[1] I use boundary=census. If it weren't already in such wide use, I would've gone with the more generic-sounding boundary=statistical, but whatever. Another mapper in Ohio prefers to delete the boundary and admin_level tags but leave place=locality in place. [2] IMO the important thing is to remove the misleading administrative tags. The TIGERcnl import apparently only brought in CDPs, but the Census defines a whole hierarchy of areas, including metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs), census county divisions (CCDs), and census tracts. [3] If we ever attempted to map them, boundary=census and boundary=statistical would be equally ambiguous and a tag similar to admin_level would be required. However, there doesn't seem to have been much demand for including these other Census features in OSM. (For that matter, if TIGERcnl had left out CDPs, I would've preferred to seem them mapped as POIs at centroids rather than as areas. Even where the CDP name is widely used, the boundary is less clear-cut than a city limit.) Re: [OSM-talk-nl] Key:public_transport:version
Re: [OSM-talk-nl] URL of Website
Hi, 2015-01-08 4:44 GMT+01:00 Stephan Knauss o...@stephans-server.de: For OSM it would be much more convenient when the license says You are allowed to use the OSM data, but when you change it you give OSM the right to merge back your changes if they want to. As far as I understand it, it works that way - if data is publicly used, it has to be licensed under ODbL. Probably we should adjust the license one more time before too much incompatible data is being imported. And I'm asking for stricter regulations considering imports. Data not compatible with future license changes must not be imported at all. Other mappers are building their changes on a weak foundation. Mappers will import as much as they can (caring for their neighbourhood's presence), and when in doubt will import until they can - we've seen this already. And who's gonna tell you what the future licenses are? ODbL is not perfect, but it's CTs that made things more messy, especially they have changed over time (funny thing, huh? do you know which data is under which CTs?). And they make sure that you have the right to authorize OSMF to use and distribute those Contents under our current licence terms, and then OSMF may only use or sub-license Your Contents as part of a database and only under the terms of one or more of the following licences: ODbL 1.0 for the database and DbCL 1.0 for the individual contents of the database; CC-BY-SA 2.0; or such other free and open licence (for example, http://www.opendefinition.org/okd/) as may from time to time be chosen by a vote of the OSMF membership and approved by at least a 2/3 majority vote of active contributors. So you give OSMF right to change the license for data you were able to import under (currently) ODbL, even though you may not be entitled to grant them this right (if you're importing something). So it's just one big bag of data with messy licensing hardcoded in. I doubt you will succeed in any actions you've stated above.
Re: [Talk-it] loc_ref a Milano
[Talk-us] Denver Area Relation Assistance
Good Morning OSMers, A Telenav data integrity check picked up geometry issues associated with the Denver International Airport Route relation. We found that the culprit was the following changesets: * http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/27705328 * http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/27713462 I contacted the user who said essentially said the changesets were committed accidentally and didn't know how to reverse them. In any case, I reverted the deletions by creating _new_ OSM ways that are duplicates (tags geometries) of the ways that were deleted. The two ways are: *Denver International Airport (321010352, v1) *321010349, v1 These new ways (321010352, 321010349) are duplicates of ways that were part of the following relations: *Adams County (1411346) *Denver County (1411339) *Denver (253750) *Denver International Airport (112192) I went ahead and added the new ways to the Denver International Airport relation member list. However, I am not very confident on reconstructing the other boundary relations' member lists. That said, I am writing to ask if anyone can pitch in on fixing the other four relations. [Talk-GB] Land Registry Prices Paid 'Open Data'
Some doubts have been raised about whether this data is truly open, and a recent FOI request from Owen Boswarva further strengthens those doubts. See his blog post: http://mapgubbins.tumblr.com/post/107499166390/it-was-all-a-dream-land-registrys-price-paid . Robert Whittaker raised this on talk-legal in November, but I now think that the talk-gb community needs to be aware of this. Although the answers to both the Open Addresses project and Owen Boswarva say that the Postcode Address File was used for a large percentage of the data, I am rather sceptical: - The nature of asking something explicit in an FOI request is that the answer will necessarily be legally conservative. In other words the answer is likely to be yes even if only a minor part of the data is affected. - The actual quality of the Prices Paid data is not of a standard I would expect for data which has been 'PAFed'. There are numerous examples of completely erroneous postcodes for a district, postcodes referring to more than one street, and vice versa. All of these are elementary things to check when cleaning address data. However, I would suggest that we avoid using the Prices Paid data until the position is clearer. My personal usage has almost entirely been to add postcodes, and then purely on the basis that the Prices Paid had fewer encumbrances than the ONS data. I shall revert to ONS and other Open Data sources for enriching OSM addresses with postcode data, and review source tags where I can identify the postcodes from other sources. If anyone is willing to write to their MP or the Minister responsible for Open Data, Sir Frances Maude, all the better. Re: [OSM-legal-talk] OSM based GPS navigations and ODbl license of OSM data
Let's suppose you are using data from external source to estimate actual travel speed at various places. Then you are assigning travel speed to edges of road network obtained from OSM. Even if the travel speeds are kept in separate table, to use them in routing algorithm you need to define some relation between your data and OSM based network, probably some relation through Id of edges. In this case the travel speeds are in fact additional attribute of OSM network edges, even if you keep them in different database table. As far as I understand the ODbl license and community guidelines, I think this kind of relation creates derivative database, where you have Share- alike obligation (If you are using it publicly). It doesn’t necessarily mean, your traffic data will be imported directly to OSM. I think, It means you have to publish them under ODbl? Am I wrong? Re: [Talk-it] loc_ref a Milano
Metto loc_ref=-1 come indicato qui: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Agenzia_mobilit%C3%A0_ ambiente_territorio/AMAT_OSM_fase1 E se devo eliminare una way con loc_ref, lo posso fare o va fatta qualche altra operazione prima? grazie maxx ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Aguardo, obrigado. Re: [Talk-us] Should this be a dual carriageway?
From Bing I am wondering it is isn't a super two (limited access, two way road) which I think we've been tagging as highway=trunk. If there is actually a barrier in the middle that is not visible in Bing, then it should split into two separate one lane ways. Not sure I'd hang a motorway tag on it though as that requires a minimum of two lanes in each direction. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dmotorway Tod On Jan 8, 2015, at 10:36 AM, Richard Welty wrote: On 1/8/15 1:03 PM, Zontine, Chris -(p) wrote: While mapping a FIXME in the US this situation came up: WAY ID 8822153.
