while 
composing this message alone!
What's up with all these little annoying problems I'm experiencing 
with regard to Windows 10 and Window-eyes 9.3.1? Is anybody else 
contending with stuff like this?

The best solution is to restore your computer to a point back in time 
when your computer was working correctly.

Here is how:
press window key

restore
arrow down to
restore your computer to an earlier  time and press
enter
click on next
then shift tab and press space bar to check show more restore points
then tab and arrow down and select a restore point with a date before 
your computer went bad.

then tab to next and follow the prompts.

Possible solution to WE9.3 upgrade problem--unblock in file property

When I uploaded the upgrade file for the second time the upgrade file, 
in properties, I noticed that the file was being blocked by default.  I 
unblocked and applied, and the installation was completed without a hitch.

WE9.3 gives error message that it can't be installed with the current installed version. What is the solution?

Hi,
The same problem here.
I was informed that I need WE8. something or better for this update to 
work, but after responding to several question, I  say no to Braille, 
and I get the message 9.3 can not be installed with the version of 
window eyes I have.

I uninstalled and installed 9.0 and hit the update with the same result.
Do I need to go back to WE8. something?
Or are we dealing with a bug?

It might be that you are using the WindowEyes cursor instead of the 
mouse cursor. Try clicking the minus sign on the numeric keypad and 
see if that makes a difference Also, I understand that Windows 8 and

as part of increasing security and efficiency..

uninstalled google chrome.


Bottom line, until WE9.2 is updated, we will have to live with WE9.2

I removed the desktop shortcut and from the start menu, I press context 
key on the program and press r for property

tab to shortcut and created a hot key,

I had gotten a blue screen of death and Who Crashed indicated that the 
crashed was caused by a WE9.2 dll.

contents on a machine a bit easier, but, other than that I can't really
complain to much about the over all experience.  I'd be interested to see
what observations others have about using windows 10 with win-eyes.  Having
been primarily a jaws user before, with limited access to window-eyes I'm

This might help- copy:
I'd like to share some info, which I have posted before, but is worth 
repeating,

with regards  to losing sound.
Firstly, with regards to the  ding sound which is generated by the 
windows operating

system.
I some times lose sound after hearing the ding sound.
This happens in explorer, Firefox, internet explorer, wordpad, notepad.
My solution:
I unplug the usb connection for my headset, and WE7.2 starts speaking 
via my external

speakers.  I then replug my usb headset and everything is back to normal.
In this case, windows lost sound to my headset, which is a known bug to 
all windows

operating systems.
Now, another known bug for all windows operating systems is that 
keyboard stops functioning.
I use a wireless keyboard, and when I lose sound, I hit windows key on 
my usb keyboard

and sometimes my sound is back.
In this case, my wireless keyboard stopped functioning.
Now, sometimes the usb keyboard is not responding either.
In this case, I unplug the usb keyboard and wait for a ding sound, and 
then I replug
the usb keyboard, and this sometimes does the trick, and keyboard is 
working again.

However, sometimes the lost of sound is caused by a WE7.2 crash.
In this case, I use a batch file to unload all three gwmicro programs, 
and restart

WE7.2, and I am back to normal.
Here is the instruction on how to create this batch file:

download pskill from:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896683
:
then copy and paste
pskill.exe
to
c:\windows
copy the following:
pskill wineyes.exe
pskill gwm32.exe
pskill speech32.exe
pskill bdisplay.exe
S
to a notepad document, and save it as:
kill_we.bat
then create a short-cut to the batch file and place it on the desktop.
then right click on the short-cut and press r for property
then tab to hot key and give it a hot key.
I use control alt k which stands for kill WE-- smile.

Having said all of this, this brings me to ask these questions. How can
speech suddenly stop and not generate an error report?  If no error 
report

is generated for Ai Squared engineers to look at, how can the problem of
sudden loss of speech be tracked down? If Ai Squared can find a way 
to fix

this problem, I'm all ears, smile.



This doesn't happen often, so I must admit I never thought I'd be one of
those list members mentioning this issue.  I guess this is one of those
moments where there's a first time for everything, smile. My primary
computer is a Dell Xps-8500 desktop running Outlook 2013 as well.

The only way to do it in Thunderbird is to marry someone with sight. (smile)
If that is to expensive, than, I would press the window key
and type your search words and press enter
If what you are looking does not show up, than you need to go into 
thunderbird

press alt t and enter on options
go to advance
then in general tab to let windows search thunderbird and place a check 
mark and tab to ok and you are good to go!

Hi to all,
In many programs WE9.2 will not read the screen with the numpad, and in  
many cases the only fix is to revert to a previous version.
For example, I am using firefox version 30.0 and the numpad reads the 
screen, but any version higher and you get a bing sound when reading the 
screen with the numpad.  The same holds true for Thunderbird.
I am using the current version of Thunderbird and WE9.2 gives me a bing 
when trying to read the screen with the numpad.
Someone had asked what version of thunderbird does WE9.2 read the screen 
with the numpad, but I have not come across the answer to that question.


If anyone knows, please post the answer.

Re: saving bookmarks when uninstalling firefox

Hi Charley,
You do not have to uninstall firefox.  If you are wanting to install an 
older version, just install the older version over the newer.
What I do when migrating to a new computer is to copy the firefox folder 
in the \appdata\roaming folder, then pasting it to the same folder in 
the new computer, and all my bookmarks and add on are migrated over to 
the new computer.
I do the same for thunderbird, and all my settings and email folders and 
accounts are instantly available.

Excel 2010 with several columns and 20 rows.

Setting it to read columns, I go down the row, then when I arrow right, 
I expect to hear the column header and all I hear is the cell address, 
a1 b1 c1 etc

How do I set we9.2 to read  read column and rows headers?
I already set it up using alt shift t, and picked column headings and 
pressed ok.

which is what I used (I miss typed)
However, the column headers are not being announced, after setting it to 
announce headers.

It just announces the cell address.Pressing arrow right will give b1 etc.

I start by being on cell a1 which  has the heading symbol.
one of the settings gives a1 to j41
which I tried, but did not work
I changed  the setting
a1 to j1 and set column headings only and still headings are not given 
just the cell a1 etcc

I guess I will call gwmicro tomorrow for help.

folder is not responding.  So then i hit alt f4 again
 and ig et stuff like wait for the program to respond button, close the
program button, etc.  so i press restart the program.  Then i hear
window-eyes do some progress beeps and it keeps saying progressing,
progressing, progressing, progressing, progressing, progressing.

So then i went back to my desktop, and pressed enter on my computer, and
i get the windows ding, and it said, the remote procedure failed and did
not exicute.  is there any way to fixt this without a reboot? It's
extremely annoying.  Why would this happen, when all i did is go back a
layer of folders.  It makes no sense.

Thanks for  responding.

But what good is it to have a multicore program when it does not have 
exclusive use of a core, and other programs take control of the 
processor and leaves the screen reader silent?
I think it would be better to lock a core or 2 for the exclusive use of 
WE9.2,

and thus increasing the probability that WE9.2 will not go silent.
As I mentioned, when my fritz is analyzing a chess game, WE9.2 goes 
silent until fritz finishes working which takes about 30 minutes..  If 
WE9.2 has a lock on a core, WE9.2 would not go silent.

Is there a way to set WE9.2  to have exclusive use of a core?

Thanks for posting, and I urge everyone with WE9.2 crashing or silence 
problem to post; so that this problem can be debugged.

Firstly all of the triggers mentioned by Curtis for causing WE9.2
to crash or go silent are also happening to me.  They are more frequent 
with windows 10 than with windows 7.

Also,   it usually it takes pressing a key twice to get things done.
to press a key twice to get it to respond.
For example, in Thunderbird for me to select an email from the inbox or 
to delete it, I need to press the key twice.
If I am reading an email and want to delete it, I need to press delete 
twice.

As I mentioned, when I have fritz using Houdini, and it is analyzing a 
game, it takes over the cpu and I can not do anything else because WE9.2 
goes silent.
However, if I set we9.2 to use one  core and Houdini to use the others, 
then I can do other things with my computer because

WE9.2 is able to speak.
My thought is that WE9.2 should  during installation instruct the 
operating system to give WE9.2 exclusive use of one core; thereby 
avoiding silence when other programs hog the cpu.

/C START Window-Eyes.exe 8 /high /affinity 1.
to the end of
first edit box in wineyes property did not do anything.
I even removed the 8 with no difference.

Nice writeup. Are you using CPU affinity on your environment? If so, 
how many cores do you have per processor? My general experience has 
been to only use CPU affinity for processors with six or more cores.

Hi,
Their seems to be a compatibility problem with I e 11 and WE9.2.
I did install all the factory set files, as suggested by a poster.
I tried using my a t and t uverse account on both windows 10 and windows 
7 WE9.2 after some tabbing around the website seems to make WE9.2 gag.
Sometimes WE9.2 starts talking again, but sometimes not, in which case I 
have to start all over.

Running IE 11 on Win 7 or 8.1 or win 10 seems to have this same issue.
When going to any random  web site I find myself not on the web page but
up in the header area of IE 11.  Sometimes you can tab your way back
down to the actual web page and sometimes tabbing just circles you
around in the IE header.
Is there any way of preventing this?  This issue has been around for
several WE versions with no improvement in WE 9.2.
Any help would be appreciated other than saying use another browser.

Why can't WE9.program be set with exclusive use of one core?

Hi,
It seems to me that what is needed is a screen reader with priority to 
do it's job.  For example, I have a program, Houdini, which is capable 
to use up to 8 or more (i think) cores for it's analysis of a chess 
game.  When this program is running it uses all 4 cores on my computer, 
and WE9.2 goes silent, because Houdini has priority.
Why can't you program WE9.2 to take exclusive use of one core of a 
multi-core system?

Same here,
WE9.2 seems to  get frazzled very easily.
I.e., it stops talking, and control alt w does not bring WE9.2 from the 
dead..

however,
I use my kill we batch file then control alt w will get WE9.2 talking again.
Yet, when We9.2 is back talking,
it is sometimes still not working correctly, and I just reboot.

rebooting
I have found that WE9.2, seems to get lost and disoriented.
I call this becoming corrupted, and just rebooting does the trick.
If after the reboot you still have the problem, then check the set file 
being associated with the start menu.

I would associate the explorer set to the start menu.

You are not alone.
I have encountered silence in firefox, wordpad, notepad, and thunderbird 
for no apparent reason.

Setting the set file if missing does not fix the problem.
Only a reboot does the trick.
This happens in windows 7 and 10.

OK so I have tried twice to install Windows 10 on my HP Envy laptop.  I have 
been unable to resolve the issue that file explorer is very sluggish and gets 
even more sluggish as times goes by.  If I do a restart the sluggishness gets 
better but again gets worse as I use the computer.
Doug at AiSquared has been working closely with me including remoting into my 
laptop and observed the problem first hand.  I contacted the Microsoft 
Accessibility hotline and although they indicated that they have had numerous 
callers about sluggishness in file explorer they had no solution.
The only last suggestion that Doug has is to do a clean install of Win
10 which means a lot of effort with the high possibility that it still won't 
work well.  AiSquared is aware of the overall lag issue in file explorer but 
not like in my case where it gets more sluggish as time goes by.
Is anyone else seeing this building sluggishness?
Again I thank Doug and all the staff at AiSquared for all their time and only 
wished a easy solution was at hand.

I also have WE9.2 losing sound with Fritz 12 and Scottrade Elite.
An interesting observation,
is that I lost sound in Elite, and I tabbed over to Thunderbird and 
closed it out.  When I tabbed back to Elite, WE9.2, started speaking.

When in advance settings in power settings, I pressed space bar to 
uncheck require password on wake-up, WE9.2 says unchecked but nothing 
changed: i.e., the boxed was still checked.  This was confirmed with 
sighted help.

Re: Window-Eyes 9.2 still crashing With Windows Explorer

Hi to all,
I have a dual boot between a new install of windows 10 and and a 
relatively new windows 7, and in both machine explorer and WE9.2 stop 
functioning very frequently.

The new windows 10 browser also causes WE9.2 to crash.
Just tabbing around several explorer windows causes

WE9.2 to stop speaking.  Several presses of control alt w will bring 
WE9.2 up and running again.
Someone on this list had recommended directory opus as a possible fix, 
and I installed it yesterday on my Windows 10, but I have not used it 
yet.  I will report back when I have used it for a few days.

I have a dual boot with windows 10 and windows 7 and I agree that WE9.2 
is sluggish, more so, in windows 10.

Also, if you are too fast, I find that WE9.2 crashes easily.

Larry,

Here's how to reload Browse mode enhance.
Open the Window-Eyes control panel.
Alt-A Apps.
You'll come in on App Management. Hit Enter, then P for App Manager.
That will land you in a list of running apps. Hit the letter B until
you're on Browse Mode Enhance.

The first time you do this Tab twice and make sure that the Show more
options checkbox is checked. This will reveal more button below it; one
of which is the Alt-R Reload button.
So once you've landed on Browse mode enhance in the list and Show More
Options is checked you can just hit Alt-R to reload it or any other app
you've selected.
You should hear, App reloaded, App running.
Press Escape twice to exit the control panel.

And if you want to make it real quick and easy you can set it as the
Fast reload app.
Follow the above procedure until you have Browse Mode Enhanced selected
in the list and then hit Alt-V for Advanced settings.
Tab to the Assign app button and activate it, or, just hit Alt-A.
You should hear Browse Mode Enhanced. That means it has been assigned to
the fast reload app.
Escape out of that dialog.
Now go to Hot keys, Miscellaneous, Reload app.
Set the scope to global or program as desired. Then assign a key or
combination to reload the app.
And finally, don't forget to hit Control-S to save your settings.

Hi,
I use an amd chip on my laptop, and intel quad core on my desktop, and I 
don't see any difference.

The problem I find is using WE9.1 with specific programs.

I also recommend getting your computer from a store, like Costco, that 
will return your money for any reason.
