Windows will fit a lot of descriptions. A friend of mine keeps calling it

Hi Yuki,

I did not realise that a backup would only restore to the same drive
letter.

I can only recommend that the place TB! on the C drive or partition.
There a bigger change of a C drive being present on your next config
than a M drive ;-)

Hi myob,
I recently re-installed windows and TB!.
What I did was make a backup and saved that on a CD.
I re-installed windows, then TB! and dit a restore. The only nuisance
is that you have to make a dummy account first before you can restore
the backup. Delete this account after you do the restore.

Then go to the email with your confirmation of your TH! order, select
it and click on register. All field will be "magically" filled with data
except for the key password which you should have noted somewhere or
  still remeber.

And that's it. A clean install with no "hard-core user" register
  editing.

This easy and a logical flow of things.

Hi Bat Users,

Since TB! does such I good job of searching through my emails I was
wondering if there is also a way to search through attachments.
I mainly receive Word/Excel and PDF attachments.

External find & Replace

2002-02-14 Thread Gerard de Vries

Hi Bat Users,

I recently found cut.exe again which is some help in removing text from
emails, but what I would really like is a find and replace function.

I had a go at this even with regex but only managed to take 1 occurrence
out, multiples are just to difficult (for me anyway).

Does anyone know a solution?

EWxternal program

2002-02-13 Thread Gerard de Vries

Hi Bat Users,

A while ago someone mentioned a program that could be used to cut bits
of text from emails, specially at the bottom.
It would be started through a filter as an external program.
It was written by a German person, specially for use with TB!
I can't find it anywhere in the archive.
Who knows which program this is and were to download=

Hi Peter,

I had a similar proble yesterday. Thebackup wold stop at a certain
folder and say something like "can´t acces folder \\xyz\inbox\power
user. I tried creting th folder on disk but that didnt help.´I then
restored everting except the mail folders and deleted the folder "power
user". I lost themail in that folder but all other mail retored fine.
I have no idea what the problem was but I feel TB! shuld not have stopped
there.

I started with a complete new installation and TB! started restoring
top down, nothing random about that.

Hope this helps.

Jernej,

This reminds me of a car mechanic who I saw 30 years ago. He could not
find the electrical problem that was in the car. so he pulled out all
the electric wires and rewired the complete car. Easy and quick he
 explained.

Today the first thing the mechanic does when my car comes in is plug
it into the computer and with its newest brother you hand the car
keys to the reception who use the error log stored in the car-key to
make a workplace order. The car almost tells the mechanic what to do!

The point, we should try to make TB! not a tool for experts but for
all users out there. That means easy to configure and intuitive to
use. That sort of kills the register editing option, sorry.

BTW extra points for naming my car brand :-)

Hi Raj,

It just forwards the email, with no added text.
I havn't tried the %CC macro because it doesn't do anything with any
template.

True, but TB is so aware of the windows dimension it can even wrap on

Language support / spell checking

2002-01-25 Thread Gerard de Vries

Hi Bat Users,

I would like to know if more people write emails in different languages
on a regular basis. I do and it is a pain to switch spell checking each
 time to the right language.

I first did this by write language switches in personal templates and
although this works the big disadvantage is that you can't use
templates for any other functions anymore because the personal ones
 overrule other templates.

Does anybody have a better solution?

If not could I request a language selection in the address book, it
should automagicly switch the used spell checking dictionary to the
proper language when writing emails to this person.

Hi David,

I can make this happen but I am not sure if this is what you mean.
Make sure that there are less msg subjects visible then the height of
the window. You can do this by selecting view->display -> unread msg.

You should notice that there is no vertical scroll-bar in the window on
the right.

If you now try to scroll down ( I use my scroll-button on my mouse) the
window will scroll horizontally.

I think it's the Bat trying to be smart.

The puzzling part is the fact that you don't have this problem with

Hi David,
Parking is not really the right terminology. Lock would have been
better but the picture would not be so nice :^).

This is the text form the help file:
Message parking is designed to prevent accidental deletion of a
valuable message. When a message is parked, you will not be able to
move it to another folder, nor will it be deleted or automatically
purged. It is also impossible to delete a folder that contains one
or more parked messages.

The help file is not correct here. What parking does is prevent it
from deletion but not from moving around. You can however make an
exception for parked emails in your filter under advance settings.

There have been more reports of this any as far as I can remember all by

Try changing it to something above 10 min and see if it still happens.
Maybe you could check if TB stops when it is asked to collect again while

Hi Peter,

I wasn't talking about TB but if you wanted to set-up a mailing list
using TB. Apparently TB is very good for malling lists but it isn't used
by the TB mailing list if you look at the headers.

If you set up your own mailing list you would like to have all the
headers you mentioned, or at least a few.

Spam

2002-01-13 Thread Gerard de Vries

Hi Bat Users,

There seems to be a lot of talk about spam filtering and even
suggestions for using extra programs.
Has anyone setup a good working Spam filter that he or she would be
willing to share with this group?

I only filter on the absence of my email address in the to field. It's
crude but is works pretty well except for certain mailing lists I
subscribe to. Therefore I have to put filters for these lists ahead of
my Spam filter. Actually my Spam filter comes almost last in line.

Who has an y good suggestions?

Hi Dierk,

I was referring to the current version 1.53 as being very stable and
bug free. I am very pleased with the stability and scalability of the
current program. However there are a lot of wishes to need
fulfilling. That's why we need to move on and stop working on better

Since I use TB professionally I am very reluctant to try a beta

appreciate the effort of the programmers to make a bug free program.

Cyril,

I agree that a conversion program is needed if you want people to change
email programs, however, I would not suggest making it part of the
main program. Why would I want to load a conversion program that I
  might only use once?

There is enough bloatware around, I separate utility would do just fine
and also opens the option of setting up a contract with an already
available program. Program is bundled with TB and can be used for say 30 days.
Shouldn't cost to much because it is a great promo for the people
selling the conversion software.
Think of the Norton AV program that is given away with other programs
and hardware.

David,
There are no right's and wrongs here. It depends on the way you work.
The point I was trying to make is that if you have text marked an press
reply, it looks like you want to reply using only the marked text and I
feel the software should be smart enough to to recognise that.
Now you have to do the thinking and press a separate button, in your
case the middle mouse button or shift-F4.

I have been reading about people's frustration with software this
weekend and agree that to little thought goes into make software do what
it is made to do intuitively.
You can't keep adding features and assigning keyboard short-cuts or even
menu items to them and expect people to use them.
On the other hand we all remember the paper clip from word and the statue
that was erected for the person who discovered who to disable it.

The most notable points made were:
- The software should concentrate on its main function and "hide" all
extra's. Compare this to a VCR. Main function is record and play not edit.
- Extra functions should be off by default. When the user regonises
he/she needs them they can be switch on and not be in the way all the
time before they are needed.
- Look what the user want to do and help him doing it.

Isn't that a very unique situation. It can happen that there is selected
text but not often. It works this way in Agent and I found it very
intuitive.
I think the Find Function is more confusing. You don't even have to mark
text it just grabs the word that's closest.

Hi Peter,

At the risk of overworking your mouse hand, I just started TB and the
association was still with TB. I did what I wrote earlier, deleted the
the association, created EML as a new file type and associated it with
TB.
This doesn't mean that your method doesn't work, I just didn't get a
change to try it.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Now I just need to remove OE from my system.

Re: Auto entry in address book

Hi Roelof,

I tried this and it works as advertised. However, I wanted to make a
small change. The filter now adds all sender address to the
address book even if they ar already in there. The result is
 double/triple/etc. entires.

I tried activating the advanced tab / all address(es) must not be
listed in the address book (item: sender). But this doesn't seem to
work. It doesn't want to add any email addresses now.
 Any suggestions?

Auto entry in address book

2001-12-27 Thread Gerard de Vries

Hi Bat Users,

I am looking for some help on using the auto address book entry.
I receive a lot of mail ( about 800 a day) for my business from a lot
of different people. I have tried adding them each as a filter but
this doesn't work to well, because a some address aren't used anymore
and I get stuck with lots of useless filters.
I already asked TB people to make a time option on filters so they
get deleted after a certain period.

Until then, what I would like is add them all to an address book on
which I could filter ( If in address book THEN send to folder).
If I could then delete the complete address book or all the entries
in it, each 3 months and run a macro that would add each unique email
address in a particular folder to it again I would be done.

Now I am pretty good in thinking up new idea's it's just the
execution that isn't my forte. Can someone tell me of this can be
 done and how?

Thanks for thinking with me :-)

Best regards,
 Gerard

It's not what its intended for but you could do a "redirect"

the voice mail email. You can thrn change the subject.
If you switch on "allow local delivery" (options|network), the process is instant.

Regexp in search function ?

Hi fellow Bats,

I have been trying to search for multiple items using the search
option under Tools-search-advandced but I can't hack it.

I have the dark suspicion that I have to option regex.

What I would like to do is search for something like the words Red
and Blue must be present but not the word Black.

 Red and Blue not Black

 Is this possible?

As you may, or may not know, this is a "standard" short cut for the
save function in many programs. I use it without thinking in my text

 crashes.
The problem is that when I press ctrl-S while using Word or Excel a
alert box from TB appears saying "nothing to send".

 Is this a know bug/feature?
Can you change this somewhere in the settings?
