[OSM-talk-be] [Announce] ANN: Plugin Cadastr e Français disponible pour Merkaartor
[OSM-legal-talk] Waiving attribution illegal in any country/-ies?
Hi, Previously I've been wanting a Public Domain(PD) map multilicensed under various PD licenses like CC0, WTFPL etc...but is this even possible? (waiving attribution requirement) From my little knowledge... in Australia you can't waive the attribution right. Hypothetically if there was a global PD project and alongside everyone else, some Australians joined the project, would everybody else in all other countries have to attribute Australians(by using the planet dump)? (I think and hope not) or is it just Australians that are at a disadvantage who have to attribute (to the best of their ability) the foreign to them contributors of all other countries? Niklas, Niklas Cholmkvist wrote: Previously I've been wanting a Public Domain(PD) map multilicensed under various PD licenses like CC0, WTFPL etc...but is this even possible? (waiving attribution requirement) The PD is not possible in your country is a canard that comes up every now and then. My suggestion is to ignore it as an irrelevant technicality. In many countries your right to be identified as the author of a work is inalienable (provided the work passes certain minimum requirements). This means that you cannot sell this right to someone completely (i.e. you cannot sell the fact that you are the author of the work). You can usually sell away most of the other rights that stem from copyright, i.e. you can sell an exclusive license to use your work to someone else, and from then on you can't even use your work yourself without asking them. But this is, in many countries, not possible with your right to attribution, i.e. the other person cannot buy from you your right to be named as the author. But that does not prevent you from granting others a perpetual non-retractable license to use your work without naming you as the author - which is something completely different! Thus, no problems with CC0, WTFPL etc. on that side. [OSM-legal-talk] We Are Changing The License missing relevant information
I just answered a user's question on how to accept the new contributor terms. I'll quote his statement here: ''How do we accept the new licence??'' JOSM sent me here but I cannot find a way to accept the licence. This is ''bad'' as I dont want my edits to be dropped. It's a valid issue: The page We Are Changing The License - http://www.osmfoundation.org/wiki/License/We_Are_Changing_The_License - advertises accepting the license, but does not mention how to do so. And a prominent link to it has been added to JOSM's startup page a while ago, so it will be the landing page for a lot of users unfamiliar with the license change. The page is part of the OSMF wiki, so I'm unable to update it. Can someone please add that information? Oh ... and while you are at it, why not update the (TODO: add more on what this means) section, too? SotM11 is planned to be arranged just after the FOSS4G conference. I do not believe it is an accident because Steve Coast and Mikel Maron are members of the FOSS4G Local Organizing Committee (http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2011_Denver_LOC). It can be a good idea if people can spend the whole week and take part in the both conferences. Or then somebody could have a speech in both conferences. Re: [OSM-talk] SotM11 will be held in Denver.
For SOTM10, having it coincide with FOSS4G - also in Spain - was considered but rejected for, iirc, that very reason: the idea of SOTM sharing the stage with the bigger (at least in numbers) FOSS4G did not appeal. The advantages of having the conference stand on its own outweighed the disadvantage of missing out on the additional attendee potential. I did not really fall for that argument back then and I am glad to see the conferences coincide this time. It will be a different conference from the European ones for that and other reasons. Indeed, that was exactly the reason why they didn't coincide in 2010. But then I heard quite a few people 'complain' that they had to go to Spain twice this year. A museum needs a tag to describe it's physicality such as building=*, maybe building:use=* I'm not sure wether that's a better approach you describe here. Of course it's a building - but also it's a museum. There are lot's of museums without being a building. Yes - you can use museum as a subtag everywhere, but to USE it you then have to deal with a search for a value rather than to search for a tag. IMHO that's a bad idea. Let's take the following entities: A museum showing old buildings arranged to villages from the far past (there are a lot of in Germany, but also in other countries). As that's not a building (it includes buildings, but not the ensemble of buildings form the museum, the whole area does), building:use=museum is wrong. area:use=museum - could be, so your idea was to use: area:use=museum tourism=yes If I want to have all tourism parts, I now could search for tourism=yes and parse all other tags for values perhaps useful to describe, why that entity could be relevant for tourists. Currently it's tagged as tourism=museum, and I'm fine with that, it allows me to fetch the kind of interest it has for tourism directly by that tag. Of course tourists are not the only group interested in museums. There is science as well as normal people living around. But even these groups would search for museums partly as tourism POIs often. If there are other indended uses, we can use additional tags, too: Tag a museum as entity of tourism, science, recreational place, leisure, garden, shop, artwork, historic place, ruins etc. - all of these could be correct for some museums around the world. We could it tag as shop, playground and museum - if we skip the hunt for the one and only set of primary tags. How should one know which tags are considered primary when parsing the OSM database? Re: [OSM-talk] SotM11 will be held in Denver.
Believe it or not (and I look forward to the conspiracy theories on 80n's mailing list) it's one very large coincidence. I originally pushed Denver (where I live) with some folks here for SOTM-US and Eric asked me to help with the FOSS4G bid for 2010. Both fell through. Then Hurricane and others took the SOTM-US bid and turned that in to a SOTM 2011 bid, and Eric did a ton of work on FOSS4G 2011 and both came through. Personally I have always thought there should be a strong separation between the conferences, and have advocated that in both camps. I'm super glad SOTM is coming to the US, there's huge potential here. Denver's a great place and it's my hope that SOTM '11 in Denver will help form a stronger community here. It can be a good idea if people can spend the whole week and take part in the both conferences. Or then somebody could have a speech in both conferences. [OSM-talk] Housenumber additions
Hi all, When I was walking through the streets of the very nice town of Aaltenhttp://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.9230926036835lon=6.58008098602295zoom=14(Netherlands) with my kids mapping I found an inconsistency where I could not find an answer to. The housenumber additions (suffixes) of Dutch houses are not consistent. Examples (where the suffixes must be in superscript): 14 i 14 1 5 a 5 A 76 II 76 2 As you can see both are the same in essence but officially one is correct and one isn't. You even see that people could not find the right suffix in the hardware shop and bought a i instead of a 1 (or vice versa) as superscript suffix. My point is how to map this correctly. For the moment I put the house number addition / suffix in the house number field but I am not sure how navigation systems and other data search engines index/search this data correctly and if uppercase vs lower case or 1 vs i makes a difference for them. I guess so. Is there any standard or coherency in this issue as I could not find an answer in the OSM wiki. Opspliting is 4 'groepjes' is snel gedaan.

2. Zu http://www.khtml.org/osm/v0.78/index.php generell: * Window Title World Map with Route planning würde ich khtml World Map nennen, um sich sichtbar abzugrenzen. Dann World Map with Route planningbody nochmals erwähnen. P.P.S. See the last changes in your area = Deaktiviert.

Hi all, I would agree with Gordon, it looks pretty much like an artifact left over after the NAD27-NAD83 conversion. These artifacts were corrected when the map were digitized but obviously not in this case. Sam, this does not happen across the country along the NTS border lines. You find edge match problems due to differences in time of aerial photography, aerial photography interpretation, and so on, but not the NAD27-NAD83 conversion. Re: [Talk-ca] Map Error
Cool, thanks :) I suspect that the data is also more current. I dout that better data is available, untill you get to the municipal level. I like the geobase data, primarly because it is in water basins. But i think quality is more important than ease of use. Do i need to make the shp files available? I'm thinking of posting the data to geocommons.org. cheers, sam On 10/25/10, Bob Dustan bob.dus...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Sam, I just updated the affected area using LIO WMS to trace from. Ahoj!
