Kurt (a.o), I checked the Rotselaar/Werchter setup and I made a single change to the Rotselaar relation: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/214462 The only thing I think was missing is adding the Werchter boundary relation as a 'subarea' to the Rotselaar one. Did the same setup for Rijmenam/Bonheiden. There aren't many 'fusiegemeentes' being mapped -unfortunately- although it would be highly interesting to have them, not only from a nominatim (search) point of view, but also for addressing in general. The change I made will probably trigger some changes in the nominatim search result in a few days , I now expect that Leuven will be replaced by Rotselaar in the search result set when looking up Werchter in a few days. regards, Glenn ___ Talk-be mailing list Talk-be@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-be
Re: [OSM-talk-be] Nominatim administrative boundaries
I think that Werchter should have admin_level 9 (and not 8) as a deelgemeente Rotselaar is 8 And Leuven is 7. Leuven with 7 is not the city of Leuven, it is the Arrondissement Leuven.Vlaams Brabant has 2 arrondissementen: Leuven and Halle-Vilvoorde Therefore Vlaams Brabant has admin_level 6. Wikipedia's license (their terms of use do not impose any relevant restrictions as far as I can see) is CC BY-SA, which only applies to copyrightable content in the first place - and this may very well not include factual data. To me it seems this is the same reason why we doubted whether our map data was even protected by CC BY-SA at all before the license change. This data set is in the public domain; no restrictions on its use. It includes update such as an approximation of last month’s ICJ ruling on Burkina Faso-Niger’s boundary. Also, after many requests, Kate Schaefer (in our sister “HIU” branch) and I put together last fall a worldwide country polygon file as well, which most closely matches the Sept. 2012 version (LSIB4b) of our international lines. It is posted in the same place. We’re fortunate in this office (intact here at DoS since 1921) to have or have easy access to voluminous maps, treaties, and other international boundary information from the past 150 years. We are also fortunate that our colleagues in DoD (NGA) and in the UK (DGC) have been researching and digitizing international boundaries since the late 1990’s; we continue to work closely today. That’s given us a pretty good head start on quality control for the world’s 320-some international land boundaries. Considering the caveats in the attached doc (i.e., we follow US govt. policies; certainly anyone else using this data set can change it to conform to their own policies), we always welcome from professional geographers like yourselves any corrections, suggestions, questions on international land (not maritime!) boundaries, their history, alignments, lengths, etc. all the best, Dave *if that’s not or no longer the case, let me know ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Hi I have been playing with MudMap 2 and frankly the important feature for a OSM mapper, the ability to upload GPX files, is terrible. MudMap are mad keen that you use their server. First the send, sends the GPX file to their server with a default public setting. Then you have to go to their server to send it, say to yourself, which then after typing in an email address it send you an email that again requires you to again visit their server to download a GPX format that is downloaded as a GPX.XLM format so not recognised by Garmin's Bsecamp!! In all the most idiotic process that could be dreamed up. Net result is I have not even the ability to comment on the tracking ability of my plot except to say that it almost flattened my iPhone 4S in two and bit hours. The critical for bushwalkers features such as lakes and mountains do not appear. Sure the application is still in development so I can forgive this but the terrible ability to extract a GPX file suggests a form of thinking that I can not abide, that being forcing users to their site. Primeiro, baixe o plugin Reverter.
___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it

Re: [Talk-it] mappatura sentiero - strada forestale
D'où la définition du wiki pour access=official: The value official for the access tags foot, bicycle and horse indicates a way legally dedicated to specific modes of travel by a law or by the rules of traffic. Re: [OSM-talk-fr] Nouveaux pays dans Osmose - Était : Catalan support in Osmose
Hi, There is to tow way to add country into Osmose. First we support your area on French server. Now we prefer an other way : run you own backend instance on your own infrastructure. In this to way the result is send on the same frontend (osmose.openstreetmap.fr). There is an other problem with your need. We never split an area by language, yet. Always we use administrative boundaries to addresses language. So in some world area analysed by Osmose there is no language specific analysis. Osmose analysis are based on extract, we need an extract to run Osmose on an area (we created many http://download.openstreetmap.fr/extracts/). First step is running an Osmose backend somewhere on your area. Maybe ask at Geofrabik to split Spain by autonomous communities : http://download.geofabrik.de/europe/spain.html Then create a new specific language/area analyser like this : https://gitorious.org/osmose/backend/blobs/master/plugins/TagFix_MultipleTag_fr.py (french) https://gitorious.org/osmose/backend/blobs/master/plugins/TagFix_MultipleTag_FR.py (France) Frédéric. I think you speak French, sorry for my bad English. I see you have been fixed some Catalan administrative boundaries. I'm working fixing names of places, according Catalan spelling rules. Today I have found Osmose. I wondering if you (or some one) can help me providing support for Catalan in Osmose to mark some common errors. For instance, a common error is typing names with articles (el, la, els, les) in uppercase. In Catalan, such toponyms are used with article in lowercase. Another problem is using Spanish way types (calle intead of carrer, avenida instead of avinguda, ...). Currently I'm using JOSM with some filters and a very simple script to fix the article problem, but Osmose could be a very good aproach to detect errors. I think a first needed step is define a relation (or some relations) to define Catalan area. Just for info, Catalonia (Autonomous Community of Spain) has a zone (Vall d'Aran) where Catalan is a secondary language, the preferred one is Occitan. Son name values are in Occitan and I want to check name:ca in Vall d'Aran. Catalan language is official in Andorra and it's preferred in Balearic Islands (another Spanish Autonomous Community) and in some cities in Valencian Community (mainly the coast line). Catalan language can be used in non official toponyms in zones of Aragon Community and also arround Perpignan and Italian city of Alghero. So, as you see, administrative boundaries aren't a good choice for check Catalan quality, :( Can you help me and guide me, thanks in advance. ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr

Re: [Talk-us] GNIS?
Hi Thomas, I don't know if we/OSM have a policy for dealing with the gnis imported data. I have been deleting all of the gnis tags except gnis:feature_id. The justification for deleting them is that given the gnis:feature_id and its position, the rest of the tags can be recreated from original data source. Not sure why they were imported. Sometimes I feel like we should not even be maintaining the gnis id. I know other mappers just delete all of the gnis: tags when merging them with other OSM features. I am not sure when the import was done we signed up for maintaining the gnis:feature_id going forward for all of our points of interest. The gnis nodes are usually deleted and merged with another feature, usually a building. The imported gnis node accuracy is not that great, I have seem then several hundred yards off. Don't be afraid of moving them if you know where the node should be with higher accuracy. Also, if you have better elevation data, feel free to update it. For sure, don't leave them alone. We're using Lidar (+/- 19 cm vertical precision) and/or OPUS GPS for elevations of highest point as determined by zonal statistics, or the brass disc found on many peaks. Re: [Talk-us] GNIS?
The wiki (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/GNIS) doesn't mention source date, but it does mention: - gnis:created = *MM/DD/ when the GNIS entry was created * * * I presume that source date is the date of the export from the GNIS which was then imported to OSM. Might be useful if someone wants to compare OSM to GNIS in the future as the two sources will diverge over time. BTW, for most peaks are there not official elevations? According to the wiki, http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/GNIS feel free to modify or remove the tag. The wiki does suggest leaving tag gnis:feature_id unless the node is being removed. If you are adding a building polygon, for example a fire station, merge the gnis tags with the building outline. -- Clifford OpenStreetMap: Maps with a human touch ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
