Error Message When Saving Word Documents?

2004-11-01 Thread Nick Andriash
I was just sent two MS Word Documents, and saved them to disk as *.doc
files. However, when trying to open them, I keep receiving the following
error message:

The file is not a valid web archive

Because TB is in Beta, I primarily use Outlook at work and home, and
therefore have TB leave the messages on the Server. I deleted those two
files that were downloaded with TB, and re-saved the messages using Outlook.
Saving the files in Outlook also produced two *.doc files, but they opened
without a problem.

Anyone know why TB would save MS Word Document files in such a way that
caused those error messages?

Hmmm? My original install of RC6 gave me an updated Help File, that reads

Downloading Problem May Have Been Resolved

2004-09-21 Thread Nick Andriash
Well, out of desperation, I took other User's advice and basically turned
off all my filters, and then tried downloading my messages. I think I had
somewhere around 150 ready to download, and before this moment it would have
taken 6 or 7 attempts to get them all.

With the changes I made to my filters, surprisingly all messages were
downloaded and left in my Inbox. I then went back, and on a hunch,
re-enabled all my filters with the exception of Known, and everything
seems to still be working fine.

I have no idea why one filter would make a difference, but it seems to have.
I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that I do not experience any other
problems with downloading messages.

Thanks for everyone's help on this matter.

I still seem to be having trouble with that darn CC. Again, CC reports 16
messages on Server, and although it reports that 16 messages are being
downloaded, none actually arrive on my Computer. I have to invoke the CC

FYI, I leave my messages on the Server if that makes any difference.

Slow Downloading of Messages

2003-11-04 Thread Nick Andriash
For reasons that escape me, TB 2.01.20 seems to be exceptionally slow in
processing downloaded Mail. For example, if I have 600 messages to
download, TB will process those messages at a rate of about 2 per
second, so that within 4 minutes those 600 messages have been
downloaded.

After that however is where the real delay happens. Once downloaded, TB
processes... and I believe the messages are being filtered at this
time... the messages at an approximate rate of one per second. This
results in TB taking close to 10 minutes to 'filter'(?) those messages.

In total then, TB is taking approximately 14 minutes to process 600
messages. The other day, I had to download over 3000 messages, and you
can well imagine the finger tapping I did while waiting well over two
hours until I was able to do something with TB.

Could such long delays be the result of the BayesIt! Plugin examining
all those messages?

Re: More Visual Problems !

Hello David,

On Sunday, March 31, 2002, at 10:06:28 AM (-0700), you typed
the following in reference to More Visual Problems !:

As far as Ritlabs is concerned it's not a bug. I reported it as a bug a
few months ago but it was closed because 'it's not a bug'. Have a look
 at Bugtrack:
 https://bt.ritlabs.com/view_bug_advanced_page.php?f_id=313

I received a Reply from Ben Mills on this very subject, and he reported
the following from RFC2396:

RFC2396 (URI: Generic Syntax):

For resiliency, programs interpreting URI should treat upper case letters
as equivalent to lower case in scheme names (e.g., allow HTTP as well as
http).

Now I must admit that I have searched through that RFC and cannot find the
section nor sentence he quoted, but I am sure that a Uniform Resource
Indicator can be either upper or lower case... It should not matter.

The fact that TB renders those URI's differently between the RTV and the
Fixed-width Viewer is reason enough to wonder what Standard RITLabs is
adhering to. Besides, every other Mail Client I've tried, including
Outlook, Eudora (both of which are pretty main stream) and Becky all
render the mixed case URI's properly as hot links.

TB and SecureBat's RTV is the *only* Client... and even at that we are
only talking about the RTV... not to conform to the Standard, or so it
would appear. Is it a bug? I suppose it all depends on who you are talking
to. ;o) From where I sit, if it's not a bug then at the very least
RITLabs are not following a generally accepted protocol.

Yes, but the point I was trying to make is that the numbering should not
be on by default, because TB is the only Client that does that, and sooner
or later you are going to be posting Replies to other Public Lists and

 OK, thanks.

Gene, you really should limit use of Reply numbering to these Lists only,
or better still remove it altogether. RITLabs should 'not' be allowing
that to be the default behaviour of TB.

Why do you feel that way? I think it's great, personally :-/

Because it munges the Subject line due to the fact not all Users will
employ it, so the numbering actually has no relevance. Besides, is it
really necessary, and all it really accomplishes is lengthening of the
Subject line. ;o)

Cannot confirm using 1.60a on a finely tuned Win98SE System. ;o)

No strange characters. Hmmm? Did you use TB's PGP Plugin to sign? Wait a
minute... apparently it only happens when you sign/encrypt a message, or at
least that is the process I undertook. Try sending yourself a short
encrypted message... using the Plugin... and see if you receive the same
results.

Re: PGP/GnuPG in 1.60

Hello Peter Meyns,

On Monday, March 25 2002 at 11:09 AM PDT, you wrote:

the plugin for PGP 6.5.8 works well here. With GnuPG however, there are
some problems. TB! lets me sign messages with GPG, but it refuses to
encrypt or decrypt, the error msg telling me that the key was not found
(although it is in my keyring). I can encrypt to myself, though.

TB did have a problem with something called 'Smart Matching' where it
would look in your Key Rings for a User ID with the 'exact' matching UID
of the Recipient... or something along those lines, and in most cases
would provide the Key with the 'first' matching UID it came across,
regardless whether or not this was the Key you wanted to use.

However, you mention that you can encrypt and decrypt messages to yourself
without a problem, so this may not be the case. Perhaps TB looks up the
'exact' matching UID of 'any' Public Keys you are encrypting to and
compares it with the UID of the Recipient, and if it doesn't find an exact
match, will report that the Key cannot be found?

Hmmm? I was afraid of something like that. Hopefully once GnuPG 1.0.7 is
released RITLabs will begin work on an updated GnuPG Plugin. If, on the
other hand they refuse to implement one, then all one has to do is
continue using GPGShell, which, even if you are using Win NT/2K/XP, will
provide for KeyServer access. GPG 1.0.7 is reported to have fixed a bug
that prevented those Users from accessing the KeyServers from within
GPGShell.

A new definition of irony? ha ha

No, I'm serious John. I've had this little Dell Laptop with Win 98SE on it
for the last 5 months, and it has never crashed... not even once... not
even a single BSOD. My Desktop OTOH... well, I've had to reformat that
puppy so many times that the Win 98 Install CD is permanently imprinted on
the CDROM. ;o)

Perhaps that says something for engineered Systems. All I know is that my
next System will be a nice juicy 15.1 screened Dell Inspiron like Allie
has. Then again, Allie can afford it as he is a Surgeon... being a
Paramedic puts me right at the bottom of the Healthcare food chain. ;o)

A Fonts/Character Set Question

2002-03-25 Thread Nick Andriash

When I receive messages that have little boxes where characters should be,
is that more a reflection of the Font I am using, or the character set?
For instance, in Allies personal signature I see the following:

TB! v1.60 Windows XP 5.1.2600
¯¯
-BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-
Version: GnuPG v1.0.6-2 (MingW32)

I don't really know what anyone else sees, but I see two little square
boxes immediately under the letters TB!. For a Font, I use Lucida Sans
Typewriter and the default for language and character set being US-ASCII 7
Bit. I presume that 'language' and 'character set' are one in the same?

So, if I changed my character set to ISO-8859-1 would I be able to see
those characters, or would I also have to choose a Font that supports high
ASCII characters, which I presume those little boxes represent?

Why just this one page though? Every other page I visit that is in some
way date dependant, all display today's date: Online Newspapers, Magazines,
and Journals like The Register, etc. Very strange.
