Folder Window Tabs in 2..10.3
I noticed the new tabs at the bottom of the folder window and clicked on Unread, it then put up 5 folders labeled just Inbox... is there any way I can have the account that they are the inbox to showing up as well?? -- Scott Windows 2000 The Bat 2.10.03 Popfile Spam Filter http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re[2]: Uread Message Tab
In which case IMHO it's kinda silly, annoying useless, considering one can easily set up a folder to grabs all unread msgs from all folders that excludes all other msgs, making it easier to read. Not that silly for someone like me, with 10 accounts and 496 folders :) I have about 30 accounts so I can see the value... well until I click on it and just see about 10 folders called inbox... might be nice to see in the folder list something about the account its from... -- Scott Windows 2000 The Bat 2.10.03 Popfile Spam Filter http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Mail download + new line problems
Hallo everybody, I'm new on this list and new to The Bat. Is it allowed to ask several questions in one mail, or should it be only one question per mail? I take a chance and start out with the two most urgent ones. The Bat 2.10.03 on Win2K, stand alone 1. When I want to download mails from the server, 4 or 8 mails are downloaded without any problem. Then the hard disk starts to work and goes on working for ca 15 minutes. During this time, the progress bar hangs and doesn't show any progress. After that The Bat claims that the download is finished. However, only the 4 or 8 first mails are downloaded. To download the rest of the mails from the server, I have to click on get mails once again - and this time I get the rest in seconds, no matter if it is only a couple, or 50, or 100. After some days, it occurred to me that of course the program was checking for viruses, so I deactivated all the options for virus checking. No change. Then I thought it must be checking for spam, so I deactivated all these options, too, and deleted the Bayes plugin. But the only thing that happened was that The Bat now doesn't do this every time I check my mail, only in the morning when I start up my computer. The funny thing is that it is always exactly 4 or 8 mails that I receive before the hard disk starts to work, and it always takes around 15 minutes. I only have a modem and it drives me _crazy_. No other mail program does this. If I try to cancel the download, I get a warning that the mails may be marked a read and thus not downloaded the next time. What on earth it is The Bat does and how do I make this stop??? 2. It's impossible to start a new line by pressing Enter. As soon as I start writing on the new line, that word pops up to the line above. I want it to look like this: Name Address Phone Mail ...but in order to show you this, I have to write this mail in another mail program. With The Bat, it would look like this: Name Address Phone Mail Sometimes I get it to work with two lines, but never with three or more. The program seems to ignore the Enter button function new line. How do I fix this? Extremely grateful for your help. Kind regards, Britt P.S. I only found this English list. I share my home computer with the wife and kids. They use Internet Explorer and Outbreak Express, the system defaults. I use Opera and The Bat. Changing the defaults is not an option. When I click on a url in the body of a Bat message, I want to open it in Opera, the non-default browser. If there's a way of setting this, I can't find it. That's rather non standard behaviour. The only things that come to mind as probable causes are a virus scanner that checks incoming mail (and thus acts as a proxy server), mail collection via a proxy server (these two options are basically the same) and some weird interaction with a firewall. I don't believe TB has a method to call a batch file on exit, so something may have to created to meet this need, or someone can correct me if I'm wrong. The nice thing about the batch files is they backup the program directory, mail base directories, and registry, so everything is backed up from a working installation. IIRC I revised an incremental backup Allie posted for rar files to 7-zip's command line version. My present mail base is approximately 890 MB. The incremental backup generally takes 1 to 3 minutes to run depending upon how much change has occurred in the mail base since the last time it was run. I'll post the batch file below and you can modify to your TB configuration. I also use a grandfather, father, son backup routine which Marck posted on TBOT. This keeps the grandfather backup and rotates the father / son backup. It is a complete backup from start to finish, and takes about 20 minutes to run on my PC (P4 2.4 Ghz with 500 MB RAM). I'll post the batch file below and you can modify to your TB configuration. If TB has no way to call a batch file on exit, does anybody know how to create this functionality? ===Incremental b/u TB.Bat Path C:\Windows;C:\Program Files\7-ZIP;C:\Program Files\The Bat! regedit /e X:\TBArchives\tbreg.reg hkey_current_user\software\rit copy X:\TBArchives\tbreg.reg @Echo off Echo Echo * !! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Original message text=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1. I face a similar problem where I can download a few emails out of different email accounts fine, then when TheBat starts to download emails off the same domain, 2 different accounts, The Bat will slow down or so that its hanging in the status window. If I sit and wait 3-5 minutes, it will finally download all the email and return The Bat to useable... I have been thinking this might have to do with the AV/Antispam/Firewall I have and is one of the reasons I would like a switch to have only 1 email account download at a time instead of a multi-threaded downloading... -- Scott Windows 2000 The Bat 2.10.03 Popfile Spam Filter http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

PM All replies to Britt appear as a new PM message except of one's own, which is threaded as usual. I guess that PM Britt's message didn't have a message ID. So our servers added one. Yep, I guess that's what happened. PM My question here: shouldn't the mailing list software provide a PM message ID if there isn't one sent along with the message? It would be PM useful in order to keep TB!'s threading by reference intact. Not the list software. It should be done by the first processing smtp server. That would be the server of Britt's ISP. But if that had happened, nobody would've seen the problem. The smtp servers on the list site also forget to include it, so it's up to the receiving smtp servers. As I receive TBUDL as a digest too (started for testing and kept it), I checked that message. It had these headers: Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit From: Britt Henrikson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Precedence: list MIME-Version: 1.0 Cc: To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sun, 16 May 2004 14:48:18 +0200 Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Subject: Mail download + new line problems Message: 3 The Precedence:, Reply-To: and Message: headers were inserted or altered by the list software, so it is possible that the Message-ID: headers was deleted during the processing, but since this is the first time we notice something like this I wouldn't want to bet serious money on that possibility. On the other hand, the message in the digest has lost its X-mailer: Foxmail 5.0 [de] header (that was present in the normal list message), so if the list software starts messing with that header, why not with the message id. Furthermore, the different orders in which the headers are listed in the list message and the (MIME) digest message suggest that the list server is altering more than strictly needed. On the other hand, I've tried Foxmail for myself some time ago and I was less than impressed with the way it was functioning, so it might be the culprit too. Now that I'm writing this, it was 12 March 2003 that I tried it, somebody was complaining that he couldn't get Foxmail to write to this list, if your local archive goes back that far, look at mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] because I could get it to post to the list, but that message-id is just like the kind of msg-id that my own server inserts when one is missing. This was my final conclusion: ro Third attempt with Foxmail. This program is not quite rfc ro compliant. It does all kind of illegal things with the address ro headers. And some smtp-servers are more leniant than others. Let's say it was Foxmail's faulty behaviour and some erring mail servers on the way between. -- Groetjes, Roelof Disclaimer: Any opinion stated in this message is not necessarily shared by my budgies or rabbits. Re: Managing multiple identities
Hello gmenini, Now I successfully regenerated my environment using a 'simple' (restricted permissions account) but cannot find the way to create and admninistrative account or even another simple account for my brother. I don't think you can. What I am going to suggest may work but I have not tested it. 1.- Exit TB if it is running. 2.- I assume you have not changed the default directory TB uses for its message base (Program Files/The Bat!/Mail). If so,with Windows Explorer, browse to Program Files/The Bat!/Mail and copy the whole Mail directory to a Temp folder. 3.- Uninstall The Bat and make sure the Mail directory is empty. I not, delete it. 4.- Install TB from scratch and, this time, remember to create an account with Admin rights. 5.- Finally, once you are satisfied (and sure you have admin rights) use Tools/Import Messages/From The Bat! Messge Base (.TTB-files) and import every MESSAGES.TTB files you can find in the Mail folder tree that you copied to your Temp directory. I think that should do it but, as I have said, I haven't tried it. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Make your shortcut point to a batch file that runs TB. i.e. tb.bat * C:\program files\the bat!\thebat.exe Call backup.bat * The batch file will not process the second line until you shutdown TB. backup.bat will be the batch file you all have been writing to backup TB. Note: Don't put in the asterisks in your batch file. -- Leif (TB list moderator and fellow end user). Hello Roelof, Sunday, May 16, 2004, 4:01:21 PM, you wrote: Roelof Why? After all I got four. I'd be interested to see why you got four. I only ran the script three times, and the second time was only a subset of the subscriber list from the first run. Most everyone should have gotten two, only a few dozen should have gotten three. The reason for the multiples was that my script timed out too soon to finish iterating through the database, so I started the second run through where I left off with the first (I was kinda guessing where that was because I wasn't echoing out the addresses as they were parsed, hence some of the people who received the first, received the second). The third run was due to a malformed e-mail address which threw it off in the second run. The script is fine now and if we ever have to whip it out again, it should be a one time shot that time! grin -- Leif (TB list moderator and fellow end user).
