[talk-ph] Reorganized Geofabrik download website
Hi guys, The folks over at Geofabrik have reorganized[1] their OSM data download website[2]. They now have nice individual pages for each location that they offer individual data for, instead of the directory listings for collections of such locations. This means that we now have a nice one-stop download page for the OSM Philippines data[3]. Hopefully this may prove more useful for re-users of the data. You can now point people who want OSM data for the Philippines to this page. This is the same data that we use to provide the OSMPH Garmin map. Cloudmade, a different company, also still provides their download website and it contains more detailed breakdowns of data for the Philippines[4] down to the province level and in various formats (including maps for TomTom, Garmin, and Navit--not sure if these are routable though). However, the data hasn't been updated since December 2011 so the breakdown may or may not be as useful depending on your needs. Enjoy! [OSM-talk] Updated Geofabrik Download Server
Hi, I've made some updates to the download server at download.geofabrik.de. You'll now get a map preview of the are you're downloading, and if you have a very slow internet connection you will value the fact that you can now expliticly download something like europe-130310.osm.pbf instead of always using -latest - that way you can be sure the file won't be removed from under your feet while you're downloading it. MD5 sums are now supported, as are regional daily diffs - it should now be very easy to keep an updated extract for your region of interest using just Osmosis and minimal daily downloads. The URLs have changed slightly but redirects are in place so that old links should still work: * leading /openstreetmap/ has gone * -latest introduced before file extension * underscores replaced by hyphens i.e. instead of /openstreetmap/europe/great_britain.osm.pbf it is now /europe/great-britain-latest.osm.pbf Bye Frederik -- Frederik Ramm ## eMail frede...@remote.org ## N49°00'09 E008°23'33 ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Re: [Talk-it] Problemi ricerca indirizzi OSM su Garmin
3. Changesets 14728422, 14729116, 14729165, 14741297 come 1. (ripristinati) 4.

___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Re: [Talk-it] Sparito il torrente Leogra in località Schio
[Talk-it] Strada interrotta
The data is not verifiable on the ground (well, I guess it theoretically is if you had appropriate measuring equipment, but still...) Since Colin is talking about the broadcasters, it is pretty easy to have appropriate equipment to verify the frequency... a TV or radio will do that. You can locate the source with a little more equipment, like a directional antenna, and some attenuation. You can get the owner and callsign from listening to the broadcast. Power levels are a little harder to determine remotely though. and probably changes somewhat frequently, making the data in OSM difficult to maintain properly. The local TV and radio stations in my area don't change frequency very often. Many of the radio stations have been on the same frequency and callsign for decades. TV frequencies changed recently due to new regulations, but before that they too were static for many decades. Even when you get into commercial radio the frequencies and callsigns don't change often. Changing a frequency on a radio repeater means changing all the users on that system, a task that isn't undertaken on a whim. Industry Canada assigns the frequencies to the users, and it is a bit of a bear to change frequency assignments. So I don't see the added benefit of having the data in OSM. It's one of those things where the data is of interest to some people and not others. I work in commercial radio, and I have thought about adding radio towers to the database, with frequency assignments etc. It would be very handy for my purposes. My employer might not like me posting all of our frequencies and tower locations though... Not really sure since Spectrum Direct allows people to look up the information anyway. It is always difficult to know what information is of benefit to the OSM database as that is a subjective judgement call. Addresses might be of little use to some users, yet they still are being added to the database. Does their inclusion benefit the database? What percentage of potential users need to require the data before it becomes a benefit? If the data is not included in the database, then potential users of the data won't look at the OSM dataset as a source. If however the data is included in the database, potential new users may be drawn to the dataset. ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr
