Backup/Restore

2022-01-26 Thread Thomas ML
Hello TBBETA,

I just moved TB! to this new laptop. Backup/Restore worked flawlessly.

One wish though: The only thing (which I have encountered so far) that did not
work were the settings which Sender's to allow for downloading images. This is
a fairly new feature, and I guess that's why it was not included in the Backup.

I therefore suggest to include this into the Backup/Restore function.

Does anybody second the motion?

I have about 20 email accounts to manage, mostly IMAP and I wasn't

I was backing up and restoring whole stuff (e-mails, addresses) into
one TBK, never tried partial restore. All my accounts are POP3.

Between Vista and W7 last time was about 9 month ago (you will have to
check which version was up to date then). Between W7 machines last
time was about 3 month ago ; too much traveling lately so it sits all
the time on my notebook.

I tried to use Voyager as well but IMO it's not user friendly process
and apart of first successful sync to Voyager I couldn't get it
running properly (sync of 9GB takes too long as well ; apart of the
fact that I had to use huge USB stick to sync (more than twice of the
size of the archive = 19GB at least...)).

Backup Restore Synchronise broken

2012-10-09 Thread Tony Hoare
Hello Tbbeta,

For a number of versions Backup Restore do not work across different
machines. I can make a backup on XP but my Win7 laptop says Error
reading file with no further clues.

I just tried Synchronise (which I haven't used for a large number of
versions as it was too laborious) and it goes through most of the steps
but also fails Error reading file

Synchronise is looking very useful once it works because it is now
totally automatic once both machines are pointing at the same folder.

Can anyone confirm problems with Backup Restore?

Did now. I did install TB on drive D! :-) However, I would expect the
choice of where to install in the standard install, not in the custom
install.

Problems:

1.) (Showstopper) The splash screen says I am using an unregistered
copy.

2.) Customisations gone. This could easily be fixed by copying the
tbuser.def from the back-up to the new location, overwriting the
existing new file. This appears to be a programmer oversight, as with
this new functionality, the backup routine was not updated.

3.) Settings gone. This refers to window size and location etc.

This backup/restore needs work, as it makes only sense when it works
completely. Half a backup is half-baked and damages the casual user
who relies on TB fully for backup.

IMHO, standard installation means a safe installation. If you're
leaving this safe path of a protected Program Files folder because you
install your programs to a different location without the access
restrictions of the Program Files folder, it by all means is a *very*
custom installation to me.

AFAIK, it has been like that with all MSI installers I've used.

3.80.03: Backup/Restore problem

2006-05-06 Thread Thomas Fernandez
Hello TBBETA,

I have TB installed on drive C: and thought that was an oversight when
I installed XP at the time. All programs are on drive D: over here.
Data (including .tbb files) is on drive E:.

So, I backed up TB with the internal tool to drive I: (backups). Then
I removed TB via Windows' Add/remove programs.

1.) The directory structure on drive E: remained intact (didn't
acutally look at the files) even though I had ticked that the files
should not be kept.

2.) I ran the MSI install, and it didn't ask me where I wanted to
install the program, it just installed on drive C:. Why am I not given
a choice? I want all my program files on drive D:. That is easily done
with all other apps I have installed.

I was asked where I want to keep my data, though. I keyed in drive E:
and this was followed as expected.

3.) Upon opening TB, I learned that I had an unregistered copy, even
though I had restored from back-up.

4.) My personal settings, such as open account tress open, width of
columns, size and position of windows, were all forgotten. I didn't
even look any further into details.

6.) Customisations were forgotten. It seems the user.def wasn't backed
up and restored at all.

This is a poor performance for a release version, I think. I had no
choice but to delete the copy newly installed and restored with TB's
internal backup, and instead restored from my manual backup (I always
back up the registry key and zip the relevant directories), and now I
have TB looking and working as expected again. Should have been
possible with the internal tool. However, the main program is still on
drive C. :-(

Funny, I have only one condition in the Search function now, instead

closing the Search window and reopening it, fixes this.

I wouldn't consider it a bug, I just wanted to report this surprising

Hello The Bat! beta users and developers,

anybody with similar problem?

After I migrated Bat! to another machine, I found that at the
following settings have
been lost:
- Use X-Mailer Headers in messages
- View modes (only generic survived)

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/bug_view_advanced_page.php?bug_id=0002142

Cheers, SyP

I assume you did this using TB!'s backup feature?

Didn't lose that.

S - View modes (only generic survived)

I did a backup just before this new view mode function was introduced.

When I restored, I had lost all common folders? Did you have common
folders and if so, did they restore OK.

My X-Mailer setting was not lost. I had it toggled on and it was still
on.

FE What's TBOT?

TBOT is The Bat Off-Topic discussion list. It is a list set up by one
of our members on egroups which takes the "overspill" conversations
from TBUDL and TBBETA.

Here is the segment of the TBUDL welcome message which tells of its'
existence and of how to join:

MDP TBOT is The Bat Off-Topic discussion list. It is a list set up by one
MDP of our members on egroups which takes the "overspill" conversations
MDP from TBUDL and TBBETA.

Addendum: Once you are subscribed, you can go to www.egroups.com and
log in to that list. It has its own file area onto which every member
of the list can upload files for other list memebers to download.
