Filter question (MyGate)

2003-10-05 Thread John Phillips

Hi Bat! Fans,

Using MyGate to download upload from /to news groups, just a filter
question.

I am subscribing to news groups aus.comms and aus.comms.mobile.

If a message is cross posted to both of these news groups, it is
sorted, with my current filters to both news groups, causing dupes.

In other words, I am receiving in both of the above news groups the
original message destined for the news group, plus the original.

The filter for aus.comms is as follows:

Move to inbox aus\.comms[|,|\n] Location Recipient Presence Yes
Options continue processing with other filters; Regular expressions

Filter for aus.comms.mobile is similar except for
aus\.comms\.mobile[|,|\n] as Recipient.

Filters set up basically as advised in this list by Michael from
Spain.

Can anyone see problems with above? How do I stop the dupes?

You could add the other line in your first filter with presence no.
That will di i think.
Are you sure it is not crossposted?

At least that test (above, going to three addresses) confirmed that the extra

I found the entry in the template that was causing this and removed it.

You have to copy and paste them when you are using different templates
for each person. A Better way is to split up your address book in
groups and use the group templates.

It would be helpful if you could go into a address of a person and
then select a next option to go to the next person and stay in the

I have templates in all my folders also. How did you convert them to
your addressbook. Was this easy to do or is it hard, i.e. delete/move
from folder and paste them in your addresdbook?

Edgar You have to copy and paste them when you are using different templates
Edgar for each person. A Better way is to split up your address book in
Edgar groups and use the group templates.

Edgar It would be helpful if you could go into a address of a person and
Edgar then select a next option to go to the next person and stay in the
Edgar same tab so you can change things faster.

Thank you. Well, i have quite a few mailinglists in dutch and english

You can sort the addresses of those mailinglists into two address book

that's easier.

There's a problem with your current reply format. That top block is
a repeat of the credit line that follow the subsequent greeting. Add

This is what I understood you to be saying.

P The problem of TB! adopting as much as it does from the windows

I understand.

P Clearly put but doesn't make the text look

Yes, for you, I know it's true.

A I agree that the address book list fonts should be made

MB I may put just that on the Wish List, then.

P I suggest trying to re-color TB! white text on black before
P limiting the wish to simply the AB. TB! falls short in much more
P than AB display configuration options. Or more simply, try making
P the account panel white on black..

This is not my preference--I prefer a light background with a dark,
contrasting text, in addition to relatively large font sizes
everywhere.

But I have just been to the various settings menus, and XP is able to
do this according to your preferences, except in the AB and in a few
other dialogue boxes, where my own difficulty is not with colors but
with font size.

P According to MAU W2K help show the TB! color limitations, maybe XP
P also then?

XP has been hard for me to learn, and its arbitrary folder
organization paths and complex Search function would not have been my
choice. I was in Win95 before my monitor died and I realized that my
hard drive was also way too small for my needs and got this new
computer. I was really comfortable in Win95, and just sort of making
do with TB! v. 161, putting up with its lack of legibility on my
screen for the sake of the safety features.

Now that I know what can be done, I want it all!

And I want that for you, too. I don't think you should have to change
your operating system just so you can control the color display in The
Bat!

I put my Wish for better control of the Address Book on Bugtraq this
morning. Bugtraq would not give me a window to express it as a wish,
even though I clicked the Switch button. So I wrote it up as a Bug,
which in a way, it is.

And so is this color-control glitch of yours!

Why don't you go to this address:

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/news_list_page.php

and put your needs in as either a Wish or a Bug?

Regarding group templates

2003-10-05 Thread daniel hahler
Hello all,

ok. After the recent thread about using addressbook (and -group)
templates, I changed my TB lists to that behaviour.

But:
1. it would be very good to have an identity tab for each address book
entry (as with the folders), which will be used when sending to that
recipient/list!
Now I have to write the new message in the according folder anyway, as
it wouldn't use the address for that list.
And having a template for each TB list, instead of a group is not that
comfortable.

2. The Known filter in sorting office now filters the mails from
the TB lists into Inbox - Known, as it stands upon the lists
filters. But this should not happen, because the lists_tb group isn't
checked in the Known filter's settings.
Looks like a bug!

occurred to them as they were writing this part of the code.

That's why I wanted to draw it to their attention.

I don't think we have to be beta testers for our feedback on the

Auto responde to mail with an attachment with a large size

2003-10-05 Thread Edgar
Hello All,

When I used OE (Before TB!) and used a dail-in connection I could make
a rule for large mails.

e.g.. When a mail of more then 1MB was received it would stay on the
server and the sender would get a mail with a text from a specific
text file on my HD.

I'm missing this in TB!
When I choose to delete all messages and not downloading mail 1MB
I just get a message and the mail is gone.
When I choose to leave all mail on the server I have to delete them
manually. But what is more I can not send a mail to the sender of the
mail that's bigger then 1MB

I could use the Dispatcher but also then there is no automatic mail to
the sender of the mail.

How can I do this in TB!. It should be possible (thinking that it's
capable of doing far more than OE)

Edgar I could use the Dispatcher but also then there is no automatic mail to
Edgar the sender of the mail.

I have also had this issue, today in fact.

I decided I require a way to leave message above a certain size on my ISP's server so
that I can retrieve them via a Web interface.

I set TB up to leave messages larger than 2MB on the server, and also have the option
set to Delete downloaded messages.

My test message was purged from the server even though I only received the automated
test notification that a large message was waiting for me to deal with.

I need this facility as my Antivirus [NOD32] seems to currently have issue with large
attachments in E-Mail [say over 5MB], it hangs, consuming 95%+ CPU in an infinite
loop. The only way to exit this is to shut it down and loose the E-Mail. Maybe this
is an issue for Eset as makers of NOD32, however, it would be nice to have TB leave
those messages for later retrieval.

2003-10-05 Thread Gerard
Hi Bat Users,

I am trying to figure out a way to check if my computer and more

office. I regulary have to travel a week for business.

I can always ask someone to go in and restart my computer but I do not
want to do this without knowing if this is needed because TB! has
stopped collecting mail.

I am thinking that if TB! can send a mail it is still functioning properly
, but I can't figure a way to have TB! send emails automatically, say

Does anyone know if this is possible and how to do this?
Or does anyone know of an other way to accomplish the same result?

I filter them in a different app than TB!, but here is what works well
for me.

Delete message from server if these four conditions are met:
my address not in To header
my address not in Cc header
size is 14 bytes
size is 18 bytes

I log my kills, and this filter has killed all Swens, with no false
positives that I have seen. The logs are big, so there may be a false
positive in there somewhere, but I don't want to be BCCed huge files
anyway.

Some Swen worm mail that is misformed or has been stripped of its
payload by a server running and AV scanner will get through, but those
are only relatively small, 10-15 KB each.

String: blank, Location: sender, presence: yes
Flag the message (just to test if the filter is positive)
Delete message from server
smaller than 100 kb

When I downloaded the mail and checked with the dispatcher all the
mails were still there!

When I again checked for mail (not using the dispatcher) he downloaded
nothing.

When I checked again with the dispatcher ALL the mails were deleted.

So when you select in a filter delete mail from server is will not
be deleted when the mail is received it will be deleted the next time
you check your mail (is that how it should be???)

The strange thing is he delete all the mail. Although it should NOT
delete the large mails.

Is this a bug or is my setting not correct?

So you haven't checked anything in the Known filter? or just special

If you use the same identity for all TBLists, then you could create an

Perhaps.

To avoid that, put the Known Filter after the list filters. In this way
the list filters will catch the list messages first.

Hmmm. I thought that issue was resolved in that TB! doesn't go ahead and
delete messages which were not downloaded but instead merely an
announcement message.

This will work though I thought it wasn't necessary anymore:

Set the account to leave messages on the server and to download only the
headers of messages beyond 2MB in size.

Now open the sorting offices filters and create an incoming filter that
will catch the large message notification. I've not seen one of those
notifications in a while but I think the message is from 'The Bat!' so
you can have it filter on 'Sender' being 'The Bat!'. Put this filter at
the very top of the filter list.

The next filter will be one that matches all messages. You can therefore
define the string 'e' with Kludges being the source. For the filter
action, enable 'delete message from server'. Very importantly, also
enable the option to 'continue processing with other filters'.

What these two filters do is to catch the large message notification
messages and put them aside so that the original message isn't marked
for deletion by the second filter.

The second filter marks all other messages for deletion and passes them
on to be filtered as usual by your other filters. Each time you do a POP
check, the messages previously marked for deletion by this filter will
be deleted from the server.

Good luck.

Yes. Some time back, when I felt like trying to use Windows with various
colour schemes, I decided to try the white text on black background
colour scheme. One of the reasons why I quickly stopped using it was
that TB! didn't adequately support showing such a colour scheme.

Hi Deborah

I didn't see that.

DW Only text which falls below the last cut-mark inserted will be stripped,
DW which means that if you have a cutmark, followed by a signature, followed by
DW a listserv footer which also contains a cut-mark, the signature inserted by
DW the sender will not be stripped.

Ah. Interesting..I didn't know that. I agree then, people should use a cut-mark.

DW I really have trouble understanding why this is such an issue.

Not to me it isn't..I already use one as you'll see. I thought including it in
the listserv footer might help matters, but apparently it won't.

DW It's so simple to insert a cutmark, it can even be automated using
DW templates. I really don't understand why people are objecting to being asked
DW to use a cutmark.

Some people don't feel that simply a name is a signature. And that asking them
to change just so that others can avoid having to delete that one word while
replying is asking too much. That's open to debate, but personally, if you
consider that your name is already in the sender field, including it in the
message body above the cutmark doesn't really add anything to your message.
Therefore it could be considered a signature even if it isn't included along
with anything else, and should be below the cutmark.
